Its a compromise

I loved my vm9311ts, until it broke. had it for 2 years. about 6 months ago, the cd player started acting up, then last week the screen wont extract. it is now out of warranty and sent it our for repair for $137. but even still, the price was right and it was cool while it lasted. i figure it will be fine for 2 more years when i get it back. by then who knows if i'll still have the truck.

Beware you get what you pay for

The features for the price is a good deal if you want to give up sound quality. My VM9311ts has been installed for about 3 weeks. It sounds like the speakers are in a drum with the lid on it. my factory radio sounded better. The FM tuner only works good if you are in the city where the station is. If you move away at all it get static quickly. The price is good on this unit but you get what you pay for.

Well this unit is nice with exception to the ipod features. you have to click and click and click should have a option to play by playlist. other con it using the terk1000 which is recommended which didnt work all it would do is play the preview channel and yes it was activated. I wasnt able to call to get that fixed as later that night my car was broken into and that was one of many items taken so with my two install review i gave it 4 stars

I started searching for a affordable in dash player but i could not find on as affordable as the jensen. I was nervous to buy because it was so cheap and reading some of the reviews made me even more nervous. I took a chance and bought the jensen. I LOVE IT! I have had no problems with the player, and i love the ipod option. the picture quality is amazing for the price. I highly recommend the jensen. I recieved my player within a day and a half of ordering it and i installed it same day. GET THE JENSEN!

I installed this unit in my Peterbilt387 a few months ago and its great,my only problem is... in the owners manual pg2 it says there's an optional navigation system (nav100)i could buy that goes with it problem can not be found anywhere imust have searched the entire web and and often gets reffered back to Crutchfield just to be told by their sales rep it has been DISCONTINUED, why produce a system if all the attatchments is not accessable? nice system worth the price but i will not recomend it unless someone is only intrested in the basics.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was really skeptic about this jensen product because of all the comments people were saying. Such as its very cheap and crapy, doesn't work well, etc... I decided to order it to see for my self, and I'm glad I did. The picture quality is great, sound quality is great, you can hook up any mp3 player you want, has full iPod interface, and plays all sorts of video format. Its very very easy to hook up, the parking break wire well.... I just grounded it and used the bypass code. No it's not legal to do so, but its so much easier then hooking it up to the real parking break wire. You definitely don't have to worry about the quality of this product! If you ever have something go wrong, crutchfield can help you anytime. JUST one thing to keep in mind, if you have a lot of music with boring or not needed intros, than you might want to consider a different unit. This one can't fast forward cd's. I'm not sure about video cd's yet, but it fast forwards on dvd's. But you don't really need to fast forward do you? Spend an extra 500$ just to fast forward... pointless. Overall this is an amazing product. I am completely satisfied that I got this one and not go broke over an expensive one. Hope this helped.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For years I've wanted an in dash dvd player but have not been willing to pay the high prices on most popular brands. After researching and coming across Jensen's product, the price and reviews on it were to good to pass up and at least try it out. It does everything that the other products do. Everything. Buy this product!!!!

you get what you pay for, no great deal

Written by: Potterguy from Madison Wisconsin on December 11, 2006

I bought this stereo based quite a bit on the fact that almost all of the reviews were 5 stars. I don't know how it got the reviews it did. Let me explain.

The sound is terrible! It sounds like you are listening through a pillow case. There is almost no treble. Two days after I got this, three pixles went out on the screen.

As far as the display goes, there is no adjusting. You can't control the color, contrast, brightness or hue.

The other thing is that the machine will not read a cd half the time. It seems to have difficulty locating some songs on an mp3 disc where as other car cd players that play mp3 discs will have no trouble at all.

My recommendation, stick to either Pioneer, Sony or eclipse to get a cd/dvd player for your car that is worth while!!!

It's a great unit for the money, and it does everything advertised. Just beware: there is a hide-away unit involved, which can bump up your install pice if you don't do it yourself. Also, the iPod unit works well, but will rearange your playlists into alphebetical order when it plays. No changes are made to the iPod, but they won't play in the order you set. All in all, well worth the money.

Jensen turned all-right!

