About the Jensen VX4025

Ken Nail

Add some flash

When I look at the bland dashboards in many cars, one of the first things that springs to my mind is how much nicer they'd look if that dull plastic was replaced with something that had a little more appeal — something like a DVD receiver with a touchscreen control paneI, naturally. Even if you're working with a limited budget, Jensen's put that vision in reach with their VX4025 DVD receiver. Though the price tag isn't too daunting, the VX4025 offers up some pretty cool features, with connections and capabilities that'll let you enjoy both great looks and great functionality.

Bluetooth® frees the hands

Bluetooth lets you take and make calls while keeping your hands on the wheel when talking — an awesome safety feature when you're navigating through your daily commute. An outboard microphone ensures excellent call quality, even in noisy vehicles. And with Bluetooth, you'll stream music from your smartphone without plugs, cables, or clutter, so you can enjoy your music library, podcasts, or your favorite music apps tangle-free.

Multimedia on demand

Of course the VX4025 will play nearly any kind of disc, store-bought or home-burned. But for more options, the front USB input lets you pull songs from your thumb drive, Android™ phone, iPod®, or iPhone®. If you're a Pandora® fan, you can tap into your favorite playlists while you're on the road with your iPhone (via USB) or Android (with Bluetooth). Front and rear A/V inputs, along with a micro-SD slot for music and images, offer even more options.

With an optional SiriusXM tuner you'll enjoy over 100 channels of music, news, talk, and sports. A dedicated input on the rear panel that accepts an optional rear-view camera, so you can back out of your parking space or driveway with confidence.

    D/A Converter: The Jensen VX4025 is equipped with a high-performance 24-bit, 192kHz digital-to-analog converter with a multi-bit Sigma-Delta modulator.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the VX4025 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the VX4025 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 13 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 40 watts x 4 channels (160 watts total)

4V/5Ch Preamp Outputs w/ Subwoofer Control: The Jensen VX4025 is equipped with five 4.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/mono-Sub). The front and rear channels are fading, while the subwoofer output is non-fading with an adjustable low-pass crossover filter (Off/80/120/160Hz) and separate level control (+/-12).

    • EQ: The VX4025's built-in equalizer offers 8 preset sound modes (Optimal, Classic, Rock, Jazz, Techno, Pop, Flat, or User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 10-band EQ (31.25, 62.5, 125, 250, 500, 1k, 2k, 4k, 8k, 16k Hz) from -10 to +10 dB.
    • Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at lower volume. Selectable loudness center frequencies include 400Hz, 800Hz, and 2.4kHz.
    • Source Level: You can increase the relative volume (+/-6dB) of the unit's source inputs to match the external source's output level. The Source Level can be used for the VX4025's Radio, Disc, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, or AV input.

Programmable Turn-on Volume: You can program the VX4025 to turn on with the volume at a preset level, instead of the same level as when the head unit was turned off last. This prevents possible speaker damage or a startling surprise when the receiver first turns on at a high volume level.

Beep Tones: An audible beep tone confirms each function selection. The beep tone can be disabled/enabled in the Setup Menu.

    AV Connections

Dual AV Inputs: The Jensen VX4025 is equipped with AV input terminals on the front and rear of the unit to enable enjoyment of content from an external connected source. The rear composite video/stereo RCA inputs are ideal for permanent installations, while the front AV mini-jack (3.5mm) input will come in handy for quick connection of a portable audio/visual source.

Video Out: A single RCA composite video-output jack allows you to an add external monitor such as rear headrest monitor (sold separately). The video output will display whatever video signal that is being displayed on the head unit's touchscreen monitor.

Rear View Camera Input: The Camera Input consists of a Composite video RCA jack for connecting an optional rear view camera (sold separately) in order to display the area behind your vehicle on the head unit's touchscreen (selectable Mirror or Normal image). I Don't think so. When i don't want to listen to the radio i choose to mute it. So i keep the radio on while my vehicle is on. I'm very happy with this product. It has a few quirks but they all do. For the money it's a bargain.

Yes, it is one of the reasons why I got it. You need to be sure that every song has that information in the id3 tag. One thing that I noticed is that some album covers are half garbled, where the bottom half of the picture looks messed up. Hope this helps.

I play music from the SD card. If song, artist, and album are included in the metadata for the music file, they will display.

