The KFC-X173 6-3/4" full-range speakers feature 3/4" silk dome tweeters that deliver all the high-frequency details without sounding harsh. Because of their specially designed magnetic circuitry and neodymium magnets, these compact tweeters use less steel in their construction than most tweeters, so you'll hear more accurate response.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The quality of materials seem good and on par for speakers in this price range. The sound is good pushed by my Kenwood deck at 20 watts RMS, but at the mfr power rating they will not reach their potential without an amp, which I plan to do in the second phase of building my system. Can't wait to hear them with 100 watts RMS. I've always been partial to Kenwood car audio. Will go with JL HD for the amp. Also, my car required the spacer bracket for the rear door in order bring the speaker all the way out to the door panel. Crutchfield included the bracket with the front pair but not the rear. One call and Crutchfield sent out another bracket. Love all the freebies that came with the speakers and deck that simplified installation significantly.

Pros: Solid build quality and materials for the price Good sound with 20 watts RMS 2 yr warranty Freebies for easier install Chatting with techs

Cons: None. Was a very good experience and received great products.

These speakers are not good. But the Kenwood woofers that come with the set of tweeters are pretty good. I got these and the Kenwood woofers with tweeters. Wish I would've gotten woofers all around.

Pros: Cheap

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Install was straightforward and the kit worked well. These speakers have great bass response and great treble; the mid-range is ok but not a very broad band. They are a vast improvement over the OEM Infinity speakers, which were not this good when they were new and then disintegrated over time. The Kenwood Excelon KFC-X173s sound better now, and hopefully will last better too.

Pros: Easy installation, great response & improvement

Cons: MId-range is ok

Installed in 09 Silverado with a Kenwood DNX-891HD head unit. Sound is very clean and bass comes thru nicely. Brackets that come with speakers will work with the factory hole but it takes a little ingenuity, once I figured out how to get the bracket to work install was a piece of cake

Pros: Sounds clean and good bass

Cons: Would have been nice if someone would have made a bracket to install in backdoors like the one that are made for the front doors

Bought these speakers to replace the awful speakers that came in my 2010 silverado. They fit perfectly with the installation gear provided from crutchfield. The sound wasn't as great as I was hoping for, but still a lot better than what I had. All and all these speakers are worth their price tag.

Pros: Loud and clear.

Cons: Not as much mid bass as I was hoping for.

Nice Upgrade

Written by: Bkrhino from Orland Park,IL on March 23, 2014

Installed four KFC-X173's and the XR900-5 in my 2012 Hyundai Sonata Turbo. I kept the factory head unit with navigation. The sound is really nice and clear. The speakers can take the power without breaking up. I am having a custom 12 inch fiberglass subwoofer box built that will use the Kenwood KFC-XW1200F for bottom end. While the 173's sound really good they are not made for low end bass. I highly recommend these speakers.

Pros: Clarity / smoothness

Cons: They do not produce low end bass, but they are not designed for that purpose.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased with set of speakers to replace the front door speakers in my 2006 Chevy 1500 Silverado Crew Cab. The driver front door speaker was out (common problem). I replaced the stock speakers with the Kenwood Excelon KFC-173 and wow.... I am still using the stock check receiver/cd player, but the sounds is great! Installation guide was about 90% correct. But, there were a few things that the install guide neglected to mention. Mainly that on a 2006 the panels that hole the window and door switched cannot be removed from the front of the door. the back of the panel does pop into a receptacle, but the front is screwed in and can only be removed from inside the door panel. After breaking the first one trying to remove it, I realized that it does not need to come off. Just unplug the connectors.

Pros: Great speakers!

Cons: None

I had them for about a year and they worked great. I did end up blowing one out yesterday but was really happy to hear it was covered under warranty and a new set was shipped out. Was really happy with the customer service. It was no surprise one broke though, I have an amp powering both so I work them pretty hard everyday. I was happy with the sound quality over the life span for sure...

Pros: great sound quality and good bass

Cons: I blew one out about a year in

I bought these speakers for my wife and her 'soccer Mom cruiser'. Speakers are matched with the Kenwood KFC-X693 6x9 speakers in the rear deck, Kenwood DDX-470 head and Clarion XC1410 amp. I installed the speakers before adding the head and amp and gave them a try, what a difference over the factory speakers. Well worth the cost.

Pros: Excellent value and sound.

Cons: None.

Good upgrade for 2010 silveradostock paper coned speakers for the front doors. I get the feeling they really need an amp to bring out their best though.

Cons: Pricey, not as much bass as I expected

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these speakers very quickly, with only a delay from UPS due to a noreaster of one day. The extras that came with the speakers from Crutchfield made all the difference in the world in the install. The mounting brackets that came with the speakers would have worked but not nearly as nicely as the ones from Crutchfield. The wiring harness was great. Didn't have to rely on cheap crimp butt connectors or the hassle of soldering. Just plugged right in. With taking the door panels off, installing the speakers and reinstalling the door panels only took 15-20 min per side. The only thing I had a problem was that the instructions for a 2008 Chevy Silverado didn't show me there was two more screws holding the door panel on behind the handle accent piece. Once I realized they were the it was a piece of cake!

Pros: Great fit, Great sound and Easy install. Mounting brackets fir perfect and wiring harness made the job take no time with no worries of connections becoming loose.

Cons: Makes me want to spend the money and do the rest of my speakers. The Instructions didn't show two screws behind the door handle on the door panel.

I just bought two pairs of these for my Dad's car, along with one of Kenwood's excelon receivers. I've gotta say, these seem to be quite good speakers for their class. The separation and space to the music is very nice. Highs and mids are smooth and clear. If you're looking for crazy bass from these, don't expect much if you're not using an amp. They're only running off the receiver, but these things feel like they're just dying for the spanking an amp would give 'em. Only negative I've noticed about these so far is they seem a bit syllabic, but nothing that was too offensive. If you're looking for good sound quality in this price range, these will make you smile.

I bought these speakers on a kenwood excelon system deal and was quite skeptical, and although it said they would fit, I had to modify some of the screwholes to get these in. Running off of the head unit, The highs and mids were wonderful, and sounded 10 times better, but my stock rear speakers were much more sensitive and handled the bass much better. Then, my 4 channel jl audio amplifier arrived. And the mids and highs are so clear that it makes me shiver. Not to mention I can turn them so loud. Also, the bass I was enjoying before is back, but now tighter and much more clean. Wonderful pair, and Im happy I get to review them and hope that people share in this purchase.

Features

Woofers: The woofer cones are constructed of Carbon-PP (polypropylene) with a diamond array pattern.  The woofers feature butyl rubber surrounds for a smoother response and improved durability.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 3/4" Silk soft dome tweeter for smooth, accurate highs.

Adapter Ring: The included adapter ring expands the speaker's compatibility to include the 3-hole 6-3/4" patterns used by GM and Chrysler, the standard 3-hole 6-1/2" pattern, and Ford's 4-hole 6-1/2" pattern. Using the adapter ring adds 0.274" to the mounting height and subtracts 0.274" from the depth. Given the 4.916" cutout required, the speakers will also fit in standard 6-1/2" openings without the adapter ring, but new screw holes must be drilled.

Warranty Note: Although these speakers come with a 1-year warranty card, they are covered by the Kenwood Excelon 2-year warranty.
