Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

2010 Subaru Legacy
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice replacements for my Subaru. The installation was fairly easy. You have to drill new holes for the mounting brackets, but you'll have that with just about any car and any new speaker these days. Be sure you have good quality drill bits on hand that can punch through sheet metal. I love the crispness of the sound and the bass is incredible, but I think my old factory speakers had it beat for the cymbals and higher-range sounds. On the other hand, I can now crank the volume up as loud as I want and there is NO distortion from these speakers. I've been punishing these new ones for about 2 weeks now, and no complaints so far. Excellent product.

Pros: Easy installation, good materials, sharp crisp sound, excellent bass response, no distortion

Cons: Comes up a little short in the higher-frequency sounds for my liking

Good for talk radio

Written by: david from charlottesville, VA on January 28, 2016

Factory Subaru speakers had fuller sound then these Kenwoods. The only reason I didn't return them was that I'm planning to trade in my car soon. I guess they would be okay if you listened to books on CDs or talk radio.

Pros: Cost, upper range

Cons: build quality, mid-range and low end sound

1996 Honda Civic
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used these to replace Honda Civic factory speaks in the front doors. Although the factory speakers are very cheap, for some reason they do a better job of reproducing bass than these Kenwoods. Not disappointed though, these are nice two-way speakers for the price. I'll work with the EQ settings on the new Pioneer radio to gain a little more fullness overall.

Pros: Super easy installation. Nice fit. Good quality sound.

Cons: Not quite as much bass response as the oem speakers.

Decent performance

2002 Subaru Impreza WRX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good replacement for most factory speakers. What they lack in bass extension and resolution they make up for in errors of ommission, making them easy to live with -- albeit not as apparently efficient as their rated sensitivity might imply.

Pros: They know their place; they get more wrong by not attempting to reproduce something they cannot rather than attempting to do so and making a mess. This makes them less offensive than they could be when the going gets rough. Not strident. Decent midrange yields acceptable vocals. Easy to drive, though not super-efficient. Relatively clean sound at most sensible volume levels. Not the typical boom-and-tizz cheapos.

Cons: Lack bass extension. The bottom end tends to be absent. This is usually better than having it overemphasized or having a midbass hump disguised as true bass, but it should be noted nonetheless. Are not immune to breaking up and audibly clipping if asked to do too much. Decent resolution and detail, but no more than that. No more sensitive than factory speakers.

These speakers were recommended by my advisor and he was right ! they sound crisp and were easy to install in my 2001 Chrysler 300M. The car has a 360w amp built in from the factory so I did not experience poor sound quality sometimes mentioned. These fit behind the OE door speaker grilles just fine.

Pros: Inexpensive with good clarity

Cons: They could have offered better hardware ( cheap screws ), for this installation , the speaker adapter had one ear that is too long for this car.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Swapped out a pair of OEM Lexus speakers for these, and ran new wiring straight from the HU to speaker to bypass stock amp. Magnets were FAR smaller in heft than OEM, which was a little bit of a red flag. Fitment wise, speakers went in easily with (additional purchase) adapters. Sound, however, does leave some left to be desired. Potentially could be remedied by running off of an aftermarket amp, but its not like I'm pushing these to the point of distortion anyway.

Pros: inexpensive, correct sizing, lightweight (?)

Cons: not great sound

Cons: They have no real rich tone. They don't handle higher volumes.

Great Service and Product

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have one of those Chevy Silverado's with the junk door speaks known to stop working. After looking around for speakers in my area and not finding something I liked, I called Crutchfield. Should have done that first. The gentleman I spoke with (Cjarlie) asked my problem and what I would use the speaker for. All I wanted was a replacement comparable to what was in the truck. Charlie asked a few more questions, did a little research, and recommended the Kenwood KFC-1665S. He also told me all the needed material, wiring, speaker bracket, and instructions would be included. He said to call anytime for assistance, if needed. The included wiring and brackets I'm sure would have been an added fee at most other stores. Crutchfield stands behind the products they sell. I bought other products from them and had a problem with one and they took care of it with no problem, unlike a retailer in my area of a product my son purchased from that retailer. My order was delivered quickly and on time. The instructions were right on and made installing the speakers much easier for a novice. Thank You Charlie and Crutchfield

Pros: Good products. Good service and knowledgeable staff.

