Find your way without losing your wallet

Jensen's VX7020 navigation receiver delivers real value, sporting an impressive 6.2" LCD screen that gives you easy command over your audio and video sources. You can also incorporate your phone with hands-free calling and streaming audio capabilities. Add the cost of the stress you'll save by not having to worry about getting lost, and this Jensen becomes a worthy investment.

Take it to the streets

The VX7020 boasts maps of the entire U.S., Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands, plus millions of points of interest for when it's time to take a break. Lane guidance will keep you on the right path for your next maneuver, and you'll be able to see realistic depictions of many complex intersections that make them easier to navigate.

The VX7020's powered by iGO primo navigation software, which has become an industry standard over the past few years because it's fast, accurate, and easy to use. This stereo's compatible with Naviextras, which allows you to download maps for other countries, including points of interest, through their website.

Bluetooth® calling and music streaming

This Jensen offers Bluetooth connectivity, so you'll be able to make and take calls using your compatible phone through the stereo. Built-in A2DP technology allows you to stream music from your smartphone through this receiver, and gives you control over the music on your Android™ phone or iPhone®.

If you've got Pandora Internet radio on your iPhone®, you can control it through the VX7020's interface when connected.

Sonic solutions

This receiver will play all your CDs and DVDs, including discs loaded with music files, while front and rear A/V inputs offer connections for more audio/video sources. Go ahead and load up your iPod® or thumb drive with tunes for your travels — the receiver's front USB port provides convenient access.

When you're parked, you can enjoy movies from DVDs or other video sources on the receiver's display, and you can add Jensen's optional jLinkUSB cable to view iPod video content. Jensen includes a wireless remote control, allowing your passengers to pick the playlist.

Expand your system

Why struggle with stations fading away as you travel? You can hook up a satellite radio tuner (not included) to this receiver and access the wide variety of entertainment, sports, news, and commercial-free music satellite radio provides — your favorite stations are always there and, even better, you can view the channel art on the big screen. You can also connect a rear-view camera, so you can see more of what's behind your vehicle when getting in and out of tight spots. If you're looking to add subs and amps, you can take advantage of front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

The Jensen VX7020 offers built-in steering wheel remote compatibility for vehicles with non-CAN bus steering wheel control interfaces, but you will have to hard-wire the steering-wheel control wires of the stereo's harness to your vehicle's wiring. You can configure the steering wheel remote commands from the VX7020's touchscreen. For most cars with CAN bus steering wheel control interfaces, you'll need an adapter to retain steering wheel controls. Check “Details” for more information, and the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters. If you're not sure if you need an adapter, call, chat, or email an Advisor for help determining what you'll need for your vehicle.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Touchscreen & Remote Control

6.2" Touchscreen Display: The Jensen VX7020 features a fixed 6.2" widescreen touchscreen LCD monitor. The screen has a resolution of 800 x RGB (3) x 480 with 1,152,000 total pixels. This unit has touchscreen controls with interactive video graphics, making menu navigation easy. The Jensen VX7020 offers a variety of display adjustments to customize the display.

    • UI Colors: You can adjust the colors of the on-screen menu's touchscreen buttons from Green, Red, Amber, Blue, or Purple.
    • Background Skins: You can choose from five different background skins - Engine Start, Blue Haze, Green Cubes, Red Swirl or Tribal.
    • Brightness: The unit's LCD backlight can be adjusted to Night, Dark, Normal, or Bright.
    • Picture Adjustment: When watching a video, you can adjust the touchscreen display's brightness, contrast, saturation, and hue (from 1-20).
Note: You can select English, French, or Spanish for the unit's on-screen menu display.

Start-Up Time: The Jensen VX7020 will turn on to the last source selected. The unit has start-up time of approximately 12.95 seconds from OFF to the last Source selected.

Clock & Date Display: The navigation receiver offers a 12- or 24-hour clock display which is visible from any source or menu screen. The clock & date are both visible on the main menu screen only.

Hard-Key Controls: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons and a rotary-dial along the left edge of the screen. You can adjust the head unit's button illumination from the following preset colors - Blue, Purple, Sky Blue, Aqua Blue, Yellow, Green, Red, White or Demo (scans through all preset colors). You can also select a custom "Custom" color that is adjusted between Red, Green, and Blue (values range: 0-255).

Parking Brake Detection: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the head unit's pink wire must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged.

Remote Control: The Jensen head unit comes with an IR remote and supports many vehicle's steering wheel controls (adapter required).

    • IR Remote Control: The head unit comes supplied with a 44-button IR remote control which provides wireless operation of the Jensen navigation receiver; including Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming functions.
    • Optional Steering Wheel Control Interface: The unit features a SWC (steering wheel control) input and is compatible with Steering Wheel Control Adapters from PAC (sold separately), so you can keep your vehicle's factory steering wheel radio controls.

2-DIN Chassis: The Jensen VX7020 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is no mounting-sleeve for Euro-mount vehicles.

