Overview

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

Metra 70-1771 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness saves installation time since you won't have to cut factory wires individually, and this also enables you to re-install the factory radio if needed. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Connections:

  • 12V constant power
  • 12V switched power
  • chassis ground
  • signal ground — connects to same receiver wire as the chassis ground
  • illumination
  • dimmer
  • left front speaker +/-
  • right front speaker +/-
  • left rear speaker +/-
  • right rear speaker +/-

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

This harness made the installation a " NO Brainer " very easy to install.

Awesome harness !!

Written by: T-MAXX GUY from San Diego, CA on May 1, 2016

2010 Ford Ranger

Harness is awesome, makes for an easy install. Packaging and the individual wires clearly tells you what each wire is for. I soldered and heat shrinked all connections I used. I only used the power connections since I am using amps. Non used wires were capped with heat shrink tubing to avoid any possible shorts. I finised the headunit harness and this harness with black gaphing tape, only a little and not too tight to make things neat.

Pros: Clearly labeled what each wire is for.

Cons: No cons.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy to install. The fact that Crutchfield includes this and the dash kit, and the factory unit removal tool, plus great instructions for one low price make the choice to buy from them very easy. Other places may have the same unit at a lower price , but then you have to buy all the other stuff that Crutchfield includes.

Pros: No cost for item, easy to install.

Cons: none

Very Easy

2004 Ford Explorer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very easy to identify which wires went to which connections on my radio. Pre-cut plastic sleeving was great, all I had to do was slide off that portion when I was ready to hook up. My only issue, and this is just nit-picky because I have never dealt with wiring, and this is the first time I have ever installed / replaced a car radio; I could not find anywhere on the wires or package what size the wire was. So when I went to buy connectors I was unsure what I was supposed to get. Of course it didn't help that the local hardware store (not a BBS) employee had no idea how to tell so I had to go to the next town over to find help in that regard.

Pros: Color coded wiring, pre-cut sleeving

Cons: Would be nice if wire size was on the package or on wire.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was great to have and a BIG THANK YOU!!! to the guys at Crutchfield for helping me trouble shoot the problem with the connector. The instructions were a little less then friendly but the support I was able to get made connecting the correct wires simple. The instructions said to ground out the black wire to the frame but in fact I was supposed to connect it to the other Black wire from the stereo and the Orange wire is supposed to mate with the Orange/with White stripe on Pioneer units.

Pros: Fits like it should.

Cons: Instructions were a little off.

What could be better unless it wired itself! Simply wire color to color and plug in. It doesn't get any easier than that. One thing that would be nice would be to have the connector caps included for the wires but that isn't a hard thing to fix. I also soldered the connections for a better contact.

Pros: Simple to install and use.

I've used these Metra harnesses since they first went on the market int he 90's. I don't know why anyone would ever not use one. It simplifies the wiring portion of the installation so that anyone can do it, if you can match colors. This one was a perfect fit and match for my '03 F250. Had the new unit installed in less than 20 minutes. Takes longer to get the soldering iron out and hot, than it does to wire the connections.

Pros: Ease of Use No splicing into factory harness Easy removal when selling auto

The harness worked as advertised. You just had to sort out the Escape Stereo color code to match the harness and the new stereo unit. It's wise to test the harness before you hard wire the connections.

Pros: Works at advertised

Cons: Escape harness color codes did not match 1771 color code, example -the yellow for power was actually orange/light green. Just took a little more time but no big deal.

The harness works great and certainly simplifies the install. If you have a 2004 F250, be warned the illumination wire in your truck goes to a variable voltage source, the dash board dimmer switch, and will not work properly with your radio. You will need to find a better source to connect to your radios illumination wire.

Pros: Simplifies Installation.

Cons: None. My problem was with the vehicle wiring, not the adaptor.
