Our take on the Kenwood DDX470

Kenwood's DDX470 raises the bar for in-dash DVD receivers, offering compatibility with many iPhone® apps, comprehensive iPod® controls, and built-in Bluetooth®. Its bright 6.1" touchscreen and simple menu interface make it easy to use, so you can spend your time enjoying its many features and less time reading the manual.

Well-equipped for your digital lifestyle

Kenwood's DDX470 raises the bar for in-dash DVD receivers, offering compatibility with many iPhone® apps, comprehensive iPod® controls, and built-in Bluetooth®. Its bright 6.1" touchscreen and simple menu interface make it easy to use, so you can spend your time enjoying its many features and less time reading the manual.

Easy Bluetooth pairing with your iPhone

The DDX470 features Apple Auto Pairing — when you connect your iPhone to the receiver's USB port, the DDX470 automatically recognizes the phone and sends a pairing request to it. You simply press a button on the DDX470's touchscreen and your iPhone is paired. You can pair any other mobile device to this Kenwood through the Bluetooth connection, and enjoy hands-free phone calls and audio streaming of your music.

App control

The DDX470 offers fingertip control over your Pandora® Internet radio stations when your smartphone's connected, while  Kenwood's iPhone App Mode lets you stream video content from sources like Netflix and YouTube when your car's parked. Another big plus — if you've got Garmin's impressive Street Pilot app loaded, you can display maps and directions on the receiver's screen, so you can stay on course during your travels.

Play your music and videos

When your iPod's connected, you can view album art and browse through your playlists with a few swipes of your finger. Of course, the DDX470 plays all your CDs, DVDs, and recordable discs, plus you can plug a thumb drive loaded with hours of music into the receiver's USB input. This Kenwood also gives you a rear input for your A/V sources. And if you think that radio has "jumped the shark," add a SiriusXM tuner to this Kenwood and find out how entertaining satellite radio can be.

You can watch your favorite DVDs or iPod video on the built-in screen whenever you're parked. But if you're traveling, you can entertain your back seat passengers while you drive — just set them up with an external screen and wireless headphones and they can watch video content while you drive.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Kenwood stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and this Kenwood, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Note: Bluetooth compatibility with this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility.

Perfect Radio, survived totaled truck via wreck!

    Zachary from Alabama on 9/30/2016

I purchased this Kenwood for my first truck and had it professionally installed and had a few "issues" with it starting out but they ended up all being caused by my failure to read the manual fully before using it. I had an issue firstly with my bluetooth not playing through all my speakers/subs/tweeter horns, well i found that in the audio or the input section of settings when you go into your bluetooth tab it does not appear to be more than 1 page but in fact it is and on that second page is the option to switch between all or front only. Second problem was my iphone would only connect and play songs via blue tooth. Meaning the installed Pandora and Ipod functions would not function at all, well when i went through the settings again after enabling stand by mode and going to settings then Input you must change it to AV-in2 not Ipod, that will enable the Iphone to communicate via the usb plug and charger, without the settings applied correctly the HeadUnit searches for an Ipod input to play off of but anything over an iphone 4 i believe does not read the same way and is not classed as an Ipod. After tuning my EQ and working out the kinks i used it for over 2 years solid without any issues at all. I recently totaled that truck and before insurance took her away i stripped all aftermarket items and later installed this radio into my new truck and 5 months later i still have had no isues from the radio. BEST radio ive ever purchased, Kenwood has my vouche for life. - Zachary R

Pros: Tons of options to play with, Every feature you could ever want, Clean look, Nice Color/display adjustment options, Durable, Great Audio and Video quality, Buttons are not made poorly (after 3 years of use you can not see any wear other than 2 small finger nail scratches on the screen). Love the Ability to have a USB drive, a phone wired, a phone via BT, a CD, and a Ipod all connected at once Weak Mic led me to splice a second mic into the the first ones lines for better picku

Cons: Little Slower than i'd like when changing Media forms. Often slow or even failing completely to connect Bluetooth devices when vehicle turned back on. Max volume with max volume offset applied is still too low, makes it difficult to entertain outdoors at a party or bonfire or other outdoor events. The stock Microphone seems to be on the weaker side for picking up your voice. Had to splice lines and add in a second Mic so it could hear me over my vehicle when on road

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall glad I made the purchase, sounds great , much better than stock unit in my BMW . It only took a few days to get all the features down , not too complex. Install is complex though , lots of wiring and routing of wires. Not a quick or simple job in a e39 body but well worth the 10 hours or so to complete the job. I added the rear view camera and wow what a nice feature. Music streaming via Bluetooth includes play, pause, and track forward for Slacker and others on head unit , although no artist info. The Pandora does work well and gives artist , song and other info and gives station info and other choices as well but took a bit to get to work. Did not work at first , I had to do firmware update and still took a bit of digging to enable but wow is it nice now that it works , just get in car and it starts playing without ever taking phone out of my pocket . Also phone features work well and voice dial is sweet feature I am using more and more. Overall very pleased with purchase.

Pros: Lots of options , home screen app options , (limited but doable) Great phone functions, and super sound with outstanding Bluetooth music support.

Cons: Pandora function difficult to enable , some wiring is able to be disconnected completely via a connector to install and remove but some is hardwired to unit so difficult to handle while installing.

    Great unit

    JustinR from Maine on 4/23/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit refurbished. I typically purchase refurbished electronics and have great luck with them. The face of this unit did have more wear then other refurnished units that I've purchased (small scratches and blemishes), but for the price I can't complain. Installation was easy and the setup menu is very intuitive with the touchscreen. I really like how much you can customize this unit by adjusting the button colors and changing the background image. One complaint that I have is that reading music from the USB input is extremely slow. It takes a good minute to first load all of the music folders. Once loaded it is pretty quick, but every time you turn the car off and back on you have to wait for the unit to read the usb contents.

Pros: ease of use, many different music sources, sound quality.

Cons: slow usb read, slow initial bluetooth connection

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall a solid unit "for the price". Has many features that you find in more expensive models. These features are included in this unit but at price. The overall performance of this device is lacking greatly. Boot up time, disc read, mp3 load time and Bluetooth are all slower than most models and can be very annoying especially the Pandora and Bluetooth sync. Biggest problem is that the sound level is terrible. There is a volume offset you can adjust and even with that all the way up sound levels are still about 50% less than my stock Bose system. It also lacks a convenient dimmer for the screen, sd card reader and does not read mp4 files. I will be returning this for another more up to date model.

Pros: Good amount of features for the price. Volume knob.

