Kenwood Excelon car stereos offer strong performance with the assurance of a 2-year warranty. The KDC-X395 CD receiver is the junior member of the Excelon lineup, but it includes features and functionality designed for avid car audio fans, including a front-panel USB input, high-voltage preamp outputs, and other options for system expansion.

KDC-X395

Ready to go with your iPod®

Connect your player to the receiver's front-panel USB input, then press the "iPod" button to the right of the main control knob to access your player. Kenwood makes it so easy to navigate your tracks and playlists — dedicated "Search" and "Return" keys limit the need to work through menus when you're looking for a specific song.

You can also switch quickly to "passenger mode" to control your iPod or iPhone® from the device, useful if you're listening to streaming content like Internet radio stations. Once your iPod's connected, this Kenwood uses its own digital-to-analog converter to turn digital files into music, so you'll hear cleaner sound with less noise.

Plenty of entertainment options

The front-panel auxiliary input offers an instant connection for a satellite radio or another sound source. You can play all kinds of CDs, even discs that you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files. You can add a Kenwood HD Radio™ tuner or satellite radio to experience the best in radio. Kenwood's optional Bluetooth® adapter gives you the added safety of hands-free calling with compatible phones — just touch a button to answer a call and keep your hands on the wheel while you talk.

System building

rear panel

If you're adding outboard amps, you'll appreciate the clean signal from the three sets of 4-volt preamp outputs. The System E's crossover offers high- and low-pass filters, so you can trim low bass out of your speakers and adjust the character of your bass.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Kenwood stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and this Kenwood, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Got this on a close out. Cant beat Kenwood quality and the 2 yr warranty on the Excelon models. Very easy to install in my 1998 Honda Accord, had it done in a couple hours with the wiring matching up perfectly. Great sound! The Aux input works great with an Android phone for music and so does the USB input. Definantly recommend this unit.

Pros: 2 yr warranty, USB and Front AUX input. 3 RCA's 1 sub and 2 standard.

    Cons: No switchable illumination

    Great.... At first..... Then quit

The head unit looks nice, feels nice, and worked great for a few months. Then, the other day, it randomly shut off and won't turn on. It isn't the fuses because they weren't blown (changed them to be safe), checked all of my wiring, and it still won't work.

    Pros: Cheap, works ok

    Cons: Broke in 6 months.

This was an awesome head unit except it had trouble reading the USB. Finally, today, it couldn't read the USB and when I reset it, it won't turn back on.. so no music... very very bad! My buddy has a brand new kenwood that's not working also.. I think I'm going to find a different brand..

Pros: Great sound and easy to use

Bought this as a scratch and dent item for my 2000 trail blazer. The item came in mint condition, I saw nothing wrong with it and was a great value. Definitely looks nice and is easy to use.

Great head-unit, has plenty of power to drive mids and highs, plenty of pre-outs for amps. Lots of setting to tailor bass output to your liking. Has crossover for front and rear speakers, subwoofer level control. Way more features than can be mentioned here. I am definitely impressed with this receiver, especially at this price point. Worth checking out for your daily driver.

Pros: Many settings to tailor your sound, plenty of built in power for most mids and highs, great for the money

    Cons: so far no cons,

I've installed Alpines and Sonys for the same price and the Kenwood beats them hands down. The RMS power is slightly higher and the peak is slightly lower. For those of you that don't know what that means, in simple terms, RMS is average loudness and peak is little spikes in volume. Personally, I'd rather have higher average loudness for overall fullness. The EQ options on this unit are much more customizable than the equivalent competition as well. No presets, which is a good thing, cuz every sound situation is different and needs to be dialed in by you to your liking. The illuminated aux and usb ports is key for night time patching. Also, the little door over the inputs is way better than the rubber plugs that competitors offer. Pretty well built, not the strongest feeling buttons, but I don't suspect any issues. If you're spending $100 on a unit, I'd highly recommend the kenwood.

Pros: Illuminated USB and AUX ports. Swivel door on inputs. Easy to use

Cons: No hard-case for faceplate. Dimming within unit only, no wire to hook up to car. Buttons could be stronger, but they aren't weak.

