The Series III S3-1024 10" sub handles up to 450 watts RMS, and it's optimized for use in a very small sealed enclosure. JBL uses the airflow from the motor to cool the 2-1/2" voice coil, so you can rely on this sub to stay cool in the heat of battle. The sturdy polypropylene cone and nitrile rubber surround will stand up all the abuses of heavy bass output.

Selectable impedance

This Series III subwoofer features SSI™ (Selectable Smart Impedance), a switch which lets you change the sub's impedance from 2 ohms to 4 ohms to optimize its effectiveness with your system. If you upgrade your amplifier or decide to add another sub, you'll be able to adjust the S3-1024's impedance to match.

Versatile power

Features

Selectable Smart Impedance (SSI): A switch on the input terminal allows you to easily change the woofer's impedance between 2Ω and 4Ω settings. (The connected amplifier should be off when changing the impedance.)

NBR Surround: Nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) is a synthetic rubber, well-suited for automotive woofer surround applications. It is durable, can withstand a wide range of temperatures (-40 to 226 °F), and is resistant to breakdown due to UV light exposure.

Terminal: The set screw wire terminals will accept bare wire up to 10 gauge and are tightened/loosened with a 2.5mm Allen wrench (not included).

Enclosure Recommendations:

Sealed Box Volume: 0.5 ft³
Ported Box Volume: 1.5 ft³ with one 3" diameter x 11.3" long port (tuned to 30 Hz)
Infinite Baffle: The woofer can also be mounted in free air to a baffle board (no enclosure). When mounted in free air, the power handling is lowered to 225 watts RMS.
Band Pass: A prefabricated band pass enclosure is also mentioned in the manual as acceptable, but no specific size or tuning recommendations are listed.

Is this woofer a good match for JBL gtx500 mono amp ran @ 2 ohms in a 1.8 cu.ft sealed enclosure?? Any help would be appreciated..... Thanks!

Rodney, I currently use mine with an Alpine MRV- m500 amplifier and an Atrend bBox 10 ported enclosure. The enclosure is 1.25cu.ft. and tuned to 39Hz. I have had zero issues with the sub running at 2 ohms, and I opted for the ported enclosure so that my gain stage can stay clean. For what it's worth, my first box was a sealed box. I made the decision to change boxes within 48 hours.

Hello. I have a JBL GTX500. And a Sealed box with .77 Cu Ft(Each). Can I run 2 of these (2 Ohm mono)? Or would I do better with the S2 model? I have seen tests on You-Tube. Showing this Amp as making around 700 Watts rms(14v). Thank you

You can set the switch on each sub for 4 ohms and wire two of them in parallel to the mono channel of your GTX500. This will present a final 2 Ohm load to the amp and get 500 watts (250 per sub) RMS (rated power by JBL). I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

What is the RMS power handling at 4 ohms? Will the Alpine PDR V75 work at 4 ohms with this sub?

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: For this and all speakers the RMS power rating is static regardless of impedance. This sub is rated at 450 watts RMS. Amplifier output ratings frequently change with rated impedance. The sub channel of the Alpine PDR V75 is rated at 250 RMS at 4-ohms and 350 RMS at 2-ohms. In this application the 2-ohm setting would be preferable for the JBL S3-1024. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
