Cool running, lasts longer
The unique fin shape of the extruded aluminum heatsink helps pull heat away from the amp's interior, reducing distortion and extending the amp's life. An intelligent thermal management system continually monitors the temperature, saving your music from any interruptions due to overheating.

Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for determining an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured into a 4-ohm load, with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) plus noise, and over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, when applicable (20-200 Hz for this subwoofer amp). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. Using CEA-2006 criteria, the Kenwood X500-1 is rated at 300 Watts RMS x 1 channel with an 83 dBA signal to noise ratio.

Specifications: The manual also lists these non CEA-2006 compliant specifications:

  • Power: 500 watts x 1-channel (into 2Ω, at 100 Hz, no more than 0.5% THD, 14.4 volts)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 100 dB (at rated power)

Mono-Power Amp Design: The Kenwood X500-1 is designed with specific features to power your subwoofers with a frequency range between 20 and 200 Hz. This amplifier is not designed to power a full-range speaker.

Class D Amplifier Design: The amplifier design is Class D, which uses digital switching power supplies. The result is much higher efficiency (less heat generated) than Class AB.

Low-Pass Filter: The X500-1 has a built-in 24 dB/octave low-pass filter, continuously variable from 50 to 200 Hz. The crossover is always engaged (it cannot be bypassed).

Bass Boost: The bass boost circuit is centered at 40 Hz; boost is variable from 0 to +18 dB.

Aluminum Heat Sink: The aluminum heat sink increases the amplifier's heat dissipation efficiency, increasing the life of the amplifier.

Controls:

  • Input Sensitivity: 200mV-5V
  • Low-Pass Frequency: 50-200 Hz; continuously variable
  • Bass Boost: 0-18 dB; continuously variable

Inputs and Outputs:

  • Signal Input: one pair of RCA inputs
  • Power: screw terminal; accommodates spade connector up to 0.54" wide
  • Ground: screw terminal; accommodates spade connector up to 0.54" wide
  • Remote Turn-on: screw terminal; accommodates spade connector up to 0.335" wide
  • Speaker Output: one pair of screw terminals; accommodates spade connector up to 0.335" wide
  • Fuses: two 30 amp ATO fuses

Q
Will 4gauge wire work on this amp any problems with overheating?
chris  Mar 24, 2015
4 answers
A
4 gauge is perfect for it. I don't have any overheating with the Amp.
kenneth  Mar 25, 2015
A
I use 8 gauge on mine with no problem!
harrison  Mar 25, 2015
A
Honestly, that's not necessary. I have two Amps on my mini cooper next to each other. About 2 inches apart. I used 10 gauge wiring on both. No excessive heat. Been running them for over a year now. The Kenwood X500-1Mono Amp is running a 10 inch sub. It kicks really good. More than enough for my Mini anyways.
david  Mar 25, 2015
A
Yeah. I'm using 8 gauge, it's a little smaller than I should be using but it's worked for the last 2 years

Turn all the knobs to the left?
dustin  Jan 12, 2015

Reset? These amps don't hold any memory or setting other than the small dials on the ends. Blessings

Q
Can this amplifier push a RF P3 D2- 12inch? If can, how should it be wired?
nathan  Jan 01, 2015

A
It doesn't have enough enough power for that sub, you never want to under power a sub, look for something with 750 watts RMS, always go a little more then what you need
timothy  Jan 02, 2015
A
Yes it can, I'm currently using it to push an Infinity 12" and it works beautifully. It's very compact as well which is nice. As for wiring, i didn't do anything different than I would normally do. Just wire it like it requires aND you should be good.

Q
I have two 12" kenwood 250rms 4ohm svc subs. I want to run them parallel, and this amp seems like the best fit. Some say to go 30% higher in amp wattage than the speakers. I'm conflicted. Suggestions plz? -Jen

Q
Can I join the x500-1 and a xr-1s to combine wattage and if so how much wattage will it be and the stable ohm load? Thanks in advance
hoard  May 14, 2014
1 answer
A
If you mean combine wattage like wire them both to the same sub. No. It doesn't work like that. If you have a DVC(dual voice coil) sub and 2 of the same amp and know what your doing. Yes you can put one amp per voice coil but two different amps, things will break and you will be sad.
evan  May 14, 2014
Q
Does this amp require a remote wire (i.e. does it need a signal to tell it to turn off)?
eric  Feb 19, 2014
4 answers
A
Yes
griffin  Feb 24, 2014
A
Yes it does require a remote wire, if it didn't have one it would draw too much power from your battery when your car wasn't running causing your battery to be drained.
robby  Feb 19, 2014
A
Yes, I think all amps require one! If your RCA cables don't have a wire built in, just run one with those or the 12 volt power wire.
matthew n  Feb 19, 2014
A
Yes. Just a simple single wire to and ignition source or the blue remote wire on an after market stereo.

Q
What's the best settings to use this amp at? The Bass Boost Level, LPF Frequency, Input Sensitivity?
michael  Dec 29, 2013
1 answer
A
There are many variables with audio systems so that is why the amp has some of these adjustments. What works in one car may not work as good in another. The lpf depends on your speaker, I generally go with a lower setting, 90 or hz or lower. Sensitivity will vary with head unit. I like to get the system set up without the sub first, then turn it on and try to bring it in line with the rest of the system. You can try sensitivity at the half way point and go from there but in my vehicle I had to turn it down low! I enjoy tuning my system so try it out with different tunes and try to have fun listening to music. Sorry for such a long response but I hope it helps and I hope you enjoy your new system. Don't be afraid to change settings and listen again!
