Jensen VM9725BT Reviews
Average Customer Review:
Hard To See
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
My biggest complaint about this unit is screen brightness and resolution. The install is in a convertible. The screen is hard to see with the top up or down during the day. Part of the problem is the screen has a reflective surface. The unit overall works fine. Bluetooth easy to set up. I would rate this much higher except for the screen issue
Pros: Nice navigation. Has large points of interest. Driving instructions are very good. Finds shortest routes
Cons: Screen resolution, brightness, reflective screen.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Easy to install but cumbersome to use. Good sound quality and the bluetooth was easy to set-up. The navigation updates were hard to figure out as you have to remove the SD card and purchase a card reader in order to get updates. You also have to install a 3rd party software to get to the map updates. The user manual could be a little better at explaining the process. All, in all not a bad system for the money.
Pros: Price and ease of installation
Cons: Navigation updates are difficult to figure out. Also the button to scan for available FM stations in a manner where you could accidently press it when trying to choose one of the presets. Once you press it all your presets are erased and you have to reset them.

Good price and Good unit
Pros: Every features
Cons: Old design
terrible screen display
Decent for the money, but missing a few key features
Cons: navigation screen colors aren't adjustable...All of the colors are pastel and unreadable on a sunny day. When navigation is being used there is no clock diplay....
Frozen in Time
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
The manufacturer's literature states that you can update your navigation software one time for free by going to the publisher's web site (Naviextras) . When you do this, the site directs you to download and install a piece of software called the Naviextras Toolbox to a PC. Upon my first use of this toolbox I got a warning stating that my GPS device was not closed properly and that I should reactivate the device and shut it down properly by clicking the Exit button. Problem is; there is no Exit button. This warning screen also gives you a selection of "ignore". I tried every thing i could think of to properly shut down my device. Finally, I re- ran the utility and chose the ignore option. That was the last time the micro-sd card with the GPS data was usable. I tried getting Naviextras to send me a new card, they finally stopped responding. Subsequently I had to exchange the entire head unit with Crutchfield (thank God for Crutchfield's understanding). So now with unit two installed and working (but still not able to update the GPS data), I tried blue-toothing my Samsung Galaxy note 2 with the head unit. The phone functions work, but I cannot stream music from the phone to the head unit. This one is on Jensen, they acknowledge the problem via a "trouble ticket system" but cannot give a repair completion date and are not willing to take on the task of notifying customers of when the fix is published. Crutchfield; please never discontinue your "live support!"
Pros: Overall nice unit for the money. I never had any complete fails. Looks good and sounds good in 2003 Toyota Avalon. If you don't care about streaming via blue tooth and don't think you will need to update the GPS data in the foreseeable future this is a good choice.
Cons: Inability to upgrade Navigation data - major. Limited Blue tooth capability (some phones) - major (for me). Interface software is primitive - minor i.e. if you are playing an MP3 via USB and start looking for another file, when the current song stops, you are returned to the "currently playing screen" then when you go back to list, you are back at the top instead of wherever you had been looking. I too will be switching to a Kenwood.

2004 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I ordered the Jensen because I have had good luck with Jensen in the past, and the price was right for the features offered. Installation was easy, and everything seemed to be working properly. Within a few days, I realized something was wrong with the unit. The bluetooth connectivity was terrible, the unit didn't recognize my iPhone half of the time, the CD player wouldn't play any burned CD, and would rarely play purchased CDs, and every once in a while I would get driving directions spoken to me, even when I wasn't using the navigation. I called Crutchfield and they sent a replacement unit without question. I got the 2nd unit in, everything seemed to work that day, and then after a couple of weeks it was obvious this unit was defective too. Nothing worked consistently, except for the radio. I called Crutchfield again and ordered a Kenwood as a replacement unit.
Pros: Installation was easy Fit perfectly in my vehicle (2004 Forester) When things were working, it was easy to use and interface was intuitive Price
Cons: Reliability and consistency, after two units that both didn't work, I had to go for another brand.

Parking Brake Detection: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the supplied pink wire must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged. The pink parking brake wire is used to connect to your parking brake light wire (video on the LCD monitor can only be displayed when this unit's pink PRK SW wire senses that the parking brake has been engaged in the vehicle).
2-DIN Chassis: The Jensen VM9725BT has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as Double DIN or size DD), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets, or Euro-mounted using the supplied mounting sleeve. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.
Aspect Ratio: You can choose from the following aspect ratio modes for the unit's integrated monitor:

You can adjust the front-panel's button illumination between 5 Preset colors (Aqua, Red, Blue, Amber, or Green) or a Custom color (RGB colors).

