You not only want great sound from your car speakers, you want them to last. Kenwood's Performance Series speakers feature innovative designs that produce natural-sounding, lively music while standing up to the test of time.

The KFC-1682ie 3-way 6-1/2" speakers feature mica-injected, fiber-texture woofer cones that reproduce the lower frequencies precisely, with urethane surrounds that shrug off the effects of heat and humdity.

Kenwood's Image Enhancer does a great job of banishing fuzziness in the mids and highs. A specially designed oval ring surrounds each 1-3/16" soft-dome tweeter and 1/2" ceramic tweeter to prevent reflected interference, resulting in smoother vocals, wider "sweet spot" dispersion, and less distortion.

1991 Chevrolet Suburban
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

i have 6 of these installed throughout my '91 suburban, with 4 driven by an alpine f300 and installed in the back doors, the other 2 comin off my pioneer 3100ib head unit in my front doors. these things are awesome, they perform way better than i was expectin'. they hit hard enough that people think i have a sub in my truck (i don't), and everyone else complements how clear the sound is. i play mostly country and rock, and they do just fine. i have played rap with the set up, and it just starts to rattel and distort when i crank it up (i guess i need a sub for this prupose). over all great speakers for the price, would definantly buy again!

2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these because they seemed to have good, powerful specs for a cheaper speaker...and so far so good. I use them as part of a 6 speaker set up in an Ext. Cab Silverado with no additional amp or power. They are a little weak on the bass end, and the high's can be a bit too high and irritating, but if you set up your EQ on the receiver that can be fixed. So overall, these are great speakers for the money and I'm very happy with them...just may take some work to get the sound how you like it.

Great Filler Speaker

Written by: nvpowerdoc from Henderson, NV (Las Vegas) on June 12, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used these speakers as part of a 5 channel setup in a Polaris RZR-s UTV (off road vehicle). The fronts in my system were Kenwood's KFC-6982ie and a 300W Pioneer 10" shallow sub, all powered by an Alpine PDX-5 five channel amp. These speakers offer great mids and highs, but are rated at a much lower power level than the KFC-6982ie 6x9's. Don't expect a lot of bass from these speakers, just good vocal fillers. One drawback is that they are really designed for a 6-1/2"opening even though they state they will work on a 6-3/4" opening. The larger opening is achieved by use of the tabs or ears on the outside of the speaker frame. To effectively seal a larger opening (such as mine which was 6-3/4"), I used foam insulating tape on the back side of the speaker frame. Also, I had to bias my amplifier (like setting a fader control) to the front 6x9 speakers, driving these with less power to balance the system. The speakers work great as part of a system, but I would not rely on them solely in a two channel system.

2002 Nissan Frontier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to improve the sound in my Nisan Frontier pickup. The adapter kit that came for the truck did not fit very well and after putting the doors back together I tried them for sound. They gave me about 1/2 the volume of the factory speakers that I removed and almost no bass. Even with the radio set to Loud and the bass turned all the way up there was almost no bass. I actually installed them twice thinking that I must have done something wrong. The wrong thing was buying these speakers, the factory speakers are back in now.

Great speakers - Fits Neons!

Written by: Hunter from Forest Lake, MN on February 5, 2009

These speakers work great and sound great for the price. Lacking a little in bass but they are shallow speakers so I guess it's to be expected. I was going to mount them outside my door molding, but found that they did fit in the factory location of my '95 Neon without any interference with the window or track. I did have to drill new holes to attach them, but that was an easy process as well. Definitely consider if you have shallow depth requirements for you speakers.

1996 Nissan Altima
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are great. I replaced the rear speakers in my 1996 Nissan Altima with these and I am very happy with them. They have a great sound and I can put the volume up pretty high before there is any distortion and by playing with the EQ I can even keep that down. I just wish I could've added the grills that came with them.

Great door replacements for 2009 Camry

2008 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These 6 1/2 inch speakers are a definite improvement over the stock paper 6x9's that were original equipment in my 2009 Camry LE with the standard factory head unit, without JBL. Even though those put out more base, they were lousy for mid-range and highs. Since there are already 6x9's in the back, I was not worried about base, and have seen a tremendous improvement with the Kenwoods with more crisp mid-range and highs. If you are looking for more base, these are not for you, though. The brackets and wires supplied by Crutchfield made the installation a breeze. Also, based on valuable feedback, the baffles worked well with holes cut in them to allow speaker movement. In summary, I would recommend these speakers to anyone with a 2007-2009 Camry that is looking for better sound. Since the rear and dash speakers are extremely difficult to replace, I would recommend just the doors.

Great "filler" Speaker

Written by: renegadeone8 from Torrington, WY on August 1, 2008

Excellent high end and midrange sound. Guitar, snare, cymbals, and vocals are amazingly well represented. Lacking bass but not what they are made for anyway. My rear deck is currently empty (no speakers, no subs.) These two in my front door are the ONLY speakers running with the stock head unit (only about 15 watts RMS). They completely surround you with sound After being so impressed with these I ordered 6x9's that match. Hopefully they will add some bass response, but if not I imagine that they will have the same high sound quality and I will just add some subs to really fill out the lows. I am actually considering buying another pair and building custom kick panel boxes and running all of them off of a small 4 channel amp. I really think they would be impressive given the full potential of their RMS wattage. Great price, Great sound, The value here cant be beat!

2008 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great mids and high with these Kenwoods. Great fit with adapter bracket that was included to fit my 2008 Camry SE. These were a definite improvement to factory 6x9s in door. I wanted to go back with 6x9s but Crutchfield advised against, I see why , factory speakers were thin and molded in a bracket . These really sound good and bring out vocals , factory head unit sounds good but I think these would handle amp nicely .

Features

Image Enhancer: The KFC-1682ie is equipped with Kenwood's Image Enhancer surrounding the tweeters. Its smooth rounded surface eliminates most of the reflected sound waves that would interfere with the direct sound waves coming from the tweeters. The end result is a better dispersion pattern, less distortion, and clear high-frequency reproduction.

Cone Woofers: The woofer cones are fiber-textured Mica Injection-Molded Polypropylene. Uniform mica crystals form an overlapping structure that adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene; the result is reduced distortion and improved reliability. The woofers feature a urethane surround for added bass response and durability.

Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1-3/16" PEI balanced dome tweeter. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. "Balanced dome" tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter.

Super-Flat-Tweeters: The speaker also utilizes a 1/2" ceramic, passive, super-flat-tweeter for added high frequency reproduction.

Applications: The Kenwood KFC-1682ie can be use in 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" speaker fit applications.
