If you've been suffering with tired out speakers, Kenwood's Sport Series speakers are a cost-effective way to liven up the sound in your car. The KFC-1664S 3-way 6-1/2" speakers use multiple speaker elements to bring new clarity and enhanced performance to your car audio system.

Each speaker features a polypropylene woofer with a treated cloth surround that delivers full bass while standing up to the heat and humidity in your car. A balanced-dome midrange driver allows vocals and instruments to be heard more distinctly, while the ceramic tweeter supplies the musical details that make your music more exciting. The built-in crossover sends the appropriate frequencies to each element, so you'll hear clean, balanced performance. Grilles are included.

This is just what I needed. From past experience with Crutchfield, I knew I could depend on them for good products and service.

Way Better than stock

Written by: Brad from North Little Rock, AR on January 31, 2014

Bought these to replace door speakers in my wifes 2001 Mazda Protege. They are a nice upgrade from the factory set. Paired them with a pair of Kenwood Excelon KFC-X693 6x9's in the rear deck and a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997 headunit. As many reviews ive seen about the bass being bad they are correct but they knew that when they bought these they are 6.5" not 15" subs. Good clean mids and highs minor distortion at higher volume but i do not intend to blast my stereo all day.

Pros: Very cheap and easy to install, clean clear sound quality at moderate volume (not full volume), voices and instrumentals very crisp.

Cons: Very little bass but was expected 6x9's in rear deck more than compensated for it. After all they are 6.5" not 15" subs

They sound good.. I installed thess in the front doors of my 97 ford F350. I can definitely tell the difference between these and the $80 Kenwoods I have in the rear, I had to use my x-over in my head unit to turn the bass way down on these to get them to sound clear at the same volume as the rears.. As expected, because these were almost half the price. I guess the $80 6.5" Kenwoods have a tweeter that is too tall to fit in my door panel. Or else I would have spent the extra 30 bucks to get the better ones. Still a good speaker.

Pros: Sound good, Look good, Good quality

This set of speakers has great clarity! After using the convenient fit guide to find what I needed to replace in my son's car I ordered a pair for the rear deck. I pulled the dry rotted factory speakers out and replaced them with ease thanks to the included wiring adapters. Not comparing these to the obviously worthless factory speakers, but to other quality speakers I would say they have impressive upper range clarity. The size limits the audible low frequency response. If you have a sub or plan to add one these will be a great match for the high pass filter!

Pros: price, quality, clean sound

Cons: bass reproduction, but hey they aren't subwoofers so I am not really holding this against them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I called on the phone asking for kenwood 3 way speakers and the sales women sold me this. At this point now I wish she offered different speakers, or asked if I wanted better base or something that can handle it when I crank my stereo. But over all on low to med sound they work great, but at high sounds they get distorted. Easy to install with bracket I just had to cut the mounting tabs off and drill and used self tapping screws to hold the brackets on, the wiring they have was a perfect match, I like Crutchfield but I recommend they ask questions like " is the 100 % what you want or can I help you pick out something that might fit your needs better?" If she did, I'd be more happy, but I did ask for kenwood 3 way. Looking now they do offer a better set of kenwood 3way. But over all I may send these to the rear, and get a better set for the front. I'll use crutchfirld because I do like them.

Pros: Good for low to med sounds

Cons: If you crank it, they get distorted.

I bought these speakers with some money I had received or my birthday. Not only were the speakers amazingly easy to install, but the components that were sent to me along with the speakers allowed for the ease of the installation. Easy instructions and no complaints. The speakers sound amazing even for still being hooked up to the stock radio. My stock subwoofer is blown out so it doesn't do the speakers justice, but I plan on disconnecting it this weekend to get a real taste of just the speakers by themselves. Great job Kenwood.

Pros: Crisp and clear, and amazing sound. Easy installation.

reasonably good but not much bass

Written by: Steve from Huntsville, AL on October 9, 2013

They sound pretty decent overall, but are short on bass. I was expecting more, based on the 35-22kHz frequency response specs. No amount of playing with the EQ settings on my Kenwood BT755HD head unit could compensate to my satisfaction and at high volume levels the cones sounded like they were reaching the limit of their travel without really making any discernible bass, so I ended up adding an Kicker 11HS8 compact powered subwoofer to my system. That made a very big improvement. I am not the kind of person that strives to rattle the windows of the car sitting next to me at the stoplight, but I do like all the frequencies to be present in my music. Especially the low ones. In retrospect, it was probably too much to expect much bass out of a 6.5 inch speaker, and I should have planned on needing a subwoofer. And knowing that, maybe I should have gone ahead and kicked it up one more notch to a set of "component" speakers.

