Our take on the Kenwood KDC-BT318U

by Dave Delamere
Kenwood

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Bluetooth at a bargain

Kenwood's KDC-BT318U CD receiver gives you Bluetooth® for hands-free calling convenience, plus a wireless connection to the songs stored on your compatible music player. If you're an Android® user who's grown tired of your old radio's complicated Bluetooth pairing issues, you'll love this receiver's simple, secure pairing (SSP) technology. If you're an iPhone® aficionado, the KDC-BT318U gives you full Siri Eyes Free control with compatible Siri-equipped iPhones.

Pair your compatible phone to the KDC-BT318U and you can talk hands-free by simply touching the dedicated "phone" button when a call comes in. And the receiver can reply automatically to text messages to let your contacts know that you're busy driving. You can place the external Bluetooth microphone in an optimal location within the vehicle for improved hands-free communication.

Stream radio from your phone

If you enjoy Internet radio on your iPhone or Android, you'll really enjoy playing music from Pandora® and iHeartRadio® radio on this great-sounding receiver. You can scroll through your stations, bookmark songs, and give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down right from the receiver's face.

One versatile USB port

The KDC-BT318U's front-panel USB port allows you to access and control the music stored on your iPhone or Android phone. And if you have MP3, WMA, or WAV music files on a thumb drive, the USB port can handle those too. Here's a cool feature from Kenwood — Drive Change allows you to connect a memory card reader or USB hub to the Kenwood's USB input and select music from up to five memory cards or USB flash drives.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Kenwood stereo. Connect a few wires, program the adapter for your car and this Kenwood, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Kenwood KDC-BT318U is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 2.1 + EDR) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Kenwood KDC-BT318U. Visit Kenwood's Support Site for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled phones.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) + Auto Pairing (for iPhone): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Kenwood KDC-BT318U without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When a paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the Kenwood head unit with a maximum of two Bluetooth phones and one Bluetooth audio player connected at one time (but only one can be used at a time). You can even pair your Apple iPhone by simply connecting it to the Kenwood head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the KDC-BT318U can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering a Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately or after 1-30 seconds. The KDC-BT318U also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
    • Dialing a Number: Using the KDC-BT318U, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's control knob or remote control.
      • Speed (Preset) Dialing: Allows you to register up to 6 phone numbers for quick dialing. The preset numbers can be accessed from the head unit's Control Knob.
      • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KDC-BT318U. Up to 600 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone. Each number can be up to 32 digits long and each name can be up to 50 characters long.  Stored phone numbers can be categorized by General, Home, Office, Mobile, or Other. You can search each category of the phone book in alphabetical order.
      • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls.
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

Note: The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the volume level and noise cancellation of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.505" (depth).

SMS: If your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone is compatible with SMS (Short Message Service), the Kenwood head unit will notify you when a message has been received. You must then use your phone to check the message. You cannot read, edit, or send a message through this unit.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Metadata Display): The Kenwood KDC-BT318U also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KDC-BT318U will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, Fast Forward/Rewind and Random/Repeat. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title. The KDC-BT318U also supports audio streaming of music apps downloaded on your smartphone with metadata display and limited control. Advanced music control of your music apps will still need be done via your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or 5/5C/5S via Bluetooth (not USB), the Kenwood KDC-BT318U has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press-and-hold down on the head unit's Answer Button to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the KDC-BT318U and its microphone. The head unit's display will only indicate hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Kenwood KDC-BT318U; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone 4S/5/5C/5S. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

