    great Deck for the money

I am replacing a old alpine CDA-7893. Now there is no comparison for build quality for that stereo. but they don't make em like that anymore. I bought this deck for its features. I have tested everything and it works flawlessly. BT is clear. switching from usb to cd to tuner satellite radio is quick plug a usb stick in and it auto switches to it and starts playing music. the display isn't obnoxiously bright like some of the other decks i have seen. kenwoods are one of the only manufactures that still make decks that have over 20 watts rms a channel. most only have 17-18 watts. the specs are very good. Some of the cheaper alpines of this price range doesn't have 6 pre outs for a 5 channel amp. this does.. one of the reasons i bought it for my amp.

I got mine from old stock brand new For how much you can get it for is worth the money.

Pros: Very Good looking deck. bunch of features that work very well. Sounds very good. deck is quick to eject cds and read them. quick to read usb sticks, bt is clear. cant say much more than great deck.

Cons: A pain to use at first... all the options are buried in the deck. you need to really learn how it runs and may refer to the instruction manual to figure stuff out. Not a bad thing but.. How many of us use those.

Easy install, sounds good, easy bluetooth connect, love that i can keep all my music on a flash drive, sometimes its difficult to hear with the bluetooth but thats also because my 03 Frontier is loud (road noise). Love the remote so i never have to be distracted from the road.

    Pros: Remote... Bluetooth... USB

Cons: When light hits the screen you cant see anything.

    BT645-U Hyundai Entourage

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This deck was installed in an '07 Hyundai Entourage and went in pretty well. The
provided gear was great and saved a ton of money that we spent instead on a
steering wheel control unit. All in all, things are solid. Bluetooth connectivity is
great. I was concerned about the internal microphone but it has proven to be more
than capable. iPod touch works well...not the shuffle however, but it's not the head
unit's fault. It does everything we need it to do. We like it.

Installation kit was great. Installed into a Saturn SL1. Bluetooth worked fine during the first test call from the driveway and then not again on any subsequent call. Spent time on the phone with a very helpful tech support person (an actual English speaking person!) running through some diagnostics - delete and recreate pairing, resetting head unit to factory defaults, etc. Unit would pair, but never operate properly rendering it useless for its purpose.
Side note: USB, .mp3s, tuner, etc. sounded great. Unit still fails its primary test.

I received this HU as a Christmas present. I was very excited as this was my
first HU. Installation was a snap with the supplied wiring harness. The whole
install only took about an hour with a sub-par soldering iron haha. One of the
great things about this HU is the subwoofer level and the subwoofer set. This
controls just an external sub, so you can still change the treble and bass
settings on your normal speakers. I also love the bluetooth feature, especially
    at that price!

The only two complaints I have would be that the display is a little difficult to see
when in direct sunlight, like mentioned before me, and another is that at times
when I use the iPod connection, it either takes a long time to "read" or at times
static will interrupt (like from the radio) and the music will just stop.

This is a wonderful HU, and I would definitely recommended this to anyone
who doesn't want to spend too much money on a HU but still wants great

This radio has good features and made my factory speakers sound awesome. Upon
installation of this plus some other items to complete my system I noticed my
factory speakers were Pioneer. It takes a quality product to drive a quality
speaker, and this radio does it well. The bluetooth feature also works well.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The only problems I have with this receiver are that when the sun shines on it,
you can't see anything, you can only get EITHER the clock OR the title/track of
mp3, radio station, etc. I'd like to be able to see the clock at all times, and
the other little problem is that, even though crutchfield said the unit fit in
my 02 cavalier, the decorative plate that surrounds the receiver and covers up
the metal behind it didn't fit. But other than these, I'm very satisfied with
    the receiver and it's functionality.

and the right size ratchet). Work awesome so fare (after a week about). Sound in

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After pouring over the reviews, I decided to take the plunge and have not been
disappointed. The unit sounds great, even with the factory speakers in my 2007 Matrix.
Syncs up with my iPhone every time I get in the car. Bluetooth is fantastic. Calls come in
clear & I've never had anyone complain on the other end about the way I sound. Music
from iPhone/iPod plays great, but audio books tend to loose their place after
    stopping...minor inconvenience.