Terrible Quality Control

Written by: Zack from Wisconsin on November 19, 2015

2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are simply terrible. I ordered a set for my '06 Chevy Trailblazer to replace the blown front door speakers...these are worse than the stock, base level, blown out speakers. They crackle terribly even at low volume...to the point that it sounds like a delayed echo. Even just lightly touching the woofer cone with my finger makes the crackling noise. Crutchfield sent a replacement pair and they have the same problem...4 speakers, non-consecutive, with the same manufacturing defect would be bad enough but there is more. I measured the impedance of each speaker...they are all different, ranging from 2.5-2.5 ohm (they should be 4 ohm or at least close). The brackets have lots of holes (so that they didn't have to include $0.25 adapter plates like good brands do), but they are all wrong...they don't match up to the Crutchfield vehicle-specific adapter plates, and they don't match up to the standard 6.5" holes that other brands do. That is three major manufacturing defects on each of 4 speakers...I know they contracted out production, but it is still their fault for not checking the produced units. At this point, if a $500 kenwood setup was on sale for $20, I'd pass.

Pros: At least I know never to waste money on anything from Kenwood...ever again. Crutchfield support was as better than I could have hoped for.

Cons: Terrible quality, no quality control at all, poor overall design, worse sound than a Victrola (a lot worse), and 12 major manufacturing defects per 4 speakers. If they had shipped an empty box it would have been better...at least then I wouldn't have had to waste so much time with them.

quality construction plus far better sound quality than the factory speakers and with the speaker mounting kit and wiring kit from Crutchfield, they were a breeze to install too, but like any of these small speakers, don't count on much bass, if you need bass and if you're like me, you need bass, you gotta get a sub or 2 and an amp, only then will you truly appreciate the sound quality of these

Great Speakers for the Price

2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Giving a 5-star rating because it is a really, really nice speaker for the price and they are Exactly as advertised. The sound is crisp and clean. The quality of the speakers is top-notch. Swapped out my factory speakers (in my completely stock) 2005 Sliveradoo Z71...Everything else remains stock. The cheap paper cones (on my stock speakers) disintegrated around the entire length of both front speakers when I examined them after removal. These replacements helped get the sound back to a nice listening condition. One thing is for sure -- The New Speakers Don't Have A Lot Of Bass -- I'm no Audiophile, but it seems the stock head-unit struggles to drive the bass. I have the bass adjustment turned up to the next-to-highest setting and that gives just about as much bass as possible. Still, a great replacement from the dilapidated speakers that were completely distorting.

Pros: Great Price and the installation kit made replacing the speakers an absolute breeze

Cons: Not a lot of bass, but most likely because of the stock head-unit.

2002 Silverado 1500 LS, easy install with brackets and connectors supplied by crutchfield. Several vids on youtube provide excellent instructions for removing the door panel. Slightly less bass than OEM speakers. Only replaced front speakers, I was going to leave the tweeters connected but one had broken loose so I disconnected both in the front. Speakers are nice and clear and I get plenty of volume with the stock radio.

Pros: easy install, great value for oem replacement speakers at less than half the cost.

Cons: none at this time

I finished out the audio system in the suburban with these and their 5 1/4 inch counterparts. Also paired it with the sound ordinance bp8. These kenwoods are a great sound for the money. mainly mid range, not amazing highs, but you can definitely feel a richer sound. It only took about an hour to install all four. highly recommend these guys if you're looking for a non-obnoxious upgrade.

Cons: was expecting more highs out of this, but oh well. that's what tweeters are for.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am really amazed at the speed in which they arrived (2 days from order date) and how accurate the website describes the product and the process of installation. If everyone ran their business with this level of integrity, it would take the apprehension out of ordering online. I'm somewhat of a backyard mechanic, so I was not intimidated to attempt this, but I feel certain that Crutchfield reps would have been on the other end of the line if I had called for assistance. The speakers work fine for the price point and are a far cry from the junk that GM (government motors) installed at the factory on the cheap.

