Setting up a stereo system is not something I do often. The last time was 16 years ago, when I moved. The theory of these gizmos appealed to me (ease of attaching and re-attaching). Alas, getting the wires into them was a challenge. I soldiered on and finally got everything securely wired. It was a one bandaid job. Instructions may be a good bad example of technical writing. So, I'm glad I finally conquered them, but that was stubbornness because I just didn't want to send them back.

Banana Connectors

Written by: Bob H. from Lake Monticello, VA on August 16, 2014

These make changing speaker connections very easy. Push the ends of the wires into the small holes in the connectors either on the receiver or on the speakers can be a chore, especially if one or the other is in a tight place. By using the banana plugs you merely tighten the connector and push the plug into the opening at the back of the connector. Replacing a receiver? If you have the banana connector you merely pull them out of one receiver and push them into the connector on the new one. No fuss, no muss and no cuss. The same holds true with most speakers that have the connectors that can be used both ways. I usually had trouble with the receiver since I have a small office and the receiver is on a bookshelf that is ten inches wide. With these connectors it took about three minutes to set the new receiver in place with all seven speakers up and running. I highly recommend this produce.

Pros: Easy to use as it takes a minute or so on each plug to set up.

Cons: I haven't found anything bad with these. Really enjoyable to use

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are easy to use and work well but are not inexpensive and could use some tweaks to make better. First there aren't any directions. How about a wire cutting guide for the proper length? Directions on whether to untwist the wire or not. Do we spread the wire out or not? How about a jumbo pack with 10 sets of 2 for 5 speakers. Or even 5 sets for the stereo input. Instead of this much for 2 sets of connectors.

Pros: Easy to use. Work well.

Cons: No wire length cut guide anywhere on the product or box. No directions. EXPENSIVE!

I couldn't believe they work!

Written by: swimmerman from Old Greenwich, CT on June 23, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Yes, Monster Cable is a big name in Cable and Cable ends but when you look at how the wire is 'connected' inside, one wonders how good of a contact is made. After all, all you do is strip the wires a bit, stick them through the back end, and hand tighten. But those little points inside really grip and make significant contact with the wire and tighten it against the back plate of the connector. Compared to other end-connectors, the length of the connector is shorter than many other cable ends. The benefit here is that it takes less room and doesn't stick out very much from the back of whatever you're connecting the wires to. The color coding is also very helpful.

Pros: Short length does not protrude more than necessary No soldering required, or even a screw driver Simple to attach Very good metallurgy for conduction Color coded

Cons: Price The stronger your fingers, the better the connection.

Written by: Robert from Conway, NH on April 6, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These work great as a way of making the process of attaching wires to my receiver much simpler. it is always a nightmare to get behind the unit and do anything in a rats nest of wires. The system of attaching wires to the average receiver is awkward. These make about as easy as it can be. I like the fact that the connectors accept different size wires and seem very secure with little effort. Great design. My only objection is that they are a little expensive. This type of connection should be the way all wires are attached to receivers and part of the basic design from the factory.

Pros: Ease of use. Can use different wire sizes.

Cons: Price.

Great connectors...Easy to attach your wire to....Fits very snug in the speakers and receiver outputs/inputs....A much better way than just bare wiring your wire to everything...why spend all that money on great speakers, a great receiver, and good wires, then skimp on not connecting them in a safe and more secure way. Some may think oh well they are just connectors, well yes that is what they are and their purpose is pretty clear, but as stated above why skimp on your connections....I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a great connector that secures your wires and that's easy to attach.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

for 40 years I have been struggling with attaching speaker wire the old way of crouching on the floor, with all the nastiness associated, attempting to wrap around various terminals various types of speaker wire, hoping to get a "good" connection worthy of very good to high end audio stuff. With a TV upgrade and a new HDMI capable receiver decided to see what banana plugs are all about and a so glad I did; went for these Monster Quick Locks with Crutchfield recommendation. You do have to look at the plugs; unscrew the tops and get a feel for what they consist of but if you can strip a little wire these are amazingly easy to work with. I literally prepared 3 ten foot lengths of new speaker wire cutting stripping and attaching these plugs in five minutes; plugged them right in and everything was set. There are cheaper plugs to be sure but these appear to be "no brainer" easy to work with!

Very clever design to insure good connection and ease of assembly. While it says you don't need tools, you do need something to strip the wire and it helps to have a pen knife blade or something similar to tuck the wires in place. Written by: Tom from Rochester NY on November 6, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've used these banana plugs for years, tried others early on but when I found these I never looked back! I have 3 systems in my house, living room, bedroom, basement. Every speaker wire (14 gauge) has these on both ends, aside from patio speakers which use the Quick Lock spades and a Zone 2 amp which uses Quick Lock pins (spring clips instead of 5-ways).

There is nothing more frustrating than trying to get bare wire in the back of receivers when you can't see, and have very little space to work in. These make that task a non-event. Plus, by using on the speaker end as well, you know that you get clean signals going all the way through, and you don't run the risk of bare wires touching each other.