Never installed a car stereo before, so I was more than a little nervous. Everything I
needed came from Crutchfield (except the wire crimping caps). Made a list of questions
before starting, called tech support, got right in, & got the answers I needed. Longest part
of the install was actually crimping the wires from the harness. Once that was done, took
about 10 minutes to install in Matrix. Had to go back in & crimp 2 more wires a few days
later due to poor am radio reception, but that took about 5 minutes. Now all works as it

I would do this again in a second & recommend to anyone looking at this unit.

I really like my purchase. The car stereo system is very nice and works great. It does a lot of cool things. My faves are using a flash drive for music verses an i-pod. I love that my phone comes through the speakers in the car. Since our new Governor changed the cell phone law. First offense is 500.00 ticket. Ouch! No worries now though. :-)

I took all the bits and pieces that they give you, and had it installed, no problem. Very easy purchase and experience. Thanks guys!

Bought this refurbished for my husband who specifically wanted the bluetooth and a
USB port. For the low cost, we've been totally impressed. I can only speak as having
been on the other end of phone calls...the bluetooth sound isn't perfect but much better
than many headset bluetooths that I've talked to people on.

Crutchfield's instructions made it easy to install. My husband was able to do it in a few
hours (at a leisurely pace with frequent beer breaks).

I have this installed in my Jeep TJ which spends most of its life Off Road.. The Bluetooth
works amazing.. Unlike my past stereos when I would turn the vehicle off and back on I
would have to re connect my phone.. This unit does it automatically when the power is back
on.. The USB works great with a memory stick and it reads just about anything you stick in
it.. No need to organize songs very well because it will read it.. The sound quality is just
fantastic and the bass and sub controls are top notch.. I highly recommended this as a
    great low budget unit..

I got this receiver for christmas, and its awesome. call quality is amazing and the
microphone picks up your voice without the need to run a external microphone. plus the gain
is adjustable for the mic., people have told me they don't know im talking through the stereo.
they just don't know anything's different. The only downfall is that you can't stream your
internet radio though your phone, through the radio. it doesn't support the correct bluetooth
profile for that. But, overall you can't beat this stereo, for the price and features. With
crutchfield's customer support and service you won't go wrong on buying this one.

    1995 Chevrolet Impala SS Installation

Written By SAH, Fairfax Station, VA on Friday, December 31, 2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was a snap using Crutchfield's installation gear. The installed unit sticks out
of the dash about 1" (the Crutchfield web site made that clear up front), but it all matches
the existing black plastic trim for a nice, clean, look. Sound quality is great, as are the
    features for the price.

Three minor notes: first, the unit sits kind of low in a '95 B-body and the top edge of the
display is a little hard to read because it's slightly covered up by "KENWOOD". Second,
there's no dimmer functionality to match what GM provided with their OEM head unit.
Third, it's going to take a while to go through the manual to figure out how everything
works. That's mostly a function of the limited amount of space on the face plate so I didn't
think it was worth subtracting a star.

    Love this Head unit!!!!!

I will make it short and sweet, I was given a $200 spending limit to pick out a CD player for my truck and at the time I got this. It was absolutely worth every dime! As usual Crutchfield made the installation incredibly simple and supplied me with all the needed wiring harnesses and mounting kit. I spent the time to solder my wiring harness to the adapter they supplied before I ever went near my truck. After removing 4 screws and a panel I installed the dash kit and the CD player sleeve, inserted the actual deck and plugged it in. Just like that I was done! It took me all of about 5 minutes. As soon as the CD player turned on I loved the look of the bright blue display. Navigating the menus was simple and straight forward, pairing the bluetooth with my phone could not have been easier! I made a test call to my wife and she said I was crystal clear on the phone and inside the truck the phone call was played through the speakers and sounded awesome. The sound quality was great and with the push of one button I could tweek the sound as I liked or choose an EQ setting that fit the music type I was playing. All around incredible CD player with tons of options and features and very easy to use! I love it!!