The iHeartRadio music service provides access to more than 1,500 live radio stations from coast-to-coast (including pop, country, urban, rock, talk, and sports). The KDC-BT318U will provide control over the iHeartRadio Link app, as well as display station identification and song/artist information. From the head unit's front-panel controls, iHeartRadio stations can be searched by the following categories (Local, Genre, City, or My Stations). The Local selection provides a list of radio stations in your local listening area. The unit also provides over 22 Genres to choose from (including pop, country, hip-hop, jazz, etc.) to help you find the right radio station for you. In addition, you can search for radio stations by City. Cities can be searched alphabetically (A-Z). You can even store your favorite stations (My Stations) for easier, quicker access. An active iHeartRadio account is required.
Note: Access to these Internet Radio services will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android/Blackberry smartphone to connect to the Internet. Not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

    Audio Section

16 Bit D/A Converter: The Kenwood KDC-BT318U utilizes a 16-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality with a Signal to Noise ratio up to 105dB.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Kenwood KDC-BT318U is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KDC-BT318U are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels

2.5V/4CH Preamp Output: The KDC-BT318U is equipped with two pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front, Rear/SW). You can set the Rear/SW preamp outputs for connecting a pair of full-range rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When set for subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading.

Subwoofer Controls: The Kenwood KDC-BT318U offers the following subwoofer controls, when you have the unit's subwoofer preamp output activated.

    • Low Pass Filter: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Filter control for the preamp-output, when the output is set to Subwoofer. You can select from 85 Hz, 120 Hz, 160 Hz, or off.
    • Subwoofer Phase: You can adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).
    • Subwoofer Level: Once the Subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level (-15 to +15) from the CD receiver.

Speaker Settings: The Speaker Setting function tailors the head unit's audio settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Speaker Setting of 'SP-Off' (flat/off), 'SP-OEM' (for OEM factory speaker systems), 'SP-6x9/6' (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers), or 'SP-5/4' (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).

Preset EQ: Eight EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass, midrange, and treble . You can choose from the following preset EQ curves; Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, Drive EQ, or User. The Drive EQ mode is an EQ preset that helps reduce road noise. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's Bass (200Hz) , Midrange (2.5kHz), and Treble (12.5kHz) level from +/- 8dB.

Note: You can store bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, and Pandora/iHeart Radio).

Sound Enhancements: The head unit provides further sound enhancements for your car audio system.

    • Bass Boost: The Kenwood CD receiver features a Bass Boost control that can be set to the following levels (BB1, BB2, BB3, or Off).
    • Loudness: This function enhances low and high frequencies to make the sound clearer lower volumes. There are 3 levels (LV1, LV2, or Off).
    • Sound Reconstruction: When MP3 or WMA files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Sound Reconstruction function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When Sound Reconstruction is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.

Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0 (-8 to +8 for Aux source).

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The Kenwood KDC-BT318U features a single front loading CD face that detaches from the chassis to deter theft. There is no protective face case included. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Single-Line Display: The Kenwood head unit features a single-line, 13-segmented/13-character, white backlit LCD with blue button illumination.

Brightness & Dimmer: You can dim the LCD illumination to better suit the time of day. You can adjust the maximum brightness of the LCD illumination from 0-31. The button illumination and Kenwood logo does not dim.

12Hr/24Hr Clock: The head unit can be set to display a 12hr or 24hr clock. The unit also displays the day (Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, or Sat). With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit continues to display the clock and button illumination during Standby mode. Pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely.

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On or Off within the menu.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The KDC-BT318U comes with an IR remote control (RC-406) for wireless operation of the head unit. The remote will control Audio, CD, USB, and Tuner functions. It is powered by a single CR2025 3V lithium-cell battery (supplied).

    • Numeric Keypad: The wireless remote control features a numeric keypad (0-9) which allows direct track access of your music tracks & files (from CD or USB), as well as AM/FM presets.
    • Attenuator: The CD receiver features an Attenuator button on the supplied remote control that turns the volume down very quickly with one touch of the button.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Great unit for the money with a real volume knob. In this day and age of fancy things, the volume knob should always be a knob!
    Pros:

The only thing my daughter wish from this that i had spent a little more for the ability to change the display colors which is just cosmetic.

