Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for determining an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured into a 4-ohm load, with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) plus noise, and over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, when applicable (20-200 Hz for this subwoofer amp). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. Using CEA-2006 criteria, the Kenwood KAC-5001PS is rated at 300 Watts RMS x 1 channel with an 83 dBA signal to noise ratio.

Specifications: The manual also lists these non CEA-2006 compliant specifications:

  • Power: 500 watts x 1-channel (into 2Ω, at 100 Hz, no more than 1.0% THD, 14.4 volts)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 100 dB (at rated power)

Mono-Power Amp Design: The KAC-5001PS is designed with specific features to power your subwoofer(s) with a frequency range between 20 and 200 Hz. This amplifier is not designed to power a full-range speaker.

Class D Amplifier Design: The amplifier design is Class D, which uses digital switching power supplies. The result is much higher efficiency (less heat generated) than Class AB.

Low-Pass Filter: The built-in 24 dB/octave low-pass filter is continuously variable from 50 to 200 Hz. The crossover is always engaged (it cannot be bypassed).

Bass Boost: The bass boost circuit is centered at 40 Hz; boost is variable from 0 to +18 dB.

Controls:

  • Input Sensitivity: 200mV-5V; continuously variable
  • Low-Pass Frequency: 50-200 Hz; continuously variable
  • Bass Boost: 0-18 dB; continuously variable

Inputs and Outputs:

  • Signal Input: one pair of RCA inputs
  • Power: screw terminal; accommodates spade connector up to 0.55" wide
  • Ground: screw terminal; accommodates spade connector up to 0.55" wide
  • Remote Turn-on: screw terminal; accommodates spade connector up to 0.335" wide
  • Speaker Output: one pair of screw terminals; accommodates spade connector up to 0.335" wide
  • Fuses: two 30 amp ATO fuses

Q
I just purchased the Infinity Primus 1270b sub from your website and am now considering this amp to power it. The 1270b has 300 watt rms and 4 ohm. Do you foresee any issues with this pairing? Thanks.

A
I don't see any issues with this match. The amp outputs the exact amount of watts needed to make your subwoofer play its best. I like it!

Q
Will this amp be ok to run with a 10" Rockford Fosgate r1s4-10? It has a rms rating of 200w and a peak of 400w. I have read Crutchfield's article on matching subs and amps. It states to always purchase car audio using rms ratings. 150% of my speakers rms rating is 300 Watts that's why I was wondering about this amp. Thank you.

I can't speak for the quality of the amp however whenever pairing amps and speakers total your speakers RMS should match you're amps total RMS. Peak ratings are four contests and burps... Basically the wattage it will take before it dies. It is not an accurate specification to consider when used for listening to music continuously.

Q
How would I go about running this amp @ 4Ohms? I own a Kicker CompR (40CWR122) 12" 800 watts RMS(1600 watts Peak) and the sub has an Ohm switch built right into the wiring port, and the amp specifically states that it can run at 500 watts RMS @ 2 Ohms or 300 watts RMS @ 4 Ohms. Is there something I have to do with the wiring or will the amp just switch itself over once I flip the switch on the sub itself? I'm interested in running at 4 Ohms because I've heard it sounds much better. Thanks in advance for any help provided!

Thanks for the answer and incredible info to match. It also means I need a new amp to power the kicker or a new sub to match the Pioneer. But maximizing potential seems safer then under powering according to those links. I figured if I bought a sub that the amp couldn't blow I would be on the safer side, but apparently I figured wrong lol. Thanks again Krissy, forever in debt to your priceless advice ;-)

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The amplifier will automatically recognized the impedance that the subwoofer is showing to the amp and it will output the amount of power according to the impedance of the sub. Here is something that may help you understand a bit more: http://www.crutchfield.com/learn/wiring-subwoofers-ohms.html?showAll=N http://www.crutchfield.com/learn/how-to-match-subwoofers-and-amplifiers.html?showAll=N If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Can I hook a bass controller to this amp from the drivers seat so I can adjust bass according to music?

Unless there is a third party controller you can find, there is no way to plug anything into the amp to control the bass output. Hope this helps.

The Scion XB I installed this amp in powers a pair of 12" Kenwoods subs. I believe the sub is under powered for the application. The factory head unit in the XB has a sub output level control which is ideal and can't imagine why you couldn't install an inline contoller.

Q
Will this amp push my kicker 12 and 2 10s?

Right now I have a kicker 300.1 pushing all three and it is a mono so than it might work right?
randy  Jul 13, 2016
A
Have one pushing 2 rockford 10's, it works great, but I doubt it'll push all 3 of those together, all the subs need the same rms rating to use the same amp, and it depends on the total rms of all 3 subs together. So I'm sorry I can't truly help without knowing what subs they are.
andrew  Jul 13, 2016
A
Its a mono amp which means it only has one set of outputs on it, so you can get two subs going with it but not the third set.
