Upgrade on a budget

So, you're finally ready to do something about your ragged factory speakers. The beauty of Kenwood's Sport Series speakers is that you can seriously improve your sound without breaking the bank.

Sweet sound

The KFC-1665S 6-1/2" 2-way speakers feature polypropylene cones that will enrich your music with all the midbass and midrange details, while the 1" balanced-dome tweeters will make high notes soar. Kenwood also includes sharp-looking grilles in case you're doing a custom installation in your vehicle. Finally, you can enjoy your music the way it was meant to be heard, with clarity and emotion.

Highlights:

  • 6-1/2" 2-way speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer with treated cloth suround
  • 1" balanced dome tweeter
  • grilles included
  • power range: 2-30 watts RMS (300 watts peak power)
  • impedance: 4 ohms
  • frequency response: 35-22,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 92 dB
  • top-mount depth: 1-11/16"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Features

Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" PEI balanced dome tweeter. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter. PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

Mounting: The speaker basket has multiple mounting holes and is designed to fit a standard 3-hole 6-1/2" application, Ford's 4-hole 6-1/2" application, and a standard 4-hole 6-3/4" application. (When mounting in a 6-3/4" application, use a speaker baffle to seal the inner ring of screw holes.)

Cheaper than Wal-Mart !

Written By Doug H., North Carolina on Wednesday, February 25, 2015

Perfect fit in my 2002 2500HD. The factory speakers were worn out. Sound great for the price. I'm sure I could have spent more money an got a little bit better sound, but I am well pleased with my purchase.

Pros: Perfect fit, easy install with instructions provided, brackets, & wireing harness

Cons: none

Glad I've replaced my stock stereo

Great price and great sound

Written By Reddobie0, Maryland on Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put these in my 2000 chevy silverado 4 door. I have an aftermarket Pioneer headunit in the vehicle and I guess the factory speakers could no longer handle the added power. I left the tweeters in the doors and just replaced the 6.5" speakers. I would get very bad distortion when I turned the radio up and couldn't use any of the bass, eq, or loudness features. It took less than an hour to install these with the help of an online video showing how to remove the door panel. They sound great and I am glad I didn't spend twice the amount on speakers that might be marginally better. I can now use all the features of the radio and enjoy some bass and crisper sounds. They sound better than the stock ones ever did and are a nice and needed upgrade from the tired old factory speakers. I have always had good luck with kenwood products. If your factory speakers are getting bad this is a perfect choice.

Pros: Can't beat the price and sound for a nice set of speakers, plus Crutchfield gives you everything you need for install

Cons: I can turn my radio up louder now which probably doesn't help my hearing.

great sound little price

Written By 08Cobalt, San Antonio, Texas on Friday, February 20, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in a 2008 chevy cobalt, notorious for having bad speakers. Both my fronts were dead. Install was easy took about 30 minutes, only needed to drill 3 small holes each. The free installation items (adapter plates and wire adapter) for my vehicle worked great. The speakers sound nice and for less than OEM speakers these are a much better replacement. Nice crisp sound, not a lot of bass but enough to vibrate my door mirrors ever so slightly.

Pros: Price, Sound, Better Looking then OEM

Cons: They fit better rotated about 20 degrees, not straight up. But they are behind the door grills so you can't even see that.

Decent for the money

Great Replacements

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not a whole lot of bass, but nice crisp sound. A definite improvement over stock speakers in my '07 Suburban. I didn't want to put a whole new system, I just wanted better sound from the stock deck and these fit the bill. I'm happy with them. You can't beat the deal from Crutchfield. With the speaker mounts and the speaker wire adapters included its a no brainer. The master install sheet was great. We swapped all 4 door speakers in just over an hour. A local shop wanted to charge me $100 to do it.

Pros: Crisp sound, economical.

Cons: Low bass

Cons: Not enough bass.

Kenwood KFC-1665S

Written By Mark S., Texas on Friday, February 06, 2015

I have a 2000 Ford explorer and these were definitely an upgrade, but not by much. the clarity is good considering the price. No bass at all, but I wasn't expecting much. I ordered 2 pairs of the 5-1/4" ones, but they gave me the 6-1/2" as one of the pairs instead and they didn't fit naturally so i had to do a little custom fitting to get it fitted. I would look into higher quality speakers if had the money.

Pros: decent for the price. decent clarity in the mids and highs.

Cons: no bass. the price could be cheaper considering the quality.

