2006 Honda Civic LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers for my 2006 Honda Civic LX. With the mounting brackets and wiring harnesses included along with the pdf instructions included, installation was quite simple.

I have never ever done any type of work on a car other than filling fluids and replacing wiper blades. The only time where I felt that the instructions were lacking were how to actually install the speakers to the brackets. But a quick YouTube search along with some guess work and they were installed in a pinch.

They sound great, I'm not a sound professional, but as compared to the buzzing speakers I had, these blow any stock speakers I've heard clear out of the water.

Overall I give it 5 stars, it was easy to install, they came with correct instructions and the parts needed to make them work. They sound far better than any other speakers I've owned in a car. The only con is that the installation instructions were not entirely clear at some moments, but a quick YouTube search and you should be fine. Overall great product and awesome service.

Pros: Easy to install Sound amazing

Cons: Instructions needed just a tad bit more clarity in my opinion

I'd give them zero stars but the system won't allow it. Cheap, tinny, lifeless poor excuse for speakers. Yes, I know they're cheap but c'mon - could they make them sound any worse? Suffered with them for 2 weeks and bought some better ones.

Pros: Nada

Cons: It'll cost you 2x time because you'll install them only to rip them out...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replace stock speakers in 2007 chev 35000. These sound better than the oem speakers by a long measure. Decent bass and decent highs too. these were a direct fit in the rear doors. I also used them in the front doors. I carefully removed the plastic brackets from the stok speakers, then attached the brackets to the new speakers with some carefully placed adhesive, probably not recommended by anyone, but it worked great and it allowed me to finish the install, even though I ordered the wrong speakers for the front door.

Pros: Affordable, sound better than GM junk.

Cons: They didn't install themselves.

Nice replacement for 10 year old factor speakers

Written by: BobL from Pennsylvania on April 6, 2015

2004 GMC Envoy
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a nice replacement for the 10 year old factory speakers in my 2004 GMC Envoy. They sound great, but I guess when only 1 of the 4 factory speakers were actually working, anything would sound better. However, they where tricky getting in. The Scosche SAC-656 Speaker Mounting Brackets Crutchfield sent, in my opinion, didn't work and actually made installing the speakers more difficult and didn't use them for the front speakers. I carefully pried off the plastic support from the factory speakers, enlarged the speaker mounting holes so they would line up with factory mounting adapters holes and used the factory mounts. Also the two of the four Metra 72-4568 Speaker Wiring Harness ends weren't crimped properly and I ended up cutting off the solderless tips and soldering the wires directly to the speakers. Also, there was no information about what to do with the front factory tweeter and speaker harness. I disconnected and cut the factory harness to the front the speakers (including the tweeter?), and left in in place in case I need it in the future. Please be aware that I have been an ASE Mater Technician since 1978, was a GM Master Technician for 27 years before leaving the "cars wars" to be become a certified Automotive Technology instructor, am very particular about how I make car repairs, and it took my extensive skills and too many specialty tools top get these speakers in the way that, in my opinion, replicated the factor installation.

Pros: Nice sound

Cons: Tricky to install Nothing about how to deal with the factory front speaker harness and tweeter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My buddy had bought a new to him truck. The 1st day he showed me his truck I notice the front speakers were not working. That week end I took off the door panel and took the speaker out to do a volt test. I had power to it but no sound. I pushed the speaker back and forth to see if I could get some sound to come out. It worked as long as I held it. "Time for new speakers my friend" I told my friend. I went to my old friends at Crutchfield to see what the had. They had a good package deal on Kenwood so we went for it. Called Crutchfield and talked to Norman. I asked him about the kenwood package to see if it was still available and gave him the year/make/model of the truck. He made sure we had everything we needed to complete the project. For the price of new speakers we got new stereo, harness with door chime, speakers, plastic stereo surround, and antenna adapter. I installed the new system last weekend. The 1st time I turned it on I was impressed on the sound quality. The base was low and the highs sounded great. Kenwood has always been good to me. Now that I have been a fan for 15 years I have been turning my friend into believers as well! Thanks Crutchfield.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are awesome at lower volumes but are highly distorted when cranking up the volume. I bought these due to the recommendation of a Crutchfield service rep and paired them with a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X597. The service rep assured me that these paired together would be efficient, even at higher volumes. Sadly they are not. I would return them but made the mistake of throwing away the original packaging. Unhappy with this purchase, but I'll have to live with them as I'm a college student on a budget.