    Onboard Navigation

iGO Primo & TomTom Navigation: The Jensen VX7020 contains map coverage of the United States (all 50 states) and Puerto Rico with over 11,000,000 points-of-interests from TomTom; all stored on a pre-installed 4GB SDHC memory card (the SDHC map card must remained installed in order for navigation system to function). The map database was created using high-resolution aerial and land based data collection. The VX7020 employs iGO primo navigation software for turn-by-turn visual and voice assistance to your selected destination. The software quickly calculates step-by-step directions to any destination available on the included on-screen navigation map.

Note: Car navigation maps are frequently updated. While the database was judged to be as accurate as possible at the time of its release, a map database can never be 100% accurate. Road information that is maintained in the map databases, such as turn restrictions or road names may change over time.

Map Updates: iGO offers periodic updates for data such as roads, new addresses, and other navigational information that will keep the Jensen navigation system up to date and provide the best possible experience. For updates and add-on options, please visit www.naviextras.com (requires Windows XP or newer). A free program called "Toolbox" can be downloaded from this website so you can create a copy of your map as a backup, as well as assist in easily checking for updates and optional features that are available.

Note: You have 30 days from purchase to download the latest available map free of charge.

GPS Receiver & Antenna: The Jensen VX7020 features a built-in SiRFprima GPS receiver and includes an external GPS antenna which determines vehicle speed and heading changes, along with longitude and latitude information, to accurately determine vehicle heading and position on the system's digital map. The GPS antenna can be mounted inside or outside of the vehicle. The GPS antenna measures 1.5625" (w) x 0.625" (h) x 1.9375" (d); with a 10' cable.

Note: The navigation receiver took approximately 12.07 seconds to calculate directions from Virginia to California. It only took 8.25 seconds to calculate directions from Virginia to Maryland. These tests were done inside the Crutchfield Lab of the Crutchfield Head Quarters. Results will vary based on length of calculated route and your surrounding area.

On-Screen Map: The unit's on-screen map shows your vehicle's current position (a blue arrow by default), the recommended route (an orange line), the surrounding map area, and your destination as a checkered flag. The on-screen map shows streets, roads, and highways in a way that is similar to how a paper road map show them. A road's width and colors corresponds to their importance, so you can easily tell a freeway from a small street. When navigating a route, the top section of the map screen shows information about your next route maneuver and the next street or the next city/town. When approaching a turn, the map screen will zoom in and raise the view angle to let you easily recognize your maneuver at the next junction. If the next turn is at a distance, it will zoom out and lower the view angle to be flat so you can see the road in front of you. The map also displays data; such as the posted speed limit, your current speed, current time, distance to your destination, time left before you reach your destination, and your arrival time.

    • 2D Map Mode: The Jensen VX7020 allows you to view its on-screen map in a 2D (two-dimensional) view only. Similar to paper road maps, the 2D mode, shows you streets, roads, and elevation by color.
    • Color Mode: The navigation map screen uses different color themes (Day/Night) during the day and during the night for both the map and the menu screen. Daytime colors are similar to paper road maps, and the menus are bright. The nigh color themes use dark colors for large objects to keep the average brightness of the screen low. You can also set the navigation unit to switch between daytime and night color modes automatically based on the current time and GPS position.
Note: You can continue to listen to a selected source while viewing the on-screen navigation map.

Lane Information & Signposts: The Jensen VX7020's navigation map offers helpful lane information and signpost guidance, along with junction view.

    • Lane Information: When navigation on multilane roads, it is important to take the appropriate lane in order to follow the recommended route. If lane information is available in the map data, the map screen will display the lanes and their directions using small arrows at the bottom of the map. High lighted arrows represent the lanes you need to take.
    • Signposts: Where additional information is available, signposts substitute arrows. Signposts are displayed at the top of the map. The color and style of the signposts are similar to the real ones you can see above the road or by the roadside, They show the available destinations and the number of the road the lane leads to.
    • Junction View: If you are approaching a freeway exit or a complex intersection and the needed information exists, the map is replaced with a 3D view of the junction. The lanes you need to take are displayed with arrows. Signposts can also be present, if information is available.

Audible Alerts: The Jensen VX7020 offers various audible alerts and functions to help you get to your destination safely.

    • Voice Guidance: In addition to graphic directions, the VX7020 provides voice guidance with turn-by-turn instructions (*street names are not announced; iGO is no longer supporting the text-to-speech software update on this receiver). You can select from English, French, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese audible languages. The volume of the voice prompts can be increased with increases in speed to overcome road noise. Voice guidance can be turned off if you prefer.
    • Safety Alert: This function can warn you when you approach road safety cameras, school zones, or railroad crossings (if available). You can also add your own alert points. Beeps or the spoken type of alert will be heard when you are approaching of these points.
    • Speed Limit Warning: Some maps may contain information about the speed limits of certain road segments. The VX7020 provides an audible warning if you exceed the recommended speed limit.
Note: While navigating, other sources may be selected and listened to; such as AM/FM Tuner, CD, USB, iPod, & Bluetooth. The unit will mute the audio of the other source during navigation voice-prompts.

Where Am I?: This screen contains information about the current position (or approximately the last known position if GPS reception is not available) and a button to search for Car Repair, Health Agencies, Police, and Gas Stations around your area.

