The KCA-iP300V connecting cable gives you high-speed access to the music and video on your Video iPod through your compatible 2007-up Kenwood DVD receiver. One end of the cable plugs into your iPod's dock connector. The other end includes a USB cable, a miniplug audio cable, and a miniplug video cable, all of which connect to your Kenwood stereo's inputs.

The USB cable handles the control and charging of your iPod, so you can navigate through your music files with the Kenwood's controls and view song info on its display. The miniplug connectors transfer the music and video from your iPod to the stereo's audio and video inputs. Music and video images travel to your stereo as analog signals, so you can even play the Digital Rights-protected files stored on your iPod. Warranty: 1 year.

Note: Your 2007-up Kenwood DVD receiver must have a USB input, an auxiliary input, and a miniplug video input in order to work with this cable. Additionally, this adapter does not support video playback for the following iPod models: iPhone, iPod touch, iPod classic (6th generation), iPod nano (3rd generation).

Compatibility Note: Be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this iPod adapter.

Why would I need an iPod® adapter?

An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. One, you can scroll through your song titles on your stereo's larger display, instead of squinting down at your iPod. Two, you can route the adapter cable to your glove compartment or center console, so your iPod stays safely out of sight. Three, the iPod adapter keeps your iPod fully charged, so it's ready to rock when you leave your car. And last of all, some adapters bypass your iPod's internal digital-to-analog converter, using your stereo's superior DAC to turn your files back into music.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was the eastist car autio add on i have ever done in my life 2 minutes on a 2005
Fod explorer. Works great with my ipod 6 clasic

Cable works great.. Uses the USB port

Written By Anonymous, San Diego, CA on Sunday, May 23, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The cable is really easy to install. It does eat up the USB connector for the head unit, so if you want to use a flash drive and the Ipod cable, make sure to run the USB cable to an accessible area. That way you can unplug the Ipod cable and plug in the USB when needed.

I have it connected to a Kenwood 719DVD running 1.0.9 firmware.

I have a Ipod Touch 32GB (3rd Gen) and a Ipod Nano (6th gen).. The video does NOT work on the Ipod Nano. It is the new model with FM Tuner and camera. Everything else works great. Very fast and responsive.

The video DOES work with the Ipod Touch. This is a brand new Ipod Touch that I bought on 5/23/2010. It is running 3.1.3 Software. The description says it video wont work for the Touch, but it seems to be working just fine :)

Don't make the mistake I did !! I bought an "alleged" Kenwood cable from another site, only to find out it was a copy. IT DIDN'T WORK !! I immediately called Crutchfield. They had this item in stock, and shipped it the same day !! Hooked it up to my KENWOOD KVT819 DVD , along with my 6th generation IPOD CLASSIC 120gb, and it works flawlessly !!

Now I can watch my music videos on my Harley Davidson Ultra !! WOO HOO !!

This cable works great to connect an iPhone 3G to a DNX7100 Kenwood unit in my wife's car. Audio, album art and video all work correctly and quickly.

Almost Perfect

Written By Jeff, Madison, IN on Tuesday, June 02, 2009

Running a DNX8120 Receiver with a 120gb 6th Gen ipod classic. Length of use to date is about 6 weeks.

Overall I would not be without the cable. It is a wonderful way to utilize the ipod, which stays discreetly in the glove box. I only remove it to synch with itunes. It also works fine with my 3g iphone, subject to the same limitations discussed below. For the price it's a "no-brainer." However, there is room for improvement. Likely, the improvement needs to come from the receiver's operating software, i.e., it's ability to display and play the content from the ipod is only as good as the software that runs it.

Observations: No latency between navigating content and ipod response time. It works as fast as if navigating the ipod itself.

Functionality Cons: Cannot navigate back to artist or album selection from a song playing within a playlist.

Genius playlist functionality is not supported. Big disappointment as this is the main reason I upgraded to the latest ipod classic.

Navigating pages is a little cumbersome. I have about 80gb of music on my ipod which translates into pages and pages of screens. If I'm trying to get to a song/album that starts with M, for example, it requires a surgeon's precison and some luck to get close to it. Ideally, they would add a character list so you could navigate directly to that letter of the alphabet.

Ocasionally the ipod hangs. The screen just displays "reading." Requires restarting the receiver.

KCA-iP300V in a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe

Written By David, Dallas, TX on Wednesday, March 04, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

it's a cable, not much to say; connected to a Kenwood DNX5120 and seems to work just fine for audio from my iPod, haven't tried video

the '03 Tahoe's have a strange little compartment on the left-side of the glove-box that was too small to really be useful for anything, so I drilled a hole in it and ran the iPod end of the cable up into there, and it's perfect for an iPod

I connected the audio/video straight to the DNX5120, but have the USB end sticking up in the center console and I put a panel-mount USB socket in the side of the console and ran that to the DNX5120; this way, I can use the iPod (which is 95% of the time) but if I want, I can disconnect the KCA-iP300V USB cable and plug in a thumb-drive

Does what it is supposed to. Connected it to my DNX7120 and the functionality is exactly how I would have expected it. Fast. Unfortunately I have no tried any videos, because I do not put them on my ipod, but the sound works great.

Fast User Interface

Written By Alan, Great Mills, MD on Monday, November 24, 2008

Before I purchased this connector, I had a USB drive connected to my DNX-8120. The response when trying to select a song was unbearable. With this connector, I am able to maneuver through the menu with instant response. Plus, I can fast forward and rewind; something that was unavailable with the standard USB connection.