2012 Kia Soul
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers did not meet my expectations. My factory speakers provided a more complete sound. These Kenwoods do not deliver low signals and starts distorting at very low volume. I have a nice Pioneer head unit that powered my factories very well. I was not expecting subwoofer performance, but at the very least better performance than my paper speakers. The mids and highs were clear and well defined. The magnets were smaller than my factory speakers. I ended up adding a subwoofer to better the sound. I had to filter out the low frequencies on these speakers to prevent distortion. That did the trick and now I have a complete audio system. So, if you buy them think about getting some sort of sub to handle the bass.

Pros: Price

Cons: Poor performance on low frequencies

Pros: Clean mid range sound and fairly accurate high frequency response. Considering the cost the lower range is a great improvement over any standard factory installed speaker.

These speakers replaced OEM Mitsubishi Galant, 6X9 speakers in rear deck. Needed to go smaller in size due to needing a shallow speaker. Was a little hesitant on going smaller, but was pleasantly surprised with the sound. These Kenwoods sound a lot crisper than the original paper speakers. All adapters worked great for installing a smaller speaker. Price was nice as well.

I used the Crutchfield vehicle fit, and I was told that these speakers wouldn't fit. I decided to purchase them anyway. The speakers fit in the OEM adapters, however the speaker covers for the car didn't fit anymore due to the brackets for the speaker covers were factory installed on the speakers. I am happy with the speakers, and the deck.

Pros: Great for the Money. The speakers are in a car that I consider a classic. Anything sound better than the original.

So the only reason as to why i got these speakers is because Crutchfield had a deal going on. Buy this Kenwood head unit and get these speakers for a steal. Boy am i glad i did. i wouldnt spend the full price on this set thats for sure. I didnt even check to see if these fit my truck. wasnt to worried about it. needless to say my truck had 5.25in speakers in the rear half doors, however somehow these fit the stock mounting holes. not the inside holes either. i was very impressed with the clarity vs my stock set.

2002 Saturn L200
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The factory Saturn speakers removed sounded 10x better than these.

With my new head unit, with the old factory speakers, at a volume level of "25" the speakers were loud and clear, and full range. They actually had some decent midrange and bass for such small 5 1/4 speakers.

The new speakers only reproduce highs, and have to be turned up to "35+" on the same scale to reproduce any volume level close to the factory speakers (with the same head unit). At this level, you are also amplifying all the background noise as well, and they sound horrible. Avoid these things!!!

Pros: Cost? But since they are worthless, I think it was wasted money.

Cons: The time wasted installing these useless things. What a joke they are And yes, they are hooked up correctly, as all the wiring harnesses and adapters were included by Crutchfield.

I always delt with Crutchfield on my other cars & went on line - WOW I saved over $100.00 between the radio, speakers, and ALL the parts i needed to install - bottom line, I AM IN LOVE WITH MY SYSTEM !!!!!!! & saved money, I now know why my customers come back & send friends for the same system !!!!!!

There's a reason these are being given away at a discounted price. There's barely any noticeable difference between these and stock speakers on my Honda Fit '12. They're actually worse when it comes to handling bass as they make cracking noises when playing an average Metal song. Talk about night and day, I just got these new speakers for the front and WOW What a differance these made . You could hear good with the old vr2 speakers but when i put these in i heard what I was missing as far as Audio Quality . Crisp and clear and you hear bass in the front now... I'm impressed , the middle range is where it should be. its as if I have a premimum sound system. The Reciver (kenwood exceleron x595) that I installed two weeks ago improved the system and now with these front kenwood speakers and the rear speakers by kenwood makes thsi car awesome.

