Features Image Enhancer: The KFC-C6882ie is equipped with Kenwood's Image Enhancer surrounding the tweeters and midranges. Its smooth rounded surface eliminates most of the reflected sound waves that would interfere with the direct sound waves coming from the tweeters and/or midranges. The end result is a better dispersion pattern, less distortion, and clear high-frequency reproduction. Cone Woofers: The woofer cones are fiber-textured Mica Injection-Molded Polypropylene. Uniform mica crystals form an overlapping structure that adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene; the result is reduced distortion and improved reliability. The woofers feature a rubber surround for added bass response and durability. Midranges: The speakers have a 1-3/16" PEI balanced dome midrange. The semi-dome midrange has a dome placed inside a cone. "Balanced dome" midranges are semi-dome midranges with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the midranges. Super-Flat-Tweeters: The speaker utilizes a 3/8" ceramic, super-flat-tweeter for high frequency reproduction. Custom Fit: The 6x8" speaker's frame features two additional mounting holes which allows the speaker to fit in 5x7" openings of select Ford and Mazda vehicles. However, for a little over a year, they were being driven off of a Kenwood KDC-X889 head unit only. Due to that I was really not impressed at all compared to the stock 6x8 speakers in my 02' F-150. In fact, they didn't sound as full and seemed flat to me. I recently installed an Alpine PDX-5 amp in my truck and with the amp hooked up, they sound a lot better and they can handle the power and play really loud and clean. I am looking to upgrade to a component system though to really find more potential in sound quality over these. For the money I would say they are a good buy from crutchfield considering the installation accessories and tech support. However, sound is a perceptible characteristic and everyone has different tastes so this is just my take on these speakers; take it for what it is, an opinion based on what sounds good to me! I have always had good luck with Kenwood in both home and car audio and am somewhat "brand loyal" which is another reason I purchased these in the first place. I am looking in to other brands in the future though for component systems. 5 out of 6 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? For speakers alone i found bass was a little weak but not as bad as others are saying. The biggest problem with the low bass response is the speaker baffles that are suggested for them. These speakers are designed to move air in the whole door not just that little baffled area (AKA infinite baffle). In order to fix this you can use an exacto knife to remove a 2-3 inch square in the bottom of the baffle and it solves the problem completely. 3 out of 3 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? I bought 4 and put them in my 2005 Ford Econoline Van along with a Kenwood reciever/CD unit. The speakers fit perfect and the Crutchfield supplied wiring adapter made it easy. The Crutchfield supplied instructions to take the door panels off to get at the speakers were very helpful too, but not the most descriptive. However, I would have fumbled without them. I am very happy with the sound quality also. With the Kenwood reciever/CD unit the sound is tight and full. I love it. 1 out of 1 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? They sound better than the factory speakers definitely, but they don't offer much in the way of base. I do enjoy the sound quality much more with these though. 1 out of 3 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Yes | No 3 out of 5 Clarity, Yes. Base, No. Written By Omer, Sierra madre, CA on Thursday, November 12, 2009 I purchased 2 sets of these nicely-built pair of speakers to replace the deteriorating speakers (4, one in each door) in my trusted Ford Explorer. As expected, it took an effort to remove and install the door trims and the speakers, and I was lucky to have help from my mechanic. When all was done, I was not happy enough with the results. Had it not required so much effort, I would have returned them. The problem is the low end performance. These speakers are severely lacking at the low end, no matter what the spec says, and are not even comparable to the stock speakers in the extent and smoothness of the base frequencies. They are "boomy", at least in a Ford Explorer. Loudness, sensitivity, high and mid-ranges are, however, excellent! You'll need a head unit that can support a sub, in addition to these speakers. For the price, I'd still consider them good speakers, but just be aware of the short coming. 1 out of 2 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Kenwood has always been my #1 choice for speakers in all but a few installs when they wanted the other guys brand. The affordability to "other" name brands can't be beat, they are always way cheaper than most. The specifications speak for themselves. The Sensitivity dB is always 90+, which translates into truer/ cleaner rich sound at all volume settings. The frequency range is generally broader and lower than comparable speakers from the "others", so more music is reproduced to get the whole sound. Unless you want a "Earthquake" system, then a sub(s) is needed. All in all, price vs performance makes Kenwood the right choice everytime for the budget conscience and demanding audiophile. 3 out of 3 people found this helpful Was this review helpful?
