Play your MP3 and WMA discs in the car with Kenwood's KDC-MP208 CD receiver, and watch as your song titles scroll across its display. Turn on the Supreme Setting feature — it enhances files recorded at a low bitrate to make them sound more full-bodied, and closer to the sound quality of the original source.

Connect your MP3 player to the front-panel auxiliary input. You can adjust the input level so you won't get drastic changes in volume when you switch to or from the auxiliary source. The stereo's built-in amplifier offers plenty of power, and you can shape the sound with a 3-band equalizer and six preset tone curves.

If you're adding a subwoofer, the set of preamp outputs include a low-pass filter and level adjustment for hands-on control over your bass. Kenwood also includes a handy remote control.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

    Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

    Far from happy - kdc-mp208

Written By Dave, Dallas, TX on Friday, March 12, 2010

First off, the sound quality this unit gives out is very good....but I didn't find it to be very user friendly at all, and the owner's manual didn't help resolve things. I could not for the life of me figure out how to get the clock to be displayed during use. I did set the time, but then it's like *POOF*, it went away! Either the user's manual is written incorrectly, or maybe the unit was defective. Either way, setting the clock and it's display should be something that anyone with a 5th grade education should be able to figure out on their own. Also, the freaking knob is waaay too sensitive. Don't accidentally hit it or it puts you in sound adjustment mode, then you have to press it like a million times to get back to the tuner/CD player/or MP3 function. Lastly, the controls at the far right for selecting am/fm1,2 &3, scrolling radio station frequencies, etc. is so hard to control with consistency. Sometimes you'll press the "up" direction, and not the same command occurs. Weird. I ended up selling it for about 15% of what I originally paid for it, along with harness and remote. Buyer beware...

    Good bang for the buck!

This is a really nice stereo, it makes the car sound like I replaced everything including the speakers even though its only the head unit that I changed. Awesome versatility with mp3 cd's, aux in jack, and really nice radio reception. Aux in is key of you have satellite radio and dont feel like paying to get it professionally installed in your car. I don't think any other stereo offers a remote in this price range and the red and blue look crisp at night. I only gave four stars because I've had the stereo for months now and I still can't figure out how to set the clock time and yes I've read the manual. Everything else is pretty straightforward.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the second car stereo I have purchased from Crutchfield. And again it was a breeze to install. The instructions and illustrations make the installation pain and worry free. The stereo itself is easy to operate. The display is easy on the eyes at night and bright enough during the day. The remote makes raising the volume a little easier than reaching for the volume knob. The auxiliary jack located on the front of the unit allows for the use of a mp3or similar item. Couldn't beat the price.

    Just what I needed.

This stereo was everything I was expecting. I can either hook up my Zune to the auxillary jack on the face or load up a flash drive and insert it into the usb port, I get all the music I want or need. Sometimes I will even put a cd in and listen. Does anyone really use cd's anymore? How weird does that sound? I have never had anything but great things to say about Kenwood products

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This new super 'K' was purchased in the Crutchfield 'package' deal with the free speakers . Although I'm planning on putting the speakers in later when it warms up a little , right now this unit is pushing sound through the Factory speakers . Believe it or not , the factory speakers never sounded as clean and clear as they do with this Kenwood unit. I can't wait until I get the time to do the speaker upgrade !

Installation was about as easy as it could possibly be imagined . No hang-ups , and immediate sound ! I truly enjoy the remote more than anything else....I always figured a remote was about the most lazy and wasteful thing on Earth for a car...but that was before ! Man , I wish I had one of these a long time ago.....I don't have to take my eyes off the road to do my morning 'flip' through my favorite preprogrammed channels or reach over to adjust the volume knob . The optional input connection allows me to upgrade and play my other devices through this system and this allows me to use stuff I already have without buying something twice. The deck is pretty much user friendly , so functions and button choices are need to sign up for post-graduate school to learn how to operate...very easy.
The lighting options can be set for auto-dim , a big plus , but the colors ( bright white-ish blue and screaming bright red) could have been a bit more subdued...I don't want to light up the interior of my car at night by the stereo .