Find Destination: From the "Find" menu, you can select your destination by entering an address or selecting a place of interest (11,000,000 POIs), a location on the map or one of your Favorite destinations. iGO primo offers you several ways of choosing your destination:

    Destination Search Description
Browse Map Select a point on the map for your destination by touching the screen.
Address Enter a full address or a part of an address; for example a street name without ahouse number or the names of two intersecting streets. Or enter ZIP code only; this way you do not need to select the name of the city and the search for street names might be faster as well.
POIs Search over 11 million POIs (points-of interest) by name, near you current location, along route, near your destination, or around a city.
Favorites You can save your favorite addresses (like home & work) and POIs for quicker access the next time you are traveling.
History The places that you have set as destinations in the past are automatically stored for easier access. Smart History suggests these previously used locations as destinations based on your navigation habits, using parameters like the current time of day, the day of week, and the current location.
Coordinates Allows you to search your destination by longitude and latitude values.

Route Calculation: The Jensen VX7020 calculates your route based on your Vehicle Type, Route Method, and Avoidances.

    • Vehicle Type: You select what type of vehicle you are driving, so the navigation unit can determine the best route based on your vehicle type (Car, Emergency, Bus, or Taxi).
    • Route Method: You can choose which route method (Fastest, Shortest, Green, Economical, or Easy) the navigation unit should use when calculating your route.
      • Fastest: give a quick route, if you can travel at or near the speed limit on all roads. Usually the best section for fast and normal cars
      • Shortest: gives a route that has the smallest total distance of all possible routes. It can be practical for slow vehicles
      • Green: gives a quick, but full efficient route based on the fuel consumption data you provide
      • Easy: results in a route with fewer turns and no difficult maneuvers
    • Avoidances: You can tell the navigation unit to avoid certain types of roads along your calculated route, such as - Highways, Tolls, Carpool/HOV, Unpaved Roads, and/or Ferries.

Detours & Alternatives: You can select "Route Alternative" to see the turn-list and map screen of four routes (Fastest/Shortest/Economical/Easy) with the selected route planning parameters, giving you the option to select which route to take. You can also choose to Detour around the road ahead, avoid a specific road, or around a section of the route.

Router Planner: The Route Planner feature lets you built your route using the list of destinations you have chosen. You can modify the list as you like (adding or removing a destination (waypoint), changing a final destination, or setting a new starting position.

Itinerary w/ Route Simulation: The Itinerary page displays turn-by-turn instructions for your entire route and the distance between turns. You can preview all the route information and simulate travel along a projected route.

Automatic Route Recalculation: The unit will automatically recalculate your route if you stray from the navigation unit's previously calculated route.

Trip Logs: Trip logs contain useful information about your trip. Trip logs can be saved manually when you reach your destination or automatically along your route. Trip log data includes; Start/End Time, Avg./Max. Speed, Total/Driving/Stopped Time, Total Distance, and Min./Max. Altitude.

Quick Menu: The Quick menu is a selection of controls and functions that are frequently needed during navigation; it can be opened directly from the Map screen. The content of the Quick Menu is fully customizable.

Off-Road Navigation: The difference between the on-road and off-road modes is the navigation itself. When you are on the Map screen with an off-road route, your position and heading is not aligned with the nearest road and there is no turn by turn navigation; just a recommended direction. You see a straight line drawn between your current position and the next destination to reach. The Turn Preview field in the top left corner shows an arrow with your bearing and the distance of the next destination.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Jensen VX7020 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Before using the unit's Bluetooth functions, you must pair your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or audio device to the VX7020. Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some mobile devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the VX7020.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ external mic): The VX7020 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. You can answer an incoming call from the head unit's touchscreen and carry on a phone conversation hands-free. The included external microphone carries on your side of the conversation while your car's speakers are used to hear the other person. You can make a call by entering the phone number, selecting a contact from your Phonebook list, or using the Call History Log of received/dialed/missed calls.

    • Answering A Call: During an incoming call, the caller's phone number will be seen on the unit's LCD and a ring-tone will be heard through your car stereo speakers. You can then manually answer the incoming call from the head unit's front-panel controls. You can also set the unit to automatically answer an incoming call within 5 seconds.
    • Making A Call: You can make a call using the Jensen in-dash head unit's front-panel controls. Outgoing calls can be made be entering telephone numbers (0-9, *, #) directly via the head unit's touchscreen. You can also search for contact names in your mobile phone's phonebook from the Jensen VX7020 and then make your call. In addition, you can make a call by searching your mobile phone's call history (Received/Dialed/Missed).

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Jensen VX7020 allows you to play back stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or audio player. You can control basic music playback functions (Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from the VX7020. Advanced music navigation will still need to be done through your Bluetooth mobile device. This unit does not display song/artist information from connected Bluetooth audio devices. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    Disc & USB Playback

Disc Compatibility: The Jensen VX7020 has a front-loading disc-slot to make loading your disc easier. The VX7020 supports playback of DVD Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-Audio, and CD-R/RW discs. The unit supports MPEG/AVI/Xvid video & JPEG photo files recorded on to CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW discs. It also supports playback of MP3/WMA music files loaded onto a CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, or DVD+R/RW disc.

