The Kenwood Excelon XR-W12F 12" subwoofer produces serious bass output in the hard-to-fit areas of your compact car or truck. This shallow-mount sub measures just under 3-1/2" deep, so you can really get creative with your installation.

Big cone, big bass
The extremely light glass-fiber cone is 25% larger than last year's model, employing a honeycomb pattern that delivers quick response in demanding conditions without flexing. More cone surface area means this sub can move more air, so this design gives you powerful, accurate bass out of an extremely compact speaker. It's like getting an 13" sub in a 12" frame.

Innovative design
The sturdy butyl rubber surround helps to control the cone, so this woofer can rock hard without losing its punch. The cast aluminum basket offers a unique design that vents air out from the back and all sides of the subwoofer for exceptional heat dissipation. Pair this sub with the right amp and enclosure, and you'll get some powerful bass without losing too much space in your vehicle.

Product Research

Features

Flat Subwoofer: The Kenwood Excelon flat subwoofer design is approximately 40% slimmer (less deep) than a standard subwoofer. This makes it ideal for installation in tight spaces, such as behind or under the seat of a pickup truck.

Carbon-Glass Fiber Cone: The carbon-glass fiber cone uses a honeycomb design which is simultaneously efficient and durable.

Rubber Surround: The woofer features a smooth linear rubber surround for added durability and increased excursion resulting in exceptional deep bass response.

Heat Transfer System: The XR-W12F features a dual ventilation system designed specifically for its slim-design.

Aluminum-Cast Basket: The woofer is housed in a die-cast aluminum basket for increased rigidity and long-lasting reliability.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals on one side of the woofer connect to your amplifier's wiring. The posts will accept pin connectors, single or dual banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Enclosure: Kenwood recommends a sealed box with an internal volume of 0.8 ft³.

Additional Measurements:

  • Frame: the speaker frame doesn't have a uniform diameter; at the widest points the diameter is 14.437", at the narrow points it's 12.775"
  • Woofer Displacement: 0.041 ft³ (1.176 liters)

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
What's a good sub to run this amp? I currently have and x500-1 I'm curious if that's enough?

A
Make sure the ohms match each other and the answer is yes to your question if those numbers represent wrms.
justin m.  Apr 13, 2016
Q
Would it hurt the sub to run it in a .68 cubic feet box?
shey  May 19, 2014
1 answer
A
No, but remember sealed box only. That is .639 after speaker is installed and box's tend to act smaller than they are. Their could be some very low freq. loss.
