About the JBL Cinema SB 100

Woody Sherman
Not feeling the impact from your television's tiny built-in speakers? What if we told you that with AC power and one cable from your television we could up your audio game noticeably — with a little help from JBL, of course. This wall-mountable sound bar will give you the performance you've come to expect from a nameplate as distinguished as theirs, with 60 watts of ready power waiting to fill your room the minute you hook up the SB 100. Two premium 3.5" cone woofers and two 1.5" dome tweeters deliver clear, authoritative sound. Plus, JBL's surprising Display Surround technology will give you a surround-like soundstage that will help you be less of a spectator and more of a participant in whatever you're watching.

    Features

Soundbar Speaker System: The JBL Cinema SB100 is a complete, integrated soundbar speaker system that dramatically improves the sound reproduction of your flat-panel TV. Designed to complement 27" and larger flat-panel televisions, the JBL Cinema SB100 is ideal for people who want premium sound quality with impressive bass performance in a nonintrusive, easy-to-install solution. The SB100 Soundbar system features exclusive Harman Display Surround, as well as analog and optical digital audio inputs. It can mount on a wall or sit on a shelf.

Speaker & Amplifier Section: The SB100 Soundbar houses two 1.5" dome tweeters and dual 3" premium cone woofers powered by a 60-Watt amplifier.

Harman Display Surround: Drawing from Harman expertise in movie theater audio, the Cinema SB100 lets you add cinema sound without adding multiple speakers. Employing proprietary Harman Display Surround technology, it creates a virtual surround-sound experience for multiple listeners from a single soundbar.

Bass Boost: JBL is known for exceptional bass response, and the Cinema SB100 lets you increase low-frequency performance at the touch of a button on the included remote. The added bass impact is ideal for movie soundtracks.

Analog + Digital Inputs: The Cinema SB100 features both analog (minijack) & digital (optical) inputs to connect your flat-panel TV and a Blu-ray/DVD player, or satellite/cable box to the system. The soundbar only supports 2-channel PCM through its optical digital input (not Dolby Digital).

Note: If your television does not support 2-channel PCM through its optical digital output, you will need to connect the SB100 using the analog 3.5mm stereo input.

Subwoofer Output: The Cinema SB100 soundbar speaker is fitted with a mono-subwoofer output (with built-in fixed low-pass crossover) to connect a separate powered subwoofer for added bass response.

Remote Control: The Cinema SB100 comes with a credit card-sized IR remote. However, this soundbar speaker can also "learn" the IR (infrared) volume-control code of your existing TV remote control, taking away the need to keep track of yet another remote for controlling the volume on the soundbar.

Mounting Options: You can place the Cinema SB100 on a shelf or tabletop, or wall-mount it with the included bracket. A dual-position equalization feature optimizes the soundbar's performance for any location. So you can position it where you choose without compromising sound quality.

It is from an electronic standpoint however it is longer than 22 inches.
    michael  Mar 31, 2015

I would say yes. As long as your tv has some sort of audio out it will. For the most part the trick is to get the tv settings right. Enjoy!
    mike  Mar 31, 2015

Check to make sure the set has compatible output. Also it may look a little strange since it is much wider than the tv.
    armand  Mar 31, 2015

I think a 22 inch is too small for this sound bar. I have it on a 48 inch flat screen. It sounds great when I crank it up. Great buy for the money though.

It can be placed on a piece of furniture such as an entertainment console unit or on a shelf. It is well balanced and does not vibrate or move.

It can sit on a shelf.

Oh, it does have little pads on it so it does sit on a shelf. I misread the question...
    mike  Jan 14, 2015

It sits just fine on a horizontal surface. There's a setting in the back that adjusts the sound according to whether you have it mounted on a wall or sitting on a table/shelf.
    gayle  Jan 14, 2015

This does come with a wall mount bracket. Two screws and done deal. What I did find is that if the bracket is mounted directly on the wall the bass can be a little boomy. I spaced it out about 3/4" and it did make a difference.

It can sit on a shelf.

No, it does not have to. I have it on top of my entertainment cabinet.

It's on my wall right now, but could rest atop the entertainment center. I recently bought a Bose Cinemate 15. This JBL product was a HUGE disappointment
    miguel  Jan 14, 2015

No, it doesn't have to be mounted. My TV sits on a stand. The sound bar sits right under the screen. I was able to turn off the sound on the TV which was a distraction with the sound bar. Sounds good!

Can sit on a shelf or TV stand top

Mine is sitting right under my flat screen on the TV stand shelf, no mounting, unless you want to put it on a wall.

Hi I bought a philips 3200 smart tv and wondering if this will work with my tv? Do I need to buy additional cables? We have an old surround system at the moment and cannot get it to work with the red and white plugs alone.

Yes it will work. And no additional purchases will be necessary.

You can use RCA (the red and white plugs) or digital (fiber-optical) connectors to connect this sound bar to your TV. A digital connector is included with the sound bar, but RCA cables are not. Enjoy your new TV!

hi, I have u-verse att and the surround would only work when I connected the red and white to (audio out) on cable box, also optical plug was connected to the cable box, when I connected the cables to the tv the sound bar would not work, it needed to come from source of signal, it does work well for the price. THE CRUTCHFIELD REPS helped me and they maybe able to help you, Neil

The best way to use the JBL SOUND BAR IS WITH a fiber optic cable. Your smart tv should have a location for fiber cable. You will get best sound that way.

Hi I bought my jbl speakers for my ex BFs birthday. I do think you need speakers. I remember him going to local big box store to buy the cables.

I think your OK. A fiber cable came with the unit a plugged into my 5 year old set. I would assume your newer set has such a connection. Check the instruction book. Overall we are happy with the unit. Good luck.

You may want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your original system. They will be able to pull up your TV and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Hi, Jim-- I had trouble getting local television broadcast audio through the sound bar (I don't have cable) and no one could figure it out for awhile. Finally, Steve Kindig, a Crutchfield TV guy, wrote me the following:> OK, I think I know what the problem is -- and you may have mentioned> this, and I just couldn't wrap my brain around it. The JBL sound ba> can only accept PCM audio through its optical input. It doesn't> support Dolby Digital audio which is the format for over-the-ai> broadcast TV. That's a terrible design for a sound bar -- which is> designed to be used with a TV -- but it's not the only model we> carry that is limited in that way.>I'm not conversant with the technical jargon, but did glean that the sound bar / LG TV combo might have some limitations. My guess is that VuDu is using audio signal that won't use the optical output to the sound bar.Steve was helpful.