I got this as a special with speakers. It was a great deal. It works well and installation was reasonably simple. I am very satisfied with the unit. My only issue is that the volume nob is a bit small for my size large fingers. But for the price I can't complain.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit combined with the KFC-1660S speakers for my son's Ford Tempo to replace the stock radio. Essentially, we were just trying to get something to play through the speakers other than static ... but we got a lot more. MP3 and aux input provide great sources of music, the only thing that would have been better would be iPod controls --- but hey, look at the price. I would definitely buy this again.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For an entry level deck, this is good! I gave this as a Christmas gift & it is a great step up from stock without the exorbitant cost.

It has a nice eq set-up to customize the unit to your ears, an aux outlet for those of you who want to get into the MP3/iPod in-car craze without spending huge $'s. It sounds pretty darn good too.

I'm really amazed by Crutchfield's ability to match dash trim with the vehicle. It looks like this was purchased with the vehicle!!! Fit and finish are perfect!

Crutchfield does it's homework with it's product lines, I will continue to buy Crutchfield for all of my audio needs!

    Best Stereo Ever

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the best car stereo we ever had. I got it for my wife for christmas since she hadn't had a car stereo in 3 years after the factory installed one in our 99 Honda Civic was stolen. Great price, easy install, fantastic instructions.

Of course right after we got this stereo installed, the Civic died, so we bought a 2004 Kia Sedona, I'm in the process of moving this stereo to that car because we love it so much. The MP3 support and AUX port for our iPods is totally worth re-installation.

The sound is crisp and the options to change the EQ to different settings works great, even with the factory installed speakers, honestly, I think it made the speakers sound better. If this stereo can fit in your car, BUY IT!!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this unit with the free speaker promotion as a Christmas gift for a co-worker. I did the installation myself in a '96 Subaru Legacy. The factory head unit was still working, but the factory speakers were nuked. The Kenwood KDC-MP208 represents a tremendous value, and my friend is very pleased with the operation, sound, and fresh look it added to his aging Subaru. He said "driving has become fun again." I'm planning on putting one of these in an older Camry later this month. I'll let you know how that one goes. You can always rely on the fantastic support you get from Crutchfield, and the broad spectrum of products offered by them. I have been since the 70s.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this stereo for our son's car. He has been using it for about 2
months now with no complaints. We have not installed the speakers yet.
Waiting on warmer weather to tackle that project. The installation guide
from Crutchfield was a huge help. The stereo fits into the dash like it was
there from the factory. I was very impressed. The toughest part of the
stereo installation is installing the wire connectors on the harnesses. It
would be a big help to have this step more clearly defined at the time of
purchase. Other than that, Crutchfield deserves a big thumps up!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I looked at various "big box" retailers for a deck and speakers to replace the factory equipment in my Senta, only to find prices and installation were more money than I wanted to part with. I decided to check, and in 20 minutes all my questions were answered and the KDC-MP208 was on the way. Installation could not have been easier, and the unit sounds great. Controls are easy to maneuver, and aesthetically it looks fantastic. It is a basic unit with not a lot of extra features, but if great sound is what you are looking for, at an attractive price point, you cannot go wrong.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I think this is a great buy for the money but I'm not a car audio person so I'm no expert. I upgraded a 1998 Escort from the factory AM/FM radio (I didn't even have a tape deck) to this, so obviously it was a huge improvement. The faceplate looks nice and is easy to use, the sound is very clear, the aux input works great, and having a remote is kind of neat. Does the job for me.

I couldnt be happier with this deck, when i bought my car it already had a aftermarket stereo. Dual XD7500(dont get it) but this Kenwood is a HUGE improvment. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bright display, easy to read no matter what time of day
Controls are laid out well, menus fairly easy to navigate and understand
Had no problems reading my mp3s off CD, reads them quickly with no lag

Overall a real nice unit and as this price point I only have one complaint

You can not have this display the track name and the clock simultaneously. Its either one or the other and its not just a simple button click to have to hold a button down then side scroll to an option then click another button. Not very intuitive or user friendly.

