Upgrade on a budget

So, you're finally ready to do something about your ragged factory speakers. The beauty of Kenwood's Sport Series speakers is that you can seriously improve your sound without breaking the bank.

Sweet sound

The KFC-1065S 2-way 4" speakers feature polypropylene woofer cones that will enrich your music with all the midbass and midrange details, while the 1" balanced-dome tweeters will make high notes soar. Kenwood also includes sharp-looking grilles in case you're doing a custom installation in your vehicle. Finally, you can enjoy your music the way it was meant to be heard, with clarity and emotion.

Great product and easy installation! Sounds great too! Thanks Crutchfield and Kenwood!

1986 Toyota MR2
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty good, ordered these for my MR2 which only has a two channel system. Rip out the speakers that were already in my car and throw these puppies in and they only sounded marginally better :( Looking at the speakers they were replacing I saw that they were Memphis Car Audio 15-PR42V2 (which after some research, I could Found them on eBay and amazon for $70 bucks/pair) So they're better than speakers that cost almost twice as much. More than enough bass (for me) they're in my dash and I can definitely feel the bass in my steering column, but if you're looking to turn your seats into massage chairs these definitely won't get you there (I've never heard of any 4" 2-way speakers capable of that anyway though) Nonetheless, definitely not perfect, but solid performers at a stellar price and one of the few instances I believe you get more that what you pay for.

Pros: Small @ light Well rounded performance Great price

Cons: Tweeters are fixed - cannot adjust position. Look classy but feel cheap (included speaker wires super thin and 1foot long (I just used the ones already in my car), mesh grill separating from plastic frame (after installation it would otherwise stay in place though), center of woofer cone didn't have that fancy felt or foam lining - ultimately, who cares? you buy them for the sound.

Cons: Needs a bracket to fit... minor speed bump though.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these for a custom made wood speaker box I made to replace the cars partition behind the seats. I made the box volume close to what Kenwood specified as ideal. These are pared with the Kenwood KDC-BT365U also from Crutchfield.

Pros: Sound quality is clear and undistorted when the Kenwood HU has the cut off frequency set correctly (for 4" speakers). This is easily done in the setup section for the speaker types. They are also very good looking with simple, clean grill design.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for something that would give me more bass in my '89 RX7 convertible. These speakers fit perfectly in my front dash without any modification and really did increase the bass. Thanks to the guidance from my Crutchfield rep, I saved a bunch of money by purchasing these instead of some more expensive speakers, and I've really got no complaints. I never expected that I'd be shaking nearby buildings while I was at stop lights, but the bass is very respectable and more than enough for this 50 year old rocker!

Pros: A very good value for the price. Bass is very respectable for a 4" speaker.

four inch speakers are always a compromise at best but these are perfect for my little Chevy Tracker, fitting perfectly into the factory front mounts. Bass response is obviously not the best, but overall, for the money, these speakers work very well and are a vast improvement over stock

Pros: Fit perfectly into factory mounting, using factory speaker covers. Much better sound quality than originals, but once again, that is not saying much with the size of these speakers. Very good compromise solution at a great price.

Cons: What can I say? They're four inch speakers!

Good little speaker that fits my 1st gen toyota 4runner - most speakers do not because of the side of dash mounting locations, and also the depth of the speaker. These are shallow but still produce great sound for such a small speaker. Also shipping was EXTREMELY fast, I'm satisfied for sure!

Factory Upgrade

Jimmie H. from Illinois on 1/17/2015

An exceptional product for the price, both in durability and sound quality. I recently installed these and a new Sony head unit in a 1995 Toyota Tercel, to replace the antique factory FM radio and paper/burlap speakers in the doors. These are the only speaker holes in the car, so I needed a pair of decent speakers to do the work of four. They get the job done. Not a lot of bass at low volumes, but they kick in when I turn it up a bit and properly tune the EQ. As far as installation goes, the factory speakers were accessible by removing a small grill in the door revealing the ugly burlap factory speaker. Good news is I didn't have to remove the entire inside of the door. Bad news is the old speaker was held in with three enormous sheet metal screws, so I had to use the included template to drill four small holes to mount each speaker. Also, the Toyota speaker wire harnesses didn't match the speaker, so I had to cut, strip and crimp to get the job done. Your experience may vary. Additionally, I added spongy tape to the circumference of the hole to cut down on vibration. I recommend you do the same. Also, I got a lot of distortion at higher volumes until I adjusted the high pass frequency on my unit to 120 Hz, now it's clear as a bell!

Pros: Inexpensive Light Attractive Easy to install Decent quality

Cons: Not enough bass when used alone

I ordered a pair of these for the dash of my 93 GMC K1500 truck. These work well, considering the size and the price. Of course, they aren't the best you can get, but right now I only have the stock radio in, so I don't know what they are capable of. Overall, I would highly recommend these if you want something cheap that is respectable. I have always had Kenwood's for car audio, and that is all I will buy. For the price, you can't go wrong.