Written by: FazliS85 from Huntington, NY on December 1, 2006

When it comes to decent car audio, Jensen isnt the name that should be screamed out loud (unless you want to get flammed) but I took a gamble when buying this....boy did i hit a jackpot(almost)! First, you wont anywhere find such a value with ipod controls & a crystal clear touch screen! This was replacing my old alpine reciever as I wanted to watch dvds at work (i pretty much work in my car) and it was worth trying. After a painfully long install (im not a pro and took my time), it was the moment of truth: I put the battery terminal back on and thinking i would be dissapointed at the SQ...but i was pretty amazed! Now im not a person who uses sound meters and audio calibration equipment but after a little playing around with the eq and re-hooking my subs...i was very pleased...I probably wouldnt buy anything else BUT this line of products is a hit! I even shaved my emblem off that says Jensen...a friend of sat in my car and he even complimented on the very well defined, balanced sound. After i told him it was jensen/audiovox....he gave me a funny look...

To make things short: GET IT!!!!

Cons: the touch screen is a little annoying b/c of its sensivity but nothing anyone cant used to for such a price & it took some dremeling for a flush install

Good In-expensize DVD player

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great in-expensive dvd player for your vehicle. Easy to install. Lacks some features that the expensive players have, but a good value for your money. Plays all types of burned movies and music, easy to intergrate Ipod and XM radio.

Great price and features, but handicapped with lots of limitations

Written by: INHUMANITY from San Jose, CA on November 12, 2006

You will not find any unit with the features this unit has for this price range!

Audio and Video quality: playback of DivX, XviD, MPEG's, and standard DVD's are crystal clear. No noticeable pixilation, fading, etc.

Using the touch screen to navigate through DVD's is very user easy.

While not an iPod user yet, the ability to connect your iPod to the unit and have full control over it using the touch screen is a big plus. I actually caved in and bought an 80GB iPod Video. I haven't received it yet, but I am looking forward to getting it. I'm dumping my entire 40GB music collection onto the iPod along with all my episodes of Lost, Prison Break, Family Guy, etc onto one piece of hardware. The ability to fully the iPod using the touch screen is a big plus!

Navigating a DVD full of MP3 is extremely tedious. Here's why: You get a full dump of EVERYTHING on your screen. You can't navigate by Album, Artist, Year, etc. So if I have a MP3 album of Anita Baker and an MP3 album of Usher I actually have to "click" the directory button over 50 times until I get to the artists with their name's being closer the end of the alphabet. You can also use the soft button on the screen to the next directory, but even then you have to press it over 50 times to get through your entire collection.

To make things worse you can not fast-forward or rewind MP3's.

I burned a DVD of all the current Prison Break episodes which were in DivX format. They played back beautifully, but here's the most irritating problem. As soon as you turn off your deck the video will start playing over again from the beginning.

Like these guys said... you deffinitly get what you paid for. I haven't had any issues with the remote though. One thing that will take some getting used to is the sensativity of the screen. Sometime you don't push it hard enough... some times to hard and it resets one of your presets. Sound quality is great. I keep my stock speakers in my Explorer, and now I debate getting the subs I planned on.

Great DVD Player

Written by: Jeff from Tucson, AZ on October 12, 2006

You hear Jensen and you think low-quality (although I must admit I don't have much experience with in-dash DVD players), but this player feels like a very high quality player.

It was an easy install and everything has been perfect so far. One gripe I do have is that the remote control is weak in that you at times have to press a button a few times for things to work. I'm going to take one of my "learning" remotes and try it out to see if that makes a difference. If so I'll simply just buy a nice remote for the car.

DVDs look beautiful on this screen and the viewing angle is great.

Some little things that could be better, but well worth 429.99. If u want a good cheap flip up dvd player buy the Jensen.

Written by: JOE from GARNER,NC on September 29, 2006

People say "you get what you pay for", but not in this case. I cannot believe this unit was only $429. Hey this is really a great unit for the money, It has very good clarity on the video side and it works great with Xm. The display is very funtional and easy to read. This unit very user friendly I was also very impress with the power 40x4=160 watts. This is a must buy!!! If you don't want to spend a lot to get a lot this is the way to go. Also it was an ease to install. Only thing I need now is the ipod cable wich is coming soon. Highly satisfied with purchase!!!!!!

Best for the price

You cant beat the price on this dvd player and it works just as good as any 2000 dollar dvd player!!!!!

Display Adjustment: You can adjust the picture's brightness, color, and contrast between -10 and +10.

You cannot display individual photos from the thumbnail menu. During music playback, the controls on the iPod are disabled.

Note: The iPod is charged when it's connected to the head unit.

You may choose from the following presets: Jazz (Bass=+12, Treble=+8), Pop (B=+8, T=+12), Classical (B=+8, T=+8), Rock (B=+12, T=+12), Vocal (B=-6, T=-8), Flat (B=0, T=0), or User.
