Kenwood

Our take on the Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW1000F

The Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW1000F 10" "flat" subwoofer produces serious bass output in the hard-to-fit areas of your compact car or truck. And this shallow-mount sub measures less than 3-1/2" deep, so you can get creative with your installation.

The carbon-glass fiber cone employs a honeycomb pattern to deliver quick response in demanding conditions without flexing. The beefed-up rubber surround maintains control over the cone, minimizing distortion caused by resonance. A die-cast aluminum basket offers a rock-solid housing with plenty of venting to keep the heat down. The silver-plated push terminals offer convenient connections and provide excellent signal transfer.

Highlights:

  • 10" 4-ohm shallow-mount subwoofer
  • carbon-glass fiber composite cone with butyl rubber surround
  • cast aluminum basket
  • power range: 50-250 watts RMS
  • peak power: 1,000 watts
  • frequency response: 35-800 Hz
  • sensitivity: 90 dB
  • mounting depth: 3-3/8"
  • sealed box volume: 0.6 cu. ft.
  • ported box volume: 0.6 cu. ft.
  • warranty: 2 years

Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Flat Subwoofer: The Kenwood eXcelon flat subwoofer design is approximately 40% slimmer in height than a standard subwoofer. This makes them ideal for installation in the tightest of spaces such as behind or under the seat of a pickup truck.

Carbon-Glass Fiber Cone: The eXcelon flat woofer uses a carbon-glass fiber honeycomb cone which allows the woofer to be efficient and durable at the same time.

Rubber Surround: The Kenwood woofer features a smooth linear rubber surround for added durability and increased excursion resulting in exceptional deep bass response.

Super Linear Spider: The flat woofer utilizes a super linear spider for maximum control over the woofer's linear motion to improve overall sound quality.

Heat Transfer System: The Kenwood woofer features an advanced Heat Transfer System designed specifically for its slim-design to provide proper ventilation to keep the woofer cool.

Aluminum-Cast Basket: The woofer is housed in a cast-aluminum basket for increased rigidity and long-lasting reliability.

Spring Terminals: The flat woofer utilizes a pair of silver-plated spring terminals on one side of the woofer for connection to your amplifier's speaker wiring. The spring terminals will accept up to 10 AWG speaker wire.

Concealing Ring: The eXcelon woofer comes supplied with a removable, rubber concealing ring used to hide the woofer's mounting screws for a neat and professional looking installation. The concealing ring increases the top mounting height to 1".

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed BoxVolume: The sealed box size recommended by Kenwood is 0.6 cu/ft.

Vented Box Volume: The vented box size recommended by Kenwood range is 0.6 cu/ft. One 3" diameter x 11" long port should be used with a 0.6 cu/ft enclosure.

great little sub

Written By livinloud, fairfield, CA on Tuesday, February 24, 2009

talking about the other guys review....you need a different amp and box....if you don't have enough power for both speakers all its going to do its stress them and your amp out cause they want to draw more power and your box especially a ported one needs to be tuned for the proper Hz and the airspace has to be right or it just beats up the sub......I had 2 of these subs in a custom sealed box with a 500W Kenwood amp in my standard cab s10 and it was crazy I was really surprised at the sound quality those speakers produced

Good sub for its intended use

Written By BryanS, Dallas, TX on Thursday, July 22, 2010

You won't blow off the roof with this sub, but given 150 watts of clean continuous power and you will have a nice sounding sub in your ride. The 400 watts spoken of by somebody else was WAY too much power and if you're going to put these subs into small boxes under the seat, just understand that big bass does not come in small packages. Good bass, Yes. Big thunderous bass, No. These just aren't designed to do that. The laws of physics can be strained but they cannot be broken. A good sub for hard to place locations. Enjoy the music.

descent

Written By Alex, Lafayette, LA on Thursday, September 20, 2007

not exactly what i wanted to get for my money. i have a 250x1 pushing 2 of them in a ported box, under the seat of a NBS 2007 Chevy Silverado. they slam pretty hard with certain songs but just not worth the whole $180. maybe worth $100. not really built solid either. had to replace two of them within 4 months from the cone cracking to the actual frame around it cracking and coming loose where the screws are screwed into the box.

Was awesome when I was breaking it in and even after for awhile. Started pushing it and had nothing but problems. Not really over powering it but 2 weeks of getting on it and now it rattles like crazy! Thinking it probably burnt a voice coil. Really a shame, this sub sounds really crisp and can hit pretty hard. I am going to try to get it fixed and try again. Pretty disappointed. I had nothing but good things from my other Kenwood stuff. For the price I expected a good sub, heck I got 2 12" Kenwoods for that and beat the snot out of em
Pros:
Very great on break in and has a very good sound quality.
Cons:
Breaks if you even get close to its "RMS" wattage let alone the "Max"

Great at first

Written By , VA on Thursday, November 19, 2009

So i had this sub in a .6 cuft sealed box on a RF T-400-2 bridged set at about 35-40% gain. For the first three weeks it was awsome during break-in. Then when enough time had passed, i turned it up but only about 10%, well it blew. The audio shop i use said i did nothing wrong and it should not have blown. Until it blew it sounded great. Now i got a RF shallow mount sub and I am in the process of breaking it in. I was sorry to see it go but thats that. Overall a great sub but watch the power you put to it.

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