Excellent upgrade over my factory stereo.

Written By BrentD, Louisville, KY on Tuesday, October 12, 2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very satisfied with my purchase of this Kenwood receiver. This unit clearly has more power than my existing factory stereo, and I love the additional options the Kenwood unit provides (front USB/Ipod interface, built in Bluetooth). I also purchased a Kenwood HD radio receiver as an add-on, and I'm very pleased with how it's improved my over-the-air reception.

The only drawback for me on this unit is that the buttons are a little small for my fingers. However, the illuminated display matches well with the rest of my truck, and the sound quality (even with factory speakers) is a huge improvement.

Installation was a breeze. Take a minute to review the Crutchfield instructions and any wiring diagrams and you can easily install this unit yourself.

Seems like a Beta testing stereo

Written By Jordan N., Salem, NH on Saturday, September 25, 2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    First the good points:

    1. The sound is good and the kits provided by Cr. were awesome and instructions were just as good.

    2. The USB and Aux in are excellent to have as well.

    3. The Bluetooth phone works great in a half way quiet car. If you have the top down or your AC cranking you are going to have difficulties.

Now the bad. The features seem like they were only half way done with them.

    1. The button layout is very difficult to use. Very small and hard to feel your way accross.

    2. The BT functions only work with a limited amount of phones. I have a HTC Touch Pro that was very expensive just a year ago and all I can do is only recieve a phone call, not make one from the unit which is rediculous.

    3. This is where the Beta rating come in. The stereo "tries" to sync every time after your first use which prevents you from being able to make or receive a call for the 2 or 3 minutes it takes to time out.

    4. Doesn't use your phone book. It tries to copy it which is dumb.

    5. Media Player does not play over the BT. Not that big a deal because I use the USB port anyway, but it is a negative with other features like my turn by turn directions app

Written By DJB, APO Overseas on Wednesday, September 08, 2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this particular stereo because
    1) I prefer Kenwood products,
    2) I liked the idea of the blue tooth option with this one. I have bluetooth on my GPS unit, but i don't always have it turned on when i'm driving.
    3) I prefer the front USB connection to the rear connection for connecting my Ipod.
    4) I am currently living in Europe, and this unit has European tuning also for when i do want to listen to the radio.

The stereo has been installed now for approximately 3 weeks. Installation was finished within approximately 2 hours. It took that long because i had to splice the manufacturers (Kenwood) wiring harness to the one supplied by Crutchfield. The stereo is everything that i expected and more. Great sound. Navigating the controls however can be distracting while you are driving. I absolutely love the bluetooth feature, but the delay in restarting the music from my Ipod is a little excessive for my taste after a call is disconnected. Overall, i would have given this a score of 4.5 stars, but that is not an option for a rating so i chose 4 on tha scale of 1-5 because it is not a 5. I am completely satisfied with my purchase.

    Easy to Use & configure!

Written By Eric, Manchester, MD on Tuesday, September 07, 2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I found the system easy to install. The harness matched my previous (8yo) KDC-X579 receiver. The wiring was consistent. My Sirius radio system transitioned as well with no wiring changes.

It was easy to configure and the bluetooth feature is far more advanced (& much simpler) than the Sony MEX-BT3700U bluetooth system installed in my wifes car. I would highly recomend this product and encourage anyone with a Kenwood thinking about upgrading to bluetooth to stick with Kenwood and go with this receiver.

Kenwood didn't improve over the last model

Written By Michael, Akron, OH on Monday, September 06, 2010

I'm a big fan of Crutchfield, and when I needed a good cheap receiver, I was very happy with my simple, but good sounding Kenwood. So, I bought the last model this one replaced because
    1) they changed the HD radio adapter so it wouldn't fit my other Kenwood.
    2) For the bluetooth.
    3) for the USB.

