These speakers make a great upgrade to the OEM speakers in my 06 Colorado. I had one speaker that was blown and rumbled all the time. These made the sound with the new Kenwood radio much crisper than stock. As others have said these do not transmit a lot of bass but more than enough for a small truck cab.

Pros: Great speaker for money.

Cons: not much bass, but not much was expected so it's all good.

I knew my original speakers were bad but didn't realize that each one was busted until I took them out. I don't know how they made any sound. The new Kenwoods sound great in my truck. After replacing all four with the Kenwoods, there is no comparison. For the price these speakers do a great job.

Best value 2-way to replace stock

Written by: AlexAloha from Kaneohe, HI on April 28, 2016

2002 Toyota Highlander

Bought these to replace 14 year old stock rear door speakers. Although the stock didn't have any visible deterioration, after replacing them with these Kenwoods, the sound was noticeably better in terms of clarity and range. As with all speakers, I wish there was an option to order them without grills, as it is a waste to throw them out. I put same size Rockford Fosgate's component speakers in the front and found the RFs required less volume to sound optimal; possibly location of speakers, but I think it had a lot to do with the speakers themselves. Tuning the stock head unit to fade to the rear (range of F7 to R7), I found R4 just right to balance the volume needed by the Kenwoods in the rear to match the Rockford Fosgates up front. No regrets: Love it.

Pros: Price, quality, installation.

Cons: Requires more volume to match component speakers in the front.

Im not sure what everyone else is complaining about. The speaker for sure are better than the stock ones that came in the vehicle. The installation was super easy and it took me less than an hour to get the whole thing done. For the price they are great and to me it has great sound quality.

Pros: Easy install and all needed parts were included.

Cons: Had to drill 2 holes on each door for the adapter. Other than that it was an easy install.

Not bad at all for the cost

2014 Ford Fiesta

So much better than the factory speakers in my 2014 Ford Fiesta, but then again I could have replaced them with paper cups and a string and that would have been better too. Ford really puts garbage speakers into their Fiesta's. They blow out way to easily. Seriously, these are great speakers for the cost. They are not going to give you the bass some people insist on. They sound good but are not designed to handle high volumes. A fantastic upgrade for the cost.

Pros: Great overall upgrade to the factory Ford speaker. My rating of 5-stars certainly takes into consideration the cost. If I spent a lot more per pair, these would certainly only rank 2 or 3 stars.

Cons: None when you take into consideration the cost and the purpose. A simple cost effective upgrade to factory speakers.

2001 Subaru Forester

Just finished installing these int he front door of my 2001 Subaru Forester. Very easy to install, pulled off the existing door grills, unscrew the existing speakers and disconnect the factory cabling. Used wiring kit from Crutchfield and it was a matter of reconnecting and mounting the new speakers onto the speaker holder. Overall sound quality was improved compared to the factory speakers. Most noticeable was it made listening to a cell phone call much easier, it used to require turning the volume up all the way up during a phone call and then back down when the call was finished.

I was having issues with my stereo so i thought with only one speaker providing sound. I pulled one of the non-functioning speakers door panels off and discovered that i was getting AC signal but the speaker, while it looked to be in good shape, was not working. I went to "What fits my car?" and found the most economical replacements. These speakers may be cheap but they perform well, they even put a little bass out. I did not end up using the adapter plates but modified the plastic, read break off, around the speaker mounting location and made new holes in the factory plastic flanges.

Pros: Good economy sound for a two-way speaker. Have a little bass to them.

Cons: Stamped steel flange is a little flimsy but worked well for my application.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a kenwood DNX890HD and the stock speakers sounded ok. Head unit 22 watts rms, so I figured the upgraded speakers would sound better, but sounded worse! Bass was a joke and sounded like junk. I was ready to put the stocks back and return these, but I wanted to hear them with an amp and they were 100% better. Amp is overkill (I use them for subs) but I kept the gain low and the kenwoods sound clear, loud and has bass! I was shocked at how good they sound now. I did not want to put an amp, but the kenwoods really needed it.

Pros: Low price

Cons: Not great with just head unit. Needs an amp.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

In my opinion, for the cost you just can't beat these. I bought these to put in the front doors of my wife's car since she's been rolling around with 1/4 speakers working. As of this writing they are hooked directly to the stock head unit (for now). My wife loves them, for $40 I'm very satisfied.