Pros: decent sound for the price installation was easy with the supplied hardware

Cons: weak bass response

Great replacement speakers

2001 Chevrolet Astro
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently installed these speakers as a replacement for the factory door speakers in my 2001 Chevy Astro cargo van. Although this vehicle is only a work van, I'm a music fanatic and being on the road for hours on end meant I had to do something about the awful, flat, paper-flapping sound of the original worn-out speakers. I added an Infinity Basslink a while back to add some low end, (this is still an empty metal van so I wasn't looking for perfect acoustics- just better sound,) but that nice clean bass quickly put an emphasis on the "blah" sound of the full range coming from two door speakers. With these Kenwood speakers installed, I now have a MUCH cleaner and clearer music experience while on the go, with a well balanced range of highs, mids, and lows. The speakers produce plenty of volume while being fed from my Kenwood head unit, (35 watt output) and with the speaker harness adapters provided by Crutchfield, installation was a snap. Very happy with this product!

Pros: Great sound, sleek look, easy install.

Cons: None

These sound much better than my factory originals. Installation was easy, and, as always, Crutchfields installation kit made it very easy Recommended. My only caveat is that the treble is a little sharp, but I adjusted that with my head unit.

Pros: Good sound, good price

Cons: A little sharp on the higher frequencies

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall very impressed with the sound quality.

Pros: Easy install. Cruchfield provides all the templates and speaker housings for free, more than you need actually. I have a Chevy 2500 crew cab Silverado and the rear mounts weren't even needed, just a quick swap. Speaker connectors are provided so no splicing. Make sure to buy the conversion wiring harness and it's more than half the cost of what Best Buy was going to charge.

Cons: The free front mounting plates needed some cutting of tabs, so get your small saw ready. I used a hand miter saw, otherwise was easy replacement.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They are good speakers, but it's difficult to get the EQ on the radio balanced just right. I like to drive with all my windows down and I kept blowing the factory speakers, so I got these. They are good, loud and clear, but there's a little rattle from the bass. I just got them, so I'm sure I'll be able to adjust it, but so far that is the only complaint I have.

Cons:

Overall Decent for a 2013 Honda Accord

Written by: Bryan M from Chicago, IL on September 15, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After the break in period of a few days, these speakers sounded very good. Although they are not as good as I had hoped, that is likely due to the shortcomings of the OEM stereo in my 2013 Honda Accord LX. I get a very good bass response and the higher ranges seem to be more clear than the OEM speakers as well. The lower power requirements of these speakers seem to be a better match for the OEM stereo than the 5.25 inch Rockford Fosgates I had to return. Overall, I am happy with them. Regarding installation on the Accord, as Crutchfield indicates, an adapter bracket is required. The stock speakers are around 6.5 inch so if you own an Accord, do not buy 5.25 inch speakers as they will require a plastic ring to cover the open area between the speaker edge and the adapter bracket. Just buy a bigger speaker as you'll get better bass from the larger woofer. Also, the screws that come with the speakers will not work on the Accord. I used 1/8 inch diameter, 3/4 inch long bolt and nut. This required that I drill larger holes in the adapter bracket (the screws that come with the speakers also will require you drill the holes bigger). Also, pay attention to the adapter wire Crutchfield provides. The included instructions had the positive (+) and negative connections backwards. Lastly, at the time of this review, CF did not have a Master sheet for the 2013 but provided the 2012 to me and separate photos for the 2013. The model years are somewhat different.

Pros: Good sound for the money

Cons: Highs could be clearer

I received these as a gift to replace the factory speakers in my '98 Blazer. For the price these offer great sound. However, the bass is lacking and disappears completely at higher volume. This wasn't much of an issue to me personally, as I have an amp and sub that I'll be installing when the weather permits or I can get into my buddy's shop. You're better off buying something else if you want decent bass out of just door speakers. I will be buying another set of these to replace the speakers in the rear doors soon.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great radio at a very good price. This radio is full of great features at a low price which, when Crutchfield's great service is factored in, makes it inexpensive. The HD radio works flawlessly and reception of both AM and FM is great. The ability to utilize an AUX or USB input is another great feature. And the hidden CD slot behind the head unit's drop down door means it'll keep a great deal of dust out of the radio's internals.

Pros: Inexpensive. Great AM/FM reception. Ample power. And now read the list of features....too lengthy to list here.

Cons: The dim-able display offers only one 'step' so, for my eyes, it's either to bright at night and OK in the day, or too dim in the day and OK at night. Not a big deal and not a deal breaker.

