Metra 70-1721 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Loved the product, was able to wire up the entire head unit install on the bench. It's been years since I've installed a radio in the car, this makes the whole process a breexe.

Pros: Good instructions, colorcodes matched well, and included diagram was spot on.

Cons: The only complaint I have is with Crutchfield's downloadable installation instructions, Crutchfield asked for my make year and model of automobile and also knew my head unit required a backup conx., and a parking brake conx. I spent a couple hours trying to find these, finally gave up and called tech support, and they have the answer straight away, should have been on the instruction sheet.

Works

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was a little daunted by doing it myself, mostly cause the wires from the Clarion unit weren't all uniform, so i wasn't sure if I was doing it right, but it really is just straight color to color wiring with some crimp clamps with trimming of the Clarion wires. Working well so far. I'm happy.

Pros: Simple color to color.

Cons: It's a middle-man.

Written By Gerry, Irving tx on Monday, June 08, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The wiring harness worked but fell short of expectation because not all 20 pins had wires. It would have been nice if there were 20 wires available and left to the installer to tape unused pins.

Pros: Good fit with the car's wiring harness.

Cons: Remote Steering wheel pin is missing so ended up returning the swi-rc adapter.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I can't imagine why someone wouldn't use one of these harnesses. Even if you don't plan on ever going back to your factory stereo, this makes changing your system much, much easier, as you can unplug the harness and wire in the new connections without being up to your waist in your dashboard.

Pros: Plenty of lead, wires are pre-stripped, color coding (and package description) match industry standards.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This harness adapter made it so easy to connect my aftermarket radio in my son's car. With today's cars wiring systems being so confusing, it was a relief that I didn't have to cut into the car's wiring harness. Simply follow the clear diagram supplied and it was done fast. Not only did I receive diagrams and instructions with the item, but Crutchfield supplied them with the email notifying me of the items' shipment. I got to look over the diagram even before I got the item and was able to compare it with the aftermarket radio diagram. A daunting task made simple.

Pros: Clear, concise instructions and diagrams.

Cons: None.

Put your harness diagram on one side of your work area and your stereo manual on the other. If you can color by numbers, you can wire your own stereo. I installed my own car stereos as a kid, and now I was able to help my son put his first one in. What a blast!

Pros: Quick, easy, professional

Cons: Nope.

Written By Shane, Louisiana on Sunday, February 15, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A few colored wires did not match my aftermarket radio, and no instructions of what to do with them.

Pros: plugged into factory jack without any issues.

Cons: seems that either these jacks or the aftermarket radio cables should be designed to clip together, instead of this PITA design of soldering or twisting wires together - this is 2015, isn't it? This is still 1970's technology.

Written By Jon P, New York on Sunday, February 01, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The pins in the Metra harness needed to be bent up or down to fit the OEM wiring plug. The OEM radio connected and disconnected from the car harness multiple times with ease, so I knew the car harness was fine. The Metra harness is "almost" cut to spec... Was surprised I needed to play with individual pins to get the connector to fit on the car connector. I called Crutchfield, sent photos of the alignment differences in both connectors, and was only told "This is the same connector we have shipped for 7+ years...it has to work." It ultimately did, but be prepared with a pair of needle nose to have to tweak some pin alignments.

Pros: Works

Cons: Not as well designed as I had hoped, and needed manual pin alignment help.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

During installation of my new receiver using this harness I had to adjust the pins because they weren't fitting into the slots in the wiring harness for my '99 Honda Odyssey. It was the right harness, but a row of the pins were too high. After some adjustment I got the pins to go in the slots and everything is working now. I don'
