GT7-96 profile

The compact design of the GT7-96 makes it a fit for a wide variety of cars.

A cool upgrade

These GT7-96 6"x9" speakers from JBL have everything you want when shopping for a car speaker: an advanced design, quality materials, a cool look, and a practical price tag. But in the end, it's the sound they make that matters, and true to their iconic heritage, these JBLs deliver.

How do they do it?

This is a whopper of a speaker. Patented Plus One™ architecture expands the surface area of the big oval polypropylene woofer, so you'll enjoy impressive bass. An edge-driven dome tweeter and supertweeter handle a wider range of frequencies to create a seamless transition between the midrange and high frequencies.

JBL built these GT7 speakers to handle up to 70 watts RMS, so they'll perform spectacularly with an aftermarket radio or amp, but with a design geared toward maximum efficiency, you'll get superior performance even from a factory radio. Grilles are included for a custom installation.

Highlights:

  • 6"x9" 3-way speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene Plus One™ woofer cone with foam surround
  • edge-driven dome PEI tweeter plus supertweeter
  • power range: 2-70 watts RMS (210 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 40-21,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 94 dB
  • top-mount depth: 2-15/16"
  • grilles included
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a great upgrade from the factory oem in a 2009 Tacoma. Great high-end with the existing factory tweeters and much fuller bass compared to the Tacoma oem's. High value for the cost and installation was straight forward with the Crutchfield supplied mounting and wiring adaptors.

Pros: Much fuller sound and improved bass. Used with a Jensen nav receiver, the equalizer allows a custom sound profile for talk radio and for music.

Cons: No cons

2015 Nissan Frontier SV
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have these running at 65w RMS each off the front pair of a 5 channel class D amp and these things kick. The midrange in these speakers is decent but overpowered by the bass they produce. All in all I think they sound really good if you have an EQ and can bump the mid range and treble up a bit. I turned these speakers into monsters after playing with settings.

Pros: Sound good, more bass than 6.5" speakers.

Cons: None so far.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Really good sounds coming from these JBL's, good range, I hear crisp definition between the high notes, low notes and mid range. I'm hearing sounds in songs that I've been listening to for years for the first time. I have to say I'm pretty darn happy, especially for the price. When doing my install; it seemed I was dealing with a quality product, nice fit and finish. I presume I'll be getting years of satisfaction from these speakers. I only give them a four star rating because I still want more volume, I have a feeling the only way I'll get enough volume for my liking is if I invest big bucks on big power. After all I'm only driving them with a $130 Kenwood deck, in a Corolla, so I'm thrilled

Pros: clear crisp sounds

Cons: none really, they rock

I bought a pair for front door speakers in my 2014 Challenger , because the basic stereo it had was alright but sounded a little muddy and had no highs. I am still using the factory stereo and wiring and the difference in the sound is just incredible. It sounds like the music is live in concert and crystal clear with no distortion at any volume.I am one happy customer !!!

Pros: crystal clear sound

Cons: no speaker wires included

Nice set of sub speakers. These were paired with a Kenwood head unit and they sound pretty good so far. Installation was fairly smooth, only 3 of the 4 holes lined up, but the included adapters made quick work of the wiring.

Pros: Good sound. Fairly tight response across all ranges. Good speaker choice in this price range.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am always amazed when I pull out factory car speakers (this is my 3rd car and Crutchfield speaker upgrade) and see how cheap they are - it's amazing they play music at all. Anyway, these JBL's are wonderful. When you unbox them, you immediately can see what high quality they are and solidly they are built. Easy to install using the door adapters. And the sound is super crisp. WELL worth the cost and effort. You won't be disappointed!

Pros: Great sound, solid construction

Cons:

2015 Subaru Outback
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I tried to install these in a 2015 Subaru Outback. Crutchfield did not have a MasterSheet and included no instructions. I was able to find some information on the Internet. The supplied bracket required some modifications. Only two of the existing bracket holes would line up with the speaker frame holes and required drilling two new holes so screws could be inserted at all four points. I removed the door panels but could not uncouple two of the couplings. I ended up taking the speakers somewhere to be installed. As to sound I would just say ok. I thought the bass is boomy and not very tight. I don't know that I would purchase these again. If I had it to do over again I would just go to a stereo shop.