I've gone through the reviews of all the other built in bluetooth receivers they make and it's the same reactions. Like me, even though I have a good phone, I sound like I'm in the space shuttle to people on the other end. I can hear them fine. This seems to be consistent again. Others love the bluetooth, mostly people who say they have blackberry's, so it does work, but you're taking a chance. Bad phone? Forget it. Also, you can't adjust the EQ at all while driving, or sitting. The music cuts out, so unlike the cheap unit, you have to set it and hope for the best. You can get used to the operation of the unit, but it's still a pain. It sounds good, but I wouldn't buy it again, (this unit, would if I saw better reviews). Will buy an EQ. instead. Forget the bluetooth, try one with an outside mic. Crutchfield should address Kenwood; way too many complaints about the main reason most bought it. I did see less complaints with more expensive units, but there were still complaints.

    Best stereo I ever returned

Written By Rodney, Helena, AL on Monday, August 09, 2010

Even with my factory speakers this unit sounded awesome form every source. There were several minor annoyances any of which could be written off to personal preference. This was my first stereo with a USB port and I can't imagine ever having one without it again. The deal breaker for me was the quality of the Bluetooth microphone. I didn't realize when I placed the order that the mic was integrated and there was no way to add an external. I could hear callers fine via the stereo speakers but they struggled to hear me. I drive a 2006 Tacoma with 17" wheels and there's a fair amount of ambient noise in the cab. I exchanged this unit for a JVC Arsenal with HD radio tuner. I still want Bluetooth in the truck but I'm skeptical of trying another one.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    Overall a great radio.
The volume knob, which controls everything is a bit touchy, but once everything is setup, you don't use it for too much except volume.
You only get Clock OR other displays, not both; not a big deal if you have an external clock. I like to see the MP3 titles, but I like to know what time it is.
The Bluetooth setup easily. My particular phone (Pantech P7000 Impact) keeps asking if I want to connect when I start the car--of course I want to connect. I had upgraded the firmware on the Kenwood and it stopped asking each time. I had a phone issue and removed the SIM and battery, now it keeps asking to connect again. Really a pain when you want to get in and go without pulling a phone out of your pocket. Most people think I sound like I'm talking in a barrel, but they can hear me so that's OK with me. An optional mic port would be nice on the back to run a decent mic.
The USB is great, I do wish it had a rear mounted plug so that I could run a cable behind the dash instead of having a thumb drive stick out of the front.
For the price of HD radio module, I guess I will never know what HD Radio is like.
I miss the Kenwood head units that had BBE processing built in. Luckily I have an old external BBE unit that still works.

    Just what I wanted

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After reading many reviews about this unit I decided to buy it and I got just what I wanted.
I suggest that you read the instruction manual that comes with it and after a couple of
times playing with it, I was able to figure most of the functions out. I can get to them
easily and am able to make the desired adjustments with out any issues. The Blue
Tooth works very good and I have only had a couple people say it was hard to hear me. I
have no problem with the display or getting the clock to stay.
The installation was a breeze and I can thank Crutchfield for that, they make it pretty idiot
proof. I installed it in a 2004 VUE in less than 2 hours. I would recommend this unit to
    anyone and Crutchfield.

Incredible head unit for the money

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an incredible head unit for the money. I installed this head unit today in a 2005
honda civic 4-door sedan. The installation was easier than i thought it would be.
Crutchfield sent the needed wiring harness and dash kit free of charge along with the
unit. It took me and buddy about 45 minutes to complete the job with a seamless look,
and this was the first time i had installed my own head unit. The blue-tooth feature
works exactly like i thought it would. It recognized by blackberry immediately and the
operation is extremely easy. This makes a completely hands-free operation possible. I
have already hooked up my ipod to the unit as well. There is no need to purchase the
optional Kenwood IPOD cable that is suggested. I hooked up the ipod with the regular
USB cord that comes with it, and there are no issues. The IPOD charges while
connected to the head unit, and the IPOD is easily controlled with the head unit. You just
hook the ipod into the USB and stash it into the dash while controlling the IPOD with the
head unit. The 22watts RMS per channel also made my factory speakers sound much
better than the stock radio did.
All in all i love this unit, and it is exactly what i thought it would be. GREAT!