2008 Chevrolet Colorado
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As anticipated for the money I spent, these speakers were a minimal improvement over the factory Blaupunkt 15W paper speakers that came with my 2008 Chevy Colorado LT Crew Cab, which had terrible sound to begin with....I hooked 4 of these up to a Planet Audio 150x2 amp, in parallel by side (L & R), giving about ~37.5W RMS per speaker @ 2 ohms. I also tried running them directly from my Pioneer FH-X700BT deck, at ~14W each, and they sounded about the same as the factory speakers. This amp sounded great with my old Boston 6 1/2" speakers I had in a previous vehicle. Even with the Speaker Baffles in the doors, they just don't give much of a punch at all, and the highs leave something to be desired. I added a set of 3/4" Tweeters to make up for it, but the audio quality is still not the level I'd like. For the money I spent, I can't complain too much, as they were an improvement, if only minimal, from the stock speakers. I'll be adding 8" subs in the back seat to give me the bass I want, but I may look at replacing these door speakers for a better mid to high range sound in the future.

Pros: Cheap, easy to install with the included kit from Crutchfield.

Cons: Not much low range to be had, mids sound OK, highs are weak. Recommend buying either a more expensive set of 6-1/2's, or a set of tweeters to offset this shortcoming. Minimal improvement over factory speakers even with an amp.

Nice Speakers, Poor Installation Kit

2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, I like the sound quality of these speakers, but the installation kit provided for the front doors of the 2007 Monte Carlo did not work out at all. The adapters were not needed (nor did they fit), as the speakers fit perfectly in to the mounting plate found on the car. The wiring harness adapter did not come close to plugging in to the factory harness. I had to splice in to the factory wiring and use the wiring that came with the speakers. I also bought a pair of these speakers for the rear deck--the adapter and wiring harness for the rear worked out perfectly. If this came with a harness that worked in the front doors, this would be a five star review.

Pros: Good sound quality for a relatively inexpensive speaker

Cons: Front installation kit did not fit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like many have said they don't have a lot of bass. Not really complaining since this replaced the cheap over-driven speakers up front and the stock Ford speakers someone installed in the rear of my 94 Honda Civic. Happy with them and way better than what was in there to begin with.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these in the front doors of my 98 civic to replace the stock speakers. Also installed a kenwood H/U and jBL 6X9s in the rear deck. I couldnt be more impressed with Crutchfield regarding installation instructions. However, I couldn't be less impressed with the sound quality of the kenwood speakers. I have to really play around with the eq and fader adjustments to even hear them. I wish I had bought a component speaker system for the front but I'm not confident in mounting tweeters.

Pros: Easy installation. Buy from Crutchfield period.

Cons: Sound is non existent and is on par with stock speakers. Save your pennies and buy a pair of component speakers. You get what you pay for.

The very good speakers for the price. However, what really makes this a good deal are the instructions and installation hardward. I bought these to upgrade from stock speakers on a 1998 Accord EX. Sound was much better than stock. Speakers are better for rock/alternative music and not for heavy lows/bass. If you listen to rap or electronic, add a subwoofer to these speakers for the best experience.

Pros: Good mid-high sound quality High build quality

Cons: Weak bass

Good Sound for the Money

Written by: Rick from NJ on October 4, 2012

I bought a pair from another vendor to replace 27 year old factory speakers. (300ZX) Matched to a Kenwood XC596 I purchased from Crutchfield. I am not looking for my glass to shudder or have the car rattle coming down the street and it will not happen with these period. Having said that with only two speakers in the rear the sound is excellent. I used a few of the factory EQ presets to find the sound I want for the music I am playing and it couldn't be better as far as I am concerned. I was checking these reviews to see the general sentiment and if I should go to something different for the front doors. I'll probably add some dynamat.

Pros: Excellent sound for the price.

Cons: None noted

2007 Honda S2000
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2007 Honda S-2000. The choice of speakers to exactly replace the factory speakers are really limited because there just isn't a lot of room to work with. These speakers exactly fit the cutouts provided for the factory speakers. The sound is a lot better. The sound is not something you would get with a set of $200.00 speakers, but if your looking for an easy upgrade with a lot of bang for your buck these are the speakers for you. I am extremely pleased with them

Pros: Exact fit, Great sound improvement over factory speakers

Cons: Not the speakers for a true audiophile. If you are upgrading your receiver or adding an amp these probably aren't for you.

Great speakers for my Dakota

2001 Dodge Dakota
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to replace my factory speakers on my 2001 Dodge Dakota. They came free with a wiring harness and speaker mounts. The speakers work great! And for the price they are awesome. If you have a Dodge Dakota keep in mind you'll have to shave down the factor mounts a little (I used my Ryobi Bench Grinder). I had to make them a little smaller to fit into the speaker mounts that came with the truck. Keep in mind (which I didn't realize till doing my 2nd pair of speakers!!!!) that the plastic mount that is surrounding your factory speakers comes a part. In other words, you can separate the factory speakers and mount, then shave down the new mount and put it in the old mount. I hope that makes sense. :)

Pros: Sounds good

Cons: Cheap

2007 Kia Spectra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers overall are great. I did have a problem with connecting the speakers to the SAP's that came with the speakers at first. But once I found out the SAP's can hold screws without being completely "solid" in being a holder for screws, the installation was easy. The mastersheet was a little difficult to follow, because I believe the plans should show pictures of the product that was ordered, and instructions that come with the product. Now, back to the speakers. The speakers did have a great impact in clarity of sound, which is what I was looking for. There was some better bass than standard speakers, but I know for a fact that an amp and sub will create better bass, but I will purchase those later. I only replaced the front speakers so I could compare the sound quality and bass. As I said at the beginning, the speakers are great overall.

