Sweet sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got these to replace the stock speakers in my 99 gmc Sierra. Like most other reviewers I found the bass lacking but that wasn't really an expectation. The sound is like night and day compared to stock. The mounting hardware worked well but I had to reuse the stock foam pads on the lower mounting tabs to keep them from rattling. Also very fast shipping. Another good purchase.

2001 Nissan Xterra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The price I paid for Kenwood speakers sound too good to be true. Well, it turns out really is too good to be true. These sounded better than the cheap Boss speakers that I purchased from a big box retailer, but that's it. The speakers feel light in weight and despite being 6.5 in size, they have no mid or lows and sounded hallow. Too bad I already passed the 60 day return period and threw the box away..... In comparison, the JL Audio C2 -600 I ended up swapping these out for weighs twice as much with a magnet that is 4 times the size and packs a better punch with better clarity, but they cost more. These are not 0 or 1 star speakers because there is a market for cheap /inexpensive replacements. Not everyone wants to spend hundred for fancy stuff. However, in my case, I just wanted something better and these weren't it. The saying, buying cheap will end up costing more in the long run unfortunately turned out true in my case.

Pros: cheap price opportunity to open the door back up to swap out these speakers for better ones more stuff to donate to Goodwill

Cons: poor sound

Good Speakers, Need Creative Mounting approach.

Kenny from Wichita, KS on 10/30/2016

2013 Mazda CX-5
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers are good, they fit inside the OEM speaker frame. They DO Not work with the supplied mounting brackets or the wiring harness. The factory wiring plugs into the Outside of the speaker, there is No speaker wiring inside the door to get wiring harness inside the door and behind the speaker you would have to make a large hole into the metal door... You can instead, remove the cone from the OEM speaker and break out the factory basket leaving the outer ring, with the factory wiring harness going through it, allowing these speakers to be mounted inside the factory ring.

Pros: Great speakers, size is Perfect for mounting inside original speaker basket.

Cons: Supplied mounting rings and wiring harness adapters can Not be used. Wiring MUST go through mounting ring.

Sound good with easy installation using the jumper wires and front adapters, I didn't need to use the rear adapters they sent me. I did use wire ties to make sure the jumper wire did not get caught in the power window regulator assemblies and lubed the window tracks and door latch's as long as I was in there!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these speakers in a 2008 Trailblazer. Installation took all of about 30 minutes. This includes removal of door panel, speaker, modification of speaker housing and re-installation. Took about 10 minutes to modify the speaker housing and install new speaker. All it took to modify speaker housing was a dremel tool. Modification is very minor. These speakers reproduce all Frequencies really good. If you want the Thump and Bump sound they would not be the ones to get but, for regular listening they work very well. Service from Crutchfield was excellent.

Good Balance and Clarity, but still lacking

Kyle from Lenexa, KS on 10/7/2016

2010 Nissan Versa
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got 4 of these for my Nissan to get some better clarity out of my aftermarket head-unit (stock speakers distorted highs when there was lows mixed with it). Installed the front pair and did a test run. Got the clarity I wanted, but lost a lot of the low end that the stocks surprisingly had. Fading from front to rears you can defiantly hear a huge upgrade from the stock to these, except the lack of lows. I might return the set I purchased for the rears, and maybe invest in a low profile sub to fill out the rest.

Pros: Cheap, great separation from the highs and what lows there are. These speakers work great if you primarily listen to rock or vocal work.

Cons: Lows lack. You can squeeze a bit out messing with EQ and speaker size or crossover settings on the head-unit (if you have the options).

These speakers are below the quality of knock off products found at the flee market. Their magnet was half the size of the stock Honda speaker. From the moment I ordered from Crutchfield I felt I was in good hands. Installation instructions were emailed to me with my purchase receipt. I was more impressed they they included the necessary parts to connect right up to my factory installation with no modifications needed in any way

Pros: Step by step installation instructions for my model truck were easy to read and follow. All parts connected perfectly the first time with no modifications needed and you can't tell its not a factory install.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was really surprised at how good these speakers were. For my install, I had to replace both a head unit (with Kenwood KDC-x700) and all of the speakers because they were a factory installation (Mini Cooper R52 Harman Kardon) that used 2 ohm as the standard. The old system sounded great, but was 10 yrs old and had no modern features. The new deck was a 4-ohm, so all four speakers had to be replaced. The mounting kit that Crutchfield provided was perfect and everything went smoothly. For the price (it was on special), I wasn't expecting the quality of sound or at the volume these could produce. The car these were installed in is a convertible, so I was hoping for the best and wasn't disappointed. They sound just as good, if not better than the factory kit.

