Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This worked great. The remote amp turn on and antenna wire needed to be spliced together into the same wire on the harness (and this was not made clear in the documentation) but when things are put together right, all is well.

Pros: Works great.

Cons: The remote amp turn on and antenna wire needed to be spliced together into the same wire on the harness (and this was not made clear in the documentation provided with the wiring harness and/or the head unit). This itself is not a con, but the lack of clarification is the con.

Competed the install!

Written By DougW, Woodbury, NJ on Wednesday, May 07, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perfect for finishing the install of a new receiver in our 2009 Honda Fit. One question arose about the blue wire: instructions said to connect it to a blue, or blue/white, wire in the harness. Our harness had both, and a quick call to Crutchfield's support answered the question right away (blue/white in this case... ).

Written By Cawgijoe, Centreville, VA on Monday, December 30, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product works great, but I wasn't sure initially what to do with the blue wire. Install was on a 2013 Honda Fit Sport and the blue wire needs to be connected in order to power the antenna. Made the mistake of not connecting it which means that AM stations will not come in and FM are noisy and hit or miss. Just a suggestion that Crutchfield should point that out in the instructions.

Pros: Works. Make sure to find out if your install requires the blue wire.

Cons: Crutchfield needs to highlight that the blue wire may be needed. I did not see that in the instructions.

Not a whole lot to say, other than it worked well for me. Fits the 2012 Honda Insight. As others have said and I found out, connect the blue wire to the remote wire in your wiring harness. The Honda Insight doesn't have a power antenna per se, but my understanding is the blue wire powers a mini-amp at the base of the antenna that improves the reception of certain stations/frequencies.

Cons: -None

Written By Discoverer, RI on Friday, July 27, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Mine came sans directions. A quick tech-support call uncovered the purpose of the blue wire; it's to power an antenna amp, which Honda uses to supplement the signal from the glass-embedded antenna. Once the antenna blue wire is soldered to the (Kenwood) radio blue/white switched-power wire, signal strength was restored to what might be expected.

Pros: works

Cons: no directions, especially for the blue wire, which powers an antenna amp

Blue Wire

Written By Jon, Takoma Park, MD on Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great. Excellent reception. I used this with a Pioneer AVIC-X930BT and the Honda/Acura Receiver Harness/adapter, Crutchfield Item# 120701721. The blue wire on the antenna adapter connects to the blue wire on the Honda Receiver AND the blue wire from the Pioneer receiver harness. Without that third blue wire from the Pioneer harness, the reception was terrible.

Hooked up easily but the radio signal is weaker than it was with my stock radio in my Honda Ridgeline especially on AM. Not a big deal for me as I rarely listen to AM radio but worth noting none the less.

Pros: Easy to install. Called Crutchfield about the blue wire.

Cons: Weaker AM radio signal than the stock radio connection. This could be either the antenna connector or the radio.

Written By sandnomad, KY on Wednesday, April 04, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Finally managed to find it in the box. The instructions were poor. I had to call Crutchfield to find out what to do with the blue wire and was told a lot of people call about it, because you must connect it to the blue-white wire of the harness, or you don't get any radio reception. A simple instruction update would solve the matter, because as I was told by tech support, a lot of people disgregard the wire, then have to tear out the install and connect it, after they call tech support and complain of poor radio reception.

Pros: Worked fine when hooked up correctly.

Cons: Instructions need to be updated and clarified.

Written By Bill, Parma, OH on Monday, March 26, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

OK Crutchfield, I've found your build sheet instuctions helpful in the past but you guys dropped the ball on this one. I used this adapter to install a HU on an 08 Civic and got no AM reception and poor FM reception. Turns out the blue wire is not a power antenna lead but an antenna amplifier lead. Honda's antenna amp is not passive so it lets almost no signal through if it is not powered. With ZERO instuctions on what to do with this blue wire I left it unhooked and was so unhappy with my radio reception I was ready to return it. From looking at the reviews here, this is a common problem. With the blue wire hooked to the power antenna lead from the HU my radio sounds great and I am happy with it.