Front-Panel USB Port: The Jensen VX7020 features a front-panel USB (type-A) port for connection and control of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only), portable digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. The USB port enables playback of MP3/WMA audio files recorded in FAT16 or FAT32 on a connected USB mass storage class device. The head unit also supports JPEG still image and MPEG/AVI/Xvid video playback via USB. USB portable audio devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the navigation receiver's USB port (1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

File Compatibility: The Jensen VX7020 supports the following types of audio, video, and photo files recorded onto a disc, or loaded onto a USB mass storage class device.

Media Type Disc (CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW) USB (msc)

Off Eject: You can eject a disc with the unit powered off. You cannot insert a disc with the head unit powered off.

    iPod/iPhone Integration

iPod/iPhone Connectivity: The Jensen VX7020 navigation receiver supports connection to either Dock-connector or Lightning-connector Apple iPods and iPhones.

    • 30-Pin Dock Connector iPod/iPhone: The optional jLink-USB cable (110JLINUSB, sold separately) allows you to connect your iPod or Phone (w/ dock connector) to the VX7020 through the head unit's front-panel USB port and 3.5mm AV input. This type of connection supports playback of audio/video content stored on your Apple device, as well as music and movies streamed to your iPhone from select apps. If you only require iPod/iPhone audio playback, you can simply connect your iPod/iPhone to the VX7020's front-panel USB input via the USB/Dock connector cable that came with your iPod/iPhone.
    • Lightning-Connector iPod/iPhone: If you have an iPod/iPhone with the new Lightning-connector; use the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit's front-panel USB input. These Apple devices only support audio playback of stored music and streamed music apps on your iPod/iPhone device. These Apple devices do not support video output.
Note: Connecting your iPod/iPhone directly to the head unit via USB (using the cable that came with your device), bypasses the Apple device's DAC and utilizes the 24-bit DAC in the VX7020 for maximized sound quality. Using the optional jLink-USB cable from Jensen does not bypass the iPod/iPhone DAC, so you are limited to the DAC in your Apple device.

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song or artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.
Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

SiriusXM Ready: The Jensen VX7020 comes ready for SiriusXM programming. Thanks to its proprietary SiriusXM Connect port, you can add the optional SXV300V1 SiriusXM Connect tuner and receive more than 150 channels of exclusive programming directly from SiriusXM, via the "SiriusXM All Access" package (subscription required). • Category Search searches for channels in a certain category
    • Direct Channel input allows you to directly enter a station number using the remote control
    • Information such as Channel Name w/ Channel Art, Artist Name, and Song Title can be viewed on the head unit's display
    • Up to 18 SiriusXM Satellite Radio station presets
    • Channels containing unsuitable content for children can be blocked
Note: A separate SiriusXM Satellite Radio subscription is required (operates on the XM Network). However, you can easily add this SiriusXM tuner to an existing Sirius or XM account for a Multi-Radio Discount Plan.
    Audio Section

    D/A Converter: The Jensen VX7020 is equipped with a high-performance 24-bit, 192kHz digital-to-analog converter with a multi-bit Sigma-Delta modulator.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the VX7020 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the VX7020 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 13 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 40 watts x 4 channels (160 watts total)

6V/5Ch Preamp Outputs w/ Subwoofer Control: The Jensen VX7020 is equipped with five 6.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/mono-Sub). The front and rear channels are fading, while the subwoofer output is non-fading with an adjustable low-pass crossover filter (Off/80/120/160Hz) and separate level control (+/-12).

EQ: The VX7020's built-in equalizer offers 8 preset sound modes (Optimal, Classic, Rock, Jazz, Techno, Pop, Flat, or User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 10-band EQ (31.5Hz, 62Hz, 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, 4kHz, 8kHz, and 16kHz) from 0-20.

Audio Enhancements: The Jensen navigation receiver offers a variety of audio settings to enhance your listening experience in your vehicle.

    • Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at lower volume.
    • Source Level: You can increase the relative volume (+/-6) of the unit's source inputs to match the external source's output level. The Source Level can be used for the VX7020's Radio, Disc, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, Navigation, or AV input.

Programmable Turn-on Volume: You can program the VX7020 to turn on with the volume at a preset level, instead of the same level as when the head unit was turned off last. This prevents possible speaker damage or a startling surprise when the receiver first turns on at a high volume level.

Beep Tones: An audible beep tone confirms each function selection. The beep tone can be disabled/enabled in the Setup Menu.

    A/V Connection

Dual AV Inputs: The Jensen VX7020 is equipped with AV input terminals on the front and rear of the unit to enable enjoyment of content from an external connected source. The rear composite video/stereo RCA inputs are ideal for permanent installations, while the front AV mini-jack (3.5mm) input will come in handy for quick connection of a portable audio/visual source.

Video Out: A single RCA composite video-output jack allows you to an add external monitor such as rear headrest monitor (sold separately). The video output will display whatever video signal that is being displayed on the head unit's touchscreen monitor.

Rear View Camera Input: The Camera Input consists of a Composite video RCA jack for connecting an optional rear view camera (sold separately) in order to display the area behind your vehicle on the head unit's touchscreen. When an optional rearview camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (green/white wire of harness must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.75 seconds. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

    Q
What is the advantage of the more expensive Jensen VX7022? The only difference besides cost seems to be the available HMDI port in the back. And I don't know yet if that would help me mirror my Samsung Galaxy S6.