Pros: Easy to install, really good highs & mids. The bass on these sounded weak initially, but they just needed adequate power and profile tuning. Consider a small amp if you're really looking for a lot of bass or volume. I've have no complaints once these were dialed in.

Cons: For the design and as a general purpose set of speakers, I don't have any cons.

These speakers sound nice and clean and paired up nicely with my Pioneer FH-X830BHS. I used the Metra 72-7800 Speaker Wiring Harness and Scosche SAHR6 Speaker Mounting Brackets and other than drilling a few pilot holes they installed quite easily.

Pros: Sound good. Affordable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They sound great and came with everything i needed to install. I did upgrade from a pair of 5 in. to these and had no problem fitting them in the door panel. i did cannibalize my factory speakers and used the outer ring for mounts; I just liked how they lined up with the holes better. All in all i'm specifically impressed with the quality for the price and the fact that they came with fast connectors that took all of 30 seconds to install without wire strippers or a need to verify a diagram.

Pros: idiot proof, look great, sound great

Cons:

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers did a great job replacing the stock ones in my '07 Civic, a couple of which had blown and were sounding terrible. Since we may not have the car too much longer, I didn't go crazy with the 'upgrade' aspect, but these are clearly better than the original ones and I'd have been smart to replace them long ago to enjoy better sound quality. At times, the low end seems to get a bit overwhelmed, but that may be due in part to the recordings. By and large they reproduce an excellent sound and we can crank them up fairly well. Crutchfield provided everything I needed and their instructions walked me right through the install, step-by-step, so couldn't really be happier!

Pros: Price, quality & ease of installation

Cons: None yet!

Purchased along with upgraded head unit. Installed in rear seat with excellent instructions on how to remove door assembly. Sound QUALITY is a step up from stock speakers, but does not have quite the loudness or base punch. With stock speakers up front, the sound is better overall. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Didn't want to spend too much money, and thought the reviews sounded good. However I am pretty bummed that the low end isn't a little better. It's pretty much non existent. The highs sound much better than stock, and if I were listening to acoustic music all day it would be great. But anything with bass will suffer without a sub. On another note, the website showed I had rear door speakers, turns out my rear speakers are in the roof. There is a slot for them in the door, but no wiring. I contacted crutch field and because they are awesome I get to return them for free. But still the speakers for the front are lacking major bass (using pioneer deck also)

Pros: Cheap Highs Easy install

Cons: Lows/bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased one pair based on the specs. Upon connecting I was disappointed with the bass distortion and lack of punch. I called Crutchfield and advised, I then replaced the head unit with a Kenwood 22 watts rms 50 watt peak with no difference. Believing in was the location of the speakers in the rear doors, I purchased another pair for the front doors. Same crappy sound. They are crisp and clear as far as mid and highs, but they cannot reproduce good bass as advertised. I will be contacting Crutchfield and replacing both sets.

Pros: Great highs and mid with clarity at mid volume.

Cons: Distorted bass, cannot reproduce 35Hz as advertised.

2003 Nissan Maxima
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had such high hopes for these speakers but I have to admit I'm disappointed. I was replacing stock speakers in my 2003 Maxima. I had put in a Pioneer AVH-2800 deck with a touchscreen which I really like. I wanted to upgrade the speakers as my front right speaker has some mild distortion at even moderate levels, possibly blown since it seems to be certain tones that cause the distortion no matter the volume level. So, I ordered these Kenwood speakers due to the positive reviews and the price. Given that my car is 13 years old, I had a budget in mind, and I'm older so I'm more fiscally responsible than I was in my 20s. :) Anyway, the installation went well, everything seemed to be fine. I turned on the car, and sat back to enjoy my higher quality of sound. Nope. Not even close to what I had expected. The mid and high range seems to be a very slight improvement but at even moderate volume the distortion of the bass is way too annoying to even consider to put up with. I thought maybe it was one speaker causing the problem so I adjusted fader and balance controls to isolate each speaker and every one of them had the same distortion. SO... tonight after work, I'm going to tear into my doors and pull them and put the stock speakers back in. I'm seriously bummed.