Pros: It does what it is supposed to do when its hooked up right.

Cons: Zero instructions on the blue wire that MUST be used with cars with an antenna amplifier. Nothing in the build sheet told me I had an antenna amplifier.

I decided to do my homework before attempting to install my new Kenwood (KDC-352U), since I saw a lot of gripes from other reviewed about the lack of instructions and not knowing what to do with the blue wire.

According to crutchfield tech support, this is conneccted to the Kendwood's harness wire with the dark blue/white stripe (P. CONT)

I plan on installing my stereo this weekend, but thought I'd share this information with others to save the hassle of calling for support.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It works. There was an extra wire hanging off of it that wasn't really explained in the directions, but I figured it was probably for a power antenna. I do have to say the FM reception on the clarion unit I used this with is much worse than the factory unit it replaced, but I can't say whether it's the fact it's using this adapter or if it's the unit itself.

Pros: Does what it's supposed to do.

This is pretty standard fare. Does what it's supposed to do. TIP: when you are using this adapter, you do not need the antenna wire in the Honda adapter harness. I guess you can wire all 3 together but that one in the Honda20 harness won't go anywhere.

Good adapter, poor instructions.

Written By Hector, Wheaton, IL on Sunday, August 30, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As many other reviewers have stated, watch out for the blue cable; it attaches to the "Power Ant" of the aftermarket head unit. The blue cable sends a booster signal for the antenna, so without it you'd get extremely poor reception--especially from the HD radio stations. Other than that, the adapter is a no brainner to install.
The only reason I'm giving this product 4 stars (as opposed to 5) is because of the no instructions that the product came with--even the own manufacturer's website neglects to divulge that kind of (crucial) information! Had not been for previous reviewers on this website, I would have installed the antenna improperly (i.e., the blue cable).

As far as I can tell, this item is not needed in the Element. No instructions come with it.

Another blue wire review

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice quality antenna. Leave it to Honda to try and come up with a "better idea" for an antenna connection.

Instructions could be clearer when it comes to hooking the harness to the factory harness. The blue wire clearly states power antenna lead. No power antenna, no need to connect....right? But on SUVs with a bulit in antenna amplifier in the rear of the vehicle (like a Honda Pilot or Subaru Outback), this blue wire is what turns on the antenna amplifier. Do you know if your vehicle has a rear antenna amplifier...I did not because it is not listed on the Master Sheet for my Pilot. When I had it intially hooked up, radio reception was horrible. I was ready to send it back. Called Customer Service and the first question they asked was about the blue wire being connected. I had to take the dashboard apart again to hook up the blue wires....kind of a pain. If you know this in advance....it would be nice to have it clearly labeled.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not having installed a stereo in some years I was surprised that this came along with a head unit. It would have been a real pain to realize that I would need this after starting the installation process.

Crutchfield is awesome in anticipating what the customer needs and bundling it all for a painless experience.

Works well

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

No instructions come with this piece, so just know that you'll be connecting the blue power antenna cable to the wireharness of the head unit power antenna connection - otherwise your reception will probably suffer.
easy to connect and works well.

Blue wire on antenna lead

Written By dubinski, Mukwonago, WI on Monday, November 17, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had poor reception on the radio. The antenna lead did not tell you it had to be hooked the the blue radio lead. I had to call back to Crutchfield and
speak to a "specialist". He than looked it up and said that it was to be hooked up to the blue lead on the radio. I had to again remove the unit to hook it up. I hate doing things twice. There should be something on the package telling you that it needs to be hooked up.

After looking at the reviews of this antenna connector there are more reviews just like mine, this should tell you something.

Other than this one problem there was no other issues installing the unit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The blue wire connects to the "power antenna" lead from the headunit or a switched 12v source to provide power to the amplified antenna. You'll get poor reception is you just "taped it off"

Well, it plugs right in to the car, but what about the blue wire? No word anywhere! We just taped it off.