Do you have volume controls on the steering wheel? If so, you must have the correct adapter to connect the steering wheel controls to the Jensen system. Or you can just disable the steering wheel controls by not connecting them. I connected my system in without the adapter and the radio never worked correctly.

the user manual says you have to have a USB to 3.5mm audio, to connect iPhone to play music? And some micro USB adapter? What the heck is that? Won't the Lightning connector do the trick?

All I can suggest is to re-read page 54 of the Vx7020 manual. Also look at page 49.... You must link your device to either the standard USB or the 3.5mm (stereo line-in) from your line output like your headphone connection.....

Does this unit have an output that will raise and lower the radio antenna automatically like the radio in my 1998 Toyota Tacoma?
    skuddle  Mar 25, 2016

Yes. It is the remote feed. When the radio is turned on a voltage is presented to this lead that can be attached to a power antenna and/or amplifier. When this voltage is detected by the power antenna and/or amplifier it will turn on.
    walter c  Mar 27, 2016

There is a blue wire for the Power Antenna ( 500mA max, current limited protection.) I believe that it can be use to activate a power amplifier as well. There is no detail information..on how to wire the unit...just a basic wiring diagram. I did not use this wire.

Yes it does, but the screen quality is pretty poor. This radio, while cheap, is very poor and I have not been happy with it. Everything is slow and the Nav system is awful. If I had it to do again I would spend the money and get a better unit.

Yes it does. You have to run a wire to the reverse. I found it easier 2 splice into the backup light. So when you put it into reverse the backup light comes on and charges the backup camera. Works really well. Good luck.

Yes, The rear view camera can be activated from the head if you do not connect so it activates when you select reverse. You can manually select it from the screen. I wanted the same thing and just left it unconnected.

Kevin, The camera can only activated when in reverse. I tow a trailer with my truck and wanted to turn the camera on when driving. I installed a separate switch to activate the camera 12volts to the reverse lights. The only thing I do not like is that you have to select the camera mode or the camera will not come on at all.

No it uses Naviextras maps. It works fast but the display has a lot of glare and can be sometimes hard to see. The sound quality is also on par for a 350 dollar radio. If you are looking for navigation as the main feature the unit is great but if you are wanting great audio it is not so good.

No, the Nav system is terrible. It doesn' say street names and it only tells you to turn as you pass the street. Save yourself a lot of headaches and buy a better (more expensive) unit.

I purchased this and installed it over a month ago in 2005 Toyota 4runner, everything worked for a couple of weeks. Now only one speaker will work at a time. One will work and the other just has a static hissing sound. Initially i thought the RCA cable was loose, so i took everything out and connected and taped the RCA cables. It worked for a day and now, same issues. I know it's not my speakers because it started from the left speakers and now it's happening in the right speakers and it keeps going back and forth. Not sure if i understand your question exactly, but this unit has video and reverse triggering inputs for the backup camera function. Yes the Jensen VX7020 has both GPS and Backup Camera capability. The unit comes with a GPS antenna, as part of the package, but does not come with a backup camera. The camera would need to be provided separately via aftermarket, or by using your car's OEM camera.

The Unit does have a touch screen, although the icons are not typical of what an android based system as some car stereos have. This unit has a windows based OS and comes with a standard set of pre-canned applications/icons for the different inputs, and new "applications" cannot be added. However you can play most audio from your android or apple based device through the Bluetooth interface. The stereo has Pandora built into it, and connects through your phone via Bluetooth.

Whenever I turn my truck off and then back on the radio station has changed. The memory isn't working. I checked the 12v yellow wire for constant voltage and it does. Am I missing something?

TurboMike, My unit does the exact same thing. I shut the power off on my truck, and when I turn the truck back on the station I had set changes. It is annoying without a doubt. But it is a small con to all the pros of this unit. I suspect this is more of a firmware issue (software) more so than a power issue. If you carefully watch the unit, when turning off the vehicle, there is a slight delay of the unit powering down (some power possibly stored in the capacitors (electronics) of the unit.) right before the unit blanks out is when the station changes, so this isnt a constant power (yellow wire) issue. its internal to the stereo itself. perhaps a slight power spike causing the preset station to jump at the moment it goes offline. I personally haven't been annoyed enough with the issue to try and get a warranty repair, because I thought it was isolated to my unit, but now that you and possibly others are seeing the same thing maybe Jensen will provide a fix to the issue. FH

Start by making sure it is connected to a constant power source, with your meter or test light connected to the source cycle the ignition switch to make sure the power stays on when the engine is started as well as when the switch is turned off. If there is a momentary loss of power there will also be a memory loss. You can also connect it directly to the battery with a short wire and see it it still loses memory.

I have this vx7020 navigation installed in my Tacoma '07 on November 2014. It performs very well since the installation until this month, march 2015. Every time I turn it on it appears on the screen " fatal error occurred in main thread. Address : 0x0062ed30. Exception:0xc0000005 ". And I can't open the navigation on the menu. What does it mean? How do I fix it?