Can't wait to add the Pioneer Stereo - and may get rid of the front factory speakers. The one think I realized when my stereo guy replace the factory speakers - how cheap they were. Stand by Crutchfield - the harness - the bracket for free - and I had my Ipad with the MasterSheet on it - as my stereo guy kinda laughed - as in - I don't need "no stinking MasterSheet list" - but as a DIY - save yourself some money - my stereo guy is also my personal mechanic! He had the tools, and been there and done it. Crutchfield is all I talk about at work - love my new rear Kenwoods. You Guys - Thanks again - and now I hear the difference! Yesssssss! ;-)

Not bad. Wasn't expecting worlds of difference. Adapters fitted to these speakers definitely do not fit like OEM. The door panel is pushed out where the new speakers are and one of the pops refuses to go in. I bought these through Crutchfield because of the awesome customer service and all the included extras, but the adapters need to be redesigned. Disappointed. Don't feel like uninstalling them to return them.

Pros: Highs are improved noticeably with Aftermarket receiver.

Cons: Lows are lacking, but I expected a slight decrease. Speakers and adapters are slightly thicker than OEM setup and do not allow door pops to close completely.

Fantastic speakers. Have installed these in other vehicles and came back for more. Great speaker at any cost and these are very reasonable. These replaced all (4) infinity speakers that failed. No need to buy the infinity replacements from the factory...these are a quick and easy install once you figure out what goes where. No instructions and no harness available. I drilled and zip tied the infinity amps to the inside of the front door panels and everything works great. You have to use the factory amps for the rears to work--especially the drivers rear door. I cut and spliced wires only to find that i didn't need to cut and splice wires--good learning experience. Many hours later after re-doing what i had undone, and it's fantastic!

Pros: Sound great

These replaced the factory front door speakers in an '07 Toyota Corolla. Coupled them with a KDC-158U - Kenwood Single DIN In-Dash CD/MP3 Stereo Receiver with USB Interface and Kenwood KFC-6965S 6 x 9 Inches 3-Way rear speakers. The 6 x 9's are as expected. Moderate bass and clean mids. The head unit is excellent. The front 6.5's are much better than expected. I did do my best to seal up the door and made sure they have a good seal, but they are completely exceeding my expectations. Solid low end and very clean throughout the spectrum. Not trying to compare to JL's or anything but for $40.00 they can't be beat. I've installed a lot of equipment both personally and professionally. This was for my wife's car because I couldn't even stand to have the radio on when I was in it. The stock system leaves a lot to be desired. I also added a 8" Rockford sub in a custom built and tuned ported box. Running that on 150 watts and now I actually enjoy driving her car. Everything is crisp and clear well beyond any comfortable listening level. Had the old stuff out and the new stuff installed and tweaked in less than 3 hours including running all wiring for sub/amp in trunk.

Pros: Value, Quality construction, buying from Crutchfield and getting the adapters and wiring harnesses to make installation a breeze.

Cons: The stamped and formed sheet metal nuts that come with the Metra speaker adapters are a bit questionable. They tightened up and felt secure but being inside a door where I can't get to them to see if they stay tight I opted to use my own nylon locking stainless nuts.

2004 Saturn VUE
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, it's important to understand, these are entry level aftermarket speakers. Don't expect ultra-premium quality. That being said, these speakers are very good for the price. They are on par with cars that come with good (premium?) stereos from the factory. If you already like the way your factory stereo sounds, these probably aren't going to be a significant upgrade. But if you have obviously poor-quality speakers or your speakers are damaged or blown, these make great replacements. I put 4 of these in my Saturn Vue (which had a terrible factory stereo system) along with a Kenwood stereo (KDC-X599) and they sound great. I did have to turn up the bass and down the treble, but I'm very pleased with the results.

Pros: Inexpensive. Sound on par with a quality factory system No install problems.

Cons: These are entry level speakers. They are very good for the price, but don't expect audiophile sound quality.

