The JBL Cinema SB 200 sound bar's good looks and rich sound add enhance your TV experience.
Hidden within this handsome but compact sound bar is the sound your TV wanted to have, but was too crowded to house. It doesn't take a lot of depth to make a small speaker sound good, though. The Cinema SB 200 is barely 4 inches deep, yet its performance bears a strong family resemblance to the classic soul-satisfying sound that has made JBL a household name for decades.
Though the JBL Cinema SB 200 has two channels, it's capable of generating a generous surround-like soundfield through their innovative Display Surround technology. And this sound bar's inputs aren't restricted to improving your television's audio. Built-in Bluetooth® circuitry will receive signals from your smartphone, tablet, or other compatible streaming devices, so you can fill your viewing room with the music that's available at your fingertips.
Add big sound to your TV without a roomful of speakers. Sound bars require minimal space and wiring, and their sleek designs complement today's flat-panel TVs. Most sound bars have their own built-in amplification, so you won't need to use a home theater receiver. Some models use advanced surround processing and carefully aimed speaker drivers to simulate the effects of a full home theater audio system.
Actually when playing music I think my TV speaker sound better. Sound bar is much better at delivering the low end, but it sounds pretty muddy. Underwhelming I think. I don't use it at all for sports or movie viewing.
I made a great choice on this sound bar. It really adds to the quality of sound in the room. Easy to hook up as well.
Pros: Plug it in & play. Good sound quality. Very nice appearance on the shelf as well.
Cons: A little trouble with getting the volume to sync. with my TV remote
the sound is very surprising, for a small foot print it has big sound, i have a surround sound system in another room, this can't take the place of that but does very well without a driver using just the tv output. the bass is a real plus as it does make the sound come alive.
Pros: plug and play, i thought i had a optical out but it's not digital, used the 3.5mm with a headphone jack, still great sound
Cons: the remote is easy to lose, can't see the buttons on the unit from the front, has optical for digital but not coaxial.
Ready to go out of the box. Wish it had HD plugs.
Pros: Simple to use. Blue tooth nice touch.
Cons: Deeper bass would be nice.
I contacted the Crutchfield tech team with my stereo configuration and the trade-offs I was dealing with. They suggested several different options and then helped me whittle down the selection based upon how much I wanted to spend. I unpacked the sound bar, plugged it in and fired up immediately. I did have one problem with getting the sound through from the TV but that was a user error because I didn't properly cycle through the various input options. Again, the Crutchfield team was very helpful and we had a good laugh about "user errors". The Bluetooth connected immediately with my IPhone (without a user error). The interesting advantage came while I was watching the CBS show Sherlock Holmes. I had always had problems understand Sherlock on my Samsung TV (which I thought had decent sound). His voice just seemed a little muddled between the tone and the accent. The sound bar is providing a much more understandable sound so I can hear the dialect without as much strain. This sound bar is great for the cost. I'm sure more expensive ones are much better but life is out tradeoffs.....
Pros: Excellent sound. Easy to set up.
Cons: Nothing really.
Purchased the item less than list price. Connected to a remote location with a 25' optical digital cable. Connected to a pop up TV encased in a box that had poor sound as the speakers were in the back. Mounted the speaker in the soffit above the TV and got great results.
Pros: Good sound and was easy to pair to the TV remote,
Cons: Optical digital cable was too short for my application.
I wanted a sound bar without a subwoofer that would work through the TV remote, and had Bluetooth so my wife could use her I-pod. I would say overall I got all that with this unit at a comparable price to other units. I had trouble with the audio connection at first, but once I played with it enough to get it in the proper position everything was good. The Comcast remote paired easily, but the unit doesn't respond to the volume control as quickly/easily as it does to it's own remote. Perhaps this is a problem of the Comcast remote? TV dialogue is much easier to hear vs the Samsung TV speakers, and this was my main goal. When I want to "hear" music I always go through my home stereo system, which is why I didn't want a subwoofer, but music via the JBL is acceptable. I wish the optical audio cord was longer because that restricted where I could set it up, which wasn't where I had planned at first. Aesthetically it isn't the nicest looking unit, but I'm getting used to it. I've had no troubles with the unit going to sleep and waking up with the TV, which is good.
Pros: Good, clear dialogue; respectable music; comes with Bluetooth.