Does the navigation on this radio have an app that detects speed and red light cameras? If not, which radio does?
    james  Mar 13, 2015
    3 answers
    A
This unit does not have "Apps" per se like some of the android based OS stereos, so therefore it does not have any sort of active mechanism to detect where there are red light cameras. The map data is on a micro SD memory card that can be updated through the Naviextras software. you get a free update upon initial purchase, and can get future updates through the website for an additional cost through Naviextras. the GPS does have speed monitoring notifications through the GPS software that can be toggled on or off. (I leave that feature off, as it can get really annoying as it will break into your music or media as you drive and go over the speed limit.) Hope that helps.

It depends what you mean by navigation receiver. If you mean the receiver that you look at it's screen to see where you are going, it goes in the dash. If you mean the antenna, it needs to be able to "see" the sky so it can receive the satellite signal, therefore it needs to be on the roof, the trunk, the fender, etc. I normally run the wiring through the front fender cowling and tuck the wire into the windshield rubber molding and place the magnetic GPS antenna in the center of the roofline just against the top of the windshield.
    pete  Mar 09, 2015

Mount it under middle of dash (Center of square dash tray) There's a metal post, magnet on pick-up will stay secure.

I am not a navigation equipment expert, but I have always been under the impression that it has to be visible to the sky. I installed mine in the center at the base of the windshield on the dash, ran the wire across the driver's side, down the under the dash back to the plug. Once I had it loosely ran, I used a hard plastic tool and gently pushed the wire down between the windshield and dash were it couldn't be seen, the tightened everything up and organized it under the dash. Hope it helps...

I glued mine to the windshield behind the rear view mirror. I found it picks up the satellite signal best at that location. Mine got poor reception when I tried it hidden in the dash
    daniel  Mar 06, 2015

It needs to be in view of the sky for best results. I would recommend on the dash.
    emmaline  Mar 06, 2015

For the best reception it should be mounted on the dash somewhere.
    reggie  Mar 06, 2015

The little black box for GPS reception, correct? My very car knowledgable friend that helped install the system had us install it on the roof, either drivers side or passenger's, whichever is easier to wire. He hid the wiring under the rain trench rubber, between the windshield and the side panel, through to the interior. However, I suppose wherever it can get GPS reception should work, clear view of the sky, so dash should be fine (for instance my phone GPS works fine that way).
    raymond  Mar 06, 2015

You can leave it hidden in the dash, that is what i did and it works great

    felix  Mar 06, 2015

I am sure that it depends on the car. My car had navigation from the factory, so I placed the GPS antenna there. If there is not too much shielding, you may get away with having it hidden. In my case, I knew that location was meant to have a GPS antenna. good luck!

Aaron...Not that I know of. However if you are using the navigation mode while driving at night it will automatically go into 'night time mode' which dims the screen and takes all the bright colors out so it doesn't bother you when driving. It will revert back to 'day time mode' in full color and brightness as soon as the sunrise comes. You can also listen to the radio while in navigation mode, so you're not looking at the radio screen (which has 5 different color backgrounds you can choose from for day/night eye sensitivity). So you have a good choice of screen setting in both modes. Hope that helped.

Is there a way to remove the auto search button from the main radio screen? Maybe replace with something else?
    jon f.  Jan 03, 2015
    2 answers
    A
I don't think so. This auto search seems to be a common feature with these touchscreen receivers. I think I have the same concerns as you, that someone else, or myself, might inadvertently remove the preprogramed stations that I set up. There is no good solution for that other than setting the radio to one of the other bands when allowing someone else to drive. Not really a practical solution. The second deficit in this scanning scheme is that when the preset channels get filled up the scanning stops. This often leaves you with no good channels and half the dial left unscanned. I wish they would come up with a software update to revise this design omission. I mess the old days of auto receivers that had a station scan, pre-set station scan, and a seek function. The general station scan is the safest and quickest way to find a station when traveling in a unfamiliar area. Some factory radios retain this feature but the aftermarket has give up on it. That is a real shame because is by far the safest way to find a station!

The vx7020 that I have allows for setting the date and the clock time display of either 12 hour or 24 hour. The time that is displayed is transmitted with the radio signal from the radio station that the radio is receiving. I have also noticed that the time displayed on the radio is sometimes one hour different from the clock display in my vehicle. This has happened with a certain station depending on the day and time that the station is tuned in.

Dear Jon, In answer to your first question: Yes, connect the power to the camera to one of your reverse light leads. Connect the RCA plug from your camera to the "camera" RCA jack from the head unit. My head unit detected the camera signal automatically, but you may need to check the settings. I can't answer your other question. I never tried. Good Luck.

    A
I can answer the first question: to do this would require you to wire the backup sensor wire of the Jensen to something that turns *on* when you go into reverse, like the backup light (which is a white light on the rear of the car) you can attach a lead from the back of the car or follow the wire to the front and make the connection from there.
    austin  Jan 05, 2015
    A
You have to do two things for the backup camera: power the camera off of the reverse signal at the back (or front) and connect reverse to the reverse wire (I forgot which) that connects to the head. As for the m4a....I don't know...I save iTunes stuff as mp3.
    ralph  Jan 05, 2015
    A
Yes you have to power the camera from the backup light circuit then the head will switch automatically when the camera powers on

Not sure what you are looking to do with the S4, phone calls or music streaming. Both my husband's Samsung S3 phone and my Droid Razr work fine for calling and I used it without a problem streaming from my android tablet. Haven't tried anything else.