Pros: Bass is surprisingly punchy/tight; maybe I just lucked out with the volume of the door cavities matching the characteristics of the speakers well? Who knows? I think this will be even better with a proper head unit/amp; though the RMS rating for these is low so I'll have to be careful.

Cons: Power handling is low; not really a con for $40 speakers, but keep it in mind if you're wiring these up to an amplifier.

Stock Speaker Was Better

2004 Toyota RAV4
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got these for my front doors and higher end Excelon Kenwood speakers that fit the rear doors. Put one of these in the front door and did a direct A/B comparison with the balance control. My stock speaker had significantly better sound, especially the low end. This is a more full range speaker with the tweeter than the stock speaker, but with stock tweeters in place near the dash, the weak, tinny bass of this speaker made me pull it out and reinstall the stock speaker. With a subwoofer, these would probably provide decent mids and highs, but I was not looking to go this route but I'm thinking about it now. I am keeping the Kenwood Excelon KFC-X173's for the rear doors which were about twice the price.

Pros: Saved money by buying Kenwood speakers with my new receiver

Cons: Very weak bass, stock speaker was better sounding with separate stock tweeter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You get what you pay for.....they pass signal/emit sound and are OK for the money, I guess. But if you like music, spend a little more for something better. Lackluster bass frequency response, probably because they don't weigh much, i.e. magnet size. They also didn't fit my vehicle that well, and the 'free' installation gear is awkward and doesn't inspire confidence. Also, a note to Crutchfield - the system which tells you what equipment fits your make/model/year isn't really accurate. Speakers listed on Crutchfield as not being compatible with my car installed perfectly (purchased elsewhere)....and they fit much better than these speakers ever did. Thankfully Crutchfield has a liberal return policy.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Didn't fit well, wimpy mounting hardware, poor overall speaker performance for corksniffers like me, lackluster bass response

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased 4 of these speakers along with the Kenwood DPX792BH receiver. I installed the receiver first just to gauge how it sounded with the stock speakers and, indeed, sounded cleaner. I replaced the front door speakers with these 6 1/2" speakers (stock were 6 3/4"). The receiver gives each channel 22w rms. These speakers sound crisp and clean. I faded the music all to the front and I turned them up as loud as I would care to stand and no distortion! Whoever said these don't put out bass must have a crappy stock radio and/or their EQ set improperly. I turned bass boost off and set EQ to Powerful and these speaker vibrate my doors nicely. I can't wait to replace my rear seat 6x9's with my 2nd pair. Highly satisfied with my purchase and Crutchfield. Buy these speakers now.

Pros: Inexpensive, value, quality

Cons: Likely wouldn't hold up with amplifier power

The speakers were exactly as described. They came with the wiring and bracket that was needed for my vehicle so install was a breeze. I installed both rear speakers in about 1 1/2 hours, I had to remove basically the extra cab side skin. Most importantly, the speakers sound great for the price!

Pros: Easy Breezy Install

Cons: They don't come with a technician in the box to install them.

These speaker were a great value for replacing the stock speaker. These are not going to replace high end speakers but should replace most stock speakers. These speakers fit great with the included (free) brackets and wire harness adapters. The brackets made it possible to go from the stock 5.25 inch speaker to a 6.5 inch speaker for deeper lows. Overall very pleased with these speakers and Crutchfields service.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wasted so much time on the speakers thinking that I was hooking them up wrong. It turned out, that after all the phone calls to support they were just terrible speakers. I had one stock speaker that was rattling a bit, and due to the high ratings on the speakers, I thought that I would just replace all four. Turns out these were absolutely disappointing. I would not recommend them to anyone. I'm not sure why so many people are saying that they are way better than stock, but I can't imagine how bad the speakers must be that they are replacing.

Pros: Great price!