These speakers have good pricing (esp scratch/dent), decent bass/treble quality for price, and you can listen to these to med/high volume -- if you want really loud volume, & with better sound quality, go for a better speaker. These speakers are what I expected and I am pleased with them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers for the cost. I didn't want to pay a lot of money to replace my blown speaker on my 08 Acura MDX, so I bought these kenwood speakers to replace them. They are great sounding speakers compared to the OEM ones. Very easy to install with the supplied accessories from crutchfield. These speakers are 4ohm and the factory are 2ohm. i didn't even notice a difference in the volume.

Pros: Cheap and great sounding speakers. Better than OEM.

Cons: The supplied bracket and screws took a little while to figure out but it worked great after I figured it out.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My factory speakers had all gone bad over time, so I was looking for basic, inexpensive replacements. These were very easy to install in my 04 Subaru Outback. They screwed right in to the factory bracket without the need for any spacers. They seem to sound just as good as the factory speakers, so I'm happy with them.

Pros: Cost Ease of Installation

Great Stock Replacement

Written By J.W. Fletcher, Angleton, Texas on Wednesday, January 14, 2015

I replaced the stock speakers in my 2014 Honda Accord Sport Sedan (4 speaker system) with these on the advise of my Crutchfield advisor. Wow was he right! Twice the volume as the stock speakers and better clarity. The stock stereo pushes them well. I ordered the foam baffles with these speakers, but ended up using the speakers without the baffles to improve the bass response.

Pros: Volume, clarity

Cons: a little less bass but not much

Got 4 of these for a 2000 Nissan Xterra along with the suggested replacement brackets and wiring harnesses. Installation was quite easy and the fitment was great. Sound pushed out of these is very crisp and clear. Range is quite good. These are being pushed now with a Pioneer deck and sound Fantastic. I'd definitely recommend them.

Pros: Great sound. Great range. Great price

Cons: None that I can find at the moment.

Great step up from factory. I put them in my 2001 Tahoe and with a cheep head unit they sound amassing. They are good for the average person who is just looking to up the quality in there stereo without breaking the bank.

Pros: Good sound for a great price

Cons: Don't have a very strong bass. It's there but it's not super deep.

2007 honda crv. I was a little concerned at first because the speakers I needed had to be just right in my wifes honda or the windows would hit them when you put them down. The website recommended the propper speaker and hardware ans was a factory fit. They came with everything I needed for easy installation including Honda speaker harness and mount.. The speakers themselves are a definite upgrade from the factory ones and at a reasonable price for Kenwood brand. I am very pleased with this purchase as is my wife who can now enjoy her stereo again.

Pros: Better quality than base factory speakers. Included lots of extras like mounting brackets and harness , They do the homework for you. Price is very good. Easy installation.

Cons: Why didnt I use this site years ago?

Good directions for replacing all 4 speakers in my Honda Civic. Speakers work fine, as expected, and I'm happy to have working speakers in my car again.

Pros: Exact fit to front factory speakers; provided mounting bracket for rear speakers. No vehicle mods needed.

Cons: Speakers go right in place. A bit of a pain to remove the rear deck to get to them, however.

Bought these speakers to replace the original speakers that had deteriorated from age. For the price you cannot go wrong. The original speakers would probably cost the same as these. I only listen to the radio and so I didn't need really great speakers. These did the trick!

Pros: Price and construction. Not the cheap paper cones like the original

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace factory door speakers that were shot. I did not expect too much for the price. I was pleasantly surprised with the sound and the intalation kit that was included. The sound it substantially better that the factory speakers. I am using an aftermarket deck. Nothing special just a JVC with no amp. If you are looking for the most you can get on a budget I would give these a serious look. The sound is so much better that I am thinking about putting a sub in now...and its just a work truck. Also the installation kit was great, even more so after I read the directions.

Pros: Good sound cheap price installation kit

These aren't anything special, but for the price they effectively increase sound quality. I installed them in my 2006 Silverado because the factory speakers had foam rot and they were rattling real bad. They definitely out preformed the factory speakers on the stock stereo. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced my wife's factory GM door and rear deck speakers in her 2010 Malibu with the 1665S. I bought them for the value and reliability of Kenwood products. I figured almost anything would have been better than factory cardboard speakers. The 1665S have outstanding highs and great mids but lack in bass. I may eventually replace them with some Kappas or DB series.

Pros: Mids and highs will produce like a more expensive speaker

Cons: Lacks bass response that will distort with the factory head unit.