It worked great with the S4, no issues at all. The Pandora app on the radio is great and the call quality is great. I've never had anyone have issues hearing me. I've upgraded my phone and I've noticed with the Note 4 it doesn't always connect via bluetooth so I have to turn the radio off and back on.

The phone feature also works very well, very responsive in making and receiving calls. It can also load your phone book if you like...

Will the USB cover close properly to conceal an installed low profile USB flash drive like the SanDisk Cruzer Fit or Ultra Fit? Or can music be played from the MicroSD card?

No and no. The cover closes against the surface of the USB port and the MicrdSD card is the map data only, instructions do not recommend using other than the factory card (or a backup of it).

Installed this in a 2006 Tundra last weekend with backup camera and siriusxm radio. Everything works flawlessly. However one thing I do not like is if you have the navigation working and you make a bluetooth call the bluetooth screen takes over and you lose the navigation information. Is there a way to make the navigation screen be the active screen after the Bluetooth call has connected?

Hi Ron, I bought the SanDisk Cruzer Fit flash drive in the 64GB size and it works fine with this unit. I have two of these VX7020s in two cars and both of them recognize that flash drive. Another thing I tried was to use 320kbps MP3 files. The VX7020 plays them. Also, I tried putting over 10,000 songs on that flash drive in one or two folders, and the 7020 handles it. I think having that many files causes it to take a little longer to start up, but it works. I run it in Random mode and am enjoying it. One nice thing about the Cruzer Fit is that it barely sticks out of the USB port on the front of the unit. There might be smaller flash drives but I haven't seen them.

When your vehicle model was input into the database it comes back that this head unit will definitely fit your vehicle. The great part is that it come with the mounting hardware you need. I also got a back up camera and together they work great. Hands free talking, phone and Pandora sync! DVD...navigation! Couldn't beat the price or the quality!

According to Crutchfield's own online fitment tool, the unit should fit. I've also seen other double-din GPS installations online for your vehicle that seem to indicate it would fit. A good system!

I'd have to see what the Sport Trac radio looks like. Of course if it looks like the one from my 2007 F-250 it will fit. And it's a nice easy fit. The tabs they tell and show you to cut off are wrong. You will be able to see which ones you need. If the Crutchfield site says it will fit then go for it. It's a lot of bang for the buck.

Hi Christian, It should fit in any "Double Din" opening I think, You didn't ask, but I would not recommend this stereo unit after now owning it for a couple months. The stations change very slowly...especially from the steering wheel. It is also very slow switching between functions...like camera, phone, satellite, etc... Worst of all though is the navigation. It doesn't announce street names of the next turn and it is often too late in telling you where to turn. It was cheap but unfortunately I don't think you even get what you pay for. Good Luck

Yes and no. It does work with Pandora and I would assume most audio related apps. You have full control of playlist etc through the stereos display. You cannot get video from your iphone to show up on the display, such as while using navigation apps, or watching movies from your phone. The good thing is that navigation is built in to this stereo, and it works well.

Depends on what you mean by "work with Android Phone"... If you are asking if it will sync up with Bluetooth and play songs on applications like Pandora or I heart Radio, then the answer is yes. If you are asking if it will connect via USB cable and control the phone like an iPod or iPhone, then the answer is no. It will treat the android phone like a USB hard drive, and you will need to navigate to the folder where your songs are and play them through the stereo's on screen menus. Just like a USB drive. (BTW, I use a micro 64GB USB drive with my music stored on it in Lieu of an iPod as a handy way to play my music.) Overall I really like this unit, for the price and the features, it really cant be beat. good luck with your decision. FH

The first update is to make sure when you buy it you have the latest map available. Updates for fixes or changes in the software are always free, new map data generally cost around 60-70 dollars. You can also contact Jensen Tech support and they can give you a free update that adds TTS (text to speech) so it speaks the street names.
    christopher  Feb 26, 2015

Mark, That is the idea. You get the latest map when you buy it. I have purchased products only to find the map was a year old, like in my 2013 Charger. BTW Operational updates or bug fixes are free for life, only map data updates cost. You can also find a ton of free add-on's for iGo mapping if you search the web. (Red light cameras and POI).

The update was free. It is not however automatic. You will need an adapter to plug in the micro SD card from the unit into your pc or laptop. There is software that must first be downloaded. The process was simple and straight forward. There were some optional add on like enhanced POI, traffic cams and city 3d plus many additional countries or regions at an additional reasonable cost. There is also the an option to back up your card.

