6x8 2-way speakers

Upgrade on a budget

So, you're finally ready to do something about your ragged factory speakers. The beauty of Kenwood's Sport Series speakers is that you can seriously improve your sound without breaking the bank.

Sweet sound

The KFC-C6865S 6"x8" 2-way speakers feature polypropylene cones that will enrich your music with all the midbass and midrange details, while the 1" balanced-dome tweeters will make high notes soar. Kenwood also includes sharp-looking grilles in case you're doing a custom installation in your vehicle. Finally, you can enjoy your music the way it was meant to be heard, with clarity and emotion.

  • 6"x8" 2-way speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer with 1" balanced dome tweeter
  • grilles included
  • power range: 2-30 watts RMS (250 watts peak power)
  • impedance: 4 ohms
  • frequency response: 35-22,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 92 dB
  • top-mount depth: 2-5/16"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Cheap sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Cheap sound. Highs are not great and the mid-range sound where you here voices are muffled and compromised by the the strained bass from the woofer. I would say amplify this speaker with the maximum amount of specified wattage and use filters because i am sure running the speaker as a full range speaker will produce some distortion.

Pros: not costly and it is a direct mazda factory fit

Cons: the factory speaker produced a better sound (Highs, mid-ranges, lows) than the kenwood aftermarkets - should have went with my first mind and purchased the Polk Audio

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They came with connector wires all nice and put together "awesome" I thought and after installing them and only getting one side working I found the problem being with that wire connector not holding the wire tight. So I thought I would take it off but the bridge where it connects is so tiny it was bending pulling the connector off, and about to break. Once working, they sound about like a really loud cell phone speaker. But I did have some 7 year old Fosgate Power series I was comparing to and the one working one sounds better than these. Crutchfield should consider not selling these any longer, it's a waste of time and effort. A cheap speaker that sounds terrible is worth being proud of because it was so cheap, but a more expensive one has traditionally got a slightly better sounding speaker.

Pros: Fits in factory position

Cons: Sounds like $20 for a lot more money.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers replaced factory speakers in a 2010 Ford Ranger truck. I added a new Kenwood head unit to the truck at the same time and the sound upgrade was unbelievable. My original intent was to add additional functionality to the truck stereo (bluetooth, Sirius) but the new speakers really added punch to the system. Plan on using the same speakers when I upgrade my Jeep.

Pros: Ease of installation (thanks to Crutchfield adapters) Sound quality Price

Cons: None

2002 Ford F-250 Super Duty
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

By far this is no incredible speaker. It struggles with lows, as any oval speaker will, but the mids and highs are pretty crisp. I put these in my '02 F250 Crew Cab and they fit perfectly. Did a really good job of spiffing up the sound to a 12 year old vehicle. Next up is a single sub and we should have great sound!

Pros: Inexpensive, mids and highs are crispy

Cons: Lows are lacking

Don't bother

Written by: Glenn W from SE WI on April 13, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Kenwood really phoned it in on this one. Just going from a single cone to a coaxial should have been more of an improvement than this. Ford did a better job on the OEM than KW did on these. Bought 2 pair and put in the rear door ones first, doubt if I'll bother putting the front pair in. I'll get better sound from a pair of Polk DB521/DXi525 5¼" ones with adapters than what these produce. Crutchfield would be better off not selling these so they won't be disappointing folks that would've gotten something else from them instead.

Pros: They fit.

Cons: "For the money" let's them off easy. If you're going to go through the effort of pulling body panels to upgrade your speakers, your ride deserves better than these.

Great overall sound

Written by: Patrick from State Center, IA on April 6, 2014

First, these sound great for what they are. Particularly, the highs are crisp and the tweeters have held up nicely over periods of long use. As with any 5x7 or 6x8 setup, you are not going to get amazing lows, as expected, but mid-level bass with these is somewhat punchy and clear. They sounded good with the factory head unit... After I paired them with a new Kenwood unit from Crutchfield, they sound much better. Mid and high-range sounds are clear and can take ever watt of volume put at them without distorting from the 22 watts RMS from the Kenwood head unit. Interestingly, mine came with adjustable/directional tweeter domes. Not sure if this was a change in the model or what (part number is the same) but they sound great. The wiring harnesses from Crutchfield are not necessary, but are a nice bonus to anyone unfamilier with speaker install or weak electrical background. I would definitely buy these again.

Pros: Crisp highs, highs do not distort at high volume, overall great sound for this size.

Cons: None

Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" PEI balanced dome tweeter. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter. PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

Mounting Applications: Kenwood describes this speaker as a 6x8, but it also fits many 5x7 applications. Please check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

Less than hoped for [ BRUCE  Sep 09, 2014 ]
Hi, It's not bad, but I have a convertible and I'm just listening to rock music. I have not complaints though. I don't have an amplifier hooked up to it either. Hope that helps. [ MICHAEL P.  Sep 07, 2014 ]
No, they don't have a good amount of anything the six stock single cone speakers in my E350 van sounded better. These were so horrible I sent the second pair back after installing the first pair in the back doors. No 6 x 8 will deliver truly good base, but these couldn't deliver anything decent. I ended up going with a pair of Pioneer TS-D6802R for the middle pair (very clean highs & midrange, average bass) and a pair of Kenwood KFC-X683C up front (similar sound, not quite as clean) I left the pair of KFC-C6865S in the back doors because it's an 11 passenger van and they can't insult my ears from way back there ;) [ GLENN  Sep 05, 2014 ]
I'd say the bass response is well within what I would expect from a 6x8" speaker. [ DAVID  Sep 05, 2014 ]
Better than most in their price range but nothing earthshaking. They were a nice improvement over what I did have, an off brand and I was looking for better balance rather than bass. [ David  Sep 05, 2014 ]