Cons: Short optical cord; rather bland looking unit; volume control with Comcast remote is fussy
Had connection problem. Item returned
Cons: Hard to install
Great sound, easy to install and configure
Pros: Great sound for the price, bluetooth connectivity a big plus
Cons: A little tall for 32 inch tv on tabletop mount
Overall effect was good, but it needed more bass
Pros: Overall effect was good
Cons: Needed more bass
Sound quality is great. Much better than the TV speakers. However the auto on feature does not work. The SB200 goes into standby mode and stays there until manually switched back on. The Quick Start manual (pg. 5) states that it should automatically go on when an audio signal is received. I noticed that the "new" manual on JBL's web site has this sentence removed.
Pros: Excellent sound Good price
Cons: Auto on feature does not work.
Easy set up, great sound. Great help from Tech Guys.
Provides excellent, richer sound than my Sony Bravia's built-in speakers. I can actually understand more dialogue in more shows! However, I have struggled with programming my remotes to control the device. My wife gets mad when it doesn't power up with the TV and is vocal about having to have yet another remote. For this I have to give it fewer stars. I also struggled with short cords when wiring to my set-up, but I have that with most products.
Cons: setting up other remotes
Nice sound, good base. Not too overpowering.
Pros: Plug and play. Had to connect soundbar to TV.
I give the JBL Cinema SB200 4/5 stars, but really must elaborate because my impression is mixed. It meets my needs perfectly, and I am quite satisfied with my purchase. The most important attributes for me are sound quality and value. While I think it is actually too expensive, the fact of the matter is that this JBL outperforms even more expensive alternatives. The SB200 is even better at dialog (and all but the bass range) than the more expensive model that JBL replaced it with (though that one does benefit from a subwoofer).
There are some problems I've discovered with the SB200, however. -The unit's auto-off feature doesn't work if Bluetooth has been used, even if no longer "paired" with a compatible device and its own input has been switched to either analog or optical digital. The unit must be powered-off manually with the toggle switch in order to restore the auto-off feature next time it is turned on. - When the auto-off feature does work, the SB200 will only turn itself back on properly when it senses an analog signal. An optical digital signal will not 'wake-up' the SB200. - The simulated surround feature is just as bad as on all other similar soundbars.
Summary: The SB200 sounds much better than similar competition. Build quality is great. Bluetooth works well, but the auto-off/on feature doesn't work as well as advertised. I wish there were a cheaper version without simulated surround or Bluetooth.
Pros: Sounds good. Sounds much better than similar competition. Build quality is great.
Cons: There are some problems with the auto-off/on feature (see my post above for more info).

Soundbar Speaker System: The JBL Cinema SB200 is a complete, integrated soundbar system that dramatically improves the sound reproduction of your flat-panel TV and wirelessly streams music from your Bluetooth-enabled devices. Designed to complement 32" and larger flat-panel televisions, the JBL Cinema SB200 is ideal for people who want premium sound quality with impressive bass performance in a nonintrusive, easy-to-install solution. The SB200 Soundbar system features exclusive Harman Display Surround, built-in Dolby Digital decoding, as well as analog and optical digital audio inputs. It can mount on a wall or sit on a shelf.
Speaker & Amplifier Section: The SB200 Soundbar houses two 1" dome tweeters and dual 3.5" premium cone woofers powered by a 120-Watt amplifier. The two high-excursion woofers and the enclosure's dual port design, let you enjoy impressive bass performance without making you find room for an external subwoofer.
Harman Display Surround + Dolby Digital Decoding: Drawing from Harman expertise in movie theater audio, the Cinema SB200 lets you add cinema sound without adding multiple speakers. Employing proprietary Harman Display Surround technology, it creates a virtual surround-sound experience for multiple listeners from a single soundbar. The Cinema SB200 can also decode Dolby Digital soundtracks, which eliminates conversion stages that reduce sound quality.
Bluetooth Technology: The Cinema SB200 features built-in Bluetooth A2DP, which allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, laptop/computer, or other Bluetooth-enabled device to the JBL soundbar speaker system.
Bass Boost: JBL is known for exceptional bass response, and the Cinema SB200 lets you increase low-frequency performance at the touch of a button on the included remote. The added bass impact is ideal for movie soundtracks.
Analog + Digital Inputs: The Cinema SB200 features both analog (minijack) & digital (optical) inputs to connect your flat-panel TV and a Blu-ray/DVD player, or satellite/cable box to the system.
Remote Control: The Cinema SB200 comes with a credit card-sized IR remote. However, this soundbar speaker can also "learn" the IR (infrared) volume-control code of your existing TV remote control, taking away the need to keep track of yet another remote for controlling the volume on the soundbar.
Mounting Options: You can place the Cinema SB200 on a shelf or tabletop, or wall-mount it with the included bracket. A dual-position equalization feature optimizes the soundbar's performance for any location. So you can position it where you choose without compromising sound quality.
