Jensen + DUB

Since 1925, Jensen has been a pioneer in home and car electronics, developing landmark products such as the first high-efficiency loudspeaker and the first car stereo speaker.  Now Jensen has partnered with DUB® magazine, the leading publication in the urban automotive lifestyle market, to introduce DUB Edition speakers and amplifiers, featuring DUB-designed cosmetics and co-designed components.

Good news for your next cruise

The DUB Series DUBa4100 4-channel amplifier will send 70 watts RMS to each of your front and rear speakers, while its variable frequency filters and bass boost let you zoom in on the sound you want. You can also set up the DUBa4100 can also be wired to drive two channels at 170 watts for a 4-ohm load, making it a good choice for driving subwoofers as well.

This Class AB amp uses a MOSFET power supply and high-current output transistors to deliver strong, reliable power, and it features full short-circuit, DC offset, and thermal protection, so the music won't stop until you want it to. And why would you want it to? You've got DUB on the case.

My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Great Amp as Expected

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this amp to replace another (Jensen XA4100; 50 x 4 Car Amplifier) that I purchased from Crutchfield over a decade ago. It finally blew after 12+ years of service and I needed something to push my '96 Mazda B3000's front and rear (Kenwood) 6 x 8's accompanied by a powered 12" sealed Sub. This one fit in the exact mounting place of the Jensen XA4100 with the wiring and wiring method being identical (11 minute uninstall/install, lucky me...). The tuning options I needed for my 4 channel set-up were similar, if not identical to that of the Jensen XA4100 I replaced with it's variable input levels, filter selection and continuously variable crossover points per front/rear channel(s). The power is there when I need it and it's clean power, living up to it's high 100dBA Signal to Noise Ratio. When I 'push' the system in my truck 'hard' for long periods of time it heats the amp up a bit, but no problems there as it never gets to the point that thermal protection has to kick in and it sounds great throughout it's range moderate to loud. No old school fins on this one for cooling, but it is generously vented on the bottom of the unit with cooling in mind. I am very happy and satisfied with my purchase of this Jensen amp and if the performance and service (12+ years) is anything like the older Jensen amp I replaced, I will continue to love Jensen and their "great bang for your buck" 4 channel amp(s). Not a competition amp, but aggressive and clean.

Pros: Extensive Tuning options, Rugged and Modestly stylish, Robust and clean Power

Cons: None, at this time.

Product Research

Overview: The Jensen DUB Edition amplifiers offer performance and value for your vehicle's sound system. With a MOSFET power supply and high-current Toshiba bi-polar output transistors, the DUB amps provide lots of power and control to give your music impressive punch and clarity. The Class AB design reduces idle current and minimizes distortion.

Power Output: The DUBa4100 4-channel amplifier delivers the following power output:

  • CEA Specifications: RMS power output @ 1% THD+N, 20-20kHz, 14.4 VDC:
    • 70 watts x 4 @ 4 ohms
    • 90 watts x 4 @ 2 ohms
    • 170 watts x 2 bridged stereo @ 4 ohms
  • RMS Power Output @ 2% THD+N, 1 kHz, 14.4 VDC:
    • 75 watts x 4 @ 4 ohms
    • 100 watts x 4 @ 2 ohms
    • 200 watts x 2 bridged stereo @ 4 ohms

Protection Circuitry: The amplifier features protection circuitry for thermal overload, DC-offset, and short circuits. The LED on the top of the amp glows yellow if a fault is detected.

Pass-thru RCAs: The DUBa4100 has a pair of RCA connectors that allow you to connect additional amplifiers without having to use a Y-adapter. The line output is unfiltered, providing the same signal as the RCA input.

End Caps: The DUB Edition amps include end caps to cover the wiring and controls for a clean installation. The end caps can be painted to match your vehicle, if desired. The end cap brackets can be removed if you wish to install the amp without the end caps.

Input Level: The DUBa4100's rotary gain control let you match the amp's input sensitivity to the output of the source unit. There are independent input level controls for the front (Channels 1&2) and rear (Channels 3&4). The input sensitivity range of the amplifier is continuously variable between 400mV and 5V. A small screwdriver (not included) is required to set the gain.

Crossover: The amp features 12 dB/octave crossovers that are adjustable from 40 to 300 Hz. There are independent crossovers for the front (Channels 1&2) and rear (Channels 3&4). A 3-way switch lets you configure the crossovers for high-pass or low-pass operation, or switched to full-range to defeat the crossover.

Bass EQ: The DUBa4100 has a 0 to 12dB bass EQ, centered at 45Hz. There are separate Bass EQ controls for the front (Channels 1&2) and rear (Channels 3&4). These are useful for varying the amount of bass if you're running the amp in bridged stereo for driving subwoofers. Ported and Bandpass enclosures should be limited to approximately +6dB to +9dB of boost, while sealed enclosures should be able to accept the full +12dB of boost.

Mode Switch: The Mode switch is a 3-way slide switch that lets you configure the amp for three different input modes: 2 channel (feeds signal to all 4 channels from 2 inputs), 3 channel (feeds signal to all 4 channels with a stereo input for the front and a mono input for the rear), or 4 channel (feeds signal to the 4 channels with individual inputs for each).

Terminals: The Jensen DUBa4100 uses screw terminals for the +12V power, ground, turn-on (remote) lead, and speaker outputs. The screws can be tightened/loosened with a Phillips-head or flat-head screwdriver (not provided).

Power/Ground: The +12V Power and Ground terminals will accept spade connectors up to 7/16" (0.4375") wide. It is recommended that you use an 8 AWG power wire to the battery, with an in-line 40A fuse installed no more than 18" from the battery terminal. An 8 AWG ground wire (minimum) should be used, and attached to a metal area close to the amplifier.

Remote Turn-On: The Remote screw terminal will accept a spade connector up to 5/16" (0.3125"). Typically, an 18 AWG turn-on lead is included in an amplifier wiring kit.

Low-Level Input: The amplifier is equipped with two pairs of RCA inputs for connecting stereo RCA patch cables from the head unit to the amp. A stereo RCA line output is also provided for daisy-chaining another amplifier without requiring a Y-adapter.

Speaker Outputs: The amp features four positive and four negative screw terminals for connecting four speakers in stereo. To bridge the amp to 2 channels, you should connect the Channel 1 & 3 left + and the Channel 2 & 4 right - terminals to the speakers. You can also connect the amp in 3-channel mode by wiring the Front channels in stereo to two full-range speakers, and bridging the Rear channels to a subwoofer. The terminals will accept a spade connector up to 5/16" (0.3125") wide. It is recommended that you use a minimum of 12 AWG wire.
