This sweet-looking Kenwood Excelon X700-5 5-channel amplifier can power your entire system, serving 40 watts RMS each to four full-range speakers while delivering up to 500 watts RMS to your sub. Got a nice set of components up front? You can switch the amp over to 3-channel mode, driving your components with 100 watts a side while still giving a sub a healthy 500 watts RMS of power.
Tuning where you need it
High-pass filters on the front and rear channels let you tailor the sound to fit your vehicle and speakers. You can adjust the low-pass filter and a bass boost on the subwoofer channel to get just the right bass for your vehicle, while optimizing your sub's performance.
The unique fin shape of the extruded aluminum heatsink helps pull heat away from the amp's interior, reducing distortion and extending the amp's life. An intelligent thermal management system continually monitors the temperature and turns on a cooling fan when necessary, saving your music from any interruptions due to overheating.
You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.
I was looking for a amplifier that would power all my system and this is a good one 5 channel for all your speakers and the sub as well cooling fan helps with the over heating so never shuts down. ..I recommend this amp

Excelent performance, works pretty well, no complain move my kicker CVR flawlessly. I have two complains but are relatively minors don't alter my 5 stars review.

Without the amp the new speakers are so ordinary. This amp is more than enough. With the high and low pass filters you can get the correct sound for your ears.
Pros: The 5 channels allow for the sound to be customized.
So clean and powerful. I am running an active crossover, and the front mids off one set of channels and the tweeters off of the other set of channels. I cannot believe I waited so long to run a setup like this. I am also running a 12" sealed sub off the the sub channel at 2 ohms, until I get my custom fiberglass box made for my JL's, and it pounds the 12 so hard and smooth. I will be buying another eXcelon amp for more subs in my car without a doubt.

Great amplifier for what I needed. Provides great power to my component speakers throughout the vehicle & the sub-woofer. Overall this is a great amp if you are wanting to enhance the sound quality of your vehicle.

A nice, slim, space saving amplifier. Mounted a vertical, under back window of a 2001 Ford Ranger, extra cab. Just got it mounted and wired in, so I have not really had time to play with it, and make any adjustments to the sound! Too much other garbage, dirt, dust etc...to worry about, for an under seat mount. Even without adjustments, it pumps plenty of sound through the new Pioner speakers also recently installed. No subwoofer yet, hope to have that complete in about an hours time tomorrow.

Simple setup and clean power throughout its range. I wish Kenwood still made home audio as well - I've never got rid of a Kenwood product because it failed, only because it was ten or twelve years old and out of date.

Got this amp to replace a jbl 5 channel amp that died on me. So far I like the amp. It has plenty of power to provide your entire system.

I bought a factory refurb...I'm super satisfied!!! Same great quality product without the price tag being so high. It pushes the system (2 sets of kicker components and 1 MTX thunderform 12). I was able to tuck it under my rear seat and it's outta sight and outta mind.

Great amp for the price, delivers plenty of sound. Paired with a 4 ohm JL 10" in my Durango can be tuned from the head unit I choose to have balanced highs, mid's, and low's or can be cranked up to make your neighbors talk about you when you come in from work each day..

I was upgrading the equipment in my civic and came across this amp... I couldn't afford the alpine pdx series since I wanted an amp that powered everything... For the price I couldnt pass it up... Got it the next week and had it professionally installed.... Couple days later it made a Loud horrible thumping sound when I turned my head unit on, then I smelled something burning.... Saw smoke coming from it... Crutchfield was excellent an had another one 4 days later.... Never had a problem since..... Powers everything to the max.... I can't turn the volume passed 28 and it goes to 35!

