High performance bass
Kenwood puts their most advanced technology into the Excelon subwoofers, so you can enjoy reliable high-performance bass in your ride. This KFC-XW12 12" sub comes equipped with a polypropylene cone attached to a heavy-duty rubber surround that allows for extra excursion, so it'll take whatever you throw at it. The cone is reinforced by a ribbed "Square Array" pattern that helps it to keep its shape through heavy play. The KFC-XW12 is rated to handle up to 400 watts RMS so you know it's ready to rock.

Side view of subwoofer

Keeping it cool
A dual ventilation system forces heated air out of the motor structure through the back and the sides of the sub, so the inner works stay cooler during extended play. This ventilation system also allows this sub to operate in an extremely shallow enclosure, good news if you're building a box to go in a tight spot. Install this Kenwood in a suitable box, hook up a nice amp, and you're ready to rumble.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 300 and 600 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Product Highlights:

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Heat Transfer System: The dual ventilation system design helps keep the motor structure cool, improving power handling and longevity.

Long Stroke Design: The pole piece has been extended to provide a more linear magnetic field for woofer operation. This lowers distortion and provides the woofer with better low frequency response.

Double Stacked Magnet: The stacked magnet assembly is used to create a powerful linear motor with increased excursion capability for superior bass output.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals on one side of the woofer connect to your amplifier's wiring. The posts will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Trim Ring: The included cosmetic trim ring adds to the speaker's mounting height when top mounted. The mounting height (and flange height) becomes 0.71 inches.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Kenwood recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 1.25 cubic feet (from 0.75 to 1.75 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Kenwood recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 2.0 cubic feet (from 1.5 to 2.5 cubic feet is acceptable) using an 13-3/4" x 1-1/2" x 21-1/2" slot port. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output.

Ok, i gave 5 in value. You shouldnt put a 1000rms watts amp for a 400rms speakers, You are doubling the power these speakers can take, plus, at 2 ohms, even worst, yes, at two ohms sound twice as powerful, but the coil resistant goes down twice, so yeah, thats equal to fire. I have these subs with a kenwood amp, is 300watts at 4 ohms, 500rms watts at 2 ohms, yes, these is the amp u want with these subs(pair on parallel). Is the speakers says, 400Watts max, stay in that range, dont go to high with the amp. Mine sounds great, great bass, sealed box, could not be happier. yes, i do recommend these subs, just DO NOT put a Monster amp, they are 400Watts, keep that in mind!

Pros: deep bass, great sound.

Cons: nothing

Not too happy...

The subs sounded okay with my Rockford prime 500.1, so I upgraded to a alpine mrx 100. Which is 1000.1 at 2 ohm. Well everyone said it would work without a problem without blowing the subs. I had the gain barely even on and the subs started smoking and the coils burned! Ya, they caught fire!

Pros: Sound ok...

Cons: Can't overpower at all, they will blow!

Waay Nice

I recently bought a pair of these with my girl along with a Kenwood 500w mono block amp. Im only giving the subs about half of what they can handle, and it STILL hits hard!! We thump everywhere we go, for the price these cant be beat in my opinion.

Pros: Nice sound for the price.

Cons: Not very interesting visually

Enjoy quality sound at an affordable price

Sick bass. You can throw everything at it and it will not dissapoint. Very durable and the quality is superb. Wait there's more. You can't beat the price. Well worth your investment for your first sound system setup. Two thumbs up.

Pros: Deep clear bass. Power output is superb. Durable. Good construction quality. Affordable price

Cons: None I can think of.
