Metra 70-1761 receiver wiring harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness adapter makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system. It works with select 1987-up Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Subaru, and Geo vehicles.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and it also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • power antenna turn-on
  • dimmer
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

Great wires

Written By Josh, San Diego, CA on Monday, December 22, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was by far the best wiring harness I have every used. The wires were so wirey, and the plastic insulation, so vibrant and colorful. I felt like I had a rainbow in my hands the entire time I was working with it. Speaking of rainbows, instead of a pot of gold at the end, there are these amazing plastic clips, clips like you have never seen before. Their beautiful semi-transparentness slid around the male clips and I saw fireworks. It reminded me of the love making scene from the movie The Notebook. I think I shed a tear. 10/10 would recommend.

Pros: All of it

Simple. Recommend wrapping the connectors in foam or securing to avoid it vibrating and making noise in dash.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Makes connecting the aftermarket receiver very simple for a 2009 Toyota Camry LE. Best of all, even includes the appropriate wire to power the rear window antenna amplifier. (I've heard some other harnesses from other place omit this necessary circuit leading to poor AM/FM reception.)

Works Like A Champ!

Written By Frank_M, Nash County, NC on Saturday, November 15, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works great and made well. Connectors have a good locking mechanism with a positive click. Diagram is easy to follow with the exception of the blue "power antenna" wire. Be sure to connect it even if you don't have a "power antenna" as many cars now have an "antenna amplifier" that needs this connection in order to enhance FM reception as well as provide for AM reception. My AM band was dead without it. I learned the hard way and had to go back in after a clean and neat installation in order for my AM to work. And it works like a champ now! WSM (AM 650) out of Nashville, TN can be heard from sunset to sunrise now at approximately 497 miles away!

Pros: Made well and provides a good connection.

Cons: The instructions for the blue "power antenna" connection needs a little more elaboration.

Easy installation, instructions not as clear

Written By Ray, California on Monday, November 03, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was easy enough, once I called Technical Support. The instructions say when connecting that 'the wire colors may not match when splicing', that caused me some anxiety. But after calling Technical Support they said, "yea, it says that, but just splice together the 'like' colors'....I did that...and it works. Easy cheesy.

Pros: easy installation....after calling Tech Support

Cons: Installation instructions not as clear as I would hope. But I understand why they say when splicing 'colors MAY not match'...even though, they do match.

This harness makes it easier to install a new aftermarket stereo. The colored wire helps, though you should always check to see if they match up with your aftermarket stereo wire color scheme. The Metra 70-1761 works in my 2008 Toyota Sienna, and I'm a happy customer.

Pros: Easy to use, it works!

Cons: None

Metra 70-1761 Receiver Wiring Harness Review

Written By Leonard, Westchester (L.A.), CA on Saturday, October 18, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This wiring harness made installing my receiver much easier than it would have been without the harness. The instructions Crutchfield provided made the connections pretty straightforward. I try to be extra careful, so I consulted the receivers wiring diagram. It turns out that I did not have to. I had one question about the harness' blue "Power Antenna" wire (I don't have an antenna that goes up and down with a switch, so I wasn't sure if I had to connect it to the receivers antenna wire ) so I called Crutchfield's tech support. I got to a live person who explained very quickly that I should connect the wire because my car has an antenna that is power boosted. Overall, I am very pleased with the harness, Crutchfield's tech support, and even with the written instructions that came with the harness, though maybe a short blurb on the written instructions that explains that "Power Antenna" means "power boosted antenna". So does it also mean "antenna that goes up and down with a power switch"?

Pros: The harness makes connecting wires from the car to the receiver very easy.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You take this pair of connectors and plug it into the connectors which previously plugged into your stock radio-(the car's wiring harness). The new Crutchfield radio comes with its own plug and wires that go into it. Then you take the wires from each plug - the new radio's and the car harness - and connect them together, matching the wire colors...red with red, blue with blue etc. I think they should have a video on this one...I couldn't find it. It's simple, but would be nice if it was explained ahead of time.

It made adding aftermarket radio easy.

Pros: It matched up to the Toyota harness just like it was meant to.

Cons: The wire coloring was a bit confusing, there was extra wires/ more than needed for this instal, had to 2x check the car's wiring diagram to be sure.

Metra 70-1761 Receiver Wiring Harness

Written By receiver wiring Harness, Amissville, Va. on Thursday, October 02, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

sorry guys, i'm disappointed the harness is differentthan the one i needed, I've looked around, i can't find the right one, for a 2000 Tundra access cab, i don't know what to do?

Pros: received in prompt time

Cons: product doesn't match the one in the truck

Crutchfield response on Tuesday, October 07, 2014 If the harness doesn't match up to the connectors from the factory radio, that means there's a factory amplifier in the truck, located right below the radio. This harness needs to be connected to the factory plugs that are on the output side of this amp. This lets you bypass the factory amp and use your new stereo's amp instead. If you have any questions or need more details, call our Tech Support team. Lifetime tech support is free with every Crutchfield purchase.

Toyota Wiring Harness

Written By WB, Powell, TN on Thursday, October 02, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The two harnesses, one connected to the car the other to the radio, fit well. But Crutchfield leaves it up to the customer to find the right connectors and to connect the two for an inexperienced person this could be a show stopper.

Pros: Connectors fit well

Cons: Add $$ in the budget to buy connectors and the tool to crimp them and an hour to do so.
