A bit fiddly

Written by: Mark Z from new hyde park, NY on March 24, 2016

2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I first tried the new head unit I installed I could not get very good reception from my antenna. After some investigation I realized the adapter was not making very good contact with the vehicle's connector. The connector was a bit flimsy and bent even with minimal pressure into the connector. After some fiddling I was able to make good contact and overall the adapter works well.

Pros: When installed well it works fine

Cons: A bit flimsy so extra care is needed to make connections.

Works As Designed

Written by: KoreyK from Olathe, KS on October 27, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This item works fine, as expected. I don't know why they need to make this item so long. This makes it difficult yo tuck all the wires behind the aftermarket HU --- as it is always a tight fit. If the OE antenna reached the OE stereo, it will reach an aftermarket stereo as well. Thus, this item doesn't need to be so long.

Pros: Works

Cons: Could be shorter

Don't know why the automotive industry can't standardize radio antenna connections; but this adapter seems to be necessary for many applications. Given that space to install a bigger unit is limited this is just one more component to get into an already crowded space.

Crutchfield response on May 14, 2014 After speaking with the customer, our tech support team discovered that his truck was a "transition vehicle" which used some parts from the previous model year (not uncommon when truck manufacturers update body styles). He actually needed the harness for the 2006 Durango, which we promptly sent to him. There would've been no way to know this ahead of time until actually removing the radio.

This came with my order of a Pioneer FH-X700BT for our 2008 Town And Country van. It works exactly as you'd expect and allows you to pull in AM/FM stations. I couldn't be happier with it.

Pros: Works exactly as you expect

Cons: It is idiot proof but this idiot was still able to improperly install it the first time. FM stations came in in my garage but stopped after a couple of days as the cable had not been pushed far enough into the Chrysler harness. I had to take things apart and do it right the second time.

2010 Dodge Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got one for free with my stereo purchase. I had problems getting the square plastic end to connect to the truck. I felt I really had to force it just to get a signal. Called tech support and confirmed I had the right adapter and was told if I could not get it to work they would send me a new one. When I tried to disconnect it, the cable pulled out of the plastic housing. I wanted the stereo to be complete that day so I just ran to a local electronics store and bought a new one (identical to the one they sent with the stereo). The new one connected easily and was a perfect fit without using any force. Signal is crystal clear and seem to get the same reception I had on the factory system. I'm assuming the first one I got was defective????

Pros: The 2nd one I bought was very simple plug in and go. Good reception

Cons: Defective product for the first one, but hey for the price, I can't complain too much... Seems like it is cheaply made and will be a hit or miss product.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I can't really rate this item so I gave it a 3. I have a 2013 Ram 1500 and wanted to change out the factory unit because it didn't come with a CD player. I purchased through Crutchfield a Pioneer DEH-X8500BH deck (WHICH IS AWESOM!) and this was the antenna adapter they sent with it. It did not work however. I looked on Metra's website and they say to use their 40-EU55 European antenna adapter. I found a store in town that had it and it worked fine, I was able to tune in both FM and AM band stations with it. I have no ill will toward Crutchfield, Chrysler is more to blame I think since they try to make it so hard to use aftermarket products on their vehicles which makes it hard for companies like Crutchfield to research what products work and what ones don't. Crutchfield did return my money for the purchase as well.

Complete JUNK! DO NOT BUY!

2012 Dodge Avenger
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is antenna is complete JUNK! It technically fits, and converts the antenna from my 2012 Dodge Avenger to my Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS head unit - but gets no-to-hardly-any reception - at best, you can pick up static on 99% of the stations, and maybe one location station, and at worst (normally this is what you get) you get nothing but static. If I pull out the head unit, and play w/the cable, I can sometimes get some reception, but it's just terrible. There are no lose connections - it's as tight as it could be on both ends, so that's not the issue - I can get perfect reception by just connecting plain speaker wires from the old antenna to the receptacle on receiver - so I know it all works - this adapter just FAILS THAT BAD! Look at all the other reviewers with the same problem and DO NOT BUY!

Pros: NONE! It's wasted more of my time that it was worth to buy or ship back - will not be getting any more "recommended" adapters from crutchfield again after this purchase.

Cons: EVERYTHING! You'll get better results not using any adapter than trying to use this garbage!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Needed this to put a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X696 in my BMW E46. The length of it made it a little difficult to slide the radio in. It kept getting in the way, and I had to take out my AC controls to maneuver the radio in. Also, I had to tape the connection that plugged into the radio because it kept sliding out. The cable is stiff and doesn't bend very well. I would've been happier with an adapter plug. I didn't look into other options & left it up to Crutchfield.

Pros: Fit my radio.

Cons: Lengthy, stiff cable. Had to tape the connection.