The unit comes with a latest map guarantee so the first update is free if done within 90 days of purchase/registration. It is done with a downloaded tool installed on a computer, nothing is automatic. I just completed my free update and it is quite easy to do. The unit uses a 4 GB micro SD card to store the mapping software and you can either connect that to your computer or I believe use a USB memory stick to do the update. The downloaded tool also allows you to back up the mapping software as a precaution. Future updates need to be purchased and can either be for a 1 time shot (around $69) or for a 1 year subscription for about $20 more. I haven't had a chance to really use the GPS part as yet so can't say a whole lot more.
    garry  Aug 25, 2014

I just installed mine, so I have only done the initial update. From what I understand, you get the first update for free (but you have to do it within the first 90-days of purchase - which I wasn't crazy about because I kinda wanted to save the free one for a later date) and you have pay for future updates. Not sure of the cost for the updates, but pretty sure it's less than the $200 you were spending. The website for the mapping program is naviextras. Hope this helps

    steve  Aug 25, 2014

The first update is free after that you must pay. I do not know the cost of the future updates. To do the update a program gets loaded on your computer and you take the provided micro SD card from the VX7020 put it in your computer and the program will update the SD card.
    rich  Aug 25, 2014

I believe you get one free update, although it is impossible to figure out how. I tried going through the process online and wasn't able to do it. I believe you get one free update within the first 90 days of starting up your new VX7020. I am very satisfied with this radio, I installed it my 2004 ram pickup. I wanted navigation and a backup camera. I do not have steering wheel controls but I believe it is set up for it, you just need the harness. A great radio for the price. The installation was easy. I soldered the wires for a trouble free installation. Hope this helps, Paul

With the Jensen VX7020 Navigation software..or IGO....Is a quick way to turn off or stop the Nav process?.......There is no Off switch or option. unless you go deep into the sub menus to find the cancel button. Very hard to remember what to do while I am driving.

Yes, while in the navigation screen press the key in the upper right corner for your quick menu. You should have cancel route there. If not you can select and change that menu. So this would allow you to stop the route with two buttons. Hope this helps.

You don't need any type of case, but you do need the vinyl trim plate that Crutchfield provides to fill in the stock trim plate that is customized for the factory radio (the replacement trim plate has a rectangular opening for the radio and a circular opening for the emergency flasher button). I did decide to send back the Jensen unit because of a couple of issues: 1) the FM tuner seemed to cut out frequently (the reception would drop off suddenly for a couple of seconds--this happened very rarely with the stock radio); and 2) since the Jensen has only speaker outputs (not pre-amp outputs), the speaker output should be attenuated with another device that Crutchfield sells (although that device is not strictly necessary). At the recommendation of the shop that installed my radio, I ended up swapping out the Jensen for a Kenwood DNX691HD radio. It is a good deal more expensive, but it appears to be a far better radio/navigation receiver than the Jensen and since it has pre-amp output, there is no need to worry about attenuating the volume.

Brain, being a customer who recently purchased the Jensen VX7020, all I can add is that Crutchfield will provide you a Metra trim and bracket kit with your order...if one is made for your car. The Double DIM dimension is 4" x7" but is reduced by a 1/4" so as to fit against the face of the new Jensen along the edges. You should first verify that you have an existing front face dimension that is equal or greater then 4" x 7" Also Crutchfield will tell you if the radio will fit your car.

How does the screen look at different times of the day? Can you adjust the brightness to auto dim? Can you change the text colors or have custom backgrounds other than the factory default backgrounds? Can you connect iphone5 via USB and control apps like Pandora from the radios touch screen?

Pandora is controlled on the radios screen, you must get it started then connect to the radio via the USB cable. Other apps are not supported other than playing your music files and Pandora.

read the owners manual...it tells you how to adjust the colors and the brightness...I have no problem in mine and I just allow the colors to change randomly....I also plug in my iPhone and it plays whatever I have stored on it automatically...I haven't tried to manipulate the programming but I believe that can best be done from the phone itself.

I have mine installed in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with a manual transmission and the camera activates immediately, even before the system is fully booted up. It should work for you provided you have the camera attached to your reverse light power wire...

It does have a dedicated rear view camera input. It will automatically switch to camera when placed in reverse if it is wired correctly. It will then switch to radio, nav, etc when placed in drive. I did not personal install mine, but I think different models requires different wiring. There is a trigger wire that must be wired in for it to switch. You can probably find info on this on the internet for the make of vehicle you are installing it in. I installed mine in a Nissan Frontier and that is how we got the info. Hope this helps & good luck.

Yes. It has a dedicated input for the rear view camera which works with the reverse gear and it also has another camera input in addition which you can select from the touch screen.

Yes, Ralph, the rear camera video is automatically displayed when the car is placed in reverse. Just plug in the video cable in the back of the unit. No buttons to push at all.

Yes, it does. I bought a camera, connected it to a power source, plugged it into the RCA jack labeled "camera" and it worked as soon as I put the truck in reverse. You can also manually switch to the camera while driving if you want to check something you are towing. Super easy to use with a camera.

I was wondering how do you wire up the SWC that comes with the Navigation system? Do I need to get an adapter that will plug into the SWC harness that came with it?
    titolydia  Jun 26, 2014

The SWC controller in the VX7020 will work directly with standard Resistive type steering wheel controls. It comes with a 3.5mm adapter that will allow you to plug into most brands of SWC adapter. So if you have a car that uses CAN/LAN/ or a non-standard resistive type (Mazda for example) then you should do just as Krissy states and ask an adviser for assistance.

I am curious to the input method for the GPS. I often travel to remote locations where I would like to be able to input GPS coordinates into the system. Is this an option for this unit? Or am I only able to input by street address?