I would probably have spent the extra $30 to get the next nicer deck just to alleviate this problem.

    Kenwood KDC-MP208

Written By Greg, Pueblo, CO on Thursday, December 25, 2008

I purchased this receiver a couple months ago and have decided to replace it. I am not an audiophile who upgrades every year. In fact this stereo replaced another Kenwood that was seven years old. I generally keep them until they die. I am replacing this stereo as the center volume knob/button has such poor ergonomics. The volume knob is small and presses in very easily. Each time you press in you enter a new mode on the stereo.

This is a problem as the slightest bump in the road sends you into the various modes. You might think your changing the volume but your actually changing the bass, or treble, or balance etc depending on how bumpy the road is. I find it so annoying that the stereo has got to go. Having got that off my chest, the sound and tuner work well. The various modes and buttons are fairly intuitive. I don't have particularly big fingers so if you have big fingers, wear gloves, or live on dirt or poorly maintained paved roads you might want to take a pass.

I am now looking for a stereo with a toggle for the volume as my old Kenwood did.

wow this hu really does its job...
    lots of power...
easy to adjust sub w/o having to crank on ur amp
can adjust the ratio volume on cd input, aux input...
    multiple inputs,
    and radio...
also has low pass filters for preamp... 120hz, 80hz, and 40hz
only reason i gave it is because it takes time to understand how the menus work together and i had to read the manual accouple of time to figure out how to turn off demostration mode

Very Nice Upgrade For My 97 Tahoe

Written By Keith, Louisiana on Tuesday, December 16, 2008

I wanted to pep up the sound in my 97 Tahoe. Some of the lights on the OEM system had blown and I wanted an AUX Input to play my IPOD. I ordered this unit and it came with a set of Kenwood 6" Speakers - arrived a day early, wiring harness was almost too simple to install - mounting kit made it a clean quick job - about 45 minutes and I soldered and shrink wrapped all my connections.

Sound Quality is awesome for this price - the AUX Input picked up my IPOD and sounds a lot better than the wireless FM method. Ran a CD I burned on it and it played just fine, CD sounds great! Tuner sounds good also, picks up pretty well around town - have to see when I make a trip and hit a few dead zones.

Overall I am very satisfied, I have not even hooked up the new speakers - so I should really see a little better sound quality when I install them this weekend.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just completed the installation of the receiver in our 2003 Dodge Intrepid. The Master Instructions sheet from Crutchfield were perfect and made the installation very easy. The hardest part of the whole installation was connecting the two wiring harnesses. Luckly, I have a friend that had a Multi-tool I borrowed to strip and crimp 18 - 22 guage "bullet" wire connectors onto all the wires. The reciever fits perfect in the dash and looks great. The receiver sounds good after one day of use. I'll try to update this review after using the reciever for a few months. I hope to install the speakers when it is a little warmer in the garage.

Down-Right Bargain for the Price and GREAT Crutchfield service!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was not sure I wanted to replace the factory radio in my 2005 Sonata,
because I was concerned that it would not look as nice as the factory one.
So, I added an Infinity sub and Profile amp to the factory radio, but the
system still fell far short of what I would consider to be audio-grade

This is my first purchase of a Kenwood car audio product, and I must say I
am very impressed! Not only was the cost of the deck very low, but
the installation kit included by Crutchfield made the aftermarket receiver
look better than the factory stereo.

The tuner in this Kenwood has excellent sensitivity and reasonably good
fidelity, a solid improvement over the factory radio. The CD player also
sounds much better, and has an abundance of on-board power and much
cleaner bass. I was blown away by how good this unit made the factory
speakers sound. With the added amp and sub, the system sounds great.

I would also like to comment on the excellent build quality of this receiver.
All of the buttons are very tight and function well. Simply put, this
unit has better build quality than all of the receivers I looked at at the local
car stereo store, some costing over $300! The controls are confusing at
first, but get easier once you start playing around with it.

Finally, a big thanks to Joel in the customer service department for all of his
help and patience with the installation. Crutchfield you are the best!!!!!!!