Biggest waste of my time. I did everything exactly how the instructions said and had no power or sound. Installing this was way harder then it should have been. All the mounting pieces barely fit and i had to do things differently than the instructions said just to get it to mount properly. I then had a guy who puts stereos in cars for a living check it out. He said everything was good and should work. I tried again by powering it from the ignition wire of my car since this was the only way i could get it to come on. After everything was working i tried playing a CD and the radio, and it had terrible sound. I called customer service and they told me to adjust the GMOS. So i did. Again the sound quality was terrible no matter what volume i had it on. I then tried customer service again and ran through everything to make sure i did everything right. (customer service also had me do a few things that were completely opposite of the directions). With my third try the sound was still terrible. (My factory stereo had amazing sound quality). So I'm returning this and buying a better stereo for the same price. I'm also not surprised that the Kenwood KDC X595 is discontinued and also how many people have already returned this stereo.

    Pros: NOTHING.

Cons: Everything about it. Extremely small buttons too. Not worth the price

I love the kenwood products, this is probably the 5th head unit I have purchased from Crutchfield, You can't beat the price and installation accessories make it easy to install with simple hand tools. The installation sheet makes it easy (a factory manual helps)

Pros: I thought the single knob would make it difficult but its so easy to tune and adjust the settings the way you want.

Cons: only wish it had a dimmer feature to attach to the factory wiring but it's not excessively bright or distracting at night.

I finished the install of this unit this afternoon and was blown away by the fact that it not only worked but worked great! I installed 8 track deck units and speakers in my dad's business in the 70's. I haven't done one since and was completely sure I would blow up my factory Bose system in my 2003 Suburban. Now the truck is ready to be put to pasture as a work truck around my gentleman's horse ranch on the weekends so I figured what the heck, I don't need a radio to pick up lumber from Home Depot! So the unit came in last night along with the Crux module. I opened it up and read the instructions. Now for a young guy all this stuff may have seemed simple but for an old coot it looked pretty daunting. And the instructions from the Crux box required taking off the reading glasses and putting the eye ball on the sheet. But I made it through (my wife brought me her sewing magnifying glass) and I wired that harness up. Struggled a little getting the old unit out simply because I forgot about reaching in behind the unit and stretching the wires up so I could get to the leads. A little more hand strength would have come in handy. Anyway, got it out, hooked up the harness and put the negative cable back on the battery. Turned the key and the darn thing worked! Not only did it work it sounded awesome while it was still hanging out of the dash! Buttoned it all up and took it for a spin. 100x better sound than the old unit. Not bad being 40 years out of practice! Buy it!

Pros: I had to call Customer Service (AJ) and ask him why I didn't have a matching orange wire on my Kenwood harness. He didn't even try to make me feel stupid! He listened to my other dumb questions and patiently answered them. After I talked to AJ I felt empowered to finish the harness and finish the install. Thanks AJ!

Cons: I have not figured out why my Galaxy will not play Pandora through the USB port. My iPhone works great. Probably operator error. No other issues!

This is the 3rd Kenwood reciever that I have owned and the second KDC-X395. The most recent application i installed was in my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the upgraded factory Infinity system. Install was easy on this, but previous installed one in my 2000 Cadillac Escalade, and the install sheet help ALOT!.

Unlike the Escalade with the Bose setup, the Jeep did not required bypassing the amp or using an interface, so it bolted right in. With the factory speakers and amp in place, the sound already was much better! I like the 3 amp outputs there which really help build my system. I didnt get too crazy with the most recent one in the Jeep only adding a single 12" sub with a 750w amp. The sub combined with the factory amp and speakers sounds AMAZING! this is the best sounding system ive had in a vehicle... not the loudest, but the best sounding. I had a much bigger setup in the 2000 Escalade which i used an interface (bought through Crutchfield) with 2 12" subs pushed by a 1200w amp and 2 additional 6x9's puched by a 250 watt amp, with still an additional output for another amp!

Comparable to the other Kenwood reciever i had, this one is much more user friendly, and the Ipod interface works great!