Cons: Slow sync with Bluetooth, Pandora, etc. No sd reader. Poor volume performance. No convenient screen dimmer. Lots of features but they all just kinda work okay. Better off buying more expensive model or sacrifice ing some features for better performance of less features.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, I like the receiver unit, it is simple to operate and the interface but can be somewhat non-intuitive to customize and change settings. The biggest problem I have experienced is that this unit, when an iPhone/ITouch is connected via the iPod cable, will display the song title on the screen and "appear" to be playing the song, but no sound actually comes through the unit. Have tried multiple iPhones and iPods. The Bluetooth works well, however the connection to bluetooth devices is extraordinarily slow (+30 seconds)

Pros: Decent sound quality without amp, touch screen, fairly easy to operate, customizable interface.

Cons: Won't play iPhone's/iPod's via iPhone cable, Connecting a previously paired bluetooth device is extraordinarily slow (+30 seconds).

Great radio. All the qualities you could expect from Kenwood. The only drawback is the bluetooth. When you play music it only playes thru your front speakers.

Pros: Great sound and quality of product

Cons: Front speaker only when media is played thru bluetooth.

Installed into 08 Toyota 4Runner Urban Runner. Took my time splicing a web of wires which paid off, because as soon as it was powered up it worked flawlessly. The web of wires was not from the Kenwood harness. The urban runner itself has many wires which I had to match up. Once again take your time and map them out.

Pros: Additional aux. hookups and options Great sound quality

Cons: Cannot make new stations in pandora mode by typing in.

Touch screen is great to say the least user friendly, Bluetooth works amazing

Pros: Great sound, easy to install minus all the add-ons that I had install for steering wheel controls, Siriusxm, and door chime. All of that took up ALOT of room.

Cons: Still trying to figure a few things out the menu isn't setup very well have to push a lot of buttons to get where you want to go. However once everything is setup shouldn't need to do that anymore.

Replaced the malfunctioning head unit in my Mustang. I am very impressed the unit so far. It has all the features I was looking for at a very reasonable cost and it easy (and fun) to use. I would highly reccomend.

Pros: Easy to use, touch controls are sensitive, graphics are large and easy to see even with glance while driving and the sound is great. The blue tooth works exceptionaly well. The adjustable lillumination works well with similar Ford My Color system.

Cons: The supplied mounting brackets are a bit under designed and I had to fab the rear bracket but it did fit well after a some trial and error on the adjustments.

    2007 Honda Odyssey
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I found it really bizarre how difficult it was to get the basic functionality that I wanted in a new head unit without spending over $1000. This unit was a good compromise, but didn't have all the requirements: - Bluetooth Hands-Free phone (yes) - Connect to a Non-Apple device for music (yes, but the bluetooth connection and control is slow) - 2 Video out for headrest monitors (Not really) - HD Radio (NO! Hello 2013!! Who listens to the regular radio) - Dual-Tuner for simultaneous video and radio use (yes. amazingly, not in every unit) All in all it works well and looks really good in our 2007 Honda Odyssey (Note: Odyssey can't have a flip down unit). The completeness of the installation kit even amazed me. It kept on giving. The A/V connections are odd. Who needs 2 inputs? I had to split the one RCA output to run to the headrest monitors which worried me about video and sound quality with the split of the splits, but it isn't bad. A good affordable choice to replace a basic OEM product and provide entertainment for the kids (headrest monitors not included). I purchased headrest monitors so the kids can watch the same DVD from the head unit or separate digital movies off a pen drive. I only give it 4 stars because I don't really have anything to compare it to. I have to assume there is better, but it worked for my needs above.

Pros: - Installation kit. Solid. (and the kids loved playing with the packing peanuts) - Looks sharp and clean installed - Pretty simple installation, even for a novice - Value for the money

Cons: - 2 A/V Inputs, 1 A/V output - just plain weird considering it has a DVD player.... - USB does not play movies, only music files - Instruction manual is a little lacking - Installation bracket support made me a bit nervous. I shoved some foam under the head unit to help hold it in place and displace the amount of force on the mounting screens, which had already started cracking the plastic before I was even finished the install.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The main reason for the radio upgrade from my factory radio was that I wasn't happy with the way my factory radio sounded. This radio was big noticeable improvement. It also offered bluetooth capability which allows me to use my phone hands free. I also wanted to retain my steering wheel controls and rear seat entertainment system. This radio allowed me to do so by buying the PAC RP4-FD11 Factory Integration Adapter Buying everything from Crutchfield made the installation easy. They told me everything I needed and made sure everything will work with my vehicle.

Pros: Sounds great, Bluetooth, Sirius, iPod control.

Cons: The one thing I don't like is that whenever I go to lower the volume I usually hit one of the preset buttons and change my station.

No issues at all with this radio, fits like a glove and has better reception than the stock radio. I did not have to make any modifications of my dash, while the fit is tight, as long as the cables in the back are well positioned, it fits without modifications. I would love to see more options, like being able to mute the phone or choose what data is displayed in the tuner, instead of 3 lines all cutoff.

Pros: Great sound, easy install, great features, great sound from my connected iPhone though bluetooth (music and handsfree).

Cons: Interface is a little simplistic, not customizable.

The unit was picked up on sale from Crutchfield. The unit's dvd picture is very clear and there is no sign of skipping or abrupt stopping. Kids love it.

Pros: Picture quality, DVD player and the Bluetooth operation works great with the iPhone 4S.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This DDX470 is installed in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler with the Alpine stereo system. I really wanted a better head unit since I got the Alpine system but with the basic/non blue tooth head unit. Since its almost mandatory to have blue tooth I decided to switch it out for the ken wood deck. So far its amazing-get he PAC harness that allows you to keep your steering shell controls and the factory amp. It makes the install 1000 times easier. Its basically a few wires to connect and plug and play. The best thing about all of this is the Crutchfield TEAM-they crushed my expectations! I love the stereo/their service and the fact they really helped me through the install. They have never let me down and I know I can trust the team over there! THey really helped me out on this install-knowledge and flexibility was great! Thank you!

    2012 Subaru Impreza
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radio is very lacking. I bought it for my 2012 Subaru Impreza because the stock radio was pretty bad. The radio does indeed make the stock speakers sound better than the stock radio did. I'm an audio guy, and the EQ settings of the radio are great. Using the radio, however, is another story. The two main ways I use the radio are through the aux input, and bluetooth through my phone. In both of those respects, this radio fails. The bluetooth is horribly unreliable to connect. I often have to go into the menus and delete the phone, and try several times to reconnect it. That's with my Galaxy S4, and the same issue with my girlfriend's S3. I have many bluetooth speakers, and also a 2012 VW that never has a single issue with connecting to bluetooth. This DDX470, however, has issues almost every time. The aux input, too, is a bad setup. The aux input jack runs through the radio's "in2" line, which is the line used for the backup cam. So everytime you switch to that input, there's a big blue screen that you'll want to exit out of by hitting the Menu button. Not a horrible inconvenience, but still an unwelcome oversight. All in all, the radio has potential, but there are big oversights into how easy it is to navigate. It's for a car - it should be very simple, not complex. The new VW radios are a great example of powerful yet simple touchscreen radios.