    Pretty good...with some caveats

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, I am pleased. especially with crutch-field service. Installed in my 04 S60R; kept factory amp with a cable.

Good: inexpensive, easy to get up and running, great sound quality, hands-free works great (mic is excellent - whatever problems people are having they must have fixed), BT pairs automatically and quickly. iPod controls are intuitive and responsive.

Bad:audio options are buried and the one knob that controls volume is the same that you adjust levels - so you can't tweak real-time, you can't adjust outputs individually, and the display gets washed out by sun. Also, it lacks an HD tuner, which at this price should be included IMHO.

I've only had it for a few days and can't figure out how to turn off the internal amp, which matters to those with center factory speakers who want control; also, I can't stream bluetooth music from my iphone 3gs yet. i've looked it up - so if these things are deal breakers...or i may be ignorant...look elsewhere, I suppose. All headunits have a learning curve. I also did not realize the utility of a rear-mounted ipod interface until a few days into my purchase. But, it's nice to charge my gps off of the headunit.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good news, stock speakers and wires can sound "decent!" Unit has ample power to
play music at ear fatiguing levels and still keeps it coherent (albeit harsh of
course.) Sweet spot of med-loud vol (12~20 on the vol level) sounds much better
when compared to the stock unit. Installation: Requires patience and some
thinking because instructions aren't as complete as it should be. But, it is a
very reasonable project if you have adv-beg mechanical skills and the right
tools. I definitely had some lessons learned to be shared in the "Custom Install
Review" section. The install kits are excellent. The bezel/panel for the dash
matches perfectly with the original color and fit. As noted below, the unit is
made out of plastic and seems a little flimsy but for the short term, everything
seems to be solidly in place. Receiver: The unit looks awesome in the dash.
Important point; if you use the receiver to control your ipod, the best
suggestion is to use playlists. The single line display doesn't show enough
information for song tags so is very frustrating to search and browse. (NOTE:
This is a limitation for all ipod control units except for those with
multi-lines of text or with large screens.) If you want to browse/change tunes
frequently, just use the manual/direct ipod control function. You still get the
benefit of using the receivers DAC for the best sound quality. Customer service
is excellent and can't say enough. I would absolutely recommend to everyone to
    check out Crutchfield.

Oh yeah this Deck is so cool. Installed it in a 02 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab . The Blue
lights at night are very cool. Installation was easy with the wire diagram provided by
crutchfield. The Bluetooth is AWESOME. It took me a minute to figure out how to set it up,
but wow is it perfect. When a call comes through it automaticaly turns down the music,
and when the call is over it starts the music at the same volume, and at the same point
    were you left off.

    The HD tuner is fantastic

Written By lzuckett, Canton, MI on Wednesday, April 14, 2010

I just installed this unit last night in a 2003 PT Cruiser GT to basically get most of bluetooth functionality I had with a Ford lease vehicle with Sync. I also bought the HD radio add-on, but didn't really know alot about it. Boy was I surprised about the sound. It is just awesome! I haven't tried all the bluetooth capability with my phone yet, but the basic call/receive function works great and the person (so far) on the other end saids I sound very clear. The mic has an adjustable gain, but I didn't touch it. Just like the Ford sync functionality, the unit will mute the radio and generate a ring-tone over the car speakers when a call comes in. The caller-id will be displayed on the radio. All you do is tap the large button on the left of the unit to answer the phone. Very simple and allows you to keep your eyes on the road. I don't know if my phone supports it, but the unit supports PBAP (phone book access protocol) and allows your contacts and phone numbers to be uploaded to the unit. You then can just scroll through your contacts list on the radio and make the call without ever touching your phone. I still have to try this and see if my phone supports it, but will be great if it does. I did the installation myself and I had the dash plate removed and factory radio out in 5 minutes. The wiring harness was simple to connect; all you have to do is match colors with the supplied wiring harness adapter to colors on the radio.