Pros: Ok sound

Cons:

Good sound, reasonable price.

Replaced Toyota 4runner factory speakers with these JBLs. The Highs and Mids are very Clear, the Lows are pretty good too. Running on aftermarket Pioneer supplying 50 watts power to them which is sufficient for me. Crutchfield is top notch for full customer experience. Diagram and instructions, as well as ordring and shipping was only 2 days! Ive been ordering with them for a few vehicles and highly recommend them to anyone! Keep up the great work!

Pros: Ease of install, supplied brackets and wires. Got them on sale.

I have and will always be a JBL fan. I replaced my factory speakers on my 2010 Corolla with this awesome 6x9's. I could not imagined how cheap the factory speakers were until I removed them. The supplied speaker wires added to the pleasant install experience.

Pros: clear and crisp sound

Cons: Crutchfield recommends installing these speakers by drilling new holes. I purchased adapters plates from a separate site which made the install a lot easier and worth the price.

Got these speakers to replace the stock front door units in a 2015 Outback. Speakers fit into existing openings and with the supplied mounting kit, pretty much bolted right up. The sound quality is head and shoulders above the stock speakers. I just disconnected the stock tweaters.

Pros: Easy to install, great sound.

Cons:

2002 Chrysler 300M
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers based on other customer reviews stating that they had very good bass. After installation (with Pioneer MVH-X370BT), the highs and mids sound great, but does lack a deep thumping bass. The bass is there but sounds a bit flat. If you listen to music with a lot of bass, I would not recommend these speakers unless you have a sub. Overall, I am happy with the speakers, but if I had to do it again, I would purchase a different set of 6x9.

Pros: Great highs and mids

Cons: Lacks a deep bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased these 6x9 speakers to replace the factory speakers in my nissan titan. First time purchasing any JBL speaker and I'm glad I did. The highs are crisp and clear. The midrange comes thru incredibly and the bass while not deep is quality without speaker popping or fuzzy sounding. But hey there 6x9's not 12 inch subwoofers! Would defiantly purchase JBL speakers again!

Pros: Clean highs Great midrange

Cons: Not the best bass but more than adequate.

Great product, great sound in my 2012 corolla. I have the 6" in the front door and 6x9 in the rear, and the sound is great. Good depth from the 6x9's in both high and low frequency. Would buy them again.

Pros: Good response, good highs and lows. Great sounding all around.

Cons: Factory stereo/head unit doesn't push enough power to get out the full quality of speakers. Had to custom install and fit the speakers into the rear panel.

I have like JBL for a long time and these are just another reason to keep using them. I installed them in the back dash of a 2010 Toyota Corolla with the GT7-6s in the front doors. As I have come to expect with JBL,they had great, clear and crisp sound. As a factory replacement they work great, but they are left wanting more power. Adding an amplifier would only make a great sound better.

Pros: Clear and Crisp Sound

2013 Toyota Prius
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these speakers in my 2013 Toyota Prius III. The standard speakers are horrible as far as build quality. The magnet is glued to the back and is about 3 times smaller than anything I've seen. The sound was just OK but a little muddy. The JBL speakers made a world of difference but they didn't have much to prove against the stock speakers. The bass is solid and the midrange and high range are crisp and clear. If you have the standard paper speakers in your Toyota, you can't go wrong with these. I have yet to install the rear 6.6" JBL's but I'm sure the sound will be even better. Thanks to Crutchfield for providing the accessories and instructions to make the install easy.

Pros: Great Sound, Build Quality

Cons: None so far

Tweeters: Each speaker has an edge-driven dome tweeter and dome super tweeter, both made of PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide). PEI is a polymer film, capable of producing a wide soundstage.