I love this headunit, which is why i bought it twice for 2 different vehicles and have recommended it to friends looking for great sound on a budget. For the price and the additional stuff Crutchfield provides, its the best deal out there!

Pros: Great value for the price. User friendly with great Ipod interface. 3 amp outputs.

Cons: Not as "flashy" as others (single color display).

It's wasn't really hard to install it hooked up to my amp and sub and speakers and controls them very nicely. Looks nice but I wish I had got one with more than one color. And the instal kit it comes with looks very nice and fits perfectly.

Pros: Sounds great, has plenty of sound features, plays from iPhone while charging, you can use music app while plugged in or you can use the decks controls. I never installed a deck or radio and I did this by myself just fine.

Cons: Only lights up blue, the text could be easier to read

The cd changer in my original radio of my 2001 Nissan Xterra decided to stop working so I decided to replace it. I wasn't looking for anything special and have heard all good things about Crutchfield so I decided to give it a shot. I haven't installed a radio for 15 plus years but the kit and instructions that Crutchfield supplied were top notch. The radio itself was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a radio with a cd player, but having the usb and aux in on this radio has made the deal all that much better. I'm not a huge audio guy but like to crank the tunes once in a while. This Kenwood puts out some decent sound through my factory speakers. I based my purchase on previous reviews of this radio and so far I've been extremely satisfied. I would definately recommend and purchase from Crutchfield again if the need arises. The install went smooth, the fit and finish of the radio looks extremely clean. Overall between the service and selection from Crutchfield, the radio, and the installation process I am extremely satisfied. I normally do not do reviews for products I purchase online but felt this experience should be noted!

Pros: USB and ipod connectivity. Excellent power and sound. Clean nice looking finished installation. Radio has the features I was looking for at a very good price.

Cons: None thus far. I'm completely satisfied!

I ordinarily lack the patience, skill, and mindset to take on do it yourself jobs, but I can honestly say that Crutchfield made this experience simple and fun. Installing the receiver, and 4 speakers took me 2.5 hours and would've been much faster had I not been working outside in the dark in the dead of winter! Everything sounds fantastic. I have the EQ set to one of the automatic settings and it suits my needs perfectly. I really like this receiver, and it works well with my IPhone. Navigating music on the IPhone through the receiver is a chore, but there is a setting where you navigate through the phone itself. The buttons on the receiver are a little small and it is a bit complicated to navigate, but with time, I will get it.

Pros: Ease of installation. Great sound.

Cons: Buttons are small. Confusing navigation.

While I think Kenwood has always been a top notch audio company,I believe in my opinion this design could have been more user friendly. That being siad I picked it,so I'm to blame for any "flaws" I did not foresee. I'm speaking ONLY of the size of the buttons that are cramped on the far left side. They are extremely small and hard to use while driving. If I have to take my eyes off the road to look for more than a second or two, then its too long.A second "knob" type utility like the Volume/function knob would have been easier to use,and keep your fingers on to select useage. Overall the unit looks great! The sound is great considering the Max power and RMS ratings. I put this headunit in a 2003 Ranger Edge, and it fit perfectly THANKS to CRUTCHFIELD! Dont judge your purchase on my one "gripe". Just being honest, but for the buck its a good buy.

Just put this radio into an 04 ford explorer. Bought this unit the day after Christmas and was delivered to my door the next afternoon. All of the directions were to the point and very easy to read. The unit does everything that you would expect and more. I now have a Kenwood amp and 2 12" subs in a box in the trunk connected to this radio. Installation was a breeze. I think i spent more time fixing the fuse holder attached to the amp then installing the radio. Splicing existing wires with the new radio didn't take 15 minutes. Not a bad thing to say about the radio, the subs, or the amp. Everything went perfectly!! I would recommend this radio to anyone. My favorite part about Crutchfield products is the directions and assistance they give all their customers from the get-go. I love this radio!!

Pros: Easy installation, excellent directions, looks BA, louder than anticipated, 6 channel was a perfect fit for my system.

    Cons: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!