The bluetooth connected up to my iPhone in about a minute and I was making calls. The iPod connection didn't recognize my old brick iPod but worked well with any modern iPod or iPhone. The Sirius connected up very quickly with no issues. I had this thing from box to working in about 2 hours. The longest time was spent on hiding my Sirius antenna thru the car, and soldering up the wiring harness. I really like the way Crutchfield gives you everything you need in the box and you just slap it in. Great product from a great company. I wouldn't buy a car stereo from anyone else.

I wasn't pleased as I was removing it from the box. It looks very cheap. It wasn't the easiest to use, and trying to use it during the daytime with a bit of sun on it was extremely tough--lousy display. The iPhone compatibility was decent, but it wasn't always working; sometimes I would receive an iPod Error message. Changing tracks was slow. Trying to dial a call from the unit was very difficult and there were many steps--steps that should be avoided for safety while driving! I wouldn't recommend this unit. For similar dollars, I'd fetch an Alpine--like the 103BT.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    1. Bluetooth is useless. It's so bad that nobody wants to talk to me so I have to switch to the phone - completely negating the safety of the feature
    2. Bluetooth does not connect automatically with the two different stereos programmed in my phone. I have to go into settings and connect manually each time. With just one stereo programmed it connects automatically.
    3. Bluetooth does not play music
    4. Pandora only works if I first play something off the iPod section of my phone, exit that (while it's still playing) then open Pandora
    5. You can not control the music when connected with USB from the phone - it MUST go from the deck which is a complete pain (this is true for the iPod and iPhone
    6. When connected to the iPod with USB and you turn your car off - it drains the iPod battery.
    7. When the iPod battery is dead but it's connected to USB it will repeatedly try to turn it on and switch from 'Tuner' to 'USB' mode, never letting it charge, putting it a repeated cycle of trying to turn on, but dying because the battery is completely depleated. I had to go home and charge it for a bit, then put it back in the car.
    8. The preset buttons on bottom for radio stations are so small I can hardly hit the right button.
    9. The voice recognition requires to many button presses before and after the voice command to make it convenient.

Both these units are being returned since I bought for the bluetooth and usb but neither are very functional.

    Love Kenwood products!

Written By Dave, Winston-Salem, NC on Thursday, February 18, 2010

I have Kenwoods in three of my seven cars...they always perform great and are very dependable. I like this new unit just fine, but Bluetooth is disappointing in 2 areas. Microphone is not sensitive enough (I have tried it in all adjustment modes) and people I talk to while using it complain that they can barely hear me and/ or there is a lot of static. Secondly, operating the controls while driving is very distracting...enough to be dangerous. Initial setup is very, very confusing (setting up voice command, etc). In contrast, the Bluetooth setup in my new Audi is far superior. This Kenwood has lots of features for a low price but the Bluetooth platform is marginal at best. You get what you pay for.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this HU mainly for the Bluetooth capabilities and am sorely disappointed. It will connect fine but then when you try to make a call it works about 1 our of 3 tries. Receiving calls seem to work. It may just be that I have an iPhone because I haven't tested any other phone. The callers complain about feedback or echoes and you can adjust the mic gain to help with that but the mic just doesn't seem to be that good. All other functions of the HU are great. iPod USB works great with my iPhone, the Audio adjustments are more than what I need for my factory speakers so I am pleased with that. I give it two stars just because the Bluetooth doesn't work that well. Other than that its a solid HU.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like is usually the case, the bluetooth is definitely not perfect (especially in a noisy Jeep Liberty) but still works well. Flawless connecting to iPhone and reading directly off of USB drive. Definitely worth the time to sit down in your vehicle with the manual and just read through and play with it. There are a lot of features that I have not even begun to use yet. Also plan on adding the satellite tuner at a later date. Installation with Crutchfiled's install kits was a breeze.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The unit features a single front loading CD face that detaches from the chassis to deter theft. The CD player comes supplied with a soft black fabric, draw string face case to protect the detachable face when you have it off the chassis.

