Kenwood amplifiers have earned a strong reputation for rugged, no-nonsense reliability and superior sound quality. They feature efficient power supplies and beefy internal components so they'll pump up a ton of clean, crisp sound at a great price.

The 2-channel KAC-5204 amp delivers 60 watts RMS per channel to your full-range speaker system, which will really improve your sound quality dramatically. This tough little amp will bring new life to your factory speakers, but you'll really notice the difference when you pair it with new aftermarket speakers. You'll hear all the tonal color, depth, and detail you've been missing, whether it's the slide of a finger on an acoustic guitar, or the subtle tones of your favorite singer's voice.

You can also run the KAC-5204 in mono mode to provide 150 watts of RMS power to a subwoofer. In addition to the RCA preamp inputs, you'll find handy speaker-level inputs that allow the amp to work in just about any kind of system.

I used this for a single 8" JL sub off of the bridged setting and it is a great combo. Simple in design. Gets warm when running it so make sure it has ventilation. Looks pretty cool and runs strong for hours.

Good, long time dependable friend

Written by: Herb from el paso, TX on March 9, 2016

I have owned this Amp since they first came out, 6-7 years maybe even longer, it has never failed, I had it hooked up to a 10" Kicker comp, 150 RMS bridged, on a 2008 Pathfinder, ported box, that fits perfectly in the back of the third seats. I like clear, music w/o distortion or unbalanced, the rest of the audio equipment includes a Pioneer AVIC-Z920BT, 4 Boston Acoustics coaxial speakers, 6X9" front, 6 1/2" in the rear doors, 2 Pioneer Tweeters in the front, normally I wear a cap specially during windy days, after a local audio shop installed everything I got on the pathy and star it up, the head unit booted up and started playing a regular CD I had on the OEM head unit one, looks like the tech had the unit a little too loud and my cap just flew off my head and landed on the dash. I'm still happy with the sound this little amp puts out, I have used Pioneer and Kenwood brand for many years, too bad Boston Acoustics stopped making car speakers.

Pros: Performance, power, price, dependability.

Cons: N/A

I used this for a single 8" JL sub off of the bridged setting and it is a great combo. Simple in design. Gets warm when running it so make sure it has ventilation. Looks pretty cool and runs strong for hours.

Pros: good size for what it can output. great value

Cons: thought it could use rubber feet to give it shock absorption and some elevation for cooling the bottom.

Don't know much about amps - but it sounds great (in bridged mode) with a kicker 10" sub - doesn't overheat, doesn't cut out once installed properly, good reputable power for the price. My bass combo won't rock out the neighborhood, but it's perfect for someone looking to upgrade the factory system and get some solid bass.

Pros: Price Power Reputation Brand Name Doesn't cut out/overheat

Cons: None yet.

Bang for the buck.

Considering the price I gave for this amp it is well worth the money. It is more than enough power for one 10" Rockford sub when bridged. I used an unported box and stuffed it with cotton. It seems to get the job done with little distortion. This kept me well within the budget I wanted to spend.

Really amazed for the budget price. I purchased 2 of these amps. 1 drives a pair of BA S95 and the other drives a JL 10" W1V2 sub in a sealed enclosure. I have the gain for the pair of 6x9 at almost min and the gain for the sub at 1/2 gain and am able to drive at 100% volume with no distortion, except for the rattle in a budget friendly 93 Olds Ciera. Highly recommend this amp to the budget minded consumer.

Pros: Price and power range for budget friendly work car

Cons: No dislikes for intended use

Time will tell, but presently it is doing a great job driving one 8" kicker sub in a non ported enclosure with plenty of power to spare. Very clean sound.

Cons: As with any amp I've ever encountered, the power terminals are too small to accommodate proper terminal ends for the appropriate gauge wire.

...this amp rocks! I had two sub-woofers just hanging out in the attic collecting dust, and I noticed the Kenwood KAC 5204 when I'd purchased with the KDC- 248U....these two are a happily married couple now! For the price, you can't go wrong with it. I thought I would run into a road block when it came to "bridging" the two woofers however, the instructions provided, it was right the first time. Ordered 2 of them, one to power the front door 3 way 5 1/4" Kenwoods and one to power 4 way 6x9 Kenwwods in the rear deck of my '98 Bonneville. My head unit is a Kenwood KDC-X595 and I have a powered 10 inch Bazooka Bass tube in the trunk. I don't own an Ipod so I loaded all of my music on a 8 gig thumb drive which the head unit plays like a dream. It took some tinkering around to get the system dialed in, but let me tell you this system is one of the best I've heard ANYWHERE! The bass is super clean and tight, when I crank it the images in the rear and side view mirrors get fuzzy and you can feel it right down to your bones, while being crystal clear. "La Villa Strangiato" by Rush cranked up to 30 will make you see the world in a new light. Guess whose car we have to take on all roadtrips, my friends think I'm a God. For the money you can't go wrong, order yours today.

Great amp for the money. I used the speaker inputs spliced from the rear speakers in my 08 Malibu and use the amp bridged powering a vintage 10" Oz Audio sub in a small sealed box. The bass output is perfect for the stock stereo, although not enough to impress/annoy the neighbors it sounds great inside the car.

This amp does exactly what they say it does. I found this amp on several sites some for a few dollars less, but crutchfield is a well known reliable company. it was delivered in 2 days, and had great instructions. Easy to hook up, and im no expert. powering an old 10" Jensen sub on bridged mode and it sounds great. Not breaking any records, but my slipknot sounds awsome, just a nice tight thump in all music. very happy. dont hesitate this amp works flawlessly.