Cons: Void of Bass Sound like they might be blown, but all 4 sound the same. Sound worse than stock

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers are an adequate replacement for the stock speakers in the car. Nothing special but sound is clear and goes plenty loud. The instructions weren't bad but not exact either. There was a piece to remove the door handle that could have been a little more specific on removing it. I cracked the one on the driver side. Knowing what I did on that one I was able to get the passenger side off without breaking anything. Now I am unable to find a replacement part for what I broke. No listing for it anywhere. I was able to rig the door with Gorilla glue and seems to be holding. Fingers crossed. I may go for a more powerful speaker for the back doors that can handle some more bass. For now though I am happy with the speakers and cost was very low.

Pros: Inexpensive, easy install, good sound quality.

Cons: Limited bass, instructions weren't exact and left me with a cracked door release.

Ok for the money, if you want a cheap upgrade from stock. Probably should have spent a little more on better speakers.

Pros: Ok for the money.

Cons: Cheap. They distort pretty easily. Probably have to hook up subwoofer and turn bass way down on these.

Enjoy distortion at anything over normal "easy listening" volume

Written by: Brent S from seattle, WA on March 14, 2016

These sound flat at low to medium volume. Turn it up and the distortion becomes more than evident. They may be fine for grandmas Volvo but you Rock and Roll loving head bangers are going to be disappointed in these speakers. Hollow, tiny, puny, weak speakers that leave you wanting more. This doesn't bode well when you feel the need to crank it up.

Pros: They didn't cost too much. They look good. Full instal kit included (wires, screws & protective grilles.

Cons: They sound weak even when powered with an amp. Not much bang for your hard earned bucks. Spend an extra $20 and get something much better sounding.

Mounted these speakers just like the instructions said and was very disappointed at first. Might be common sense to some, but I never considered using the foam gaskets from my factory speakers on the new speakers. After I put the gaskets between the speaker and door panel they sounded great. After doing research I saw others doing this or using foam tape, makes a big difference. I suspect the foam baffles might work even better... Might have to try them.

Pros: Easy installation, price, and dealing with Crutchfield.

While these might not be the highest rated or have the SNOB appeal of more expensive brands, they are nonetheless a very good, inexpensive upgrade to your old factory speakers. Very easy to install(especially with Crutchfield's install kits) and an immediate improvement in sound quality with my factory radio.

Pros: Easy to install. Great value!

I bought two sets of these speakers for my '05 Prius with the standard factory stereo and am very pleased at the vast improvement in the sound! The speakers were easy to install with the included wiring harness, speaker brackets and detailed instructions. It took about 1.5 hrs to get them installed. I would definitely recommend these babies for anybody wanting to upgrade the sound in their ride when you don't have a lot of scratch to spend!

Pros: Improved sound. Straight forward install.

I bought these for my wife because her speakers were all blown. They didn't impress her at all, and she had told me that they crackle when turned up high. I purchased these mainly because they were affordable and would satisfy her needs. They didn't. You get what you pay for I guess.

2002 GMC Sierra 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The quality of the materials seems fine, but I am very disappointed in the audio performance. Of course, you need to be careful about RMS vs peak power--these speakers are listed at 300w peak but only 30w RMS. That's fine as I don't need crazy volume. What I can't stand is that after comparing the frequency response with a few others, these had the best low end listed at 35hz, yet the bass is Terrible. And I mean not even there. I replaced the front speakers in my 2002 GMC Sierra crew cab, and tested with the Clarion head unit already installed, and as I faded front to back there was a huge gain in bass on the factory rear speakers. They are both 6.5". I also noticed the magnet appears more substantial on the factory speakers. I'm just glad I tested these before installing the back, because the second pair is getting returned. Lesson learned: Frequency response specs are worthless without a dB range associated. Just because a speaker has a response doesn't mean it's audible! Don't buy these unless you only need them strictly for mids and highs. They might have a good product, but don't claim to have lows if you don't have them.

Pros: Good value. Materials seem better than factory. Look nice.

Cons: Low range is non-existent compared to specs and factory speakers.

Installed on front door and rear deck of my 2000 Nissan Altima, the only reason they sound better than the front door speakers that were replaced is because the original speakers had no more rubber surrounds. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice replacements for my Subaru. The installation was fairly easy. You have to drill new holes for the mounting brackets, but you'll have that with just about any car and any new speaker these days. Be sure you have good quality drill bits on hand that can punch through sheet metal. I love the crispness of the sound and the bass is incredible, but I think my old factory speakers had it beat for the cymbals and higher-range sounds. On the other hand, I can now crank the volume up as loud as I want and there is NO distortion from these speakers. I've been punishing these new ones for about 2 weeks now, and no complaints so far. Excellent product.