Fluorescent Display: The Kenwood head unit features a 13-character white backlit fluorescent display with blue button illumination.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the unit is in Standby mode, the face/button illumination is "keyed." In addition, while the unit is in Standby mode, you can turn the clock display on or off. When the Clock Display is turned on and the unit is in Standby mode, the Clock Display is also "keyed." Pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely.

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned "on" or "off" within the menu.

    Audio Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The Kenwood KDC-BT645U is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KDC-BT645U are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels

Rotary Volume Control: The CD receiver uses a 3-way rotary volume control that increases and decreases the volume of the stereo from 0 to 35. The rotary knob also controls other audio settings such as Balance, Fader, Bass, Mid, Treble and preset EQ settings. In addition, the rotary knob allows you to scroll through and select your music tracks when the Music Search function is activated.

Speaker Settings: The Speaker Setting function tailors the System Q Sound Control settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Speaker Setting of "SP Off" (flat), "SP OEM" (for OEM factory speaker systems), "SP 6x9/6" (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers), or "SP 5/4" (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).

System Q Sound Control: Eight EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass (100Hz), midrange (1kHz), and treble (10kHz). You can choose from the following preset EQ curves - Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, User, and Game.

Bass/Treble/Mid Control: The KDC-BT645U also features independent Bass, Treble and Midrange control. You can adjust each one from -8 to +8db. The bass frequency is adjusted at 100 Hz, the treble frequency is adjusted at 10 kHz and the midrange frequency is adjusted at 1 kHz.

Bass Boost: The Kenwood CD receiver also features a Bass Boost control that can be set to the following levels - LV11, LV2 or Off.

Source Tone Memory: This feature allows you to store System Q bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, Tuner, Aux, and USB).

3-Sets of Preamp Outputs: The KDC-BT645U features front, rear and subwoofer preamp outputs. The front and rear speaker preamp outputs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The front, rear and subwoofer preamp outputs are all fixed to the rear chassis of the head unit. The subwoofer preamp output offers the following controls:

    • Low Pass Filter: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Filter control for the preamp-output when the output is set to Sub. You can select from 85Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz or Through (Off).
    • Subwoofer Phase: You can also adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).
    • Subwoofer Level: Once you have switched the preamp output to "subwoofer" you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level from the CD receiver. You select levels between -15 to +15.

Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to 0 (-8 to +8 for Aux source).

Tel Mute: The KDC-BT645U features a cell-phone mute wire (brown) in its harness that when hooked up to your car's phone system mute wire will automatically mute the receiver's audio signal when a call comes in.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The Kenwood KDC-BT645U features a built-in AM/FM tuner. You can choose one of three tuning modes: Auto 1 (seek tuning), Auto 2 (cycles through and tunes the selected band's preset stations only with each button press), or Manual.

Tuner Presets: The KDC-BT645U's tuner features 3 FM banks (1, 2, 3) and 1 AM bank for storing presets. The Kenwood KDC-BT645U offers two preset modes:

    • Normal: You can store 6 presets for each AM/FM bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Mix: You can store a mixture of 6 AM/FM presets for each AM/FM bank giving you a total of 24 AM/FM presets of any mixture.

Auto Memory Tuning: Not only does the CD receiver's tuner allow you manually enter your desired presets you can choose to have the unit automatically put stations with good reception in the memory banks automatically; this is a handy feature when traveling.