Excellent for speakers, little weak for a 12" sub

Written by: Andrew from Lima, OH on April 6, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, I purchased this amp with the intention of driving one 12" sub. On sale, the price wasn't even comparable to anything out there, with exception to all of the "1100 watt" no-name, peak-rated amps that litter online retailers. Teamed with free shipping, you simply couldn't touch this deal for a CEA-2006 compliant amp rated @ 150 watts RMS. With limited settings on the amp, setting the gain took mere minutes and with a flick of the low pass filter switch, I was ready to go. In my findings, this amp would be better utilized for 2 speakers @ 60 watts VS a 12" sub @ 150 watts. My preamp outs from my deck were 4V and I had to set the gain to just a little over 1V to even get an acceptable thump out of my sub. That said, there was more distortion @ (IMO) reasonable volumes then I would have expected for 150W. I also found that the amp was getting quite a bit hotter then I felt comfortable with after only 15 to 20 minutes at medium volume. If you're going to be pushing an 8" or 10" sub with a high sensitivity rating, you might still be in good shape. However, I didn't find the 150 watts to be enough to comfortably push a 12". And just for reference, I listen to almost all punk, rock and alternative. Nothing bass-heavy like rap or R&B. I opted to return the amp and upgrade to a Boston Acoustics GTA-400m. Cost almost twice as much, but makes 2.5x the power and isn't even comparable for pushing a 12". The Kenwood may be reliable, but was too underpowered for me.

This MIGHT be a first, but I installed the Kenwood KAC-5204 in my 2008 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic, in the tour pac against the front wall. I changed out the Factory speakers ( 4 ) and installed the Amp, which made a Huge difference. The factory speakers was just ok, but needed some punch and some high end. When I am traveling 65+ mph, sometimes in wind can be a real problem hearing songs, but after installing my new Kenwood KAC-5204, that has all changed. I can now hear all my songs playing through my XM, CD, or FM really Great !!!

My opinion, since I'm no way an audio expert is: that the product performed as function in my '07 Regular Cab Ram, pushing only one sub, a Kicker Comp 10. I have no regreats and would recommend to anyone doing the same. It suits me fine, as I want the bass, but I don't wanna advertise it to the world. Its a healthy upgrade, since I was originally running a Jensen 250W with a Kicker Stillwater Desgin 10", which was over 10 years old.

Features

MOSFET Switching Power Supply: The Kenwood KAC-5204 Two-Channel amplifier is equipped with a MOSFET switching power supply. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise.

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a new system of testing & measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for determining an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured into a 4-ohm load, with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) plus noise, and at a frequency range (for full range amplifiers) of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. The Kenwood KAC-5204 under CEA-2006 regulations is rated at 60 Watts RMS x 2 channels with a 75 dBA signal to noise ratio.

2-Ohm Stable: The amplifier can support a 2-ohm stereo load. The amplifier is rated at 75 watts RMS x 2-channel in 2-ohms.

Bridgeable: The two-channel amplifier can be bridged for a mono 4-ohm load. The amplifier is rated at 150 watts x 1-channel RMS when bridged.

Cast Aluminum Heat Sink: The Kenwood KAC-5204 utilizes a cast aluminum heat sink design to ensure that the amplifier stays at its optimal temperature.

Protection circuitry: The amplifier features protection circuits that will turn the amp off in case of the following events:

  • Speaker output contacts ground.
  • Speaker wire short-circuits.
  • Unit malfunctions and DC is sent to speaker output.
  • Internal temperature is too high.
  • Loss of ground of head unit or amp.

Power Indicator: When the power is turned on to the amplifier, the Power indicator (on top of the amp) will light up red. This indicator will turn off with the amplifier and will turn off if the amplifier goes into protect mode.

Controls

Gain: To accommodate the varying range of signal levels coming from today's factory and aftermarket radios, the Kenwood KAC-7205 features an adjustable gain control (0.2-5.0V). This means that no matter what kind of radio is connected to this amplifier, the appropriate gain control adjustment can be made to ensure loud, clear, distortion-free music.

Low Pass Crossover: The amplifier features a fixed 80Hz (-12dB/oct) low-pass filter which can be turned On or Off.

Connections

Power Connections: The power and ground connections are 0.5625" wide screw terminals that will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The remote turn-on terminal is 0.3125" wide and will accept up to 8-gauge wire. A Phillips-head or flat blade screw driver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. Spade connectors are recommended for the power, ground, and remote wires.

Speaker Outputs: The Kenwood KAC-5204 is equipped with two pair of speaker terminals. All four speaker terminals are 0.3125" wide  screw terminals and will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. A Phillips-head or flat blade screw driver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. Spade connectors are recommended for the speaker wires.

Note: The speaker output terminals can be used in stereo or bridged mode.

Line Level Input: The two-channel amplifier is equipped with a pair of RCA line level inputs.

Speaker-level input: Multi-pin input for use with included speaker level input harness The KAC-5204 comes with a two channel speaker level input harness. Once you splice the speaker wires from the receiver to the harness, you have plug-in convenience to the amplifier. This feature makes it easier to add an amplifier to a factory radio or to a receiver with no preamp outputs. The maximum power output from the source receiver can be no more than 40 watts.

Fuse: The amplifier is equipped with a 25-amp ATC fuse.
