A flash of lightning, and the TV goes pop. The damage sudden power surges can do to your home theater system is readily apparent. Not as obvious, though, is the way electronic noise and minor fluctuations can interfere with your system's performance — especially high-definition flat-panel displays, where you may notice video streaking, lower image resolution and color saturation. The Monster HTS 3600 MKII PowerCenter protects your equipment from the range of detrimental effects that can be caused by unfiltered power.

The PowerCenter features a sophisticated microprocessor that acts as a first line of defense against sudden power spikes. It monitors incoming AC power and immediately disconnects your equipment if the voltage reaches unsafe high or low levels. When the voltage returns to a safe range, the PowerCenter reconnects your system. An audible alarm lets you know when surge protection is active.

There are 10 protected AC outlets in four discrete banks to minimize electronic interference between components. Two of the outlets are for high-current components, such as a flat-panel TV or amplifier. Coaxial jacks protect your system from surges coming through your cable or satellite TV line. A large, easy-to-read digital LED display lets you visually monitor the AC line voltage or your system's total current draw.

Features

Design: This surge protector is a large, component-sized unit which protects connected equipment from power surges, AC power line noise, and noise generated from other components. Monster Cable uses Clean Power v.2.0 Stage 3 in this unit, which includes isolation between outlets to reject any noise generated by other components connected to this power center and separate filters specifically designed for digital and video components.

Monster Clean Power Stage 3 (v.2.0): Monster Clean Power Stage 3 circuitry consists of four ultra-advanced isolated filters including a digital filter for separate digital sources, analog audio, video, and ultra-high current audio filters provide the best possible AC powerline noise rejection and isolation of audio equipment from video equipment for improved component-generated noise rejection. Ideal for audiophile and videophile A/V systems and reference home theatres.

Monster T2 Technology: The HTS 3600 features this technology, which is an active electronic microprocessor-controlled circuit that sits in front of the surge protection circuitry. T2 monitors the line, neutral and ground lines and automatically disconnects the PowerCenter from the AC power line when a long duration low-voltage sag or high-voltage swell occurs (continuous voltage below 70Vrms or above 132Vrms). When it senses one of the sags or swells, the T2 circuit will shut down the PowerCenter for 15 seconds. If the voltage returns to normal, the PowerCenter will then turn back on; if it is not cleared up in that time, the PowerCenter will remain off. This circuit will shut down the PowerCenter before the MOV's (Metal Oxide Varistors) and thermal fuses sense an overload condition and sacrifice themselves to protect your equipment; thusly extending the life of the PowerCenter.

Display: The digital display shows the input voltage or the total current draw of the system.

Isolated Digital Filter: Four unswitched AC outlets have a special filter circuit optimized to reduce interference from digital components and keeps noise from entering the rest of your system.

Isolated Video Filter: Two unswitched AC outlets have a special filter circuit optimized to reduce interference from video components and keeps noise from entering the rest of your system.

Isolated Analog Audio Filter: Two switched AC outlets are optimized to provide maximum noise rejection for sensitive analog audio components. The switched outlets are turned on with the main power button on the front of the unit or one of the remote triggers. When the main power is turned off, there is a delay (approximately 30 seconds) before the switched outlets are turned off, this helps prevent turn off thump.

Ultra High Current Audio Filter (Switched/Timed Outlets): These outlets have a specifically designed circuit for high power audio components, like amplifiers and pre-amplifiers, designed to deliver maximum current to these power hungry electronics.

Abnormal Voltage: If the input voltage drops below 90 volts or rises above 132 volts a warning LED lights.

Timed Outlets: Two timed outlets are optimized for maximum noise rejection while providing maximum current to ultra-high current audio components such as amplifiers. The timed outlets come on approximately six seconds after the HTS3600 is turned on, this helps prevent turn on thump. They go off immediately when the unit is turned off.

Remote AC Control: This feature allows you to remotely activate the switched and timed outlets from a receiver or preamp. When any external signal is feeding the remote AC jack the main power switch on the front of the unit is disabled.

DC Input Jack: For use with a component that uses a DC remote trigger (3-30V) with a 1/8" mono mini jack. When any external signal is feeding the DC input jack the main power switch on the front of the unit is disabled.