This amp is small and easy to mount. Pushing 2 pair of 6x9. In the doors and a pair of alpine e 10' inch in a down fire box. Very clean power and the gains are easy to understand. It pushes the tens to the limit and they hit hard, even in the downfire box

Multi-Channel Design: The X700-5 is basically three amps built into one chassis, two full-range 2-channel amps (A and B), typically powering the front and rear speakers, and one mono amp to power a subwoofer. Either of the full-range amps can also be bridged to one channel.
CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for determining an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured into a 4-ohm load, with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N), and over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (when applicable). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. Using CEA-2006 criteria, the Kenwood X700-5 is rated at 40 watts RMS x 4 plus 300 watts RMS x 1 with an 80 dBA signal to noise ratio.
Specifications: The manual also lists these non CEA-2006 compliant specifications:
Cooling Fan: There is a cooling fan to help dissipate heat and ensure cool, reliable operation. Make sure not to block the vents or the fan when installing the amplifier.
Input Sensitivity: The X700-5 features independent gain controls for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels. The input sensitivity of each is adjustable from 200 mV to 5.0 volts.
High-Pass Filter: The front and rear amps have individual switches to set the built-in crossovers to high-pass or off (full-range). The crossover points are independently adjustable from 50-200 Hz. The high-pass crossover slope is 12 dB/octave.
Low-Pass Filter: The subwoofer channel's low-pass crossover is always engaged (it cannot be bypassed). The crossover point is adjustable from 50-200 Hz and the slope is 24 dB/octave.
Bass Boost: The subwoofer's bass boost circuit is centered at 40 Hz; boost is variable from 0 to +18 dB.
Aluminum Heat Sink: The aluminum heat sink increases the amplifier's heat dissipation efficiency, increasing the life of the amplifier.
Power And Ground Terminals: The amplifier features screw terminal power and ground terminals. They will accommodate spade connectors up to 0.55" wide.
Remote Turn-On Terminal: The remote turn-on is a screw terminal that will accommodate a spade connector up to 0.35" wide.
Speaker Terminals: The five pair of speaker terminals are screw terminals and will accommodate spade connectors up to 0.35" wide.
Signal Inputs: The amplifier features three pair of RCA input connections, A, B, and Sub.
Fuses: Two 40-amp ATO fuses are installed in the amplifier chassis.

This is a hybrid amp. The full range channels are digital so cooling requirements are very low. The sub amp module is analog and high power. It also has a very low profile for such a powerful amp. I have this amp mounted behind the rear seat-back of my pickup. I had to mount it as close to the floor as possible but it fits just fine. I shaped a piece of plywood to bolt into existing factory holes on the back bulk-head. I then mounted the amp and four crossovers to the wood base and then bolted all that into the truck. I can easily disconnect the signal wires and then remove the whole assembly. I run it at high volumes all the time and have never had a problem. I'm using 2-way Helix speakers and JL sub. Charles, I bought this amp about 6 months ago to mount in my party bus. I had same problem of wanting it out of harms way ( especially in a party bus). I screwed mine right to the wall behind a seat above a heater and have not had one single problem. This amp has a fan in it and as far as I can tell it does not get close to hot the way I have it mounted. Also it is almost always cranked all the way up for hours. Hope this helps !!! You can easily mount to the cab wall. I put mine under Tacoma drivers seat and it is angled up and cockeyed some. Venting is a non-issue as it sucks front to back. My goal was just for security, ease of access, and keeping things looking stock. Cables connected easily even with the odd mounting. It's small and thin so easy to put just about anywhere. Front and rear are independent of the sub. The power output (in Watts) of the unit is shown as 4x40 (4ohm) and 1x300 (4ohm) for a single voice coil subwoofer or 4x50 (4ohm) and 1x500 (2ohm) for a dual voice coil subwoofer. I have a JL audio dual voice coil subwoofer so my amp runs 4 ohm to each of the front & rear speakers and 2 ohm to the sub. Sounds like that is what you are looking for. Take a look at the manual. No the amp does not have an input for any type of remote gain adjustment, like a bass boost knob or anything like that. It does have gain adjustments for all 3 pairs of channels, as well as a "bass boost" adjustment, but nothing remote. [ Trevor Oct 12, 2015 ]