Pros: -EQ adjustment abilities -Lots of input options -Has built-in EQs and settings for different types of speakers

Cons: -Scrolling is lackluster. A knob would have been nice, rather than a very small button to scroll up or down on the screen -Bluetooth is very unreliable -Tuner sometimes cuts out for no reason -Text on screen during FM is overwhelming and uninformative -Aux input setup isn't convenient

I wanted to upgrade the sound in my Shelby with Shaker 1000 system. This Kenwood is perfect and sounds great, a significant upgrade. I like the volume knob as the car rides a little harsh and a touch screen volume wouldn't work with this car. the instructions are not very intuitive, but as usual, Crutchfield tech support is excellent.

    Pros: Looks great, works well.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was a great upgrade for two aging factory head units in a 2005 Yukon SLE and a subpar unit in a 2013 Wrangler 2-dr Sport. I'd buy again for sure. The ONLY real issue with this and the other Kenwood decks is that none of them support the iPhone past the 4/4S. Pioneer is apparently the only vendor to do so. While you can stream audio over bluetooth (see cons), aux in or USB, the only embedded app (Pandora) is useless. Also, the inability to play video from an iPhone 5/5s is also extremely annoying.

Pros: Great touch screen in full light Decent amount of inputs Updatable firmware (via USB and you'll need it)

Cons: - No support for the iPhone past the 4S...... That means no app control, video, etc. - The only app that can be controlled via the head unit is Pandora (only on iPhone 4S and below) - Bluetooth functionality is terrible until you update the firmware (takes about 30 minutes), but is ok after - Bluetooth audio is set by default to only play through the front speakers. This was quite disturbing until I found the setting in Setup>System>Bluetooth>(scroll down past the first screen)> Audio.

this is the first time i had after market double din in my car. at first i thought its just a waste of money. well im wrong, kenwood ddx470 improves my car sound quality, i can use my iphone to call, text, play pandora and itunes radio with the comfort of using bluetooth. i can also digitally set up my subwoofer. i also installed rear camera which is amzazing, especially if theres snow in your rear window and you cant see anything. i wish i had this long time ago. thats why i started to ask myself where have u been all my life!

Pros: easy to use, improves sound quality, i can use telephone hands free, blueetooth connection, apple device compatability

Cons: usb cable for ipod should be included and free in the package.

Installing was a breeze, sound quality is way superior than the OEM radio. Bluetooth works flawlessly. Easy to match the color illumination of your dashboard for a perfect integration. It was a bit too bright at night but you can adjust that easily too. Im just missing the 5 band EQ, highway sound and crossover slopes but anyway, this Kenwood fulfills my very picky audio taste.

Pros: Access to all possible audio sources, even to GPS/navigation screen from the Iphone4/4S, reverse camera input.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had great success with the DDX470. Been using it for several months now in my 07 Toyota 4-Runner and have very few complaints. I do sometimes get some feedback when using my iPhone 4 through the bluetooth and occasionally the display does not match what it actually playing when listening to music through my iPhone but other than that it works great. I had a few problems during installation that turned out to be settings on the DDX470 and Crutchfield support was excellent in helping me figure it out.

Pros: Great product at a good value. Crutchfield support was excellent

Cons: Installation in my 07 4-Runner was easy except for tying into the parking brake light so the DVD function would work properly. IMPORTANT NOTE: If connecting a steering wheel control module make sure the external remote setting on the DDX470 is turned ON. Knowing this would have saved me a lot of time and grief.

Very good unit for the money. I installed this in my 99 Lightning. I had installed a Sony XNV 770BT in my GTO which I find to be a better overall unit than the Kenwood, but due to the NAV is twice as much. Sound quality of the Sony with factory GM speakers is far superior to the Kenwood's with Fosgate 6x8's. I would say the sound is only marginally better than the 14 year old Ford factory unit. The Sony comes with an IPOD connector + USB connectors, where as the Kenwood requires purchase of dedicated cable for. Which has been ordered so I don't know how it will work with the cable. But without it turns on and shows it playing but I have no sound. Bluetooth is easy to use. And it immediately downloaded my phone book. HTC smartphone.

Pros: easy to set up bluetooth. Screens look good.

Cons: Sound is not as good as other units. Requires seperate Ipod connector to work at additional cost.

Easy to install, thanks to Crutchfield instructions and support line. Slightly mis-leading,"offering compatibility with many iPhone® apps, comprehensive iPod® controls, and built-in Bluetooth®. " there is a feature to receive notification (chime and on screen) for text messages - Does NOT work w/iPhone called Kenwood, their claim was Apple restricts this yet the Pebble watch can actually display the text. Also Blue Tooth Streaming (or hard wire) of Pandora, iPhone not compatible? Why? And "if you've got Garmin's impressive Street Pilot app loaded, you can display maps and directions on the receiver's screen, so you can stay on course during your travels." Well that app is $49.99, that in its self is ok what they don't tell you is you also need Vehicle Display Integration an additional $49.99 ...

Pros: Sounds great, perfect picture, easy blue tooth pairing, simple easy installation and easy to use.

    Cons: See review above.

I was bummed with this product due to the lack of interface options. I purchased the Iphone cable which is great but we also have a droid phone and the only way to hook up is bluetooth which doesn't work nearly as well as other kenwood receivers. I purchased a second usb port that i was going to install in the dash but there arent' any extra slots after the bluetooth mic and iphone cable were installed. There isn't even room to install a second aux cable for quick connecting. Bottom line if they aren't going to offer any of these options, at least make the blue tooth integration seamless. It takes a few minutes for it to recognize my phone, and god forbid my droid and my wifes iphone in the car together; its just a crap shoot which one will sync first. It's a fine system aside from those minor inconveniences.