Pros: mid and high range tones are pretty crisp and clear

Cons: lower mid and bass cause distortion, even with my loudness and bass boost off, it can still happen.

Bought these after the stock speakers went out after 195k miles. Wasn't looking for anything special, just something to compliment the subs. These perfectly fit the bill. Fantastic highs and clear mids. Lows are typical of a speaker in this price range, but my subs are picking up the slack anyway. Would definitely buy again.

Pros: Cheap Fantastic highs Clear mids

Cons: Lacking lows

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good looking speakers and installation with adaptive ring was easy only need to elongate one hole with drill, not a problem. Sound is low in relation to other speakers because they are 4 ohms impedance and Chrysler 2000 LHS is 2 ohms impedance. Because Crutchfield had recommended these speakers for this car I assumed the specs would be right, they work but at half volume wish I would have known that I would have paid more for 2 ohms impedance

Pros: They work and adaptive ring made the job easy, great price, may use with my home theater and with a 4 ohms system I think they would sound fantastic for the money

Cons: None other then I wish they were 2 ohms

I replaced my front door factory speakers with this set after they both had seized up. The install was a breeze with the free Mounting Kit and even though they did not look very stout out of the Box, the Sound quality is great and adding the Tweeters over the Factory One Way Speakers improved the staging of a already good sounding Factory Sound System on my Kia Soul. Replaced factory speakers in daughters '09 Accord with base 6 speaker system. Not much power coming from the head unit, but still an improvement over stock. Pros: Easy install, great service and communication from Crutchfield, free speaker brackets and wiring harness.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to replace 14 year old stock rear door speakers. Although the stock didn't have any visible deterioration, after replacing them with these Kenwoods, the sound was noticeably better in terms of clarity and range. As with all speakers, I wish there was an option to order them without grills, as it is a waste to throw them out. I put same size Rockford Fosgate's component speakers in the front and found the RFs required less volume to sound optimal; possibly location of speakers, but I think it had a lot to do with the speakers themselves. Tuning the stock head unit to fade to the rear (range of F7 to R7), I found R4 just right to balance the volume needed by the Kenwoods in the rear to match the Rockford Fosgates up front. No regrets: Love it.

Pros: Price, quality, installation.

Cons: Requires more volume to match component speakers in the front.

Im not sure what everyone else is complaining about. The speaker for sure are better than the stock ones that came in the vehicle. The installation was super easy and it took me less than an hour to get the whole thing done. For the price they are great and to me it has great sound quality.

Pros: Easy install and all needed parts were included.

Cons: Had to drill 2 holes on each door for the adapter. Other than that it was an easy install.

Not bad at all for the cost

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So much better than the factory speakers in my 2014 Ford Fiesta, but then again I could have replaced them with paper cups and a string and that would have been better too. Ford really puts garbage speakers into their Fiesta's. They blow out way to easily. Seriously, these are great speakers for the cost. They are not going to give you the bass some people insist on. They sound good but are not designed to handle high volumes. A fantastic upgrade for the cost.

Pros: Great overall upgrade to the factory Ford speaker. My rating of 5-stars certainly takes into consideration the cost. If I spent a lot more per pair, these would certainly only rank 2 or 3 stars.

Cons: None when you take into consideration the cost and the purpose. A simple cost effective upgrade to factory speakers.

Just finished installing these int he front door of my 2001 Subaru Forester. Very easy to install, pulled off the existing door grills, unscrew the existing speakers and disconnect the factory cabling. Used wiring kit from Crutchfield and it was a matter of reconnecting and mounting the new speakers onto the speaker holder. Overall sound quality was improved compared to the factory speakers. Most noticeable was it made listening to a cell phone call much easier, it used to require turning the volume up all the way up during a phone call and then back down when the call was finished.

Now my tunes sound the way they were meant to. What a difference from the factory speakers; crisp-n-clear sound.

Pros: All hardware was included, just like advertised. Even came with instructions (just in case). Quality sound all around (purchased 4 of them).

Cons: None, zip, zero, nada.

I replaced my stock speakers with these. The sound is good, but the bass is basically non-existent. I have these running from a new Kenwood double din deck. I assumed they would handle the wattage, but they do not.

