Kenwood Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC-1065S)

Written By twsig, California on Monday, May 04, 2015

So my ragged '84 VW speakers sounded OK....until I put these babies in. Such a 100% difference it just makes me cringe to think why I didn't add these a long time ago. Well worth the $

Pros: Fits in original space, sounds so much better affordable

Cons: I have 0 complaints

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Quality speakers for the price. Improved highs and overall volume fidelity. Little bass but that's expected for a 4 inch speaker. A fun afternoon project for my Chevy Silverado Regular Cab.

Pros: Improved highs with volume clarity

Cons: No bass improvement

Good Speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good speaker

Pros: Good sound, good install instructions

Cons: Install required some drilling even though Crutchfield recommended for truck. Still a basic install, the front install was so easy with free install kit it spoiled me.

Factory Upgrade

Written By Jimmie H., Illinois on Saturday, January 17, 2015

An exceptional product for the price, both in durability and sound quality. I recently installed these and a new Sony head unit in a 1995 Toyota Tercel, to replace the antique factory FM radio and paper/burlap speakers in the doors. These are the only speaker holes in the car, so I needed a pair of decent speakers to do the work of four. They get the job done. Not a lot of bass at low volumes, but they kick in when I turn it up a bit and properly tune the EQ.

As far as installation goes, the factory speakers were accessible by removing a small grill in the door revealing the ugly burlap factory speaker. Good news is I didn't have to remove the entire inside of the door. Bad news is the old speaker was held in with three enormous sheet metal screws, so I had to use the included template to drill four small holes to mount each speaker. Also, the Toyota speaker wire harnesses didn't match the speaker, so I had to cut, strip and crimp to get the job done. Your experience may vary.

Additionally, I added spongy tape to the circumference of the hole to cut down on vibration. I recommend you do the same. Also, I got a lot of distortion at higher volumes until I adjusted the high pass frequency on my unit to 120 Hz, now it's clear as a bell!

Pros: Inexpensive Light Attractive Easy to install Decent quality

Cons: Not enough bass when used alone

Bought these for an '88 Toyota Corolla and mounted them in the front dash. The wire harness didn't match but was able to splice them in with little effort. Loud and nice amount of bass.

Pros: Good sound for the price

Cons: Had to splice the wires instead of being able to direct connect the wire harness

Nice pair of speakers for the price !!! They fit with little modification had to bend the wire connections a tad but the space is very limited on this 90 coupe deville.

Pros: good sound

Cons: none worth mentioning

A Real Bargain

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

About a month ago I completed a full replacement of the sound system in my 19 year old Toyota. These Kenwood 1065s were mounted on the rear deck and paired with 4" Kenwoods in the door panels, and a Kenwood receiver. I am delighted; the sound matches that in our Bose equipped Maxima.

Pros: Great price, easy installation, great sound.

Cons: None

I got these to replace a set of old speakers in a mate's daughter's old Geo Tracker. When it comes down to it, these guys are probably the best bang for your buck that you can get. Very happy with the sound quality.

Actually, I am using these speakers for external speakers on two Ham radios in my mobile. They are mounted in an 8"x14" oak console. Loud, clear audio far surpasses the stock speakers. Great speakers for this application!

Pros: Easy to install and sound GREAT!

Cons: None

Good speaker not for an M3

Written By MarkN, Spartanburg, SC on Sunday, July 20, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a good speaker. It was positioned as a fit for the back speakers of a 95 M3. It is not. A couple of washers and some bent metal and it works fine, but in no way does it "fit". Plugs in just fine and sounds fine.

Pros: Price and sound

Cons: Fit

These speakers are average sounding. Bass is fair not very deep.

Pros: Easy to install and fit is perfect. Wiring that came with it was exactly what I needed.

Cons: Small magnet but you get what you pay for with these speakers.

Easy drop-in replacement

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used these to replace the factory installs on my 04 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. This was my first car audio replacement on my own and it couldn't have been easier. The speakers fit everything perfectly and sound so much better than the old factory ones. FYI i also used Kenwood KFC-1365S for the other speakers in my Jeep and switched the receiver out for Kenwood Excelon KDC-X597.

Pros: Easy to install, even for a beginner Drop-in replacement

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered a pair of these for the dash of my 93 GMC K1500 truck. These work well, considering the size and the price. Of course, they aren't the best you can get, but right now I only have the stock radio in, so I don't know what they are capable of.

Overall, I would highly recommend these if you want something cheap that is respectable. I have always had Kenwood's for car audio, and that is all I will buy. For the price, you can't go wrong.