    Pros: Looks and sound great

Cons: Need more rear usb/aux inputs. poor bluetooth syncing

We did have a trouble figuring out the bluetooth sync and still haven't figured out how to add another phone to it and both work but that's what the manual is for. Though unintended, I matched this head with a set of Kenwood 6x9 and 6-3/4" speakers, Clarion XC1410 amp, SiriusXM radio, Kenwood iPod cable and all the other hardware needed to adapt to the factory wiring. After reviewing the order with Bryce at Crutchfield the order was placed. Free three day delivery to California is impressive. The system was installed over the Labor Day weekend and it was very nice being able to get a hold of Crutchfield on Monday to answer some wiring questions The system sounds very good and is pleasant to use. You do need to learn the system software in order to navigate and adjust the Kenwood head. Having hands free Bluetooth is fantastic, works and sounds just fine. Having SiriusXM is nice too. Though not purchased for the video capability, my wife is really starting to like having it since she can watch her iPhone videos, DVD's etc. while she waits in her car. Two issues though; occasional communication/control issue with my Wife's iPhone 4S (no problem with my iPhone4) through the Kenwood cable and wish the FM reception were better. The factory radio had much better FM reception. She really loves the SiriusXM, saved me from dealing with resolving the FM reception issue. Overall a very pleasant experience and as always the Crutchfield crew is great to deal with.

    Pros: Great features, low price.

Cons: A lot of button pushing to make fine adjustments. Once you learn what to push it becomes much easier to navigate. Communication/control issue with iPhone 4S through Kenwood cable, no probelm with iPhone 4. Maybe something with the iPhone?

In my original cd player I did not even have my amp all the way up and it sounded great but since I updated to this one I had to up my settings on my amp. Not a big problem but still. Everything is pretty easy to understand and use. I did not know you have to buy the Bluetooth part separate to be able to set up your phone and Pandora to actually show on the screen. I found one cheap though a few days later. The mic works pretty good and is pretty clear. The sound is great on it. The touch screen is very easy to move along and get where you want to be. 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had high hopes for this unit, but I ended up disappointed and returned it for a different unit. First, the bluetooth call quality is just atrociously, inexcusably bad. Even with the mic a foot or two away, you can barely hear the caller while the surrounding noise is pronounced. Useless. The unit also would not read a DVD+R with MP3s on it, even though it was finalized. I tried the same disc in a Pioneer X3500BHS, and it worked just fine. This was a big deal, as I wanted the ability to quickly switch between MP3 DVDs and this unit couldn't do it. In addition, Kenwood's user interface is awful - it looks like something from the 90s. In the age of the smartphone, the layout, icons, and responsiveness of this unit all leave much to be desired. Boot time is way too long - around 7-8 seconds. (Which is worse when you have a backup camera and you sit and wait to be able to backup safely) Kenwood needs to optimize their OS, use faster hardware, and please hire or outsource a user interface specialist. Most car radios have an easy "off" setting that keeps a clock or other useful info on the screen. Bizarrely, this unit has no quick way to do this. You have to either hold the power button to completely power down the unit, or you have to go into its Standby "input" by first going into the "all inputs" list and choosing it there. Even then, standby mode doesn't have a large clock on the screen - just empty screen. No big deal, but indicative of Kenwood's lack of design effort.

Pros: Relatively cheap Sirius/XM has 4 pages of presets for a total of 24 - very nice Pandora support Wheel for volume instead of buttons

Cons: Bluetooth call quality User interface Not compatible with iPhone 5

Pros: Very easy and intuitive to learn your way around the screen selections.

Cons: Can be difficult to see the screen when in direct sun light, but it is better non LCD screens. Microphone isn't the best but it does get the job done, you don't have to repeat your self anymore then you do while using your cell phone alone. I installed this stereo to replace a shaker 500 bad disc nightmare of a head unit. still learning new features it has. I love being able to play from so many different sources. microphone has trouble picking up my voice but im still adjusting things. this model has a ton of features for the price. there are plenty of ways to play music through this unit. I wish there were more user slots on the eq, as I really don't care for many of the presets. touch screen is nice, even with big hands. supposed to be able to adjust the buttons I think but haven't tried this out. I esp like how the menu dissappears when playing movies, yet you can still press where the button area was and navigate the dvd without obstructing the screen. overall I am very happy with how it pushes my speakers much louder and clearer than the shaker unit. can't beat the price. the pros far outweigh the few and tedious cons.

Pros: -multiple formats and media supported -crossover filter and eq customization for front, rear, and sub -plenty of input sources -usb, 3x rca, dvd, cd, Bluetooth -reads dual layer dvd data discs (8gigs is awesome, usb even more) -4V rca sub outs -keeps eq & filter settings stored for each source

Cons: -microphone is weak -doesnt read mp4 format -display should have more graphical options while playing music -only one user slot for eq

I've liked it from the start up, but the manual could be made more simplified. I'm not the most patient guy when it comes to reading instructions, or the most techie, but I figured out the settings and the installation was a breeze. So much more to learn as time goes on. The DVD quality is quite impressive. The Sub woofer came alive with this HU, and the component speakers no longer distort as it did with my old Kenwood unit. I like the speaker selection feature. That's a plus along with many others. The BT seems to work as designed. I'm using Android, so streaming music is something new to me. Just wish sound quality wasn't so tinny. I'll have to look into settings more on that one. All in all, a great value backed by a great company. I'm glad I bought, and all reviews are spot on from what I read. In ending, nothing is 5 stars unless you pay top of the line price which I never do. That's my only reason for 4 star rating.

Pros: Looks, features, sound quality, up to date technology, and most of all, value for the buck.

Cons: Non as of yet. I'll update if any develop. But neither Kenwood or Crutchfield has never let me down.

So I was having some issues with my factory radio and wanted to get a cheaper radio that would allow for bluetooth calls in the car. I've had Kenwoods before and chose this model based on price and features. Radio works great so far, although I was disappointed that my iPhone would not bluetooth stream music. I bought the iPod cable and it works great - charges the phone and all interaction is on the radio with an easy to scroll through list of my music. Also, I am able to see all of my phone contacts on the radio and can call directly from the radio rather than from the phone (can also start call on the phone). My only complaint is that a remote is not included and that the screen seems to give off a lot of glare, making it hard to see.

Pros: good price, great features, sounds good

Cons: Remote not included and screen gives off a lot of glare

Bought this radio for an upgrade to the stock Shaker 500 system in a 2006 mustang. Went in very easy and is easy to work. The supplied parts and kit all worked well and it took only a few hours to do whole install. Waiting for subs to come in from Shelby so with the new radio and stock subs, you can tell how bad the stock really is.

Pros: Ease of use and pretty good value.

Cons: USB iPod cable does not work with a normal apple cable so you need to buy the accessory. I am just going to use the Bluetooth streaming. Directions could be better with radio or supplied for the brake line connector.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great high quality product, as expected from a Kenwood Head Unit. Does everything the description says it will. Navigation is incredibly simple considering how many features it has. Hands free calling works great and the included microphone doesnt sound bad. Screen is clear and crisp and the touch features are very responsive for a head unit. Built in crossovers work great and enough 4v preouts to do whatever I want. The ad only shows that an iPhone can be used for anything other than pandora and hands free. However, I have been able to use my android through bluetooth and the head unit will take over any music apps and the sounds of many other apps. I can even like songs on my pandora through bluetooth. On top of this is can be set up so that you dont even have to take the phone out of your pocket to connect to the stereo through bluetooth.