Ahhhh..., the 17 year old daughter with an i-phone and an outdated factory car audio system. Tragic to her and a constant reminder for me. Crutchfield offered the perfect solution that met every criteria my daughter had for her perfect car audio system. The Excelon KDC-X395 has Bluetooth, USB interface for the i-phone, CD player and digital FM/AM reciever. Fantastic price for all the features.

Great Head Unit. I have bought 2 of them for 2 different cars, one for me and one for my dad's car after I saw how well it worked in my car.

I was attracted to it because of its capabilities for building a system. I started off by just adding the head unit, but I still had factory speakers, then I added Rockford Fosgate Speakers later on. After that I got a 4 channel alpine amp for the speakers and a 2 channel alpine amp for my alpine sub. It sounds great now. Very impressed. But it sounded great even with my factory speakers. It was a huge difference in sound quality, as should be expected when adding any aftermarket head unit.

After I saw how good the Head Unit was, I put one in my dad's car with Polk Audio speakers. It sounds excellent as well. I really like the fact that it has 4v preamp outputs, and that it has 3 of them. I also like how you can tailor it to your specific setup with the equalizers and everything. Most of the other head units in this price range do not feature this, they just have preset equalization options. For the price it can't be beat. Best entry-level head unit on the market. Definitely recommend for someone who is on a budget, but needs a head unit that can grow with your system.

Pros: 3 4-volt Preamp Outputs, equalizers, sound quality, easy to use, price

Cons: I wish it could change colors like a lot of the other head units. Small complaint, definitely not a deal breaker. Buy it now.

So far this radio is amazing The sound quality is better than the stock one on my 01 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab. With the new stereo I'm able to pick up stations i could barely hear with my old one like they are down the street. It was about what I expected when installing because i had to do things like solder wires and install the brackets for it. Currently i'm only really using 2 Rockford Fosgate prime speakers in my front doors because the back 2 are busted and make bad rattling sounds but the front sounds amazing. I just cant wait to install the rear ones. Anyways I would highly reccomend this head unit to anyone wanting to build their own audio system.

Pros: Looks good Sounds good Picks up radio great Can be hidden easily with detachable faceplate works good with an ipod

Cons: Not super easy to install but probably average a little difficult to navigate through songs and stations

My last kenwood just died (mechanical failure of the auto-flipping faceplate) at 7 years old. I wanted another kenwood that would work with my existing Sirius module and the X395 does. I try to keep in mind what i paid for this (not much) but this is not a great receiver. It's good enough though. Remember, if you're going to spend an afternoon ripping apart your dashboard, crimping wires etc, plus using the device everyday it may be worth it to you to spend a little more for something nicer. The single-line display looks like an 80s calculator. Sound quality is just OK but i don't have great speakers. It doesn't have a dimmer lead and is very bright at night. The display text can be dimmed 1 level but it's buried in the menu. The menu controls are not intuitive at all. THERE'S ONE GLOBAL EQ (bass/mid/treb) SETTING ACROSS ALL INPUTS. Every source sounds different so who wants the same bass level across tuner/ipod/aux/sirius/cd?? Ridiculous when you think it really doesn't cost to add that. Plus just getting to the sound settings is 6 button presses winding through the menu structure. HUH? Oh, and after trying 5 different ipod cables i still get kicked out of ipod mode because the loose usb jack. This sounds like a bad review but i think this is a decent product for someone who just wants a basic receiver and doesn't need to get into the menu much. Someone who likes to use all of the various input sources might be disappointed.

Pros: the remote is nice. Sounds OK, Cheap.

Cons: bad menu structure, no separate EQ settings for each input, unreliable USB jack, very cheap-looking text display and is completely washed out in sunlight.

This Kenwood receiver is a great upgrade to my previous Kenwood unit, which was just a standard CD player and radio. I love that this unit is Ipod compatible and comes with an AUX input and USB input.

Pros: USB and AUX input. Looks cool at night. Sleek. Comes with a soft pouch to store the receiver when not in use. Ipod control.

Cons: Lots of features that most users will probably never use. No mute button.