I love it

Easy install just plugged it into the back of my Kenwood DNX8120, and ran the ipod hookup portion over to my glovebox. No need to be able to see the ipod, as my head unit allows for full ipod control and there is no delay or lag like other ipod control units i have used. Awesome.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The first cable i got was defective. Crutchfield was great at getting a second cord out to me and that one works great. I have a DNX-5120 and LOVE the Ipod interface. Best I have seen.

Thank you Kenwood

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Using on a Kenwood DDX512. This cable and unit have a quick read time
and actually encouraged me to get into the Ipod craze. My wife and kids
have had one for years, but I managed on my od MP3. This finally convinced
me. Ease of use, speed of reading, video, and the WOW factor. A good
combination for those long road trips.
I recomend this cable if your head unit allows it.

IPOD Touch update

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an awesome product, I paired it with a dnx-8120 and it performs like a champ. I have a ipod touch (32gb) and I just wanted everyone to know that with the latest firmware from apple for the touch it now plays videos and movies on the dnx-8120. You just start the movie playing and then click on the empty alblum art box on the currently playing screen, the box is a gray box next to the movie title and other info on that screen. Then the movie starts playing and it looks sweet!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installs quickly and easily and works great so far (I just got it so I've only used it a few times). I have a Kenwood DNX8120 in my 2003 VW Passat, and have used a couple different 6th generation iPods (80gb and 160gb), and the audio and video play fine from both. I bough an 80gb iPod just to have an audio and video jukebox in my car and so far it does everything I want so I'm happy with it.

limited iPod support

Written By Michael, Providence, RI on Monday, August 11, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read the supported iPods list but wasn't expecting support for older iPods to be so poor. (Gen-4 will play audio but doesn't really seem to charge. Mini won't work at all) Unless you have one of the specific models listed, save your money and just use the AUX-IN. It also ties up the USB port so you have to chose either iPod or USB (or run the USB and AV in connections somewhere where you can connect and disconnect the iPod cable)

Works great!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought to go with my Kenwood DNX8120. I like having full control of my iPod. Being able to see all artists, playlists, genre, etc etc is just what I was looking for. I don't have videos on my iPod but itis nice to know that I can access them if I had them!

I highly recommend this adapter to go along with the new generation of Kenwood head units.

iPod Touch issues

Written By Jon, Auburn, WA on Sunday, July 06, 2008

I'd just like to warn you people that if you're using an iPod Touch the video
cannot be accessed using this cable. Nor any other cable available through
Kenwood it looks like. It appears that when the iPod Touch was
manufactured, Apple physically changed the video pin-out position. So now
the only way to get video is if you own previous iPod models. I think only
the 5th generation iPod's support using this cable but I'm not sure. I just
know that the video on the new Touch will not work.
I actually had to purchase another iPod model (Classic) in order to use the
video features on my Kenwood KVT-819DVD navigation unit. I wish I had
known this before purchasing the thing but overall I'm quite happy with it.
The speed is excellent when I'm switching though my playlists. Absolutely
no lag time at all that I've experienced.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

cable works fine when it works, but it locked up my stereo. I couldnt even turn the unit off.. I had to pull the fuse to reset it. I had borrowed the non namebrand cord from my buddy who got it free with his stereo.. I used it for maybe 3 months with no problem... But he got an ipod and wanted it back so when I was ordering I said why not spend the extra $ and get the namebrand cable.. mistake!!!! The second day I had it it locked up.. I think I am going to trade it in for the other cable

Kenwood KCA-iP300V

Written By Andrew, Massachusetts on Monday, February 11, 2008

Along with my KVT-819DVD, this thing is great! It's like having a hot swappable hard drive, with all of your movies and music on it! Perfect for long trips, etc.

One issue, though, is for some reason kenwood used L-type jacks, as opposed to straight jacks. It makes installation a little more awkward, but other than that, this thing is great!

Slow reaction time

Written By jeff, Temecula Ca on Friday, February 08, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I dont know if its normal or not, but I have an ipod Touch and the stereo doesnt load the images and the reaction time is very delayed. I guess this product would only be cool of you have an oldschool Ipod.. They should fix this

It really does lock up!!!

Written By PK, Saint simons Island, Ga on Sunday, January 06, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am right there with John from Springfield this is a fine interface but coupled with my DNX7100 and my 80g 6th gen ipod classic it freezes. It stops from allowing you to switch catergories (playlist-artist) and you have to reboot the head unit to fix it.

It also comes with alot of errors so most of the times it will play the music on the ipod but when i go to select a song or playlist it's like theres nothing there.

I believe it may have something to do with the newer ipods.

Using an Ipod Nano, the interface is flawless. I use this adapter with a Kenwood DNX 7100 also. I LOVE the ease of use, amount of information displayed on the head unit and sound clarity. Have not tested it with video as I don't have a video Ipod.

Locks up

Written By John, Springfield IL on Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Using with the DNX7100 and a Gen 5 iPod (video).

DNX7100 will Lock up.. ipod menu fozen. Will be displaying info from one song while playing another, and nothing happening when you touch any of the control softkeys. Have to shut the unit down and "re-boot"

iPod Control and display of info is GREAT.. when it work and does not lock up. This lock up happen when switching menu type.. eg Playlist to album...
