Metra 70-1721 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required and sold separately.

Pros: Works (only w/ effort)

Cons: Took some re-working to make it fit.

Pins a little off

Written By DP, Los Alamos, NM on Thursday, January 15, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

During installation of my new receiver using this harness I had to adjust the pins because they weren't fitting into the slots in the wiring harness for my '99 Honda Odyssey. It was the right harness, but a row of the pins were too high. After some adjustment I got the pins to go in the slots and everything is working now. I don't think I had to adjust the pins because my vehicle slots had become warped, but who knows.

Pros: -Works

Cons: -Had to adjust pins.

A necessary cpmponenet

Written By JR, Illinois on Tuesday, December 30, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It took a little doing to get this plug to plug into the wiring harness on the 2003 Honda CRV. I just kept working at it and it finally connected.

Pros: The only way to hook up an after market receiver.

Cons: Took a little finesse to get it to plug in.

Could be better

Written By jps, California on Monday, December 29, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It worked great for standard audio connections. It needs 1 more connections so the steering controls can be connected without damaging the Honda wiring harness.

Pros: All connections present for audio connections.

Cons: If pins 3 and 11 were included in the harness I would not have to cut into the factory harness to wire in steering wheel controls.

Plug-n-Play

Written By Anonymous, Kentucky on Sunday, December 28, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is as close to Plug-n-Play as you can get! All wire colors matched the factory system. If you can use a wire stripper/crimper tool, you can install this product. The plug matched perfectly with the OEM harness and took the "guess-work" out of installing an after-market radio. I've done many car radio installs, but never used a pre-fab wire harness before. From now on, if one is available for the vehicle/radio, I will use it!

Pros: Easy color matching of all wires. OEM matching of plug.

Cons: Didn't install itself.

Perfect Fit, Color Match

Written By Anonymous, Austin, TX on Tuesday, December 09, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fits well with Honda harness and Pioneer 6700BT receiver.

Pros: Colors match for 2001 Honda Odyssey. Plugs in properly to factory wiring harness.

Cons: Wire assembly sags and blocks coin drawer in 2001 Honda Odyssey. Wire assembly must be suspended behind radio with cable tie to top dash support.

Very nice.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A very good thing. Made well, a good time saver, and keeps you from making a mistake. Comes with a wiring diagram that is, well, correct.

Pros: Clean, easy to follow directions.

Cons: None really.

Easy to Use

Written By Anonymous, Navaree, FL on Monday, November 10, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The item was easy to use and easy to figure out. I only had one question about one of the wires when attaching it to the radio harness, but a quick phone call to tech support and I was all set. I used electrical tape instead of wire-nuts and I have had no issues what so ever.

Made my install fairly easy

Written By Bill, Evans, GA on Sunday, September 28, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This made my install easier. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is it did not have the steering wheel control wires in it and there were no crimp splice connectors included. The ports for the SWC are empty, otherwise it was easy to follow the given color code on the package and it was no trouble to complete what could have been a very messy install.

Pros: Easy to follow color code. Made most wiring easy.

Cons: No SWC wires, no splice connectors.

EXCELLENT

Written By DoCro2.0, California on Saturday, August 02, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This wiring harness was provided free of charge from Crutchfield. It came with instructions and I chose to solder all connections and then put heat shrink over the joints. One thing to note: There were NO wiring connectors provided with the harness. I am not sure if there was supposed to be connectors or if they were just missing in my package. I did not need than anyway but the harness itself was not only free it worked perfectly.

Pros: Free and good instructions.

Cons: No wiring nuts provided.

It's A Wiring Harness...

Written By Justin H, Woodland Hills on Monday, July 28, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I mean, it's a wiring harness.. It does it's job, and does it well. The only pet peeve that I have for every harness, is that the wires don't all come at the set length The ground wire is ALWAYS longer, the antenna wire is usually longer as well. I understand, sometimes it needs to be grounded far back- but I always recut them to the same length, restrip and then do the same on the other end for a perfect and even mate.

Pros: -Basic wiring harness -Hooks up correctly, no fuss no muss. -Wire guage is perfect for the job

Cons: -Wiring length, can be easily resolved with a pair of scissors

This item is excellent for installing a new stereo. It's practically a need. It makes installation so much easier. You can do all the wiring inside your house and just plug it into your car when you're done! And if you ever want to remove the stereo (such as putting the factory stereo in to sell our car) then it can easily be unplugged! It has all the cables you need even for subwoofer and illumination.

Pros: Easy Quicker stereo installation No sound distortion

Good quality install cable

Written By SW, Seattle WA on Monday, June 16, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Plug was part of a tuner/CD player install for a 2005 CRV and it fit perfect on the first try. Cable came with good instructions and was n trouble wiring up. One opinion, instructions call out using crimp lugs, I used solder connections with heat shrink tube. Personal preference, but either way fit is perfect and quality equals or exceeds factory cable.

Pros: Ease of use, good instructions, perfect mate to factory interface without any additional work.

Cons: None at this time