Navigation Mapping Software: The integrated map database (by TeleAtlas) used by the Jensen VM9725BT was created using high-resolution aerial and land based data collection. Navigation data is stored on the unit's preloaded 4GB microSD-card for quick access and response. The VM925BT provides map coverage of the United States (all 50 states), Canada, and Puerto Rico. The Jensen VM9725BT's integrated iGo Primo navigation software provides turn-by-turn visual and voice assistance to direct you to your selected destination. The built-in software quickly calculates step-by-step directions to any destination available on the included navigation map.
Note: Car navigation maps are frequently updated. While this database was judged to be as accurate as possible at the time of its release, a map database can never be 100% accurate. Road information that is maintained in the map databases, such as turn restrictions or road names may change over time.
Map Updates: It is easy to keep the navigation system up to date. Simply purchased & download new map data from the naviextras.com online portal, store the updated map data on a microSD card, and insert it into the Jensen VM9725BT via the front-panel microSD card slot. You have 90 days from purchase to download the latest available map free of charge.
GPS (Global Position System): Jensen's built-in navigation helps you find your way to your destination with an integrated GPS receiver & external GPS antenna. The Jensen VM9725BT features a built-in SiRFprima GPS receiver and includes an external magnetic GPS antenna. The VM9725BT uses Global Position System (GPS) satellites, and a digital roadway map database to calculate and display vehicle positioning and travel direction. The VM9725BT considers vehicle speed an heading changes, together with longitude and latitude information, to accurately determine vehicle heading and position on a digital map. Signal from GPS satellites are used to determine the vehicle location. Three (good) or four (best) satellites must be receive to accurately determine location. This unit does not transmit your GPS position, so others cannot track you.
On-Screen Map: The unit's on-screen map shows your vehicle's current position (a blue arrow by default), the recommended route (an orange line), the surrounding map area, and your destination as a checkered flag. The on-screen map shows streets, roads, and highways in a way that is similar to how a paper road map show them. A road's width and colors corresponds to their importance, so you can easily tell a freeway from a small street. When navigating a route, the top section of the map screen shows information about your next route maneuver and the next street or the next city/town. When approaching a turn, the map screen will zoom in and raise the view angle to let you easily recognize your maneuver at the next junction. If the next turn is at a distance, it will zoom out and lower the view angle to be flat so you can see the road in front of you. The map also displays data; such as the posted speed limit, your current speed, current time, distance to your destination, time left before you reach your destination, and your arrival time.
- 2D/3D Map Mode: The Jensen VM9725BT allows you to view its on-screen map in a 2D (two-dimensional) or 3D (three-dimensional) view. Similar to paper road maps, the 2D mode, shows you streets, roads, and elevation by color. In 3D mode, you can see the altitude and elevations differences. You can distinguish between valleys, mountains, and elevated roads. In selected cities 3D landmarks and 3D buildings are also displayed.
- Color Mode: The navigation map screen uses different color themes (Day/Night) during the day and during the night for both the map and the menu screen. Daytime colors are similar to paper road maps, and the menus are bright. The nigh color themes use dark colors for large objects to keep the average brightness of the screen low. You can also set the navigation unit to switch between daytime and night color modes automatically based on the current time and GPS position.
Lane Information & Signposts: The Jensen VM9725BT's navigation map offers helpful lane information & signpost guidance.
- Lane Information: When navigation on multilane roads, it is important to take the appropriate lane in order to follow the recommended route. If lane information is available in the map data, the map screen will display the lanes and their directions using small arrows at the bottom of the map. High lighted arrows represent the lanes you need to take.
- Signposts: Where additional information is available, signposts substitute arrows. Signposts are displayed at the top of the map. The color and style of the signposts are similar to the real ones you can see above the road or by the roadside, They show the available destinations and the number of the road the lane leads to.
- Junction View: If you are approaching a freeway exit or a complex intersection and the needed information exists, the map is replaced with a 3D view of the junction. The lanes you need to take are displayed with arrows. Signposts can also be present, if information is available.
- Tunnel View: When entering a tunnel, the map is replaced with a generic tunnel image so that surface roads and buildings cannot distract you.
Audible Alerts: The Jensen VM9725BT offers various audible alerts and functions to help you get to your destination safely.
- Voice Guidance (Text-to-Speech): In addition to graphic directions, the VM9725BT provides voice guidance and turn-by-turn directions. You can select from English, French, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese audible languages. The volume of the voice prompts can be increased with increases in speed to overcome road noise. Voice guidance can be turned off if you prefer.
- Safety Alert: This function can warn you when you approach road safety cameras, school zones, or railroad crossings (if available). You can also add your own alert points. Beeps or the spoken type of alert will be heard when you are approaching of these points.
- Speed Limit Warning: Some maps may contain information about the speed limits of certain road segments. The VM9725BT provides an audible warning if you exceed the recommended speed limit.
Note: While navigating, other sources may be selected and listened to; such as AM/FM Tuner, CD, USB, iPod, & Bluetooth. The unit will mute the audio of the other source during navigation voice-prompts.
Where Am I?: This screen contains information about the current position (or approximately the last known position if GPS reception is not available) and a button to search for POIs nearby.
Find Menu: The Find Menu gives you many different ways to choose your destination or insert a waypoint in your current route. An on-screen keyboard appears to allow you to enter your destination from one of the following categories:
|Find on Map||Search for a destination by scrolling the map display.|