This is a super stereo. Installed last night in 2 hours. I'm a complete novice. This was my first attempt. Crutchfield convinced me I could to do it myself. The dash kit was easy to assemble, and the wiring harness went like clock work. The challenge for me was figuring out how the stereo connected (fit) into the dash kit. After reading the sketchy dash kit instructions, I kind of figured it out on my own. The posi-connectors suggested by my rep were a plus as I do not solder (an extra $8). Listening to music today after almost 2 months without a car stereo. Wish I had ordered from Crutchfield sooner. Super easy. And everything I needed came with the stereo and for free! And this Kenwood, the rep recommended, "best stereo on the market for the price." I have no complaints and my kids even think it looks like something out of Batman's headquarters (I guess that ranks as a coolness factor). Order from Crutchfield. You'll pay as much elsewhere and you won't get the dash kit, wiring harness, and the free tech support to back it up! A++++ to Crutchfield.

Pros: Nice interface. Good looking stereo. After install, easy to use without reading the manual. Like the built-in USB and AUX inputs. Comes with a 2 year warranty; most of the others I looked at only have 1 year warranty.

Cons: It takes about 5 business days to get something on the West Coast from Virginia. Really have none.

Nice radio for the money. A little hard to make audio adjustments but it does sound very good once you get them where you like. The display is a little wierd, you either have the clock shown or scholling text, it is hard to tell what station number you are on, it only shows for a split second when you first tune to the station. I don't want to sound down on this because it is great value for the sound and options but the volume knob is a deal beaker, I would have sent it back but I had it to long before I installed it and found out. I have glued a rubberband around the knob, If you have rubber fingers you should be OK but I have never met anyone like that yet..

Pros: Great value for the options and sound quality.

Cons: Very small and super duper slippery volume knob. I can't stress this enough. You almost have to experiance it to believe it. The KDX396 has a rubber band?.?.?. Why not the KDX395??

I was looking for a receiver that would be best suited for playing iPod tunes. The hands off mode does not scroll the song that's playing, it just displays the first song title played and does not change. I've not spent a whole lot of time with it and it looks like I need to have the manual open to figure out if I have it set properly. Sound quality is a marked improvement over the factory radio. I will need to change the speakers to get it sounding any better.

Pros: Very easy to install. The harness that was provided worked perfectly. Has both USB and aux port on the front.

Cons: Buttons are really small and you kind of poke at the hoping your hitting the one you want. I have not decided if I'm going to keep it or not.

I have a 2000 Cadillac STS with the Bose double-din stereo. It had a cassette player, a CD player, and controls for the 6-disc changer in the console. To say i needed to upgrade is an understatement. I had bought my wife a Kenwood last year for Christmas and I lusted deeply for that USB port. I opted for a single-din and gained a pocket for stuff. When I installed this thing, i was amazed. It has HD radio plus Pandora connectivity. But i love it for the wide array of adjustments i can make to the sound. I have an 8GB flash drive plugged in, and i could go for MONTHS without hearing the same song twice. Yes, HD radio is nice, but with my own music list chugging away, I choose to never hear another commercial while in my car. Awesome job Kenwood!!!!!!!!!

Pros: 1.Front USB and audio jack ports. I despise sitting in my car listening to ads. NEVER. AGAIN. 2. HD and Pandora radio. I actually did pick up a few extra stations. 3. It gives name and artist for songs on my flash drive AND on radio stations( didn't know that part) 4. Great sound shaping options 5. Hundreds of color options to match your interior lighting 6. Tiny remote sits in my new pocket under the stereo. I lost my steering wheel controls when i switched so i keep my remote handy

Cons: 1. It sounds so good I've blown 2 door speakers. OOPS 2. The GM adapter module i paid for was almost useless. i would say only buy it if you have onstar or other higher tech stuff you may lose. All i really retained from it is my door ding, and when my low fuel light comes on my stereo mutes for 2 seconds instead of me getting a ding. 3. wiring was very tight in my dash. But you always have to be prepared for a little drilling or cutting. 4. What will I do with all my cassettes???

The stereo is great, easy to use and the sound is clear and deep. The only one problem...I have a convertible and when the roof is down, due to the sun, the face of the stereo is just one bright purple color and none of the readings can be seen, so there is a lot of "blind searching" being done while driving. Also, wish there were a separate display for the time...need to purchase a clock to put on the dashboard...actually, even if there were a clock, I doubt I'd be able to see it with the top down.