Pros: Clear sound. Nice screen. Hand free. Bluetooth. 4v preouts.

Cons: The only con I can think of is that on occasion the stereo fails to recognize pandora on my phone. pandora still works in the standard bluetooth mode but i cant change stations or like through the stereo. It may be something about how i have it set up or my phone but i have heard other people having this same problem. It doesnt do this often.

Nicmo from East Bay, California on 6/6/2013

After a month so far so good. Put in 2002 Tacoma XCab and using stock speakers for now. Sounds better than stock radio but I thought it would have been a little better than what it is. Wasn't looking for to much an upgrade but hoping for a little more bass. I don't know if changing the speakers will help much or do I need to add an amp as well. Bluetooth works great with iPhones 4s and 5, dvd looks good, Pandora works, and there is no problem with callers understanding me or me understanding callers, Like the volume knob over other brands push button volume control. Next is a backup camera

Pros: everything works as advertised, good for price

Cons: no video from iPhone 5 but not a big deal to me, being able to angle the screen would have been nice, also a little more volume

I recently purchased a Kenwood DDX-470. With the help of a Crutchfield Advisor, he helped me to choose the best receiver for my vehicle and my needs. I received the package in the mail very quickly after the purchase was made. I installed this in a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with factory navigation. Installation was a little time consuming, and I did experience a few problems with wiring. With the help of Crutchfield's Tech Support, I was able to get the problem figured out. Their help saved me a lot of headaches. I like a lot of the features that this device has. I like being able to hook up my iPhone4 with the cable provided. Pandora radio works very well. I also like having hands-free telephone capabilities. The menus are very easy to navigate through and there is little delay when choosing icons. I still have to adjust some of the equalizer settings, but it sounds pretty good at this point.

Pros: Lots of features, hands-free Bluetooth capability, Pandora, iPod/iPhone connectivity.

Cons: Wiring can be somewhat difficult for beginners.

The Kenwood DDX470 is a great middle level DVD player. I have an iPhone 5. Kenwood customer service helped me change the settings so I could use the iPhone 5 lightning cable. Pandora and the iPod function works great now! The Bluetooth connections very quickly and works very well. DVDs look good and played without problem. I have this matched with a Rockford 400x1 amp and a Rockford 10" T1 power series sub. The Kenwood has great features for the sub allowing more control over the sound. The Kenwood only plays analog video and the iPhone 5 is digital so my only wish is that I could get video from the iPhone to the Kenwood.

Pros: Easy to use, excellent looking screen, Bluetooth works flawlessly, iPod and pandora works great with iPhone 5, DVDs look very good, good controls for subs.

Cons: Only plays analog video, means no video with iPhone 5.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The DDX 470 was primarily purchased for the Bluetooth features in both hands free calling and iPhone music. The unit performs well on both fronts but is limited in some respects when using an Iphone5. The iPhone5 and the DDX470 do not work together for the call waiting functions. The Kenwood operating manual doesn't even mention call waiting so it may be a shortcoming of the Head unit regardless of the phone used. Also, according to Kenwood, e iPhone 5 can only send video in HDMI and currently none of Kenwoods receivers (including the DDX470) are capable of accepting a high definition signal. As a result there is no possible way to get video from an IPhone 5 to this unit. Unfortunately this means the Google Street Map application also will not work with the iphone5/DDX470 unit (video - the audio turn by turn does work through the unit and car speakers). Overall a very good unit but a bit behind the folks at Apple.

Pros: Bluetooth hands free calling works very well with clear reception. iPod (with cable) and iPod w/blue tooth works well.

Cons: Lack of compatibility of video functions using iphone5. No call waiting feature.

Incredible head unit for the price! I did a TON of research, so will provide the highlights. First, I installed the unit with Sirius XM, iPod cable into a 2007 VW Touareg. The sound quality is great and definitely better than the stock HU. I have an iPhone 5 and tons of great features work. Only thing you lose is the video as other reviews mention. What I love: Sirius XM a must Bluetooth audio and phone paired in 2 secs Pandora via Bluetooth is easy and same as when connected. Only diff is thumbs up or down only done when connecting cable. Screen is good for viewing "retina" display, but still nice. No issues with mic for phone, clear as a bell! Here is the best part for iPhone 4S or 5 get Siri hands free! Just hold the TEL button and it activates Siri. Was designed to say, "call home", but if you say "text John", it will take you through voice prompts to send, read texts, etc. so cool. Also, you can get the audio only for GPS turn-by-turn. Hold TEL button, say "give me directions home", and you'll hear directions through speakers. Buy this head unit!

Pros: iPhone 5 integration for Bluetooth audio and Siri

Cons: No iPhone 5 video, but wasn't necessary for me.

Pros: Thanks to Crutchfield and their technical support I was able to install it myself and save a couple hundred dollars on the install.

Cons: The only problem with the install is that from 2008 to the present the factory XM receiver would not just plug in to the Kenwood Head Unit. I've had the stereo approximately two weeks and to date it has been a huge upgrade over my old JVC single Din unit. The sound quality is good and the Bluetooth works great. I mounted the mic above the rear view mirror and clipped it to where the celling fabric meets the windshield as I saw on a post online; and thus far phone calls from both ends are clear. The only negative I've come across is that I have to choose what option I want with the "Tel Key Long Press" . I set it to turn off the screen; however I would have liked to also be able to use it to engage Siri on my IPhone.

Pros: Bluetooth integration for phone and streaming music from IPhone

    Cons: Minor issue stated above

    Average player

FDV from San Antonio, TX on 3/24/2013

Had the unit for about 3 weeks now. It takes some time to figure out, but nothing out of the ordinary. Sound quality is about average, I think I had better sound out of my Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD. I got this unit because the Pioneer rear RCA outputs stopped working. The 3 band parametric EQ needs some fine tuning, DVD picture is about average, I could say better than the Pioneer. The main problem with this unit is the iPod integration. I'm using the iPod cable so the radio is the one controlling the unit. It takes a few seconds, sometimes 4-5 to switch between songs, while on the Pioneer it was immediate. I'm not using Pandora or Sirius, so no comment on those features. The built in bluetooth is very nice, quick communication with my Galaxy SIII, calls are crystal clear on both sides, and that is even with the windows open on a turbo GTO (can you say LOUD?) Access contacts, call logs flawlessly. I hope they come with an upgrade soon for the iPod integration.