Pros: Easy install, cheap price

Cons: lacking bass and mids

I was having issues with my stereo so i thought with only one speaker providing sound. I pulled one of the non-functioning speakers door panels off and discovered that i was getting AC signal but the speaker, while it looked to be in good shape, was not working. I went to "What fits my car?" and found the most economical replacements. These speakers may be cheap but they perform well, they even put a little bass out. I did not end up using the adapter plates but modified the plastic, read break off, around the speaker mounting location and made new holes in the factory plastic flanges.

Pros: Good economy sound for a two-way speaker. Have a little bass to them.

Cons: Stamped steel flange is a little flimsy but worked well for my application.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a kenwood DNX890HD and the stock speakers sounded ok. Head unit 22 watts rms, so I figured the upgraded speakers would sound better, but sounded worse! Bass was a joke and sounded like junk. I was ready to put the stocks back and return these, but I wanted to hear them with an amp and they were 100% better. Amp is overkill (I use them for subs) but I kept the gain low and the kenwoods sound clear, loud and has bass! I was shocked at how good they sound now. I did not want to put an amp, but the kenwoods really needed it.

Pros: Low price

Cons: Not great with just head unit. Needs an amp.

Bet $40 speakers I've ever listened to.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

In my opinion, for the cost you just can't beat these. I bought these to put in the front doors of my wife's car since she's been rolling around with 1/4 speakers working. As of this writing they are hooked directly to the stock head unit (for now). My wife loves them, for $40 I'm very satisfied.

Pros: Bass is surprisingly punchy/tight; maybe I just lucked out with the volume of the door cavities matching the characteristics of the speakers well? Who knows? I think this will be even better with a proper head unit/amp; though the RMS rating for these is low so I'll have to be careful.

Cons: Power handling is low; not really a con for $40 speakers, but keep it in mind if you're wiring these up to an amplifier.

Stock Speaker Was Better

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got these for my front doors and higher end Excelon Kenwood speakers that fit the rear doors. Put one of these in the front door and did a direct A/B comparison with the balance control. My stock speaker had significantly better sound, especially the low end. This is a more full range speaker with the tweeter than the stock speaker, but with stock tweeters in place near the dash, the weak, tinny bass of this speaker made me pull it out and reinstall the stock speaker. With a subwoofer, these would probably provide decent mids and highs, but I was not looking to go this route but I'm thinking about it now. I am keeping the Kenwood Excelon KFC-X173's for the rear doors which were about twice the price.

Pros: Saved money by buying Kenwood speakers with my new receiver

Cons: Very weak bass, stock speaker was better sounding with separate stock tweeter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You get what you pay for.....they pass signal/emit sound and are OK for the money, I guess. But if you like music, spend a little more for something better. Lackluster bass frequency response, probably because they don't weigh much, i.e. magnet size. They also didn't fit my vehicle that well, and the 'free' installation gear is awkward and doesn't inspire confidence. Also, a note to Crutchfield - the system which tells you what equipment fits your make/model/year isn't really accurate. Speakers listed on Crutchfield as not being compatible with my car installed perfectly (purchased elsewhere)....and they fit much better than these speakers ever did. Thankfully Crutchfield has a liberal return policy.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Didn't fit well, wimpy mounting hardware, poor overall speaker performance for corksniffers like me, lackluster bass response

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased 4 of these speakers along with the Kenwood DPX792BH receiver. I installed the receiver first just to gauge how it sounded with the stock speakers and, indeed, sounded cleaner. I replaced the front door speakers with these 6 1/2" speakers (stock were 6 3/4"). The receiver gives each channel 22w rms. These speakers sound crisp and clean. I faded the music all to the front and I turned them up as loud as I would care to stand and no distortion! Whoever said these don't put out bass must have a crappy stock radio and/or their EQ set improperly. I turned bass boost off and set EQ to Powerful and these speaker vibrate my doors nicely. I can't wait to replace my rear seat 6x9's with my 2nd pair. Highly satisfied with my purchase and Crutchfield. Buy these speakers now.

Pros: Inexpensive, value, quality

Cons: Likely wouldn't hold up with amplifier power

The speakers were exactly as described. They came with the wiring and bracket that was needed for my vehicle so install was a breeze. I installed both rear speakers in about 1 1/2 hours, I had to remove basically the extra cab side skin. Most importantly, the speakers sound great for the price!

Pros: Easy Breezy Install

Cons: They don't come with a technician in the box to install them.