This radio sounds very good compare to my old Sony bt3900u. It fits my 2004 Camry very nice and the music clearly define from the bass, mid range, to the treble after you fine tune it.
    Pros:
good radio for the price, easy installation. My I phone 5s have no problem connecting to the radio blue tooth. It memorize it every time I get in the car. I like it, so I purchased another one for my truck.
    Cons:
The display is hard to see during day light. It does not display songs titles and artist with radio stations broadcast.

    Great Upgrade

Went from lowest end Kenwood to this model, so install was a breeze (same connector). I used a single bladed hacksaw (without the backbone) to cut the steel frame at the rear of the radio, so that the radio could sit properly and not protrude like the old one.
    Pros:
Great sound! The install adaptor worked great, provides for a flush mount so looks like a pro install.
    Cons:
A little difficult to see in daylight. Not from the white screen display, but because of the curved, polished lens cover and accompanying glare. Would be much better if manufacturers made the screen displays with flat lens displays. Tiny remote control is difficult to use with large hands.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced stock radio in a 2004 GMC Sierra and it works perfectly. Install kit and instructions from Crutchfield were spot on and easy to follow. No need to alter anything in the space where the radio goes. Radio is crisp and clear with plenty of power for a truck cab. Bluetooth connection to my iPhone is perfect. Easy to route the speaker wire under the dash and through the fuse panel. Mounted speaker on the dash next to the left front window pillar and the wire is hidden but about 1.5 inches. Picks up my voice no problem. Single CD is fine for me.
    Pros:
Perfect fit for my vehicle and a HUGE improvement over the stock GMC junk that passes for a radio. $140 for the radio, vehicle matched harness, and door chimes speaker is well worth the price.
    Cons:
Takes a bit to get used to the main volume knob NOT being the on/off switch. That switch is actually a tiny button to the left of the main knob.

    Easy and awesome upgrade

Written By Bob Mc, Shoreline area, CT on Monday, July 21, 2014

I was in Harrisonburg, VA visiting my daughter and happened upon the Crutchfield outlet store. I had avoided spending any money on myself for years, but was so amazed at the value of this model I couldn't resist. My truck is 11 years old, with 188K miles, and the interior is a bit noisy, so I didn't want to go wild with a top shelf system, although it was tempting. I love the ability to bypass my iPod's audio amp and play (and charge) through the one iPod/USB cable. Similarly, I now have the option of making playlists on USB keys and plugging directly in. The improvement over the factory sound quality surprised me. I want to highlight the Crutchfield adapter and installation kit, though. It was fantastic! Like I said, I was visiting in Virginia and was looking at a long ride back with another 8 hours of low quality audio. I wasn't thrilled. But I got an excellent explanation of the steps from my sales associate, who also reviewed the photos Crutchfield personnel have at their disposal (if you need to call them mid-installation they'll know EXACTLY what you are looking at in your vehicle). I had a small collection of tools with me, and I actually as able to change it in about an hour in the parking lot of the condo complex thanks to the kit's completeness and the overview. I was barely phased by July 3 traffic (it took 12 hours instead of 8) as I lost myself hearing things from my iPod like I'd never heard them before.
    Pros:
Clear audio. Vast improvement even though I did not yet upgrade factory speakers. Direct iPod play. Easy to read screen.
    Cons:
No simple On/Off power button. Cycle through audio inputs until you reach Standby. A few buttons are small and their functions are a little difficult to discern as you drive on a highway in a vehicle with stiff suspension.

I was very pleased with my purchase of the Kenwood Radio. It came quickly and I was able to put it in fairly easy. I don't do this that often but once I orientated myself it went together easy. I purchased for the radio and CD features. It has more features than a non-technical person uses or needs. I am sure that if I were younger and more interested in modern technology, it would be perfect for the price.
    Pros:
Looks nice in the place of the old unit that it replaced. Adequate sound and nice AM/FM radio and single CD player. Having a remote control is nice.
    Cons:
Could not connect this unit with the DVD player entertainment unit in the rear of the automobile.