Direct Tuning: You can tune in a desired AM/FM radio station directly by entering the frequency number using the included remote control.

Mono Mode: This feature reduces the noise (static) when a stereo broadcast is received as monaural (for FM band only).

Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio receiver to this receiver:

    • SIRIUS Satellite Radio: To receive SIRIUS Satellite Radio, you can connect the optional SIRIUS Universal Vehicle Tuner (607SCC1) and the optional Kenwood Sirius Satellite Radio Interface (113KCASR50); package item number 700SIRKENW, or you can connect the optional KCA-SR50 Kenwood Sirius Satellite Radio Interface and the SiriusConnect vehicle docking kit (607SCVDOC1); package item number 700SIRPKEN, along with your compatible SIRIUS Dock & Play receiver.
    • XM Satellite Radio: To receive XM Satellite Radio connect the optional CNP2000UCA XM Tuner and the Kenwood CNPKEN1 adapter cable (700XMKEN2, sold separately).

Note: A subscription is also required to receive satellite radio programming from SIRIUS or XM.

HD Radio Ready (with iTunes Tagging): With an optional Kenwood HD Radio tuner (113HR300, sold separately), you will be able to receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. This new technology will significantly improve audio quality and reception, as well as include information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. The Kenwood KTC-HR300 HD Radio tuner is also capable of iTunes tagging. iTunes tagging gives you the ability to tag a song (up to 50) and stores it to a connected iPod. The next time your iPod is connected to iTunes, the tagged songs are displayed with the option to purchase them from the iTunes Store.

Note: You will need the Kenwood KCA-S220A Dual-Source Switching Unit (113KCAS220, sold separately) to connect both a Satellite Radio Tuner and HD Radio Tuner to this headunit.

    Disc Playback

MP3/WMA/AAC Playback: The KDC-BT645U can play MP3 (8-320 kbps), WMA (32-192 kbps), and AAC (8-320 kbps) files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo, and Long file name formats. Each disc should have a maximum of 8 directory levels, 50 folders, and 255 files per folder with a maximum of 512 files and folders. During MP3/WMA/AAC playback, the unit displays recorded ID3 Tag (Ver.1/2.2/2.3/2.4) information. The head unit will display up to 60 characters.

Note: AAC ID3 Tag information cannot be displayed.

Supreme Setting: When MP3 or WMA files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Supreme Setting function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When the Supreme Setting is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.

Text Scroll: The KDC-BT645U will display CD text or Audio file text. You can set the text scrolling feature to two different modes (Auto or Manual) to scroll longer titles across the screen.

Music Search: The Kenwood AM/FM CD receiver features a Music Search feature which allows you to scroll through and select your MP3/WMA/AAC music folders and files, as well as scroll through your audio CD's music tracks using the head unit's rotary knob.

Direct Music Search: The supplied IR wireless remote control (RC-405) allows you to search for music directly by entering the track number.

Last Position Memory: If the unit is shut off or switched to the tuner mode while a CD is playing, the next time CD is selected as the source, playback will resume from the point where it left off.

CD Read: This function sets the method for reading a CD disc. You can choose between two modes:

    • CD1: Automatically distinguishes between audio file disc and music CD when playing a CD, CD-R/RW disc.
    • CD2: When unable to play a special formatted CD, set this function to CD2 to force playing. Some music CD discs may be unplayable even when set to this mode.

Off Eject: The KDC-BT645U allows you to eject your disc for 10 minutes after switching off the vehicles engine.

Note: The unit will not allow you to load a CD while is powered off. The unit must be On or in Standby mode to load a disc.

    Aux/USB/iPod Connection

USB Port: The Kenwood KDC-BT645U features a front panel Full-Speed (Max. 12Mbps) 2.0 USB type-A port that is hidden behind a sliding cover. The USB port enables connection and control of a portable USB mass-storage class device with MP3 (8-320 kbps), WMA (32-192 kbps), and AAC (8-320 kbps) music files.