Pros: Hands free phone calls are above average. DVD play quality is very good.

Cons: iPod integration leaves a lot to be desired.

    Pros: good sound. fair price.

Cons: bluetooth issue as described above. user interface and graphical interface not as cool as it could be. especially given that most users are used to an apple itunes viewing experience, which this user interface does not quite provide. also at night would be better if the headunit could dim further but it does not let you dim it very much so the bright light can be a little distracting on long drives.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This headunit is quite cool. Loaded with features. It looks better in my double din slot compared to my single din headunit. The screen is nice. Has an anti glare coating which helps a ton. The CD player works good. It plays discs better than my other headunit. I had a hard time trying to find a good place to mount the external mic. But when I finally found a discrete place I was impressed how well it worked. I have no issues with Pandora through bluetooth or the 30 pin connector for my iPhone. Works great with my iPod classic. Amazing integration. Siri works like it should. I bought the Garmin app for my iPhone and have yet to get the cable that is sold separably but soon I will. The "security" light is a great add. It blinks when the car is off to make it look like a stock unit. It deters theft. And that's my biggest worry having a full touch screen that doesn't detach.

Pros: So far everything works. Great iPhone and iPod integration. The controls are great for Pandora and scrolling through my iPod classic. I can even use my iPod Bluetooth adapter and it works. That adapter doesnt send data so its a blank screen so I just use the 30 pin cable. It even charged my iPad 3rd gen which I surprised. I love that all the inputs are on the back. Nice and clean looking. A cool feature is it pulls the time off the RDS. It has a nice stand by mode. And I love the security light.

Cons: It takes about 5 seconds to turn on. The dimmer doesnt work for me. Not a huge deal. It doesn't detect my parking break is set unless the key is set to the on position. No big deal since I didn't buy it for movies. The touch screen buttons are a little close so sometimes you accidently push the wrong button. Also one time it froze my iPod classic in the kenwood mode. I couldn't get it to reset for the longest time. Also sometimes Pandora can act up where it wont detect the phone.

Just bought this last Wednesday, installed it myself this weekend in my Accord. I have a HTC EVO 4GLTE phone and the bluetooth pairing works amazing, dont know what the guy above was working with, but within seconds of hopping in my car it pairs. Pandora is AMAZING, every once in awhile it will tell me to check my device, but for the most part it works flawlessly. Made a couple calls with the bluetooth and I was told it sounds like im in a tunnel, it echos a lot I guess. Thats my only complaint with the deck. Who cares though, it works and i dont have to hold my phone! DVD plays great, couple seconds after you load it, its playing. Sound is phenomonal. This was my first "smart stereo" purchase, and im very impressed. For some reason it doesnt display CD TEXT for a lot of CD's I have, new and old. Sound is very customizable, and you can change it for each setting, I.E. CD, Pandora, Radio, etc. Touch screen has big buttons, very easy to use. The install, well thats a whole other story... But I got it in first try with no problems. I guess unless you're really spoiled and used to WAY better, I think you will like this deck. I'm very happy with the sound quality and the bluetooth options.

I'm not impressed with this unit- I was at first, but after using it for a week, I'm sending it back. I drive long distances frequently and wanted something that would make those drives easier. The hands-free mic works well for calling and not needing to hold the phone. I'm told the call quality on the receiving end is very good and much better than when I'm holding the phone or using headphones with a mic. The bluetooth connectivity is not the greatest. I've had many issues with getting the head unit to connect with my phone. Once it establishes the connection, it's mostly reliable but there have been a few instances where calls are dropped. My drive to work is about 18 minutes. This thing won't connect with the phone until about 13 minutes into the drive. The bluetooth is not built in to the unit- there is a hard-wired USB cord coming off of the rear of the unit with a bluetooth dongle in the end of the cord. Why isn't it just built in to the head? The graphics aren't great- the screen looks very pixellated- not a crip and well defined picture. The CD player takes about 20 seconds to start playing once a disc has been inserted. The only Pandoa function that works properly is the skip to next track. There is no thumbs up/down button and, the track title information doesn't update properly. I've listened to Pandora for about 12 hours this week while driving and, if the display were correct, I've listend to Eminem's "Drug Ballad" about 180 times.

Pros: The hands free calling is very good. I'm quite impressed with how well it works; even in a very loud diesel truck. I'm just not happy with everything else.

Cons: Power button is not lighted when the unit is off. There are several other issues listed in the main body- I have a lot of negative things to say about this unit

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

it looks amazing in the dash. no joke. the bluetooth connectivity is ok, although i did have a small issue initially, my iphone 4s kept saying the reciever was too far away, yackity smackity, but after an evening of messing around with both my phone and the receiver, i was able to get everything working. i was most excited about being able to use siri to make phone calls, set reminders, etc. i dont know why but the mic wouldnt work at first (i placed behind my steering wheel) but after pulling the reciever back out and checking the connection, it miraculously started working. i must say that it was pretty overwhelming getting both the gmos and aswc hooked up to this stereo. my steering wheel controls are iffy and that really seems to be the only issue im having currently. oh, just a heads yourself a favor and buy the kenwood cable that hooks your ipod/iphone up. the reciever has an ipod option but even with your iphone connected with the bluetooth, your phones music wiill not be found here. its really not a big deal, but it is kind of confusing at first when you would think the reciever would read an ipod/iphone as such without a special cord. the stereo came with the option and i figure i should take advantage of it so I'm getting the cable. any who, yep, cool stereo. i recommend it.

Pros: you can use siri thru the reciever to do all sorts of stuff! bluetooth is awesome! clear phone calls! crutchfield tech support was great! 8 phonecalls later and i can say without them, this stereo would not be working. the usb connection cable is a good length too.

Cons: you need a cable to fully access your ipod thru the receiver. this was my first stereo install ever so it was the hugest pain and totally overwhelming, but I'm sure anyone with any knowledge of car stereos could breeze thru the install.

You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display a blue screen and "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork.

Front-Panel Controls w/ Variable Color Illumination: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons and a rotary-dial along the left edge of the screen. You can adjust the head unit's button illumination from the following preset colors - Blue, Purple, Sky Blue, Yellow, Green, Amber, Red, Pink, White or Scan (Scans through all preset colors). You can also select a custom "User" color that is adjusted between Red, Green, and Blue (values range: 0-31). The Eject and Kenwood logo remain red, regardless of variable color illumination setting.

Dimmer: The dimmer function will dim this unit's display and button illumination automatically when the vehicle light switch is turned On when you connect orange/white Illumination wire of this player's harness. You can also manually dim the unit's display and button illumination.