After using these for a while, you know exactly how much insulation to strip to get the proper connection, and so it takes only a minute or so per speaker. Great for reducing the variables!

Pros: SO easy to use, assures clean signal

Cons: Cost adds up when using for many speakers, but worth it

If you want an extremely easy way to connect your speakers to you A/V receiver that has all those speaker connections crammed together that it is almost imposible to get your speaker wire in those holes. Monster has solve your problem with the quick lock speaker wire connnector, they are worth every penny you spend on them. Plus these units are made to give you a much better connnection so you will get the sound out of your system the way your ears hear is best for you. There very easy to use when connecting the speaker wire to them, just cut and stripe the wire so about 3/8s of an inch of wire is above the crown that the wire is pressed against, next item is to screw on the connector and your ready just to plug in those connectors in your A/V receiver and speaker enclosures.

I bought these connectors to replace the angled pin-type connectors on my
Monster Cable. I was buying a new receiver and CD changer, so why not
splurge, right?

Following the step-by-step directions gives excellent results. The banana clips
fit perfectly into the back of my new Yamaha receiver. Sound is still as clean as
it ever was, even though my speaker cables are over 15 years old!

The only problem I had was that these connectors would not fit the terminals
on the back of my vintage Infinity speakers, so I had to just strip the ends of the
cables and make a bare wire connection (that's okay). This is the only reason I
gave a 4 rating instead of a 5.

slightly expensive ... Crutchfield packed these tiny components like

I'm building my first component HT system and from what I've gathered banana connectors are one of the best ways to go. I purchased two sets of these so far (to terminate my Original Monster speaker cable) for my front left and right speakers and found them very easy to use and very secure and solid in the connection they create. An extra bonus is that they are reusable. They have a very high-end look and feel to them. Perhaps a bit pricey, but that's to be expected when you get into the mid to higher end of things. Would buy again.

They also provide a large amount of contact area and the gold plating assures the best conductivity. Recommend at least 16 gauge, and preferably 14 or 12 gauge speaker cable. You will not be disappointed!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had some old monster cables, that some cats from a previous life had chewed pretty badly. I cut away the old chewed up cable, sniped off and stripped the ends and presto within 15 minutes I had two new bananna plugged cables to plug into my new def tech speakers. SWEET!! I actually will be buying some more, 4 pairs was all I needed right now.

Exactly what you need for bare wires. Easy to use, can accomodate large wires (12ga), and feels secure. Goes perfectly with Monster XP bulk wire.

Monster QuickLock™ Self-Crimping Banana Connectors

Written by: Dan from Louisville, KY on September 23, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Best banana connectors available. It's products like this that set Monster apart from the competition. The attention to detail on such a simple product only solidifies Monster as the best. The rubber grip allows for easy removal and installation but also helps prevent shorts. The design provides a tight connection that won't fall out. Easy screw on design is effortless and keeps the wire firmly in place. Yes, they're expensive but it's worth it. You get what you pay for. You can buy cheaper ones but they are nowhere near as nice as these and i guarantee will not provide the tight connection that these provide. Plus it's just a one time cost. You can use these over and over again.

Absolutely amazing!

Written by: Jake from State College, PA on August 2, 2008

These are absolutely the best connectors on the market today. I have an Onkyo receiver and Infinity speakers hooked up with Original Monster Cable wire and these just top off the system. They are easy to set up and have a reliable connection with no soldering. I would recommend these to anyone who is setting up a home theater system. I spent $100 to have these on each end of the connection and it was worth every penny.

Best Speaker Plugs To Date

Written by: Chuck from Sheridan, WY on June 25, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these cause I was worried about my other speaker tips shorting.
Since my Onkyo had banana jacks/speaker tip plugs in the back, went with
these. I like the design so much that I am going to replace my speaker tips
at the speaker end with the flexable ones Monster Cable offers. Though I
have never heard of banana type plugs shorting, Monster Cable added the
feature of fatter insulated plugs just to be sure. The other great feature is
you can reuse these again and again...no soldering!!!

I own monster cable that needs new banana plugs [ charles  Jan 09, 2016 ]
Although you can find other brands with similar quality at a better price the main reason to select this one is the fact that the wider part of the cover is not metal making it impossible to short circuit positive and negative if by any chance they come in contact with each other while the receiver is on by accident. I also prefer the Closed Screw Type plug because it does not leave the bare wire exposed to the elements and the quality. [ Orlando  Jan 04, 2016 ]

1 question already asked

It probably could. I used monster cable. You unscrew the tip, push the wire in from the bottom then unravel the copper strands. The strands are spread around the base, bent over. The tip is screwed back on. They work great. I've got 7 polk speakers hooked up this way. [ BRANDON  Jan 27, 2014 ]
yes. [ MICHAEL T  Jan 27, 2014 ]
Not sure about the 14 gauge wire fit, but these are great connectors and I highly recommend them. [ STEVE  Jan 27, 2014 ]
