Q
Do I need this cable in place of a standard iPhone cable to get CarPlay to work?
timothy  May 27, 2021

A
The Kenwood iPhone cable is not required, but a car grade cable should be used with this receiver to connect an iPhone for Apple CarPlay interface

Would this enable me to listen to music from my iPhone on KDC-MP435U? If not this wire, is there another way to connect my iPhone to the Kenwood KDC-MP435U?

Lee Ann, As long as your receiver is Carplay enabled and has a USB input, this cable will work. I use mine to connect to a Pioneer 2400 NEX and it's been working great for a year. It's high quality. - Tom

Q
Will this cable work for DNX6990HD? Is this cable functionally any different from a standard USB to lightening cable, like the one that comes with your iPhone?

I bought this cord for my DDX774BH Radio and it works great i dont know if it will work for yours but its a fast charge cable and it lets the picture from pandora and spotify show up in your radio screen.
juan  Nov 26, 2018
A
This cable is supposedly different than standard cables in some way and was supposed to make the stereo talk to phones. It is a far thicker cord, but did not function and different when I tried to use it with my phone. I was never able to get this stereo and my phone to sync up and communicate using any cords.
justin  Nov 25, 2018
A
Functionally it is not different than the cable that is made by Apple. However contrary to the Apple cable it's made to withstand the conditions inside of a car. Over time the Apple cable becomes brittle in the lightning connector area when left inside of a car. The Kenwood cable has withstood way better than the Apple cable.
rafael  Nov 25, 2018
A
No, it's not any different. I purchased it because it's heavier construction and it would stand up constant use in my vehicle. It's the second one I've had.

Q
Will the KCA-IP103 work with iPhone 8 Plus I have the Kenwood KDC-X501?
jeff  Feb 14, 2018
1 answer
A
This cable will work with an iPhone 8 plus! The Kenwood receiver you listed has not been tested that iPhone. But our technical support has not made any notes recommending to not the KDC-X501 with you phone. I would expect it to either mostly or completely work. The Bluetooth in the X501 receiver will definitely work with your phone My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Q
Bought a kenwood ddx272 from you guys and the music doesn't play through a factory iPhone cable but it shows the data on screen, everything else works fine. Do I need to buy this to control and listen to my music on my iPhone 5s? And will it also charge it?

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. If you purchased the unit from us, you can contact our Technical Support for help to fix this issue; you can find the Tech Support number listed on your Crutchfield invoice and/or Mastersheet instructions that were included with your purchase. I hope that helps.

I am experiencing the same issue with my iPhone 5S on both my DNX9990HD and DNX890HD units. It worked up until about 6 months ago and now I see the same symptoms as you described. I hope someone can answer this for us.
michael  Mar 29, 2016
A
This is the same cable you receive when you purchase your iphone the only Difference is it is black and of better quality. If you buy this cable you will end up with the same result(no sound) What you may need is to purchase an audio jack (3.5mm) to plug into the unit and change the source to the radio to the correct option. You should purchase this cable with the other jack for best results. Plug the audio jack in its source and to the iphone and then the plug cable to a power source for charging. I hope this answers your questions and good luck.

Q
Will this work with a DDX512?
warren lopaka  Jan 14, 2016
1 answer
A
The Kenwood DDX512 was discontinued by Kenwood in 2009 so we never had a chance to test compatibility with the Kenwood KCA-IP103 cable which was just introduced in 2014. Your best bet to find out for sure would be to contact Kenwood's Support directly at 800-536-9663. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159

Q
Will this allow audio and video playback on ddx318?
beardo  Jan 04, 2016
1 answer
A
No. The cable does not allow for video. If the receiver had an HDMI input, you could use Apple's lightning to HDMI adaptor, but this unit does not have one.

Q
Will this work on Kenwood DNX6190HD to use iphone 6 Plus? Wanting to have touch screen control of music to radio head?
kelly  Oct 21, 2015

A
Yes, it is a lightning connector at works with iPhones 5, 5s, and 6s. As for control, I think it depends on what you are plugging it into, but I can control on my phone through my kenwood radio or the radio itself.
wesley  Oct 21, 2015
A
To be honest I haven't had the radio in several months and the model I had I believe was different. But with that said, I used the standard USB cable that came with my phone and it worked perfectly fine. I don't think you need to buy the cable from them. I ended up returning it.
joe  Oct 21, 2015
A
Yes - but for some reason Pandora becomes not funcctional on the touch screen and must be operated through the in-dash receiver. Also, beware that for some reason, only the front two speakers work when i use touch-screen/blue-tooth vs. cable for music i keep in my iPhone. The bottom line is the music is most robust when using the cable, but the cable knocks-out the ability to use the touch screen. The blue tooth option is not optimal. I frankly am likely to get a different receiver.
lance  Oct 21, 2015

Yes. I have iPhone 6 and it works fine

Q
Is there a lightning to usb that can play video?
tones  Apr 19, 2015

A
I have the Kenwood DDX372BT and I was able to get video from my iphone 6s to the head unit. It requires additional cables though: Apple lightning to HDMI adapter, a lightning usb cable, an HDMI to RCA cable converter, and the RCA to mini-jack cable that leads into the rear of the head unit. All of these products were purchased off of Crutchfield. Note, if your head unit supports HDMI input then you only need the lightning to HDMI adapter and a lightning cable.

I am not able to honestly answer this question.

I have no idea whether video will work. I use this in my boat, which is merely a runabout. So I only use audio.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I do not show there are any adapters to make the new iPod/iPhone with the lightning connector work with the Kenwood DNX-6160 DVD/Navigation Receiver. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
Hi. Is this cable compatible with the kenwood kiv-bt901 head unit? I have an iPhone 5 and kenwood recommends using the older kca ip-202 cable with an adapter to fit the iPhone 5. I would rather get this instead if it works. Thanks
oscar  Dec 17, 2014

Well I just bought this rather pricey cable for my kenwood bt901 to connect my iPhone 5 because I was informed, on this page, that it would be compatible but it's not. The head unit reads my iPhone and even displays artist photo on the display but sadly does not play back audio. Could it be that the Lightning cable can't transfer digital audio from iphone to the head unit because it only accepts analog audio? I just wasted money on this overpriced Lightning cable. Thanks
oscar  Jan 31, 2015
A
I bought the one u prefer and it works great. Seems strange they would recommend old model and adapter. One thing I don't like - when playing pandora, u only cAn control from head unit. Phone becomes just an appliance thAt u can't use unless u unplug the cord and then re plug in.
lance  Dec 18, 2014
A
Yes this cable will work for that Kenwood radio.
