GT7-96 profile

The compact design of the GT7-96 makes it a fit for a wide variety of cars.

A cool upgrade

How do they do it?

This is a whopper of a speaker. Patented Plus One™ architecture expands the surface area of the big oval polypropylene woofer, so you'll enjoy impressive bass. An edge-driven dome tweeter and supertweeter handle a wider range of frequencies to create a seamless transition between the midrange and high frequencies.

JBL built these GT7 speakers to handle up to 70 watts RMS, so they'll perform spectacularly with an aftermarket radio or amp, but with a design geared toward maximum efficiency, you'll get superior performance even from a factory radio. Grilles are included for a custom installation.

Features

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Tweeters: Each speaker has an edge-driven dome tweeter and dome super tweeter, both made of PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide). PEI is a polymer film, capable of producing a wide soundstage.

Q
Thinking of using these on a 2005 Toyota Sienna w/JBL w/o Nav or DVD .. for the front doors. I hear the front door factory speakers are 2.3-2.9 ohm. Will these 4 ohm speakers sound different?

THe sound quality or range will not be affected. It will require slightly more power from amp to achieve same db output at 4 ohm resistance.

I would guess they wouldn't be as loud as you may want. It will take more power to push to these speakers. It's not a huge Ohm difference but just depends on how much power you've got in my opinion.
jamin  Apr 11, 2017

These speakers will almost certainly sound different, but it has very little to do with ohm's. It has been my experience that factory speakers, be it JBL, Bose, Sony, Infinity, etc., are almost ALWAYS regular, cheap paper speakers that have been "tuned" a little by these companies. These speakers will be much higher quality, the added ohm rating will simply put slightly more strain on a factory head unit. Pair these with a decent amp and they will blow you away.

They are better quality than stock, if your amp'd they make a huge difference. If not the ssound quality is a little crisper than stock.

Q
How Much Air Space Does This 6"x9" Model Need?
anthony  Apr 21, 2016

A
Like most full-range car speakers, these JBLs are designed to work in an "infinite baffle" meaning; they do not require any specific enclosure or amount of airspace for optimum performance. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
