Kenwood Excelon speakers incorporate technical know-how and advanced materials to give your music the full, rich sound it deserves. These full-range speakers sport a diamond-array pattern etched into their woofers that increases the strength of the carbon-polypropylene cone for improved dynamic response and lower distortion. The butyl rubber surround resists weathering, providing reliable support that keeps your music playing, no matter what.

The KFC-X683C 6"x8" full-range speakers feature 1-3/16" balanced dome tweeters that deliver all the high-frequency details without sounding harsh. Because of their specially designed magnetic circuitry and neodymium magnets, these compact tweeters use less steel in their construction than most tweeters, so you hear more accurate response.

Grilles are not included; the factory grilles should be suitable for most applications.

Product Research

Features

Woofers: The woofer cones are constructed of Carbon-PP (polypropylene) with a diamond array pattern.  The woofers feature butyl rubber surrounds for a smoother response and improved durability.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1-3/16" PEI balanced-dome tweeter. PEI (Poly-Ether Imide) is a polymer film that has ideal sound characteristics, making it perfect for use as a tweeter. A PEI balanced-dome tweeter produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

Custom Fit: The 6x8" speaker's frame features two additional mounting holes which allows the speaker to fit in 5x7" openings of select Ford and Mazda vehicles.

Warranty Note: Although these speakers come with a 1-year warranty card, they are covered by the Kenwood eXcelon 2-year warranty.

Customer Q&A

Q
Is there a break in period?
jason  Sep 08, 2022
1 answer
A
There is not a recommended break in period for these speakers. Break-in periods for speakers are a matter of some debate among audio enthusiasts. That said, most speakers sound great right out of the box without need for breaking them in.

Q
Do these speakers fit in the front doors of a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria? It shows they fit in the rear deck, but not the front. Similar speakers appear to fit in both locations. I wondered if this is an oversight, or if there is a dimensional difference between these 6x8's and other 6x8's offered by Kenwood. Thank You.

A
We found them to be just slightly too tall to fit under the available clearance of the factory speaker grills in the front doors of the 2011 Crown Vic. It's very close so, you can likely make them fit with minor alterations to the inside back of the stock speaker grills but it's enough of an issue that we do not list them as a "recommended fit" for this location.

Q
will these speakers fit the rear doors on a 2003 ford f150 supercrew cab?

Q
What would be the reason that these speakers would fit in my rear doors of a 2003 Expedition, but not the front doors? Is it a dept and spacing issue?

Without looking at specs, I would assume your front doors call for a larger speaker? So the answer would be yes to your question only except that if you were to install these in the front, you'd have to modify your front speaker opening. Just an added piece of advice, get the Dynamat too. The sound will be fuller and richer from these speakers.

Q
These speakers are not listed as fitting the front door speaker location on my 2005 Ford F150 Supercab, just listed as fitting the back door location. Will they work in the front door location without modification or interference? Kenwood Excelon KFC-X683C
andrew  Oct 25, 2015
1 answer
A
The issue in the front door location is one of depth. The speakers are just slightly (.01") too deep. It may be possible to add a small spacer and get the depth you need. I'd recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or chat to discuss further.

Q
These are 3 ohms, im replacing my front speakers. Still running the factory head unit, and my rear speakers are 4 ohms. Will running these in front damage anything?
johnnyo  Mar 01, 2015

A
Should be ok. 4 ohm speakers are typically less than or greater than 4 ohms depending on frequency.
david  Mar 02, 2015
A
No, especially if you're running of the stock head unit.
kathleen  Mar 02, 2015
A
No I am doing the same thing and have been for all most two years now. They work great!
