When you're putting together a car stereo setup with external amplifiers, remember that component speaker systems designed for high-power handling will give you the best sound. JBL introduces their MS Series component speakers — designed specifically to perform their best when you're pouring on the power.

Highs and lows
JBL's MS-62C component speaker system sports a 6-3/4" woofer housed in a rugged cast aluminum basket that's specially vented to shed heat and run cool. The cone's fiberglass laminate construction ensures that it'll hold its shape when the music is kicking and the volume is high, so you'll enjoy tight, clean bass and accurate midrange output without missing a beat.

Titanium sets the bar for crisp high-frequency response, and you can rely on the MS-62C's 1" titanium tweeter to cut through road and wind noise. The inverted dome tweeter design offers strong output and excellent dispersion — ideal for sharp stereo imaging.

Adjustable crossovers for fine-tuned sound
This speaker set comes with a pair of high-quality external crossover networks, featuring superior components that create a smooth transition between the woofer and tweeter. Tailor the sound to your car and taste with three levels of tweeter output and phase control.

Note: JBL describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Product Highlights:

  • component speaker system includes 2 woofers, 2 tweeters, and 2 external crossovers
  • 6-3/4" fiberglass laminate woofer cone with rubber surround
  • 1" titanium inverted-dome tweeter
  • 2-way external crossover with 3-position tweeter level and phase reversal settings
  • vented cast-aluminum basket
  • power handling: 10-80 watts RMS (320 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 60-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 89 dB
  • woofer top-mount depth: 2-3/8"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

reliability is a problem

Written By Jesse, ogden utah on Sunday, November 17, 2013

To start thes sound amazing, like everyone said. However, I first received a set open box special, which was blown or separated or something. So I contacted customer service which they sent me out some new ones no problem.

So, the new ones I got installed with a JL amp and granted it's capeable of pushing more amperage than thes can handle so I set the gain pretty low (1/4 ish) and hoped it would be fine. But a month later an here I am with another blown speaker.

Since the amp is capable of 130 watts per channel I can't completely accuse JBL of not having a great speaker, but I wouldnt purchase these again.

Pros: sound great

Cons: not reliable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well....This speakers are powered with a DHD NTX 2008 4ch(witch is is not the cleanest amp) but....the sound from these is great .... the only problem compared with JBL GT6-69 , these need MORE POWER THAN THE JBL GT6-69!!DB's differences are noticeable. The sound is crisp and clear with some bass sound makes it perfect. GREAT JOB ...JBL!!

Pros: Crisp and clear sound so far. Fits in the original speakers locations with a little inventive work.

Cons: Need nice power amp to be heard

Unbelievable CRISP sound!!

I've been a sound enthusiast all my life and believe in using a high end component speaker in every vehicle because let's face it..there's not to many cars that REALLY come with a decent sound system even in this day and age. I've used Boston Acoustic, Hertz Audio, JL Audio....etc but nothing has come close to the sound that these speakers provide at high volume. Not even a little distortion at 100watts. What's funny is I do actually listen to music at very high volume and usually after a while the high's start giving me a headache, the mids and highs are so perfect the sound just flows right through them providing crystal clear sounds for everyone OUTSIDE of the truck to hear as well. LOL These are a great choice if you're listening to any type of music and can pretty much handle anything you throw at them.

Pros: Crisp clear mids and highs with a little bit of a tight bump from the 6 1/2 woofer. Can handle more power than I expected, fit perfectly and look great inside the vehicle.

Cons: ZERO

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are sooooo loud and incredibly clear at high volume! I am throwing 100W RMS at each component pair, and they are incredible. I would fully recommend these to anyone, and I would buy another pair.

Woofer Cones: The woofer cones are a lightweight yet rigid fiberglass laminate, minimizing distortion due to cone flex and improving the bass response. The rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Woofer Baskets: The woofers' cast-aluminum baskets are vented to dissipate heat, allowing them to play louder without the distortion caused by power compression. A woofer phase plug further reduces heat buildup by allowing air to move freely within the motor assembly for greater voice-coil cooling.

Terminals: The wire terminals on the woofers are spring posts; they will accept bare wire up to 12 gauge.

Inverted-Dome Tweeters: The inverted-dome titanium tweeters are stiff, light, and extremely efficient.

Mounting: The tweeters can be flush mounted or surface mounted using the included housings. The surface mount housings are angled and offer two mounting options, approximately 9° and approximately 40°.

Tweeter Mounting Dimensions:

Flush Mount 9° Surface Mount 40° Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.334" 1.27" 1.61"
Depth 0.644" N/A N/A
Frame Diameter 2.02" 1.773" 1.773"
Cutout Diameter 1.783" N/A N/A
Width N/A 1.773" 1.773"
Surface Depth N/A 1.841" 1.885"

External Crossover: The MS-62C system features external 2-way passive crossovers using wire-wound resistors and polypropylene caps.

Tweeter Output Level: Each crossover allows you to select the tweeter output level according to system requirements and personal preference. The tweeter level can be set to 0 dB (flat), -3 dB, or -6 dB.

Tweeter Phase: The tweeter phase can also be easily reversed using jumpers in the crossovers.

Crossover Connections: The crossover inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accommodate spade connectors up to 0.3" wide.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 3.08"
  • Height: 1.15"
  • Depth: 5.11"
