Metra 70-1822 Receiver Wiring Harness

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield-supplied harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you're not using a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors to secure the connections. Check out our handy article on three ways to connect the wiring harness here.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great stereo, good quality, low boot up time, I only wish it would display the song info over Bluetooth, it only says my phone's name

Pros: Good functionality, sd I'd a nice alternative to a CD player

Cons: Lcd panel is bright and the cops stare me down as I drive by.

Just one issue

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The connectors allow the car to remain stock. The single issue was pin location. One of the pins did not match the car. It was easily fixed by using a paper clip wire to release the pin from the connector body and relocating it to the correct location

Pros: No cutting or splicing of original car harness

1988 Porsche 924S
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently had to replace the stereo head in my Porsche. It amazed me that Crutchfields would have a harness that had exactly the same connectors that were in the car! The entire process took about 45 minutes, mostly soldering the new adapter to the harness that came with the head, and the system worked perfectly. I am so pleased, the cost was minimal, and the instructions were excellent. I would never have thought they would have a harness for a 26 year old Porsche, but they did, and it's great!

Pros: Order help Perfect fit and adaptability Easy to follow instructions

Cons: None

Perfect match to existing 1987 Porsche 944 harness. I was amazed. No place to make a mistake, and no cutting of the old wiring. Snap it in, turn it on, hear music.

Pros: Obviously engineered to do what it is supposed to, and does it well.

Cons: None

1988 Porsche 944 Turbo
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the perfect bridge between the old style and the new style Balupunkt units. Don't try to replace your radio without this.

Pros: Keeps all parts intact, so no cutting of wires is required.

Cons: Very few

Merkur wiring harness adapter installation

Written by: Tiberius from Cleveland, Ohio on October 3, 2011

1987 Merkur XR4TI
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Swapping out the factory installed headunit and amp was made simple with this kit. The only modification I needed to make was to file flat the areas where the speaker connectors back up to one another to allow a good fit.

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.