    Everything as advertised

Written By GregM, Nashville, TN on Tuesday, July 15, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this radio into a 1985 Porsche... Took an hour to install including the time to remove the center console, slowly fixing the wiring mess from previous owners of this 29 year old car, and stopping a couple of times for refreshments. Bought it primarily for the built in bluetooth phone features. Worked flawlessly with my iphone - simple and effective. Pandora and other software features are nice but not important to me and likely will never use. Maybe 20 minutes to install if I hadn't fixed other things around the old wiring and dash components ...
    Pros:
Page 20 in the users manual is all you need for installation (wiring diagram of the radio's connector). Very simple install and initial configuration. Can't go wrong for the $$.... and quick shipment and the little extras (wiring connector and removal tool) thrown in at no cost, will bring me back to Crutchfield later for higher end radios for our other cars.
    Cons:
Crutchfield provided Porsche-specific install instructions were of very limited quality. "Copy of a copy of a copy" type of print quality but it wasn't needed for the installation purposes.

Well I placed a call to Crutchfield and put us on a 3 way call.after a few min talking to the rep,he realized that he put the microphone in the aux input.lol he should've read the instructions.she told me later on that she loved The sound and ease of use.this is my 5th stereo from Crutchfield. thanks guys.

This is a great mediocre Car stereo

I am currently using this stereo in my 2003 Pontiac grand am.
    Pros:
Hands free calling, great sound quality, adjustable eq. Kenwood is a great brand. I am using Kenwood spealers and amps for my car audio system. Kenwood focuses on sound quality compared to booms. So if you are looking for something that gives even your stock speakers good sound I suggest this stereo or any other Kenwood.
    Cons:
The one con is the remote sometime will not connect and you have to press the button twice.

    good unit

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good unit, some difficulty installing but tech team helped fix that quickly. Main complaint is no way to dim the blue accent lights on the left side at night. I'll probably mark over them with a sharpie to dim. The bluetooth audio is great but takes a few minutes to connect every time and it gets confused with multiple phones connected. Love the sound quality, love the front usb/aux input connectors, and I really love the Metra 99-8901 In-dash Receiver Kit for Subaru Outback it looks factory and adds a great storage area for phones. Be sure to order the Posi-products twist connectors it makes wiring much easier. The remote mic and hands-free phone works awesome.
    Pros:
nice unit, sounds good, BT audio is good, front usb/aux in great
    Cons:
inability to dim the blue button lights, takes a few minutes to connect BT audio to devices, gets confused with multiple devices connected.

    Great unit !

Nice unit. After my factory 6 CD player, AM-FM unit ate 3 of my favorite CD's, I did some review research on Crutchfield's website and chose this unit. I could've gotten it cheaper elsewhere, but Crutchfield threw in the wiring and install kit. Their excellent tech support was a big factor also. I ran into a wiring harness problem and Crutchfield walked me through it, at 7:30 in the evening ! Takes a little practice to get used to all the bells and whistles, but over all, a great unit. My friends toll me the Bluetooth sounds excellent. Wish the buttons on the unit were a little larger.
    Pros:
Great a Blutooth. Great Crutchfield tech support !
    Cons:
Wish buttons were larger and easier to read

Always loved Kenwood products and this is no exception. It was so easy to set up and use the blue tooth. I have a convertible and can still use the the hands free phone and haven't had any issues with people not hearing me clearly.
    Pros:
    Great sound ease of use
    Cons:
Can't read the display real easy because of sun glare but I usually have the top down but with the top up it's not as bad

Only had it for a bit but very nice head unit! I haven't hooked up thte microphone yet but I'm sure it works great. Bluetooth is great, the sound is very good, lots of music playback options, easy to use, bluetooth is easy to pair devices to. Have had good experiences with Kenwood CD receivers in the past, very good reliability.
    Pros:
-Kenwood -Clutchfield made installation easy in my 05 Impreza 2.5 RS
    Cons:
-Lots of menus to change settings but their are a lot of settings so... -USB cable for charging your phone, seems like you have to replug the phone back in every time after turning the ignition off.