Easy to install. Only bad part was the factory wiring. I had the aftermarket amps and speakers already, so splitting the harness was a little tricky. I should have just contacted Crutchfield from the beginning to start with. The receiver is awesome, especially for the price. The sound is so much better the the factory.

Pros: Easy to use. Awesome sound. Easy to install. I've always favored Kenwood, so maybe I'm a little biased.

Cons: None on the stereo. The adaptor brackets though could be modular. I also have an aftermarket eq, but need to alter the bracket. Without the proper tools it will not be a clean job. I'll wait for another weekend.

I installed this unit in my 2000 GMC Sierra 4dr truck. I took sufficient time to review the owner's manual as the functionality is selected by pressing and turning the volume knob. After setting up my listening preferences, the unit sounded 1000% better than the OEM CD Receiver. The "STANDBY" function turns the unit off while maintaining the unit backlighting and clock. The installation kit provided by Crutchfield has everything necessary to install the unit. Just a couple of tips: The antenna adapter fit loosely to the unit antenna input. I wrapped both ends with electrical tape to preclude becoming disconnected once installed and prevent metal to metal noise under driving conditions The extra length of wiring from the unit and OEM adapters may need to be tie wrapped to existing wire bundles as you install the unit to move them out of the way and again preclude vibration during normal driving conditions. I used the Posi-Products Car Stereo Connectors to connect the stereo adapters together. They were a breeze to use without using solder, tape, or crimps. The in-dash receiver kit provided by Crutchfield was easy to figure out and the install looked professional once the dash was put back together

Overall, very pleased with this product and Crutchfield support.

I bought this unit almost for the sole purpose of usb functionality. I wanted to load all of my songs to a thumb drive or 2 & play my songs by artist, album or at random. This unit will play songs from a usb drive but the search capabilities, random play and overall reliability are sorely lacking. The documentation that came with the unit is almost non-existent.

The search capability allows you to search by song, album or artist but is extremely flaky. Often while scrolling through your list to find the artist you'd like to play the unit will inexplicably stop & display "NA File" or "No device present" meaning you have to start your search all over again & hope that the unit doesn't go into the Twilight Zone again while you search for Elton John. Sometimes it happens just paging forward to the next song. The random function is hardly random. It seems that it builds a list of songs to play "randomly" and always uses that list to select the order. No matter what you do you will always have the same random order of songs! Kenwood has created a software program to build a database to supposedly improve functionality. It helps, but I am so disappointed with the unit, & I feel stuck with the unit. [$] for the player, [$] dollars for a conversion kit and 100 for an installation and I wish I had my old Sony back. It's a lot of money for what I received. Unfortunately, Crutchfield recommended the unit to me. I won't buy another Kenwood.

Pros: The unit has good sound.

Cons: Functionality is poor. Buttons are small and confusing. Documentation is very weak.

    Great unit, lots of features

Have had it in my 2001 Jeep Wrangler for a couple of weeks now. It has been years since I installed a stereo on my own. I bought the Jeep for a toy and it had a broken Sony in it....this install was a snap with the install kit and instructions. The stereo has ample power for the Infinity speakers I bought and with the top off, no need for an amp or sub, plenty of power from the head unit. I really like the front access USB/AUX input for my IPhone or other item. All around, a great unit and for a really good price.

    Pros:

    Cons: none noted

Pros: Works well with stock speakers, awesome sound, many usable features

Cons: buttons on the face of the unit are very small, but you can overcome this by learning to use the remote

Great sound. Always loved Kenwood car stereos. This has a much better bass sound with my sub than the Sony I replaced with this. The 4v pre outs are noticeably stronger than the 2v.

Pros: Good sub bass. Strong 4v pre outs

Cons: Would like the option to change the display colors.

This is a pretty good system for the price. I replaced a factory radio with this unit and immediately heard a difference in sound quality. The one issue I have is that this unit has no bass. I installed an amp and subwoofer and the sound is now great.

Pros: Great price, great value. Good sound.

