Overview Details Customer Reviews Category Info Accessories Our take on the Kenwood KFC-W3013PS by Jo Greene What's a component sub and why would I want one? A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back. Kenwood puts decades of experience into building their Performance Series subs, so you can have powerful, reliable bass in your vehicle. Check out the KFC-W3013PS 12" sub you get a heavy-duty polypropylene cone reinforced by a tough rubber surround that accommodates the extra-long cone excursion. And this sub handles up to 400 watts RMS, so you can rock out out with plenty of thunder. The Diamond Array Pattern reinforces the cone so that it won't warp during heavy bass production. A dual ventilation system pulls heated air out of the motor structure through the back and the sides of the sub, so the inner works stay cooler during those long, loud jams. Put this Kenwood in a suitable enclosure, power it with a nice amp, and get ready to party. Features Enclosure Compatibility Features Cone: The KFC-W3013PS uses a polypropylene cone and rubber surround for added durability. Heat Transfer System: A dual ventilation system designed helps keep the motor structure cool, improving power handling and longevity. Long Stroke Design: The pole piece has been extended to provide a more linear magnetic field for woofer operation. This lowers distortion and provides the woofer with better low frequency response. Double Stacked Magnet: The stacked magnet assembly is used to create a powerful linear motor with increased excursion capability for superior bass output. Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals on one side of the woofer connect to your amplifier's wiring. The posts will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge. Enclosure Compatibility Sealed Box: Kenwood recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 1.25 cubic feet (from 0.75 to 1.75 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Ported Box: Kenwood recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 2.0 cubic foot (from 1.5 to 2.5 cubic feet is acceptable) using an 12-3/4" x 1-1/2" x 21-1/2" slot port. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output. I've put these subs in multiple enclosures, sealed, ported... in both, the bass was crisp and clean. They can get very loud with low distortion. And they hit hard when paired with a good amp. These are awesome, because, not only do they sound great with rap/hip hop, they even sound good with heavy metal and anything with fast double bass drums. I recommend using 2 of these bad boys in a sealed enclosure, with an amp (around 400 rms) dedicated to each one.

5 out of 5 PORT your box and you will be amazed!! Written By HappySubOwner, Chicago, IL on Monday, February 27, 2012 Using a Kenwood KAC-7205 2 channel amp bridged to 1 channel for 500w x 1 RMS 2 farad DB Link cap First started out with a 1.24 cubic feet sealed box and it hit hard.. Very clean and responded great to several frequencies. Switched to a 1.93 Cubic Feet ported box and it sounds like I have 3 x 10's or 2 x 12's with no distortion. VERY IMPORTANT!! Use an online port length calculator to determine the correct size of your port. The wrong length will make a huge difference in sound. My slotted port opening is 4.75 tall by 2.5 wide and 11 inches long/deep. I have to show my friends it's only 1 sub before they believe me.. Can't imagine what 2 of these would sound like.. Pros: mounting depth durability sound response for the price Cons: none 4 out of 4 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? 3 out of 5 Blown up! Written By Derek J, Texarkana, TX on Sunday, November 20, 2011 Overall good short term speakers for the value, but won't last for the long hall. Pros: Good sound and performance Cons: After two years both speakers blew up. The first one smoked the voice coils and the second one came appart at the base of the cone. They were great while they lasted but they don't hold up. Was only using a 175 RMS sony amp with 1000 watt max. 2 out of 14 people found this helpful Was this review helpful?