Telephone/Network Connections: These connections feature a surge arrestor that protects against damaging voltage surges on the phone line.

Coaxial Inputs/Outputs: Ultra-low loss RF circuitry keeps insertion loss minimized for the coaxial outputs.

Color coded: Color coded outlets and the supplied cord labels help prevent accidentally disconnecting the wrong cord.

Power Cord: The eight foot long high current power cord with 24k gold contacts is designed for maximum power transfer.

Improved Picture Quality

Written By AV, NC on Friday, May 11, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great deal for the money. In my experience the unit only emits a noise if a high drain component (anything with an amp) is plugged in to anything other than the two high current outlets in the back. I plugged my sound bar into the receiver outlet and there was a slight buzz coming from the monster. I unplugged it and used one of the two high current outlets, no more buzz, at all. I had been using a panamax M8AVPro so I didn't expect much difference but the Monster unit improved the picture on my HDTV! Very impressed and it looks great on the shelf.

Pros: Does what it says and looks great doing it. No noise (in my experience) as long as anything that uses an amp is plugged into the high drain outlets.

Cons: Only two of the ten outlets are high current.

The unit hums

Written By Bob, Shawnee, KS on Monday, April 23, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My unit also hums. I've got a dimmer switch for the lights in my office and the hum intensity depends on the setting of the dimmer switch. It still hums with the lights off. I've tried it in other rooms and it still hums. I've taken it to my work office and tried it on different outlets, dirty power and clean computer power, and it still hums. Crutchfield sent me a second unit and it did the same. Actually the hum was a little louder than the first.

Since the hum comes from the unit and not the speakers, I kept the first unit thinking I'll put it in a cabinet. I haven't had a large storm, so I can't comment on the main characteristics of the unit, but the sound coming out of the speakers is clean.

Crutchfield was wonderful to work with. They sent a second unit and were willing to send a third. Thank you Crurchfield.

Pros: Looks good, Waiting for a big storm to see if it actually works as specified. Crutchfield customer service is excellent.

Cons: The unit has an internal hum.

Great bang for the buck

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did a lot of looking around at other stores and at other models, but this was the best deal for the money. This unit replaces a Monster PowerCenter HTS 2500 MKII. i had that unit for 6 years and it all of a sudden died. I would like to think it died due to a power surge, but all the other surge protectors in my house was fine. The warranty was for five years, so it doesn't surprise me it quit in year six. I have my system in a rack and needed a component style/rack mountable powercenter. My comments...

1) Outlets - This has 10 outlets while most units at this price point or cheaper only have eight. I needed all of them!
2) Noise - As a previous reviewer stated, this unit is a bit noisy and emits a slight hum/buzz. My equipment is in a closet so it doesn't bother me. Besides, you only notice it if the room is completely silent.
3) Looks - This is a sharp looking unit and I like being able to see the voltage and power usage.
4) Improved sound? - I can't say I heard any from this unit or my previous one. To be honest, I never spent any time trying to hear any.
5) Rack ears - They don't come with it, although the manual says they are included.

Monstrous Power Utilization

Written By Louis, Mtns of Colorado on Tuesday, October 06, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Other people complained about noise, mine made no noise at all. The front is all techie and masculine which I'm sure pleases the monster demographic (me included, I confess). Also, the thing honestly reports its own power usage which is cool. BUT ...

The problem for me is that it said it was using an amp for its own use (Monster tech support said .5 amp, but that is not what I saw).

I generate my own power with PV panels and this thing single handedly made my meter run forward. In fact, I bought 100Kilowatt/hours to feed the Monster last month. I don't know what it is supposed to do (my system looks and sounds as good now as it did with the Monster plugged in). I have a good surge protector.

My Monster is no longer sucking power and generating heat. Crutchfield is great, they took it back.

MONSTER, MONSTER, MONSTER

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My 2 neighbors both have this box and after my whole surround sound system was recently struck by lightning and theirs won't, I now have one. LOL. The only difference is that I got mine for half price! It is a very heavy duty box with plenty of plug-ins. I have not heard the box make any noises, but my system is in a closet out of sight.

works like promised

Works great. No problems and no noise. I just wish Monster used a different LED color than red. Why not a soft blue or green or yellow options? I do not have any red LED in any of equipment.