Cons: No bass No android support

I talked with an advisor and he recommended this Kenwood as an upgrade for an outstanding value and sound quality for what I wanted and was he ever correct! It's an amazing Radio CD player plus for the price. I'm extremely satisfied with this Kenwood. The sound is incredible and the features are unbelievable.

Pros: Great sound and incredible features especially for the price. And it's a very cool looking/sounding unit. I'm very very impressed.

    Cons: Haven't found any yet.

Sound quality is good., and I've never had a problem with a Kenwood, so I'm not worried about it. I've had the unit for two weeks. Easy install with Crutchfield's kit. Flash drive works without the optional adapter cable, so I'm very pleased with that. My only complaint is that the USB can only have a max of 255 folders, with a max of 255 songs each. If a maximum number of gigabytes of music were allowed instead of the max number of files system, I would not have had to pool all of my songs from each artist into one folder per artist so that I can have more room. So that is a bit of a pain, although you can fit tons of music on there if you do it that way.

I just installed this new head unit in my 2008 Dodge Ram. It is definitely an upgrade over the factory stereo, and the factory stereo sounded pretty good. The new unit has a lot more power and is easily upgradable add (subwoofer, amp, etc.). Ordering from Crutchfield was definitely a big advantage since they ensured that I had everything I needed to do the install, from the correct wiring harness to the right face plate. Once installed the system looks professionally installed and sounds great.

Pros: Easy to install, upgradable, nice power (22 watts RMS)

Cons: It takes a while to learn how to use all of the controls , such as how to search for for songs, etc. The unit allows you to do a lot but it could be simpler. Kenwood should talk to Apple about simplifying the process a little bit.

The more I learn about this unit the better I like it. I have enjoyed fine tuning this unit to my listening pleasures. It's been fun.

Pros: Good sound quality for the price. Looks nice in my 3000gt. Easy to use. Installation to the factory amp was simple. I did check with Customer service just to check behine myself. A 4 minute conversation and I felt cool.

Cons: The face plate was a little too wide in the 4" opening. I can live with it. I think the standby is the off mode.

Needed a replacement for a 02 Toyota Avalon with factory installed JBL system. Installion kit and instructions were simple and easy to follow. Basically plug & play. Ran into a problem with delayed sound volume which seemed to require a few seconds to fully ramp up. Did contact Crutchfield Tec advisor for assistance. Got several possible suggestions, but problem did not go away. Car has been sold and new owner was not bothered by delayed volume.

    Pros: Price & easy installation

Cons: delayed sound volume when turned on

I purchased this receiver to replace a Dual Receiver sent by Crutchfield. Their satisfaction guaranteed policy is definitely superb. I wasn't happy with my first choice and Crutchfield took care of my concerns immediately and recommended this new Kenwood receiver. The Dual's display was very dim and you could not read it when the sun was out. This Kenwood receiver's display is very bright. It was super easy to install and it sounds wonderful. I purchase a Kenwood Special Cable to connect my stand-alone satellite radio to the unit in the back versus the AUX Port on the front. The satellite radio is available when you select the CD changer; however, this is no problem to operate. The Dual just had a Bass and Treble adjustments only. This receiver has many sound and equalization choices. I'm going to have to give the manual a good read and practice to get things right. When things are right; however, it sounds wonderful and has a lot of power for my little car. You have the option of adding a bunch of separate amplifies to this unit, including a sub-woofer. I am saving those options for the future; but I think it sounds wonderful enough right now. A very, very good receiver for the money!

Pros: Great Sound. Ability to attach up to five additional amplifiers. Bright and readable display

Cons: Sound frequency adjustment is somewhat complex. A good read of the manual is required.

After listening to this head unit in my work truck (an '07 Peterbilt) playing through the stock speakers and single 10' sub with Fosgate Punch amp, I was amazed at the sound quality, and loved the easy-to-use features and EQ options. So I decided to get one for my pickup, an '04 F-150 along with some Polk Audio 5x7s for all four doors. Couldn't believe the price, under $300 for everything! Included installation instructions made everything a breeze. Thanks Crutchfield, you made a customer for life!!!