Pros: Easy to install and the cutting of the old backing to make these fit went quick due to the dremal tool i used. the included instructions helped a lot. had to cut the conecctors seeing they were missing in the door but I solderd them and heat shrunk them as well. The price was great and for the money you cant go wrong.

Not Actually 6.5-inch Speakers

Written by: Mike M. from Texas on January 17, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently bought a Kenwood receiver and these speakers were bundled into the deal, which overall was a pretty decent value. I'm replacing the entire sound system in my truck, and I am glad that I also ordered a set of Bass Blockers for these, and a powered subwoofer instead of replacement 6x8 rear speakers, for a bit of fulfilling and accurate low-end. You can't expect to get any sort of decent low frequencies out of these for several reasons. Primarily is the fact that the "woofer" cones themselves are in fact only five inches in diameter, which is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than the stated size. The basket itself at its widest point isn't even that large. The 45Hz low frequency claimed is, like many specs you'll find, grossly exaggerated. Specs for audio gear are very often like EPA estimated fuel mileage ratings for vehicles. They represent some sort of theoretical best case scenario which doesn't actually exist in our reality.

Pros: The woofer cones are just about the perfect size to provide some really good midrange, so long as you stifle their movement. The tweeters do their job as expected. However, given all the value-added stuff you get buying anything from Crutchfield, it all tends to even out, at the very least.

Cons: Obviously Kenwood's to blame for the considerable measurement discrepancy. The box actually claims these have 6½-inch woofer cones. These speakers also have some of the smallest magnets I've seen on any aftermarket product of this "magnitude", which means actual power handling is pretty low. I've been a loyal and continually satisfied Crutchfield customer for over 20 years, and also a pretty consistent Kenwood buyer. It seems Kenwood is starting to slip, along with many other companies lately.

Sound excellent when they worked!

Great sounding speakers. Not sure what happened with my speaker but it happens I guess.

Pros: Major upgrade from stock speakers. Got them bundled with the Kenwood dash. Superior clarity.

Cons: Started listening to music one day and noticed nothing was coming from left side. Thought maybe there was a loose wire but made sure everything was connected plus I tested it in another car and it was DEAD. Makes a fuzzing noise when it receives audio. Still aligned properly on the voice coil just makes a fuzzy noise. Had to put the stock speaker back in :(

I've been a fan of Kenwood products for many years. This was the first time I ever purchased Kenwood speakers. I'm returning these after trying to work with them for a month or so. They tend to have a tinny sounding resonance that makes HD Radio sound even worse than it normally is (another subject, but many stations compress the bitrate too much making them sound like low-quality streamed audio). Features

Woofer: The woofer cones are constructed from polypropylene to insure a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. The cones are lightweight and rigid for low distortion and good bass response. Each woofer uses a treated cloth surround.

Tweeter: The speakers use 1" PET balanced dome tweeters. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter; a balanced-dome tweeter produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

Applications: The Kenwood KFC-G1620 can be used in standard 3-hole 6-1/2 installations, 4-hole 6-1/2 installations (common in Fords), and 6-3/4 installations.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

Semi power them by an amp and you'll need a sub to even them out... [ BOO`S SECONDHAN  Feb 13, 2014 ]
Yes, they deliver stong bass considering their size. I was pleasantly suprised by this mainly because i'm used to having 6x9 speakers in the rear of a car,not 6 1/2 inch rounds... hope this helps! [ RANDY  Feb 13, 2014 ]
For an inexpensive coax speaker, they will do just fine. If you expecting to rattle your side mirrors, you are barking up the wrong tree. [ DAN  Feb 13, 2014 ]
I installed two pairs of these with a kenwood deck this summer and they sounded great. As far as bass go they are very good for stock, but if your looking to really be heard and feel the bass you might wanna look into a sub as well. [ JESSE A  Feb 13, 2014 ]