2-DIN Chassis: The DDX470 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as Double DIN or size DD), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets, or Euro-mounted using the supplied mounting sleeve. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Built-in Bluetooth

The USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) must remain plugged into the rear-panel USB port. The DDX470 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless audio streaming.

Bluetooth Technology: The Kenwood DDX470 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (2.1+EDR) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

SPP (Secure Simple Pairing): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the Kenwood DDX470 without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When a registered Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can register up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices with the Kenwood head unit (only one paired phone can be used at a time).

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The touchscreen controls of the DDX470 can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers (All or Front only). During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering a Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.
Note: This unit allows you to answer a call or dial out using any option without engaging the parking brake.

External Microphone: The Kenwood DDX470 includes an external microphone to carry on your side of your phone conversation and voice command dialing. The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the volume level and noise cancellation of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.505" (depth).

Note: This unit does not offer an integrated front-panel microphone.

The DDX470 also supports audio streaming of music apps downloaded on your smartphone with metadata display and limited control. Advanced music control of your music apps will still need be done via your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Digital Assistant Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or 5/5C/5S via Bluetooth (not USB), the Kenwood DDX470 has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press-and-hold down on the head unit's "VOICE/TEL" button to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the DDX470 and its microphone. The head unit's LCD touchscreen will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Kenwood DDX470; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone 4S/5/5C/5S. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

    iPod/iPhone Integration

iPod/iPhone Connectivity: The Kenwood DDX470 supports audio/video playback from select Apple iPods and iPhones.

    • Audio/Video Playback: The Kenwood DDX470's rear-panel USB (type-A) port and rear-panel 3.5mm A/V AUX input allow you to connect select Apple iPod/iPhones using the Kenwood KCA-IP202 iPod cable (113IP202, sold separately). The unit's USB port handles the control, metadata display, and charging of your iPod/iPhone. You can navigate through your music and video files using the head unit's touchscreen controls and view song and movie info on its display, while your iPod/iPhone charges. The 3.5mm AV input handles audio and video transfer from your iPod/iPhone to the Kenwood DDX470. By using the Auxiliary input, the music travels to the receiver as an analog signal, so you can even play the Digital-Rights-Protected files you've stored on your iPod/iPhone. The unit's rear-panel AV input must be set to "iPod" in order to playback audio/video from your connected iPod/iPhone. Video can only be displayed while the vehicle is in park.
    • Audio Only Playback: If you only want to playback audio from your iPod or iPhone, you can simply connect it to the DDX470's USB port using either the USB/iPod dock cable that came with your iPod/iPhone or Kenwood's iPod Direct Connect Cable (113KCIP102, sold separately). This 1-wire USB connection bypasses the iPod/iPhone's DAC and sound quality is maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal-to-Noise ratio up to 99dB. The unit's rear-panel AV input must be set to "AV-IN2" in order to use the 1-wire USB connection. You will not be able to play Digital-Rights-Protected files.
Note: If you have an iPod nano (7th gen), iPod touch (5th gen), or iPhone 5/5C/5S; use the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit. These Apple devices only support audio playback (no video output).

iPod Control: You can choose to control your connected iPod/iPhone from the head unit, from the iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen, or from select apps streamed to your iPhone.

    • Head Unit Control Mode: The Kenwood head unit allows you to navigate your iPod's music library by Playlist, Artists, Album, Genre, Composer, Song, Podcast, or Audiobook. Your iPod's video library can be searched by Video Playlist, Movie, Music Video, TV Show, Video Podcast, Rented Movie, or iTunesU. You can then search each of these categories using the head unit's touchscreen slider function. The head unit also supports Repeat (track) & Random (album) playback functions of your connected iPod/iPhone.
    • iPod/App Control Mode: The iPod/App control mode allows you to control stored audio/video content from your connected iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen. This is very useful for the person riding in your passenger seat. The iPod/App mode also lets you listen to your favorite music apps, such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM,, Rhapsody, & Slacker streamed to your iPhone (iOS 3.0+) through the Kenwood head unit and your vehicle's speakers. You can even watch video on the Kenwood DVD receiver's touchscreen from streaming movie apps, such as Netflix & YouTube, downloaded on your iPhone 4/4S (iOS 4.0+), via the Kenwood KCA-IP202 iPod cable (sold separately). The App Mode's video functions can only be accessed when the vehicle is in park and the hand-brake is fully engaged. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode and App Mode will provide only limited (basic), if any, control over the app. Available controls may include - Play/Pause & Skip Previous/Next.
Note: Access to your iPhone's downloaded applications will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

iPod/iPhone Display: The Kenwood DDX470 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information when you are controlling your iPod or iPhone from the Kenwood multimedia head unit. The head unit will display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label. The unit will also display Album Art. If you choose to operate your connected iPod/iPhone in iPod/App Control Mode, the DDX470 will not display your iPod/iPhone's music information (the head unit will instead display 'iPhone App and iPod Control Mode + Parking Off').

iPod Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

Garmin App: In addition, the optional KCA-IP202 iPod cable allows you to view navigation maps and get audible/visual directions on the DDX470's touchscreen, when the Garmin StreetPilot Onboard USA app ($49.99), and the Vehicle Display Integration in-app option ($49.99) are both downloaded to your connected iPhone (4/4S) or iPad (1/2/3); running iOS 5.1 or later. The Garmin StreetPilot Onboard USA app contains NAVTEQ map data for the United States (lower 49 states); with over a million POIs, turn-by turn directions, lane assist with junction view, traffic updates, and speed limit alerts. Because the map data is downloaded onto your iPhone and does not live on the network, wireless coverage is not required to navigate. Once you have selected your destination on your connected iPhone, your map route will be visible on the DDX470's touchscreen (even with parking brake disengaged) and turn-by-turn directions can be heard through your car stereo speakers. You will continue to use your iPhone's touchscreen to control the Garmin StreetPilot USA app. The screen of your iPhone and the screen of the Kenwood DDX470 may not be identical.

Note: A Garmin StreetPilot Onboard app with North American maps (US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, USVI, and more) is also available for $59.99.

    • Seek Modes: You can choose one of three tuning modes: Auto 1 (seek tuning), Auto 2 (cycles through and tunes the selected band's preset stations only with each button press), or Manual.
    • Presets: Not only does the multimedia receiver's tuner allow you manually enter your desired presets you can choose to have the unit automatically put stations with good reception in the memory banks automatically; this is a handy feature when traveling. You can store up to 18 FM stations and 6 AM stations as presets.
    • Mono Mode: This feature reduces the noise (static) when a stereo broadcast is received as monaural (for FM band only).