It was pretty easy to install except for the mounting bracket(seems i didn't need it) and im only a first timer. It sounds so much better and i like the convience of the remote- thats cool. But the clock set up and file selction was a little tricky to master. It hooks up with my ipod and psp so overall it sounds amazing.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall a good radio. I bought Kenwood because it was the only model that would fit in my wife's Mazda without cutting into the dash. Easy install (as always w/ Crutchfield stuff). My main complaint (more of an annoyance really) is how the functions are assigned to the buttons. For instance, the EQ curve/setting is accessed by pressing the volume knob - which isn't easy to grab onto to begin with. So, if I'm on a bumpy road or miss and accidently press instead of rotate the volume knob, all of a sudden I've just changed the EQ settings for the radio! The buttons that navigate the MP3 CDs also seem to be ultra-sensitive to the touch. I simply graze the button and I've jumped ahead 3 folders, instead of only one. Worth the price though if you're looking for a base system that plays MP3 CDs and has an AUX in on the front. Sounds much better than factory!

    Great CD Receiver

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After months of researching products and merchants, I finally settled on this Kenwood and Crutchfield and I couldn't be happier. The reviews were very helpful in my decision. Using Crutchfield's "Outfit My Car" saves time and their technical assistance was prompt and accurate. I've never attempted an audio installation in a vehicle before, but with their Mastersheet, it was a breeze. I only have the usual complaint with most after-market receivers: the buttons are too small, but I've adjusted already. Because of so many options, menus can be a little confusing, but once your preferences are set, you shouldn't need to access those very often. The receiver sounds amazing, too, even with my factory speakers.
    Thanks to Crutchfield.

    Product Research

Overview: The Kenwood KDC-MP208 AM/FM CD receiver features a detachable face, front auxiliary input, selectable rear/subwoofer 2-volt preamp output and MP3/WMA playback. The headunit also comes supplied with an easy to use IR wireless remote control. The unit's amplifier is rated at 22 watts x 4 channel RMS and 50 watts x 4 channel peak.

Detachable Face: The unit features a single front loading CD face that detaches from the chassis to deter theft.

Note: The unit does not come with a face case. An optional grey, soft, carrying case (142DFC2C, sold separately) is available.

MP3/WMA Playback: The KDC-MP208 can play MP3 and WMA files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. Each disc should have a maximum of 8 directory levels, 100 folders, and 255 files per folder. During MP3/WMA playback, the unit displays any recorded ID3 Tag information.

Supreme Setting: When MP3 or WMA files encoded at a low bit rate (less than 96 kbps, 44.1k, 48kHz) are played, the Supreme Setting function restores their high frequencies so the sound quality is closer to files encoded at a high bit rate. The processing is optimized for the compression format and the bit rate used. When the Supreme Setting is Off, the unit plays the original sound stored in the audio file.

AUX In: The unit is equipped with a front panel 3.5mm minijack auxiliary input that can be used to input audio from a portable audio source such as an MP3 player. The AUX input can be turned "off" in the menu if you do not want to cycle through this source if you choose not to use the AUX input.

Auxiliary Display: The KDC-MP208 allows you to select the source type displayed when using the auxiliary input. You can choose from AUX, DVD, Portable, Game, Video or TV.

Speaker Settings: The Speaker Setting function tailors the System Q Sound Control settings according to the type of speakers in your vehicle. You may select a Speaker Setting of "SP Off" (flat), "SP OEM" (for OEM factory speaker systems), "SP 6x9/6" (for systems with 6" and 6"x9" speakers), or "SP 5/4" (for systems with 4" and 5" speakers).

System Q Sound Control: Six EQ curves are preset into memory, allowing you to recall the best preset EQ curve for different types of music. Each preset has its own level settings for bass (100Hz), midrange (1kHz), and treble (10kHz). The 6 preset curves with their respective bass, mid, and treble levels are as follows:

    • Rock: Bass +6, Mid +1, Treble +2

When the preamp output is set to "Subwoofer" the receiver uses the type 1 fader which only allows fading between the front and rear speaker channels while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading .

Source Tone Memory: This feature allows you to store System Q bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, FM, and AM).
