Monster DS-500

Overview

Our take on the Monster DS-500

Monster's DataSpeed 500 cable lets you create custom lengths of Ethernet cable to connect to computers or other Internet-ready A/V components. You can also use this cable with compatible whole-house music and video systems and remote control extender systems to carry audio/video and control signals to different rooms.

Purchased this cable in-store for a home-wiring project. Cable's sheath is thick, protecting the internals and making the task of pulling a bit easier. This Cat6 was cheaper than the big-box Cat5e cable. So if you're installing structured wiring, why not do Cat6?

Pros: Thick sheath.

Cons: Cat6 contains an internal plastic matrix to keep twisted pairs separate. Not really a "con" but adds an additional step of trimming this out during punch-down.

This does not include connectors. I wired to screws on the back of wall plates. [ JOHN B  Jan 27, 2014 ]
No, just the bare wire. Good cable though. I picked up the pins and a crimper at local retailer. A bit tedious to put them on, but not hard [ Nate  Jan 26, 2014 ]
No. This cable doesn't ship with the ends installed. This is just the cable which will allow you to make custom length cables. You will have to purchase the plugs rj45 separate and terminate the ends yourself. I recommend EZ RJ45 connectors [ GILBERTO  Jan 26, 2014 ]
Just the bare wire. No ends. I only bought 1 foot in order to get a discount on my entire purchase. I have found that the ends are not simple to install and sometimes require a dedicated tool. Perhaps there is another way to get the ends on, as I actually needed to do that in my current situation. As for now, I bought the female ends and just used another made up cord. Works for now. Good luck [ JACOB  Jan 26, 2014 ]