I want to connect a Raspberry PI to the front A/V jack to use it as a monitor to possibly display OBD-II data among other endless possibilities. The Raspberry PI has a 4 pole 3.5mm Stereo output and Composite video port. Will the A/V jack on this head unit accept this or will I have to run an adapter cable to the RCA A/V input jacks in the back of the head unit?
    chris  Aug 12, 2016
    1 answer
    A
This receiver's front panel 3.5mm input does take in stereo audio and composite video signals. You will need to get cabling to join the 3.5mm stereo output and composite video port to one 3.5mm A/V connection and then your Raspberry PI should display on the Jensen receiver's screen. If you need help getting the cables together, feel free to call 1-800-324-9695 to speak with an advisor. HTH! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Thanks for your question. Yes it is compatible. Here is the information from the product page "Details" tab: Rear View Camera Input: The Camera Input consists of a Composite video RCA jack for connecting an optional rear view camera (sold separately) in order to display the area behind your vehicle on the head unit's touchscreen (selectable Mirror or Normal image). When an optional rearview camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (green/white wire of harness must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.75 seconds.

Not for Spotify. The unit only has Pandora installed, so if you play any music content from Pandora, that will show up on the display (I don't know if it shows the album cover, I forget).

It is quite versatile, with lots of options when you install it to work with or without additional amps. If you use the subwoofer out, you will need an amp for that. I bought this for a gift, so I didn't install it myself. My son is using it in an '04 Expedition with only a subwoofer amp.

When using the microSD card, will the audio resume from the same spot when the vehicle it started up again? (This would be really useful if audio-books are used). Is there a microSD user interface review available, beyond what is in the manual?

Hi there. Glad you asked that. I use the MicroSD and the USB card primarily for music, but they both operate the same. I have played audio books in the past, and both music/audio books in MP3 resume in the spot that they left off. It's kind of funny, though - the audio books that I have listened to (usually an 8hr average book) will resume a few minutes earlier. It's good if you are resuming the track if you want to be reminded on what you were listening to, but if you do a lot of stop and go (like I did; I had a lot of stops and had to turn my engine off), this got quite annoying. Nevertheless, the mp3 track resumed where it left off (sort of). I still do definitely recommend this unit. By the way, there is an update to the software, which I have done. If there is any new changes, I will definitely update my review.

I recently bought this radio for my son's truck for Christmas... We opted to keep all the steering wheel controls and functions so we used the wiring harness kit that allows you to make the connections needed. Every wire matched color for color, soldered each and taped, plugged in and tested, from beginning to end it took 2 hours to install.

Varies... depends on your vehicle, how long it takes to remove and replace your vehicle specific fascia to remove old head unit, also factor it how long it takes to crimp together wiring harness for easy connections to vehicle oem connections. On vehicle I added this to.. all in with some troubleshooting of crimped connections not being completely crimped (my error)... took about 2.5 hours... but I was crimping while watching a movie so who knows how much moving watching I was doing versus actually working... so there may be 15 or mins that don't need to be

The longest prep time was for the wiring harness connection to go from OEM to the VX2015. I like to solder connections and then use heat shrink tubing and it was a fun project so I took my time. I would say about 1 and 1/2 hours to prep the harness (I actually just worked on it on and off for a couple of days), but if you use the crimp connectors about 20 to 30 minutes. The actual radio install then only took about 30-40 minutes. I did read and re-read the instructions three to four times just to make sure I understood them. It helped to watch the install videos that are on line.

I'm sure it will take 3.0 drives, but they will not operate at USB 3.0. Most likely USB 2.0. You will not notice this difference anyways, as you are only playing audio/video files.

The Jensen VX4025's front-panel USB (type-A) port enables connection and control of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device and supports playback of MP3/WMA audio files recorded in FAT16 or FAT32, JPEG still image and MPEG/AVI/Xvid video playback. USB 3.0 was designed for backward compatibility with USB 2.0 (or earlier) Type-A plugs and receptacles, so that shouldn't be any concern for you.

Does this unit have front auxiliary 3.5mm jack input?
    jermain  Oct 04, 2015

Yes it does. The good thing about this brand is the inputs for a 3.5mm jack and a USB input are NOT hanging from a wire in the back of a set, but rather upfront behind a door on the lower right hand front side of the unit. If you would visit one of your local audio stores, they should have this model on their display panel. There you can see how to access the hidden ports.

There are two types of aftermarket SWC packages available that I am aware of: PAC and Metra. PAC is what Jensen recommends for this model in their installation manual.