I bought these speakers to replace the OEM woofers in the two-way door speakers in my 2001 Silverado 1500. Crutchfield offered the mounting and wiring harness adapters for free so I ordered them. Most of the ratings were favorable so I took a chance. The next day on my way to work it was immediately apparent that I had made a mistake. Within a few minutes I was trying to adjust out the harshness and brightness of these speakers and their lack of bass. It was not possible to make these speakers sound satisfactory with the settings available on my OEM radio. Crutchfield technical support was very helpful and reminded me of their 60-day guarantee. I like the sound of the OEM woofers but I had three out of four replacements from a different online retailer develop open voice coils. I am hesitant to buy any more of the garbage Delco OEM speakers from Mexico. I may try an upgraded replacement from Crutchfield. It is just such a hassle to replace these things.

I didn't think much about these speakers until I hooked them up. The sound is so crisp and pure, I couldn't believe my ears. So, I compared them side by side with a more expensive pair that I have purchased for the front to make sure that I wasn't dreaming... and I was blown away so much so that I put them in the front and the over priced ones in the back where they now belong. My advice to you non believers: Buy them now, thank me later.

Pros: Great speaker, good bass, crisp and composed sound.

Cons: None but I'd like to point out to those who keep complaining about the lack of bass that these are not sub woofers. The amount of bass that they deliver is adequate, they were not meant rattle your door but to give you crisp and well balanced sound.

These speakers were a nice upgrade from the original speakers of my 2006 Honda Accord. Crutchfield's speaker and wiring adapters make the install very easy. Kenwood 2 Way 6.5" Speakers

2003 Jeep Liberty
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound decent. I gave them a 4 because of the cost in the outlet and have nice features, but don't expect huge, amazing sound. You do get what you pay for. They are a good, low cost upgrade over the stock full range speakers in my teen driver's Jeep Liberty. We replaced the stock speakers and head unit and for a total investment of $200 bucks it is a very nice upgrade. If I were doing it over, I'd probably spend an extra $50 bucks total and get the Kicker or Polk speakers as I think I would have liked the performance a little better.

These speakers really don't produce any bass. You can get some with the loudness and "super bass" settings engaged on the new receiver, but with more than 1/3 volume you start getting distortion from the speakers. They have a very small magnet structure...I think they are actually lighter than the stock speakers. They work best when being gentle with the bass settings. The mids and highs are actually quite smooth and sound much better than the stock speakers. I like the clarity of the sound compared to stock full range. For improved sound on a budget over stock, I would recommend them.

Pros: Price, price, price. Fit well, look nice, smooth mids and highs, much better than stock full range factory speakers. A good value.

Cons: Limited bass, prone to distortion if you "crank them up" with bass settings in the "plus" range.

easy to install, a great replacement upgrade for the blown out speaker in my wife's 2007 subaru forester. I replaced the front door speakers only.

Pros: Excellent instructions and final product has better sound quality that the original speakers. Install took a little over 1.5 hours.

Cons: Drilling new holes in the door was not as straightforward as I would have hoped. be sure to have a sharp drill bit!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these as a replacement for the tired factory speakers in my 2004 Honda Element. They sound great and install with minimal effort. The instructions said that I would need to cut the speaker cover and back-panel but thankfully, I was able to install them without having to do anything except for the drilling of new holes. They are a great choice if you want better sound but don't want to spend too much money.

Pros: Easy installation and economical

Cons: Limited sound depth

2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

...even with low expectation I was disappointed. Bought these to replace disintegrated stock speakers in my 2005 2500 crew. Wasn't expecting much but was hoping for at least better sound than the blown speakers. to be honest it wasn't much better. about as much bass as the old speakers that had no surrounds left! in the defense of the speakers, im still using the stock deck (big part of the problem I hope) and the speakers were cheap! ordered a new deck and am hoping for the best.

Pros: Cheap!

Cons: Cheap!

Crutchfield response on June 16, 2015 It's not uncommon for people to report hearing less bass with new speakers. Factory speakers are often made of cheap, flimsy materials. When you replace that with a better quality speaker, it'll need a little more power than the cheap one did to produce the same amount of bass. Adding a new deck should help, and the bass (and all of the music, for that matter) that you do hear will be cleaner and more detailed.