1999 Saab 9-3
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My old Saab 9-3 had worn out rear deck speaker so it was time for replacement. The Kenwood is good value but the frequency range may be optimistic. It doesn't sound like the speaker is capable of producing 30hz bass. The bass sounds muddy and distorted but the mid-range and high are decent. The tiny 3.5" Polk Audio I put up front sounds much tighter and crisper. Crutchfield shipping and sales were exceptional. There was no unpleasant surprise. Everything I needed was included.

Pros: Good value for the price, Crutchfield shipping was prompt and well packed. Everything I needed was included

Cons: Muddy, distorted bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good speakers. I installed onto the rear deck of my RX-7 (I had to cut my stock speaker brackets in order to fit these in). They are being powered by a Kenwood head unit pushing 20 watts rms each and they sound good. I am not getting any distortion even at high volumes but they do not have much bass. Obviously I wasn't looking for base at this level but for some that might be good to know. Overall, perfect speakers for what I wanted.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

[Installed in 2010 Altima 2.5S Sedan non-Bose] These are better than the stock speakers I removed from the Altima's front doors, but not by much. The KFC-1664S speakers' highs seem crisp and bright but the bass is just not there. When I replaced the rears with 6x9 Kenwoods (KFC-6994ps), they were light years better than the stock speakers. I think that spoiled me. With these, the difference is small enough that I wondered why I labored through removing the door panels for so little improvement. That's the reason for the 3 stars. I'm hoping there's enough tweak room in the head-unit's Equalizer, Loudness and Bass settings to improve their performance. Installation was easy using the supplied instructions and there were no surprises as I removed the door panels. I did have to drill new mounting holes for the adapter rings. Once the rings were installed (using the original self-tapping Altima screws), the new speakers bolted right on. As with the Kenwood 6x9's I installed in the rear deck, the supplied speaker wire is very skimpy -- the copper conductor is half as thin as the factory wire. Be gentle or you may get to practice your wire stripping. Note: With help from Crutchfield Advisor "Lefty" and my Nissan Factory Service manual, I deduced the color/polarity of the factory wires where they connect to the speakers as: -- Drivers Front Door: Orange (+), Light Green (-) -- Passenger Front Door: Blue (+), Light Green (-)

Pros: These don't have a whizzer cone like the factory speakers.

Cons: Slightly better than the factory speakers -- had I known this beforehand I wouldn't have replaced the factory speakers.

Overall I'm disappointed in the bass response of the speakers. The clarity and tightness overall is better but the speakers are popping way too early in the bass. A Crutchfield Specialist recommended four of these for my 2001 Intrepid with a factory (non-Infinity) radio. There was absolutely no bass, and they sounded terrible. I put in the old 6 x 9's in the rear and got decent sound out of the front two. I returned one pair which cost me seven or eight bucks. Communication with Crutchfield was great though. Lots of emails, because they sent me four adapter brackets for the front speakers and none for the rear.

Great value over stock!

Written by: Jim from Columbus, OH on July 2, 2012

My GF got me these to improve on the Jensen head unit she got me last year (B Day presents). The Jensen (22W RMS, as I recall) greatly improved the response of the Hyundai stock speakers, but there's only so much you can do with em. I installed the Kenwoods in the front doors, and my lord, what a difference! I've turned the fader toward the front a few notches til I can pick out rear replacements. At equal fade, the stock rears distorted at about 65% volume; the Kenwoods were clear up til about 90%. At that point the distortion in the Kenwoods might be the receiver's power limit rather than the speakers' fault. They're very clear! It ain't a fancy crossover laced sub thumping eardrum splitter, but for the money (a great value) it's worth it! If you are on a tight budget but want a real improvement in sound, these are a wonderful pair. It really is night and day difference. Also, Crutchfield's adapters and instructions were spot on. Took me about 40 minutes to install both and to fiddle with the stereo adjustment, including interruption by my nosy neighbor burning up about 10 minutes of precious daylight. Now I need to pick out a complementing set of rears!

Pros: crisp, clean sound, decent bass, great price, big cost-effective improvement over stock 2005 Hyundai Elantra front speakers.

Cons: none, really. If you spend another $200-500 on speakers and amps and so forth, it would blow this stuff away.