    Good Receiver

Written By Josh, South lyon, mi on Wednesday, June 11, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Upon purchasing a new product, I always make sure to do the necessary research. This receiver was everything I was looking for. Sleek design, Bluetooth capable, and a CD player. I didn't want anything that stuck out too much, so the black finish was perfect.

Do note that once this thing is installed, and you are playing your music via Bluetooth, sound will only come out of the front speakers. It is the default setting. All you do to fix it is go to Bluetooth settings and change it to "all".

Overall this receiver is good for anyone who needs Bluetooth at an affordable price.
    Pros:
Sleek design, Bluetooth capability for music streaming and hands-free calling.
    Cons:
A bit of a lag between songs, only one display color(blue).

    Bang for Buck

Really, I would give this 4.5 stars. The install was easy in my 2003 F150 truck. No problem finding a place for the blue tooth mic. The bluetooth itself isn't great but it works. Some voice recognition errors can be frustrating. The cd, tuner, mp3 features all work great. I have not yet tried the pandora or iheartradio features. I'm a little concerned about data usage (I don't have unlimited data) so I don't use those options. One drawback is that since I go back and forth between tuner, cd and mp3 frequently the source cycling is a little tedious but not a big deal. So far so good.
    Pros:
Lots of features. Looks sharp. Easy install.
    Cons:
inconsistent bluetooth voice recognition somewhat burdensome source input cycling.

Great sound. Hands free calling. When someone calls your speakers take over and displays the contact on the display so you know who's calling. The microphone can be mounted anywhere with a six foot cord. Just an overall awesome receiver.

great product for a great price, it has so many features that I recommend to fully read the manual so you can appreciate all of the features it has, great bluetooth audio, still trying to figure out the best place for the michrophone since I drive a convertible and there is a lot of wind noise at high speed, but other than that no issues whatsoever, the install was super clean and easy with the included adapter, great buy fully recommend the product and the seller, great price and also very fast shipping and communication will definetely be buying anything audio related.
    Pros:
thing is the best bang for the buck a lot of features for great price
    Cons:
nothing big, but really recommend reading the manual for all the features and finding a good place for the microphone

    GREAT Deck!!!

Written By umina, Folsom, CA on Friday, March 28, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This deck is amazing. Quick easy install, good documentation, excellent sound quality, and great features!!

The speakers sound great, the bluetooth was easy to set up and works amazing. I used the included microphone, ran the wire through the headliner and mounted it near my rear view mirror, and made a few calls while I was driving. Even while going 60 on the freeway (lots of road noise) people said they could hear me loud and clear and had no idea I was using a car bluetooth system.

MP3 CD Folder navigation is easy (important for me), CD navigation is fast and responsive (no lag or annoyance when clicking the "previous track" button like some decks), and it plays scratched CD's easily. VERY happy!!

Also, the colors are great, build quality and menus are excellent! All default options and this thing rocked my world. I have experience with Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony aftermarket decks and this one is by far the best I've ever used - even compared to my more expensive Kenwoods from 3-4 years back. BUY IT!!

One thing that freaked me out though, is that by default it has only the front speakers enabled for the bluetooth audio streaming. NO clue why they did this, I thought for about 2 hours that my speakers weren't working until I turned on the tuner and they started working. There's an option (that took me a LONG time to find) in the bluetooth settings to enable the rear speakers during bluetooth audio streaming.

Over-all, the BEST budget bluetooth deck. 5 Stars!!!
    Pros:
Excellent Features Easy Install Good documentation No complaints
    Cons:
Bluetooth Audio streaming is set to Front Speakers only by default