2002 Chevrolet Blazer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These made great replacement speakers for the rears in my 2002 Blazer, in the sense that they sound pretty much like the old ones. No improvement, except these work and sound fine. However, the mounting adapter simply did not fit the vehicle, nor did the the speakers -although I was able to get three of the four mounting holes close enough to make it work. This was somewhat disappointing as the mounting hardware is the reason I order from Crutchfield in the first place, but they are in and working,so I'm pretty happy.

Pros: Inexpensive, decent sound

Cons: Didn't fit properly

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers might be OK if you have a factory radio and failed door speakers. Not as an upgrade. Certainly not as part of a great stereo setup. 99 Jeep GK w/infinity, OEM whizzer cone speaker "full range"/one driver have a much flatter and frequency response, deeper usable bass, more high end. Seems impossible, but true. I did extensive testing with clean sign wave signals and an SPL meter, but they failed the music test first, and very obvious. So the claimed frequency response of 35 - 22k Hz is bunk in the real world. I'm sure there is some sound coming out at the low and high end, but it's tapered off-scale. I fell for Crutchfield's claim that old speakers are bad speakers. Upon removal, I discovered the infinities have no parts that should deteriorate from normal usage or environment. They are like the old 1960's speakers that never fail, unless blown out. No foam, no rubber, no plastic. I never had a negative thing to say about Crutchfield, but take the old speaker thing with a grain of salt. I am not turned off to Crutchfield. FWIW: The box says JVC/Kenwood, so expect JVC quality now. Buy something better. Blaupunct, Sony, JBL, etc., avoid foam surround if you want them to last. Returning and keeping the OEMs. Not worth tearing the doors apart again to install something better, unless OEMs eventually fail.

Pros: Fit the hole Not foam surround Bling if you surface mount, but they all are nowdays 2 way does not block the woof like a 3 way does, blocking less bass in theory, but in practice there is nothing to block. Clear sound Perfect Yugo upgrade or gift for a bad mother-in-law

Cons: weak low end weak high end in my application, not worth the installation effort if they were free old OEM speakers sound better in all aspects 6 year old 5-1/2" sony xplods sound better in all aspects ($20 local retailer special) in my '90 Range Rover with Sony Xplod receiver (Crutchfield)

2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought the "Scratch & Dent" set, saving me an additional $10. The only "damage" I could see was that the corners of the packaging were slightly dented. The styrofoam inner packaging was just fine and there was NO damage to the speakers whatsoever. I will definitely try the "Scratch & Dent" the next time I order. About the speakers: For less the price and shipped to my door, these can't be beat. I was a bit concerned that they'd be more in line with what you'd find at discount department stores (such as the place with Wal* in its name...), but they seem to outperform anything you'd find there. You have to realize that you're buying an entry level speaker, but adding these to my factory GM AM-FM-CD in a 2001 Silverado vastly improved the dull noise that used to come from the doors. Speakers sound crisp and not "tinny" at all. Not a lot of bass, but it was not to be expected from a 6 1/2" speaker. (You want good bass, buy a good woofer or sub.) These speakers do just what they were meant to do, don't break the bank, and sound good. ***As an added plus, the installation bracket, wire adapters, and install notes made installation a snap! Took longer to dig out the tools than to put them in. (If you find yourself some shorter screws, you won't need to drill anything).

Pros: Good treble and mid range Easy installation with included Crutchfield kit Good quality Low price, especially the "Scratch & Dent" (highly recommended!) "Scratch & Dent" carries FULL warranty

Cons: None yet!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I knew as soon as I took them out of the box they were not going to be an improvement over the factory speakers and I was right. They were cheaply made with a small magnet. The sound was similar to what you would find on an old transistor radio. They also did not fit as per the website. The holes were slightly off and the only way I could put the screws into the bracket is to angle them in, thus damaging the factory bracket. Spend a little more and get some better speakers to make it worth your time to take the door apart.

Pros: Good service and fast shipping from Crutchfield in returning them.

Cons: Cheap, tinny sound. Only good for replacing a dead or blown speaker because I'm sure they would be cheaper than a factory replacement.

Cons: Take 5 and line up the factory speakers to the mounting plates that will tell you which holes to use and then mount the Kenwoods, remove the the 4 pins on the inside of the door panel and install. Not really a con just a heads up.
