About the Kenwood Excelon KFC-X1730P
Kenwood Excelon speakers incorporate technical know-how and advanced materials to give your music the full, rich sound it deserves. The KFC-X1730P component system features 6-3/4" woofers made from a carbon, glass fiber, and heat-resistant Nomex® hybrid material that offers extreme accuracy, especially at high volume levels. The butyl rubber surround resists weathering and provides reliable support that keeps your music playing, no matter what.
Separate 1" silk dome tweeters deliver all the high-frequency details without sounding harsh. Because of their specially designed magnetic circuitry and neodymium magnets, these compact tweeters use less steel in their construction than most tweeters, so you hear more accurate response. The outboard crossovers utilize premium film capacitors that divide the sound between your tweeters and woofers without adverse coloration.
Note: Kenwood describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Woofers
Woofers: The 6-3/4" woofers use Carbon and Glass fiber Nomex hybrid cones and use rubber surrounds for added durability and bass response. The woofer basket is designed to fit a standard 4-hole 6-3/4" application. The included adapter rings expand the woofers' compatibility to include other 6-3/4" patterns used by GM and Chrysler, the standard 3-hole 6-1/2" pattern, and Ford's 4-hole 6-1/2" pattern. The woofers can also replace standard 6-1/2" speakers without using the adapter rings, but new screw holes will needed. Please check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm compatibility with your vehicle.

Tweeters: The 1" soft dome tweeters offer smooth highs and low distortion.
Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters can be flush mounted using the supplied housings and metal retaining-clips. Once installed the tweeters can pivot in the housing, so their angle can be adjusted to obtain a better soundstage. The tweeters can also be top or bottom mounted in a factory tweeter location using the included brackets. The tweeters cannot pivot when installed in the OEM brackets. Once mounted in the appropriate housing, the tweeters have these dimensions:

Crossovers
Crossover Network: The 2-way crossovers have a 6 kHz high-pass filter for the tweeters and a 6 kHz low-pass filter for the woofers. The crossover has an automatically resetting tweeter protection circuit that reduces the tweeter volume when overloaded.
Connections: The passive crossovers' feature screw terminal inputs and outputs; they will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.315" wide. Kenwood recommends using 12 gauge speaker wire (sold separately).
Tweeter Level: A jumper pin inside the crossover allows you to adjust the output level of the tweeter; choose 0 dB, -2 dB, or -4 dB.
Mounting: Each crossover can be mounted using two of the included screws through two holes in the casing. To connect and mount the crossovers, the plastic cover must be removed and then re-installed once connections and mounting is completed.