Pros: Easy installation, good materials, sharp crisp sound, excellent bass response, no distortion

Cons: Comes up a little short in the higher-frequency sounds for my liking

Used these to replace Honda Civic factory speaks in the front doors. Although the factory speakers are very cheap, for some reason they do a better job of reproducing bass than these Kenwoods. Not disappointed though, these are nice two-way speakers for the price. I'll work with the EQ settings on the new Pioneer radio to gain a little more fullness overall.

Pros: Super easy installation. Nice fit. Good quality sound.

Cons: Not quite as much bass response as the oem speakers.

2002 Subaru Impreza WRX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good replacement for most factory speakers. What they lack in bass extension and resolution they make up for in errors of ommission, making them easy to live with -- albeit not as apparently efficient as their rated sensitivity might imply.

Pros: They know their place; they get more wrong by not attempting to reproduce something they cannot rather than attempting to do so and making a mess. This makes them less offensive than they could be when the going gets rough. Not strident. Decent midrange yields acceptable vocals. Easy to drive, though not super-efficient. Relatively clean sound at most sensible volume levels. Not the typical boom-and-tizz cheapos.

Cons: Lack bass extension. The bottom end tends to be absent. This is usually better than having it overemphasized or having a midbass hump disguised as true bass, but it should be noted nonetheless. Are not immune to breaking up and audibly clipping if asked to do too much. Decent resolution and detail, but no more than that. No more sensitive than factory speakers.

Swapped out a pair of OEM Lexus speakers for these, and ran new wiring straight from the HU to speaker to bypass stock amp. Magnets were FAR smaller in heft than OEM, which was a little bit of a red flag. Fitment wise, speakers went in easily with (additional purchase) adapters. Sound, however, does leave some left to be desired. Potentially could be remedied by running off of an aftermarket amp, but its not like I'm pushing these to the point of distortion anyway.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have one of those Chevy Silverado's with the junk door speaks known to stop working. After looking around for speakers in my area and not finding something I liked, I called Crutchfield. Should have done that first. The gentleman I spoke with (Cjarlie) asked my problem and what I would use the speaker for. All I wanted was a replacement comparable to what was in the truck. Charlie asked a few more questions, did a little research, and recommended the Kenwood KFC-1665S. He also told me all the needed material, wiring, speaker bracket, and instructions would be included. He said to call anytime for assistance, if needed. The included wiring and brackets I'm sure would have been an added fee at most other stores. Crutchfield stands behind the products they sell. I bought other products from them and had a problem with one and they took care of it with no problem, unlike a retailer in my area of a product my son purchased from that retailer. My order was delivered quickly and on time. The instructions were right on and made installing the speakers much easier for a novice. Thank You Charlie and Crutchfield

2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are simply terrible. I ordered a set for my '06 Chevy Trailblazer to replace the blown front door speakers...these are worse than the stock, base level, blown out speakers. They crackle terribly even at low volume...to the point that it sounds like a delayed echo. Even just lightly touching the woofer cone with my finger makes the crackling noise. Crutchfield sent a replacement pair and they have the same problem...4 speakers, non-consecutive, with the same manufacturing defect would be bad enough but there is more. I measured the impedance of each speaker...they are all different, ranging from 2.5-2.5 ohm (they should be 4 ohm or at least close). The brackets have lots of holes (so that they didn't have to include $0.25 adapter plates like good brands do), but they are all wrong...they don't match up to the Crutchfield vehicle-specific adapter plates, and they don't match up to the standard 6.5" holes that other brands do. That is three major manufacturing defects on each of 4 speakers...I know they contracted out production, but it is still their fault for not checking the produced units. At this point, if a $500 kenwood setup was on sale for $20, I'd pass.

Pros: At least I know never to waste money on anything from Kenwood...ever again. Crutchfield support was as better than I could have hoped for.

