Weather-resistant protection for music on the go

Conformal coating protects the internal circuits from water and dirt, so the show will always go on, even through the roughest conditions. The speaker output terminals feature plastic-covered plugs that provide further protection for those connections.

High-level inputs ease installation

The KAC-M3004 will accept a signal from just about any source, whether you're using RCA cables from an aftermarket receiver or speaker wires from a factory radio. When you use the speaker-level inputs, the amplifier will sense the signal and turn itself on, so you won't need to run a remote turn-on lead to your car stereo.

Features

Compact Amplifier: The Kenwood KAC-M3004 compact Class D 4-channel amplifier is designed to boost the output and clarity of your car stereo. The amp features a conformal coating on the circuit board to protect it from moisture. This allows you to use the amp for motorcycles, marine applications, or on All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The KAC-M3004 delivers 50 watts RMS x 4 channels at 4 ohms. It also gives you 75 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms, or 150 watts RMS x 2 channels at 4 ohms bridged.

Protection Circuitry: The amplifier features protection circuitry for thermal overload, DC offset, and short circuits. The amp stops operating when it goes into protection mode. (There are no LED indicators.)

Signal-sensing Turn-on: When the amplifier is connected to a factory head unit, or an aftermarket unit without preamp outputs, you can splice the head unit's speaker wires to a speaker-to-male RCA adapter. In this case, the amplifier's Signal-sensing Turn-on feature will turn on the amp when a signal is detected on the input. This eliminates the need to connect a turn-on lead to the amp's Power Control (blue) wire.

Crossover: The four-channel amp is separated into two halves, labeled A and B. The A and B sections have independent crossovers. Each crossover can be set for high-pass or low-pass operation, or turned off for full range operation. Each crossover has a continuously variable crossover point (50 to 200 Hz) with a slope of 12dB/octave.

Mounting: The KAC-M3004 can be mounted onto an installation board (5/8" thick or more) using the supplied M4 x 16mm self-tapping screws. Two 13.5" plastic wire ties are included for securing the amplifier to a 2x4 board or other narrow item.

Connections

Power/Power Control Connections: The power, ground, and power control connections are 0.35" wide screw terminals. A Phillips-head or flat blade screw driver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. Spade connectors or ring terminals are recommended. A minimum 10-gauge wire is required for power and ground.

Power Control: The Power Control wire should be connected to the head unit's remote turn-on lead when an aftermarket unit is used. This wire does not need to be connected if you're using speaker level inputs. The Signal-sensing Turn-on feature will turn on the amplifier when an input signal is detected.

Line-Level Inputs: The amplifier is equipped with two pairs of RCA inputs for connecting stereo RCA patch cables from the head unit to the amp. If using a factory head unit, or a unit without preamp outputs, you can splice the speaker wires to an RCA plug, maintaining the same polarity.

Speaker Outputs: The included speaker output harness has eight 16-gauge wires for connecting your speakers to the amp. You can connect the amplifier as a 4-channel system, a high-power 2-channel system, or a 2-channel + subwoofer system. Speaker wiring diagrams for each configuration are printed in the included Installation Guide.

Q
Will this fit behind the factory head unit in a 2023 Toyota Tacoma?
robert  Aug 06, 2023
1 answer
A
We did not research the mounting depth of the stock radio to know how much room is left behind it in the radio cavity. If you are able to get that measurement, we will be happy to check and have advisors who can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 to do this check once if you are able to get that measurement.

Q
What gauge speaker wire should I use for the speaker outputs?
nicholas  Jun 08, 2023
1 answer
A
Using 16-gauge wire would be sufficient for this amplifier.

Q
Will it Carry and compete with a 15 inch sub with Rms at 600/peak at 1200?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your application, I would recommend reaching out to an advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
How hot does this AMP get? I see several installs on Harleys within the fairing. There is minimal airflow with this type of install.
mike  Oct 21, 2020

A
Hi Mike, this amp does put off some heat but, being installed on a motorcycle even with limited air flow should be fine. I would advise you keep the amp away from ambient heat from the engine. On hot days if the amp is in an area of direct heat rising off the engine it could create an issue.Hope this helps.

Q
How do I wire 4 speakers ( front and back) and a sub to this receiver?
sandro  Jun 12, 2020

Here is a link to my schematic for the amplifier (you asked for receiver) wired to my Kenwood receiver head, the amp referenced in this question and a powered sub-woofer. https://1drv.ms/b/s!AmGANmeHRo82iKpnNRxABUQdyWOWnQ?e=oWA8Ig Its hand-written so hopefully the scan is clear. As for speakers, here's how they wire.. - All 4 speakers are wired to the Amp speaker outputs (KAC-M3004) - All 4 speaker outputs from the head are wired (RCA plugs) to the Amp speaker inputs. - My powered sub did not need to transit through the Amp (its powered). So, the sub is wired directly to the head unit. - The power and remote signal and antenna wiring is detailed in the drawing and they do a lot of daisy-chaining. I'd advise getting a really nice positive battery terminal post attachment with solid taps for your direct wiring. And be sure to use fuses within a foot of the battery. Ed

Like a Regular 4 channel amp. Except you need one of those (Cant remember name) connected to rear channel outputs. Its a Passive Crossover. Sends the Sub frequencies to the sub. And higher to the stereo. Or you could just get the M3001. And use that to provide the full 300 watts(2ohm) to the sub. Just split the Input signals (RCA using a y-Adapter). Or if using Speaker Level, Just piggyback wires off the rear input leads.

Q
Is a LOC (line out converter) required for this amp if using a factory head unit? I noticed this amp could accept stereo level inputs, does this mean high-level lines from the factory head unit could be spliced into an RCA line and connected to the RCA input?
joseph  Mar 24, 2020

A
No a LOC is not required. It can take a direct speaker level input.

Not sure, sorry. I used a clarion marine head unit and crutchfield rca cables. It went in an old Jeep so my application was a bit simpler. Good luck

You can use 2 of the channels bridged together to power a subwoofer. You should reach out to one of our advisors for more assistance! https://www.crutchfield.com/shopsearch/ir_repeater.html

I connected it to two 6 1/2 mb quart front speakers and two 8 inch rear speakers in my Jeep. Sounds great on them but it's not connected to a sub.

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if those will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
why do they call this a 600 watt amp?
steve  Jun 15, 2015
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: You will notice that the front of this Kenwood amp says "MAX POWER 600W". Kenwood is essentially telling you the peak power of the amp is 600 watts. Of course the RMS power of the amp will always be way less than the peak power. This one is 50 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (75 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms). If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