Pandora Internet Radio: Pandora is the leading Internet Radio music service in the United States, giving people music they love anytime, anywhere, through personalized radio stations. The Kenwood DDX470 DVD receiver lets you playback and control the Pandora Internet Radio music service that is being streamed to your Apple iPhone, Android smartphone, or Blackberry device. Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Kenwood DDX470 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Kenwood DDX470 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the DDX470 are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels

6ch/4V Preamp Outputs: The DDX470 features front, rear and subwoofer 4.0-volt preamp outputs. The front and rear speaker preamp outputs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs are fixed to the rear chassis of the head unit.

Front & Rear High-Pass Filter: The DDX470 features an independent High-Pass Crossover for the front & rear channels when your front & rear speakers are connected by the unit's speaker-outputs or preamp-outputs. You can adjust the high-pass crossover from 'Through' (off), 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 180, or 220 Hz. The "Through" selection is a full-range setting. This feature is very helpful when you have smaller-type speakers in the front and larger-type speakers installed in the rear of the vehicle.

Subwoofer Controls: The Kenwood DDX470 offers the following subwoofer controls, when you have the unit's subwoofer preamp output activated.

    • Low Pass Filter: The receiver features a built-in Low Pass Filter control for the preamp-output, when the output is set to Subwoofer. You can select from 50, 60, 80, Hz, 100 Hz, 120 Hz, or 'Through' (off).
    • Subwoofer Phase: You can adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).
    • Subwoofer Level: Once the Subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can independently control the subwoofer preamp output level (-50 to +10) from the DVD receiver.

Speaker Type Setting: This feature tailors the DDX470 according to the type of front speakers in your vehicle. You may select Standard (for speakers with a general diameter), Narrow (for speakers with a small diameter), Middle (for speakers with a medium diameter), or Wide (for speakers with a large diameter).

Preset EQ: Eight EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass (100Hz), midrange (1kHz), and treble (12.5kHz). You can choose from the following preset EQ curves - Rock, Pops, Easy, Top 40, Jazz, Natural, Flat, and User.

EQ Pro: The DDX470 features independent Bass, Treble, and Midrange control when the Preset EQ is in User mode. EQ Pro allows you to adjust the following settings for the Bass, Treble and Mid frequency levels.

    EQ Pro
Center Frequency Q-Factor Bass Extension Level
    Bass 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 120, or 150 Hz 1.00, 1.25, 1.50, or 2.00 On/Off -8 to +8
    Midrange 0.5k, 1.0k, 1.5k, or 2.0k Hz 1.00 or 2.00 N/A
    Treble 10.0k, 12.5k, 15.0k, or 17.5k Hz N/A N/A
Note: You can store bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (Disc, Tuner, AV, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, and Pandora).

Loudness: This function enhances low and high frequencies to make the sound clearer lower volumes.

Volume Offset: The level of each source may be independently adjusted to prevent radical leaps in output volume when switching from one source to another. The available settings range from -8 to +6.

Dynamic Range: The dynamic range can be adjusted by selecting either Normal, Wide or Dialog. Dialog makes the total sound volume become larger as compared with Wide and Normal, allowing you to listen to the movie's dialogue more clearly. This is effective only on Dolby Digital software.

Key Beep: The in-dash multimedia head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    AV Connection

Dual A/V Inputs: The Kenwood DDX470 DVD receiver is fitted with two audio/video inputs. The unit features a rear-panel 3.5mm audio/video input for connecting an external game console or portable MP3 player. This input also serves as the A/V input for your USB-connected iPod (using proprietary Kenwood cable). The head unit also features a composite video/stereo audio RCA input on the rear-panel for connecting an external A/V source, such as a Blu-ray player or mobile ATSC tuner.

Camera Input: The unit features a composite video input for connecting an optional rear view camera, such as the Kenwood CMOS-210 (113CMOS210, sold separately). The video from this connection can be set to display when switched to this input, or display the rear view camera video automatically when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse gear. The purple/white wire (attached to the rear chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching. Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.5 seconds. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

A/V Output: The unit features a composite video jack and 3.5mm audio jack to output A/V signals to an optional monitor and headphone system in the rear of your vehicle. You can select between a 16:9, 4:3 LB, or 4:3 PS Aspect Ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected monitor. The audio/video source which you can output to a separate monitor and headphone system depends on the current source that is being played back on the Kenwood DVD receiver.

DVD Receiver Source A/V Output Source

Tuner/SiriusXM (optional tuner required) DVD, USB, iPod, AV-IN1, AV-IN2, or Off

    Remote Control

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Optional Remote Control: The optional Kenwood KNA-RCDV331 IR wireless remote control (113RCDV331, sold separately) unit is designed to operate this Kenwood multimedia head unit. The wireless remote controller operates off of two supplied "AAA" batteries. The remote operates off of IR transmission so the KNA-RCDV331 must be pointed at the front-panel of the Kenwood head unit within direct line of sight.

For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Jeff  Jan 02, 2014 ]  Staff
It should play the DVD and display to other screens that you would have to hook up too to the unit. But is should not display on the screen of the in dash unit if the car is not in park. There are laws against this to avoid the driver being distracted watching a video while driving. I don't know of one that will. [ MARCUS H  Dec 30, 2013 ]
No there is an automatic lock out tied to emergency brake or transmission Seems a liability issue, and would think rightly so [ JAMES  Dec 26, 2013 ]
The thumb drive slot is attached to the rear of the unit, but is on an extension cable which you can run to the glove box or other places. I like the set up [ MICHAEL S  Jan 15, 2014 ]
The USB slot is located on a extended drop cord that comes out the back of radio. This allows you to locate the slot where you would have access to it when radio is installed. [ STEVEN W  Dec 14, 2013 ]
Its a cable that comes out of the rear of the unit that you can route wherever u want. I ran mine over to my glove box and pull it out when I need it. [ MIKE  Dec 14, 2013 ]
There is a wire that comes from the back of the stereo. Its pretty long so you can install it where ever you feel is best for you. The blue tooth wire comes out the same way. I just left mine on the floor in my Yukon xl. I hope this was helpful. [ JAYNA  Dec 13, 2013 ]
It is behind the radio attached to a pigtail. [ IVAN  Dec 13, 2013 ]
It's on the back. There is an extension cable you have to leave hanging down so you'll have access to it, especially for firmware updates to the unit. [ ANGELA  Dec 13, 2013 ]
I would definitely just connect the ground to metal chassis (make sure it is not a painted surface) but the problem may be the 12v input; it could be getting the wrong voltage. Get a multimeter and check the output on the yellow line. If that's good, I'd RMA the deck. [ Charles  Dec 12, 2013 ]