Cons: Terrible quality, no quality control at all, poor overall design, worse sound than a Victrola (a lot worse), and 12 major manufacturing defects per 4 speakers. If they had shipped an empty box it would have been better...at least then I wouldn't have had to waste so much time with them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used to replace 8 year old JBL Inifinity 3k700 Azera speakers. Glad I replaced only one of the originals and did a side by side comparison. The Kenwood may sound ok by itself.... But in comparison to the 8 year old JBL it sounded like a tin can. I can not recommend the Kenwoods and am looking for a JBL replacement.

Pros: Reasonable build

Cons: Maybe be ok if nothing else to compare to. Otherwise I suggest JBLs. I want to return them for my money back.

Easy install if you check the box for a conversion kit first, which I did not!!! Sound is pretty good, bass could be a bit better but all around great speaker for the price.

Pros: Good price, easy installation

Cons: some sound quality issues at higher volume

Realize they are cheap speakers. Not happy with the sound and they won't take much volume out of my kenwood without distorting and bottoming out. I am returning these to try something different.

Purchased these speakers for replacement only, after a quick replacement they sounded a little better than stock speakers, I was however impressed with the shipping time. I would recommend these as replacement items.

Pros: Fast Shipment, well packaged, instillation kit included.

Cons: Not premium sound but do work well with my system.

Great Speakers for the Price

2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Giving a 5-star rating because it is a really, really nice speaker for the price and they are Exactly as advertised. The sound is crisp and clean. The quality of the speakers is top-notch. Swapped out my factory speakers (in my completely stock) 2005 Sliveradoo Z71...Everything else remains stock. The cheap paper cones (on my stock speakers) disintegrated around the entire length of both front speakers when I examined them after removal. These replacements helped get the sound back to a nice listening condition. One thing is for sure -- The New Speakers Don't Have A Lot Of Bass -- I'm no Audiophile, but it seems the stock head-unit struggles to drive the bass. I have the bass adjustment turned up to the next-to-highest setting and that gives just about as much bass as possible. Still, a great replacement from the dilapidated speakers that were completely distorting.

Pros: Great Price and the installation kit made replacing the speakers an absolute breeze

Cons: Not a lot of bass, but most likely because of the stock head-unit.

2002 Silverado 1500 LS, easy install with brackets and connectors supplied by crutchfield. Several vids on youtube provide excellent instructions for removing the door panel. Slightly less bass than OEM speakers. Only replaced front speakers, I was going to leave the tweeters connected but one had broken loose so I disconnected both in the front. Speakers are nice and clear and I get plenty of volume with the stock radio.

Pros: easy install, great value for oem replacement speakers at less than half the cost.

Cons: none at this time

I finished out the audio system in the suburban with these and their 5 1/4 inch counterparts. Also paired it with the sound ordinance bp8. These kenwoods are a great sound for the money. mainly mid range, not amazing highs, but you can definitely feel a richer sound. It only took about an hour to install all four. highly recommend these guys if you're looking for a non-obnoxious upgrade.

Pros: easy install, rich sound

Cons: was expecting more highs out of this, but oh well. that's what tweeters are for.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am really amazed at the speed in which they arrived (2 days from order date) and how accurate the website describes the product and the process of installation. If everyone ran their business with this level of integrity, it would take the apprehension out of ordering online. I'm somewhat of a backyard mechanic, so I was not intimidated to attempt this, but I feel certain that Crutchfield reps would have been on the other end of the line if I had called for assistance. The speakers work fine for the price point and are a far cry from the junk that GM (government motors) installed at the factory on the cheap.

Pros: Worked as advertised- the wire adapters and the plastic mount adapters were a huge help- and are included free.

Cons: None

Can't wait to add the Pioneer Stereo - and may get rid of the front factory speakers. The one think I realized when my stereo guy replace the factory speakers - how cheap they were. Stand by Crutchfield - the harness - the bracket for free - and I had my Ipad with the MasterSheet on it - as my stereo guy kinda laughed - as in - I don't need "no stinking MasterSheet list" - but as a DIY - save yourself some money - my stereo guy is also my personal mechanic! He had the tools, and been there and done it. Crutchfield is all I talk about at work - love my new rear Kenwoods. You Guys - Thanks again - and now I hear the difference! Yesssssss! ;-)
